Toyota to acquire land for new plant in Brazil

TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announces its decision to acquire land in the city of Sorocaba, in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo, as the site for a new plant for Toyota do Brasil Ltda. (TDB), TMC's Brazil-based sales and manufacturing company.

Concrete plans are being studied with a mind to opening a new compact vehicle plant in 2011 or after on the 3.7-million-square-meter plot. The plant would have a starting annual production capacity of approximately 150,000 vehicles and create jobs for approximately 2,500 people.

TDB—established in 1958 as TMC's first overseas production base and celebrating its 50th anniversary this year—represents part of TMC's commitment to building an optimal worldwide production system based on TMC's policy of making vehicles where they are sold.
