<p><span>Toyota also uses the Frankfurt Motor Show to showcase the latest updates in some of its most popular models in Europe.</span></p>

<p><span>Two new models will be introduced into the Yaris line-up, enhancing the car&rsquo;s image and with specification designed to broaden its customer attraction. The new Yaris 1.0-litre will showcase Yaris intelligent technology for smart urban driving, with its economical and easy-to-drive style.</span></p>

<p><span>The new Yaris mid-range grade offers more refined sportiness with a choice of petrol or diesel engines and hi-tech equipment levels, including an integrated, full map navigation system.</span></p>

<p><span>The iconic Toyota RAV4 continues to set the benchmark for the highly competitive SUV market in Europe with outstanding driving performance, great versatility and even more sophistication and refinement.</span></p>

<p><span>Now, with the new RAV4 Cross Sport, customers can enjoy new levels of stylish design and premium quality with a sport, customers range of enhancements for the 2008 model year. These further emphasise the sophisticated and urban design themes of RAV4 across the range.</span></p>

<p><span>The first basic policy of Toyota&rsquo;s Earth Charter, developed as long ago as 1992, states: &ldquo;in order to contribute towards a prosperous 21st century society, aim for growth that is in harmony with the environment and challenge achievement of zero emissions throughout all areas of business activities&rdquo;.</span></p>

<p><span>Indeed, when Toyota unveiled the first Prius, in 1997, it already had decades of background research when it started investigating the feasibility of using gas turbines to power an electric drive system for cars back in 1965. The system was actually displayed in a Toyota Sports 800 gas turbine hybrid at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1977 that promoted the philosophy: performance with respect for the environment.</span></p>

<p><span>It is still the same philosophy being followed today with Toyota&rsquo;s award winning Hybrid Synergy Drive&reg;.</span></p>

<p><span>From launch, Prius was an immediate commercial and critical success; the most technically advanced production car in the world and placing Toyota as a world leader in low emissions and hybrid technology. In the space of three years Prius gathered no less than 20 prestigious awards including the 1997 Japanese Car of the Year.</span></p>

<p><span>Launched in Europe in 2001, Prius moved into the second generation with Hybrid Synergy Drive&reg; in 2003 and was further revised at the start of 2006 to offer a fresh face and improved interior comfort and quality. At the same time, sharper driving dynamics were introduced with a series of chassis, suspension and steering enhancements.</span></p>

<p><span>Since launch, more than 750,000 Prius models (May YTD) have been sold worldwide and more than 66,000 are on the roads in Europe. Rising fuel prices and increasing environmental awareness plus, to a certain extent, preferential tax and city driving incentives are facilitating the change.</span></p>

<p><span>But customers who switch to Prius are not just doing it for lifestyle reasons; they are also extremely satisfied with their choice and the driving pleasure it offers. Toyota Prius has just topped the 2007 JD Power Customer Satisfaction survey in the UK and France, and the current generation Prius was named European Car of the Year 2005.</span></p>

<p><span>Prius has won the ADAC Eco-Test in Germany in 2004 and 2005, and in 2007, the 1.5-litre petrol engine of the Prius Hybrid Synergy Drive&reg; was named &ldquo;International Engine of the Year&rdquo; and &ldquo;Best New Engine&rdquo; in the International Engine of the Year awards. For the last four consecutive years, it has also won the &ldquo;Best Fuel Economy&rdquo; award.</span></p>

<p><span>Research shows that around 20% of customers switching to Prius have previously owned a luxury car. They are attracted by the environmental benefits of Prius but do not want to sacrifice performance or driving pleasure. Instead, they embrace the new technology and have high expectations of comfort and safety which Prius must satisfy.</span></p>

<p><span>Over the past 10 years, Toyota Prius has been continuously improved and refined. This process has ensured Prius offers not just reduced harmful emissions but also excellent driving dynamics and driving pleasure.</span></p>

