Comment from Akio Toyoda, Team Chairman, Concerning the Outcome of the Rally Portugal, Rd. 7 of FIA World Rally Championship
“After the Chile victory, more great news reaches us from Portugal. I would like to thank all our fans for the support.
Since our return to the championship, we have struggled in Portugal every year. On our third visit this weekend, we showed strong pace, filling the top three positions with three Yaris WRC during the first half of the rally. And in the end, Ott and Martin climbed on the top step of the podium. I believe this is the result of the full efforts of all our team members for continuous improvement, driven by the past regrets. I thank Ott, Martin and all the team members!
Jari-Matti and Miikka were forced to stop due to suspension trouble on Saturday. But they had showed good speed until then. Kris and Seb have sped up rally-by-rally with Yaris WRC. And they attacked with the podium in their sights until the very end of the rally.In the second half of the season, we will fight to make great results with all three cars.
We, Tommi and the team will continue to develop cars with which our drivers can attack while feeling comfortable. So I want the drivers and the co-drivers to continue to push aggressively with the Yaris WRC, as they do. I also want all the fans to support the team.
Let's achieve the best results together in the next round in Sardinia in Italy!”
