— The first and only full hybrid powertrain in the C-segment

— The first step in the deployment of Hybrid Synergy Drive® across the full Toyota model range by the 2020s

— Smooth, sophisticated driving experience with low Noise Vibration Harshness (NVH) levels

— Maximum hybrid system power of 136 DIN hp - performance to match any conventional 2.0 litre diesel or petrol hatchback

— Class-leading fuel economy and CO2 emissions of 3.8 l/100 km and 89 g/km

— Four driving modes, including EV, ECO and POWER 'on demand' modes

— Aerodynamic, hybrid-specific exterior design and unique interior features

— Low cost of ownership - lowest CO2 taxation and fuel costs in the C-segment, and very low maintenance costsThe Auris HSD introduces Hybrid Synergy Drive® technology to a mainstream model of the Toyota line-up. The new 5-door hatchback is equipped with the first and only full hybrid powertrain in the highly competitive C-segment.

Reflecting Toyota's environmental lead in the drive towards sustainable mobility, Hybrid Synergy Drive® will serve as a core technology applicable to all future models. The launch of the Auris HSD is the first step in the deployment of Toyota's full hybrid drive technology across the company's entire European model range.

Globally, Toyota will launch around 10 new hybrid models by the early 2010s and, by the 2020s, the company aims to offer all models with a Hybrid Synergy Drive® powertrain derivative. The system has been specifically designed to be 'future proof' and is readily adaptable to use in both full-electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.

The Auris HSD launch completes a revised Auris 2010 model range which offers marked improvements in style and interior quality. The 2010 range also benefits from a more refined driving experience and a wider choice of Toyota Optimal Drive-efficient powertrains.

The introduction of HSD makes the Auris 2010 range unique within the C-segment. Auris is the first model to offer a choice of petrol, diesel or full hybrid powertains, comprehensively catering for every customer requirement.

Exclusively designed for the European market and built at Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK, the Auris HSD drives like no other car in its class. Its introduction will create an important shift in customer perceptions of full hybrid technology.

Over and above the benefits of exceptional fuel economy and low CO2 emissions inherent in Hybrid Synergy Drive®, the everyday usability, driving comfort and remarkable quietness of Toyota's full hybrid powertrain will offer the Auris HSD customer a smooth and sophisticated, relaxed and stress-free driving experience entirely unique in the C-segment.

Capable of operating both independently and in combination, the Hybrid Synergy Drive® system's 1.8 litre VVT-i petrol engine and electric motor generate a maximum power output of 136 DIN hp, equipping the Auris HSD with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 11.4 seconds and a maximum speed of 180 km/h — performance to match any conventional 2.0 litre diesel or petrol hatchback.

Conversely, the Auris full hybrid returns class-leading fuel consumption figures of only 3.8 l/100 km in the European homologation combined cycle and remarkably low, highly tax-efficient CO2 emissions of just 89 g/km — a figure unmatched by any other C-segment car. In addition, the Auris HSD generates significantly lower NOX emissions than diesel engined cars of comparable performance.

Moreover, when operating in a unique, switchable EV mode, the Auris HSD offers zero CO2, NOX and PM emissions, driving for up to about two kilometres at speeds of up to about 50 km/h, dependant on battery charge and driving conditions.

The Auris HSD's exterior design incorporates several unique styling details to improve the car's aerodynamic performance and the fuel efficiency of its Hybrid Synergy Drive® powertrain. The interior incorporates hybrid-specific instruments, switchgear and upholstery.

The new Auris HSD represents outstanding value for money. Its best-in-class CO2 emissions and combined cycle fuel economy offer customers significant, pan-European tax incentives, inner city congestion charge exemption and exceptionally low running costs.