<p><span>Today, the current Prius matches the performance of many conventional family cars with a top speed of and 0- acceleration in 10.9 seconds. Meanwhile Hybrid Synergy Drive&reg; technology achieves exhaust emissions that are among the cleanest in the world.</span></p>

<p><span>The first generation Prius, with the Toyota Hybrid System (THS), showed a level of improvement for carbon dioxide emissions of around 20% compared to conventional powertrains. For the second generation Prius, with Hybrid Synergy Drive&reg;, these emissions have again further fallen by 15%, from 120 g/km down to 104 g/km.</span></p>

<p><span>The latest generation Prius produces about 55% less CO2 and nearly half the nitrous oxides and hydrocarbons of other cars of comparable size equipped with modern standard exhaust treatment systems. Compared with an average D-segment cars on the market, driving a Prius can save up to one tonne of CO2 emissions per year (calculation based on the combined EC cycle, with annual driving distance). The official fuel consumption on the EC combined cycle is 4.3 l/100km. And, when it does eventually reach the end of its useful life, owners can be confident that Prius is 90% recyclable.</span></p>

<p><span>World-leading aerodynamics play a significant role in helping improve fuel consumption, reduce wind noise and allow increased performance. The reduced frontal area of Prius means it cuts through the air more efficiently and the car&rsquo;s smooth underbody reduces overall drag and resistance.</span></p>

<p><span>The Prius features a class leading aerodynamic drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.26 resulting in excellent high speed stability and quietness.</span></p>

<p><span>The Prius can furthermore run on electric motor only at a low speed and up to two kilometres distance, offering a completely silent driving experience.</span></p>

<p><span>Suspension and chassis refinements as recent as 2006 have been designed to improve driving pleasure still further while also enhancing ride comfort and high speed stability. The developments have focused on specific areas of chassis stiffness to improve dynamic stability, suspension tuning for better ride comfort and steering control for increased response and feel.</span></p>

For maximum versatility, the rear seats fold flat, have a 60-40 split and provide ample space and comfort for adult passengers.</span></p>

<p><span>For the ultimate comfort, a high quality leather trim package is available with genuine leather seats and a leather trimmed steering wheel. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brake force distribution (EBD) and brake assist are standard equipment, along with VSC+, a stability control system that co-ordinates with steering torque assist.</span></p>

<p><span>Eight airbags are standard equipment, with improved knee protection for the driver. <p>Yaris TS is the first car in the Toyota range to be equipped with an all-new 1.8-litre Dual VVT-ipetrol engine that delivers enjoyable driving performance, refinement and excellent fuel consumption. The new engine, with dual variable valve timing, developed 133 DIN hp (98 kW) at 6000 rpm which will put Yaris TS at the heart of the sports compact hatchback segment.</p>

<p>Powering through a slick five-speed manual gearbox, Yaris TS will offer 0- acceleration in 9.3 seconds and a top speed of .</p>

<p>The new Yaris TS will be available in both three and five-door body styles, giving it a wide appeal and allowing customers to enjoy sports hatchback performance without compromising on style, practicality or comfort.</p>

<p>Exterior styling, with deep front and rear bumpers, side skirts and discreet rear roof spoiler, ensures Yaris TS will stand out from the crowd. Personalised TS badging adds to the appeal, along with a chrome sports exhaust and new, LED-based rear lights.</p>

<p>The interior styling is equally sophisticated with exclusive trim to the sports seats and doors, chrome-plated highlighting of the air vents, leather trimmed steering wheel and unique amber lighting of the main controls. The main meter panel features hi-tech Optitron units with an analogue display of road and engine speed.</p>

<p>The flagship positioning of Yaris TS is indicated by the high levels of standard equipment which include air conditioning, single slot CD player and radio with six speakers and fully adjustable steering column.</p>

<p>The new Yaris TS will be available in both three and five-door body styles, giving it a wide appeal and allowing customers to enjoy sports hatchback performance without compromising on style, practicality or comfort.</p>

<p>At the front, the unique black sports mesh grille with clear TS badge is a highlight and adds emphasis to the deep bumper design with integrated front fog lights. Darkened headlamp surrounds complete the effect.</p>

