Expanded all-wheel drive powertrain line-up for 2014 toyota rav4
Launched in 2013, the fourth generation of Toyota's classic compact SUV responded to evolving C-SUV customer requirements with more sophisticated styling, premium quality interior design, further enhancements to its all-wheel drive capabilities and a more engaging drive.
Now, the 2014 RAV4 model range further strengthens its position at the heart of the C-SUV market with an expanded all-wheel drive powertrain line-up, new exterior and interior colour and trim designs, enhanced equipment levels and new technology.
New 2.0 D-4D powertrain with All-Wheel Drive
A new all-wheel drive version of the RAV4 combines the Euro 5 compliant 2.0 litre D-4D turbodiesel with the Integrated Dynamic Drive System, Toyota's advanced all-wheel drive technology.
The Integrated Dynamic Drive System is a sophisticated, high-speed interactive management system which coordinates control of the RAV4's Dynamic Torque Control AWD, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Electric Power Steering (EPS) systems to enhance performance, handling and safety under all driving conditions.
Using information from various sensors (speed, steering angle, and yaw rate), the Dynamic Torque Control AWD system continuously controls the torque transfer between the front and rear wheels via an electromagnetically controlled coupling positioned in front of the rear differential.
Front to rear torque distribution can vary from 100:0 to 50:50, with front-wheel drive (100:0) automatically engaged under normal driving conditions to improve fuel consumption.
For off-road driving, the system incorporates an AWD Lock button. This allows drivers to lock torque distribution in a fixed, 50:50 ratio to speeds up to 40 km/h. Above this speed, the system automatically revers to Normal mode.
Mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, the 1,998 cc engine develops 124 hp / 91 kW at 6,000 rpm, and 310 Nm of torque between 1,600 and 2,400 rpm. The powertrain generates CO2 emissions of just 136 g/km.
New Exterior and Interior Colour and Trim Designs
The 2014 RAV4 will be available in a new, prestigious Dark Brown Metallic body colour. A striking new, angular, 10-spoke 18" alloy wheel design combines machine faced and painted finishes, whilst a range of 18" wheel designs is now available for front-wheel drive models.
The interior may now be finished in a choice of 4 colour schemes: Black, Grey, Terracotta and new Beige. The Black fabric and Grey leather interior designs have been retained.
The revised Terracotta design showcases a black background highlighted by a contrasting Terracotta finish to the main dashboard panel, central door panels, and the side bolsters of both the seat bases and backrests, for a more sophisticated appearance.
A brand new Beige colour scheme features two-tone, premium quality leather seats and a leather finish to the main dashboard panel and central door panels.
Upgraded Equipment and new Technology
The 2014 RAV4 is further enhanced by equipment upgrades, the availability of new technology and an expanded options list.
A multimedia upgrade incorporates Toyota Touch 2, an updated system featuring a new, 6" full colour WVGA touch screen with improved resolution, a new Drag and Flick function, and six additional languages.
Smart Entry and Start is now available as an option on Active grade models, in conjunction with a power-operated tailgate. An 8 channel, 9 speaker, 440 Watt JBL Premium sound system is now available as an option on Lounge grade models. And a new Geneva 'Premium' Pack -available with or without leather upholstery- adds a rear under-run and a chrome finish on the side sills and the tailgate.
Both safety and driver convenience are further enhanced by the availability of a new Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) system.
The RCTA system employs the Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) radar to alert the driver backing out of a parking space to approaching vehicles which may not be visible in either the rear view monitor or door mirrors. When approaching vehicles are detected, the system flashes the indicator lights on the door mirrors and also sounds a warning buzzer.
