Launched last summer, new AYGO has become an extremely popular A-segment contender, with over 70,000 units already sold throughout Europe.

From its iconic frontal 'X' design to its extensive range of customisation options, all styling and engineering decisions for new AYGO have been specifically made with fun in mind. The line-up consists of 3 grades and 3 special editions, which are being updated on an annual basis.

Now Toyota is introducing a new AYGO x-cite, the most extrovert variant of the range adding even more flair to the model line-up.

The new x-cite edition features a new Cyan Splash exterior combined with piano black inserts for the frontal "X" graphic and rear bumper insert, while the front fender garnish and side mirrors are finished in Bold Black. The 15" five-spoke alloys are finished in Glossy Black and come with Cyan Splash coloured centre caps.

The new x-cite will also be available as a bi-tone1 variant which adds a blacked out roof and A-pillars for an even more distinctive and dynamic appearance.

Inside, the design theme is continued with a Cyan Splash finish for the air vent inserts, and Bold Black inserts for the instrument panel, centre console and gear lever surround. The gearshift knob and the inside door handles are finished in chrome.

AYGO can now also be equipped with 'Toyota Safety Sense', a newly developed set of active safety technologies designed to help prevent or mitigate collisions across a wide range of traffic situations.

Between speeds of approximately 10 to 80 km/h, a Pre-Collision System (PCS)2 detects other vehicles in front and reduces the risk of hitting them from behind. When there is a possibility of a collision it prompts the driver to brake with an audible and visual alert. PCS also primes the brake system to deliver extra stopping force when the driver presses the brake pedal. If the driver fails to react in time, the system automatically applies the brakes, reducing speed by approximately 30 km/h3 or even bringing the car to a complete stop, in order to prevent the collision or mitigate the force of impact.

The Lane Departure Alert (LDA) system monitors lane markings and helps prevent accidents and head-on collisions caused by leaving lanes. If the vehicle starts to deviate from the lane without the indicators having been engaged, LDA warns the driver with an audible and visual alert.

Because it is only when such advanced safety systems are in widespread use that they can have a real impact on the reduction of traffic accidents and fatalities, the Toyota Safety Sense pack will be offered at a highly competitive price to promote its adoption.

AYGO is equipped with a 3-cylinder, 1.0 litre VVT-i petrol engine which is now Euro 6 compliant. The power unit delivers class-leading fuel economy of just 3.8 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of only 88 g/km, and can be combined with a manual transmission or 'x-shift' automated manual transmission.

New AYGO x-cite will be available across Europe from June 2015.