<p>Full 17-inch alloy wheels are standard, filling the wheel arches while also offering exceptional handling and ride. The deep side skirts and roof spoiler complete the aerodynamic, TS exterior styling which achieves a drag coefficient of 0.32.</p>

<p>The new Yaris TS will be available in a range of lively colours, including Vivid Blue, Terracotta, Black and Solid Red. There will also be one exclusive TS colour, Storm Grey.</p>

<p>The interior styling is equally sophisticated with exclusive trim to the sports seats and doors, alloy highlighting of air vents, leather trimmed steering wheel and unique amber lighting of the main controls.</p>

<p>In keeping with the sports theme, the Yaris TS features a centrally mounted analogue display of speed and engine revs.</p>

<p>High levels of standard equipment include manual air conditioning, CD player and radio with six speakers and tilt/telescopic adjustable steering column.</p>

<p>Typical options which will allow customers to further enhance their driving pleasure include automatic climate control, Toyota&rsquo;s Smart Keyless Entry and Push Start, plus heated driver and passenger seats and heated mirrors.</p>

<p>The 1.8-litre Dual VVT-i engine which powers the new Yaris TS offers dual variable valve timing to control both the intake and exhaust valves.</p>

<p>Dual VVT-i is a significant evolution of the highly-effective VVT-i (variable valve timing &ndash; intelligent) technology already available on the current range of Toyota petrol engines. By varying the timing on both the inlet and exhaust valves, the new technology is able to offer much greater engine flexibility with more power output, more torque and lower fuel consumption.</p>

<p>The 1.8-litre Dual-VVT-i engine in the Yaris TS develops 132 DIN hp (97kW) at 6,000rpm with significantly higher torque of 173 Nm at 4,400 rpm. This means that, despite its sports driving characteristics (it will rev to 6,400 rpm), the Yaris TS is responsive to drive with excellent mid-range and open road performance.</p>

<p>The top speed of the Yaris TS will be 194 km/h and it will accelerate to 100 km/h in 9.3 seconds.</p>

<p>The new 1.8 Dual VVT-i engine utilises an aluminium cylinder block and plastic intake manifold to reduce weight for improved performance and fuel consumption. Roller rocker arms, low-tension piston rings and light weight pistons further improve fuel efficiency, allowing the Yaris TS to simultaneously achieve high power excellent throttle response and good fuel economy. This new engine will be mated with a 5 speed manual transmission.</p>

<p>The combined fuel cycle figure for Yaris TS is 7.5 litres/100km with a CO2 output of 178 gm/km.</p>

<p>The new Yaris TS has taken the already strong Yaris platform and adapted it, under the skin, to cope with the increased power and performance. Sophisticated suspension and steering modifications ensure maximum driving pleasure and enhanced active safety without comprising refinement.</p>

<p>Body and suspension rigidity has been further improved with reinforcements to the front suspension members and a linking rod between the rear members.</p>

<p>The suspension has been lowered by 8mm for a more sporting stance and retuned springs and shock absorbers give balanced ride and handling while enhancing high speed stability. Front springs have been retuned for more precise rebound and a thicker front anti-roll bar helps with high speed cornering and reduced body roll.</p>

<p>The Yaris TS also offers retuned, high precision electric power steering with a ratio of 13.2:1. This offers just 2.3 turns, lock to lock and makes the Yaris TS extremely nimble with a turning radius of 5.6 metres.</p>

<p>Yaris has been the safest supermini available at the time of its launch. In order to live up to its predecessor&rsquo;s image, the new Yaris also counts with a strong Euro NCAP performance. The new Yaris TS has achieved a class-leading 5 star result at the Euro NCAP Adult Occupant Rating among B-segment cars &ndash; 35 points. This is the highest score ever attained by a Toyota model at the Euro NCAP tests.</p>

<p>The vehicle is featured with nine airbags which contribute to this high level of passive safety. Four airbags (dual front and side) are standard with curtain shield airbags, and a segment-first driver&rsquo;s knee airbag is also available.</p>

