Comment from president Akio Toyoda concerning the outcome of the WEC 4 Hours of Silverstone

Our six drivers and the team made the perfect start with 1-2 finish at the first race of the new season of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).

To be honest, this was not a given. In fact, during Friday`s free practice, TS050 Hybrid #7 got heavily damaged and needed some significant repair including replacing the monocoque. I remembered that a similar situation happened during the last Le Mans 24 Hours race in June. Given time constraints, our team was under high pressure and made a mistake at that time, and this error forced the TS050 Hybrid #7 crew to lose their victory at the very end of the 24-hour race. I am sure that this was still present in minds of our mechanics during the Silverstone race.

However, this time they managed to repair the car calmly and precisely, so that the drivers could fight hard with confidence during the race. I would like to thank our mechanics and engineers who kept on improving, in our spirit of “kaizen”, even after Le Mans.

And also, I am glad to see all TGR members keep learning and improving at each race.

Thank you, Mike, Kamui and Jose for this first victory of the season. Mike, I do believe you must be even happier with this victory on your home ground. Congratulations!

I also would like to thank all the fans for their support. The next round will be held in Japan our home country. Please cheer our team on site!
