The 40 year story of Toyota in Germany — a picture journey through the decades

The first Toyota Corolla was sold to a German customer 40 years ago in February, 1971. Toyota in Germany started modestly with just three models: Corolla, Corona and Celica. This year, Toyota Deutschland GmbH (TDG) looks back on the 40 successful years as one of the major import brands on the German automotive market.

Every week throughout 2011, TDG will highlight each of its 40 year history in pictures on their website. The images will also be accompanied by a brief insight to chronicle the history of the company.

The German automotive market, home to several renowned automotive manufacturers, has become a key market for Toyota in Europe, gaining momentum through the years. Since 1971, cumulative sales for Toyota in Germany stand at 2.9 million vehicles.

All images and texts can be downloaded in different sizes and formats giving motoring enthusiasts a chance to piece together their own history of Toyota in Germany.
