5 Years of Toyota's Plant in Wałbrzych Toyota Motor Manufacturing Poland sp. z o.o. (TMMP) today celebrated the 5th anniversary of the start of transmission manufacturing in Poland. Today, TMMP employs 2,000 people, with Toyota's manufacturing operation in Wałbrzych representing a total investment of &euro400 million. This makes TMMP the largest Toyota production centre outside Japan, in terms of number of produced units. In 2006 (the fifth year of production) TMMP approached its maximum production capacity, manufacturing 561,190 transmissions and 307,548 1.0 gasoline engines. In 2009, production capacity will increase to over 1 million units a year. Since April 10th 2002, when the first transmissions were assembled and sent to France, TMMP has been producing manual transmissions for the Toyota Auris, Corolla, Corolla Verso, Yaris and Avensis models, manufactured in the U.K., France and Turkey. Since January 2005, it has also been producing manual transmissions for the three vehicles from Toyota's joint venture with PSA in the Czech Republic (Toyota Peugeot Citroën Automobile, or TPCA), including the Toyota AYGO. TMMP also produces the 1.0-litre engines used in the Yaris and in the vehicles produced by the TPCA joint venture. Since the very start, TMMP has been growing fast. Compared with its original plans, Toyota increased its investment in Wałbrzych fourfold, while employment rose over sixfold. Moreover, in August 2006 Toyota announced that it will invest additional &euro145 million to increase TMMP's manual transmission production capacity from 600,000 to 720,000 units. This investment will go towards establishing the new line, upgrading the current transmission line and making other improvements. The plant's transmission manufacturing capacity combined with an engine manufacturing capacity of 330,000 units per year will give it a total production capacity of 1,050,000 units a year by mid-2009.

To cope with the increase, TMMP plans to create a new 20,000 square-metre transmission facility with six production lines on the plant site, upgrade existing lines and hire 260 new employees. With total investment in Poland of over &euro600 million and approximately 3,000 employees, Toyota's Polish operation includes two factories — TMMP and Toyota Motor Industries Poland, or TMIP — which together have an annual production capacity of 510,000 engines and a future production capacity of 720,000 transmissions. TMIP currently produces nine different engines: 2.2-litre D-4D diesel engines, which feature the innovative Toyota D-CAT technology, and a brand-new 2.0-litre D-4D diesel engine. The latter can be equipped with a Diesel Particulate Filter or with an oxidation catalytic converter. The engines form part of Toyota's Clean Power technology, giving a whole new meaning to diesel driving and environmental performance. Press Information 11 April 2007