<p>Yaris is the first Toyota to be developed according to more stringent car-to-car compatibility internal standards. Toyota&rsquo;s previous car-to-car compatibility standards stipulated a crash speed of 50 km/h. However, Toyota decided to adopt more stringent criteria by increasing this speed to 55 km/h on all car-to-car crash tests, which represents a 20% increase in impact energy.</p>

<p>Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRC) and Anti Lock Brakes (ABS) will be available as standard active safety features for the Yaris TS.</p>

<p>A powerful new range of diesel engines and styling enhancements are set to boost the popularity of the latest generation Toyota Hilux. The changes will help Hilux to become one of the top selling pick-ups across Europe with strong customer appeal in both the leisure and utility vehicle markets.</p>

<p>The new engines include a high performance, high torque 3.0-litre D-4D diesel which will help the Hilux compete in the growing leisure pick-up segment of the market. This 171 DIN hp unit, similar to the Toyota Land Cruiser&rsquo;s engine, will give the Hilux market-leading power to weight ratio and outstanding performance driving characteristics.</p>

<p>At the same time the current 2.5-litre D-4D diesel engine has been upgraded to develop 120 DIN hp, a seventeen per cent increase on the current unit, and a remarkable torque of 325Nm. This new 2.5-litre D-4D will replace the current high and low torque option to offer customers a single, highly responsive power unit, suitable for both leisure and utility markets.</p>

<p>Both new engines comply with Euro IV emissions regulations and the new line-up offers Hilux customers an excellent balance of driving pleasure, low fuel consumption and low emissions. The more powerful engines also allow Hilux customers a wider choice to suit their work, leisure and adventure lifestyle.</p>

<p>The appeal of the Toyota Hilux is further enhanced by exterior styling changes which give the vehicle a more distinctive look and, for the 3.0-litre D-4D model, a high-tech Optitron meter panel and multi-info display.</p>

<h2><strong>Worldwide sales success</strong></h2>

<p>The current Toyota Hilux, launched in Europe in late 2005, is the sixth generation of Toyota&rsquo;s second best selling model worldwide. Indeed, more than 12 million units have been built since the Hilux was first introduced in Japan in 1967.</p>

<p>The Hilux is one of three vehicles being developed on a global basis under Toyota&rsquo;s IMV (Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle) project. IMV products are truly global vehicles designed to sell in more than 140 countries and to meet modern customer demand for high levels of quality, durability and comfort. New Hilux cumulative production reached 633,617 units by the end of July 2006.</p>

<p>The Hilux pick-up range, which represents 66% of IMV volume (FY 2005), complements the Toyota SUV/off-road line-up, offering different body styles and a more rugged alternative to the world renowned Land Cruiser and RAV4.</p>

<p>This latest generation, designed specifically to meet the growing customer demand for leisure and work vehicles, has already proved to be a sales success. On a worldwide basis, demand is exceeding supply and consequently, in 2006, due to this supply restriction, Toyota will limit its sales in Europe to 23,000 units.</p>

<p>The new Toyota Hilux is already the best selling leisure pick-up in three European countries (Denmark, Finland and Norway) and increased production capacity at the Toyota plant in South Africa (TSAM) means European sales targets will rise to 34,000 units in 2007.</p>

<h2><strong>New 3.0-litre D-4D</strong></h2>

<p>The selected introduction of a high performance 3.0-litre D-4D diesel engine will place the Toyota Hilux at the heart of the leisure pick-up market &ndash; with class-leading power to weight ratio and outstanding dynamic performance.</p>

<p>The 3.0-litre D-4D develops 171 DIN hp and offers 343Nm of torque across a range from 1,400rpm to 3,400rpm &ndash; making it the ideal power unit for customers looking for performance and extra driving pleasure, both on and off-road.</p>

<p>There will be a choice of transmissions &ndash; five speed manual or four speed automatic &ndash; and the 3.0-litre D-4D will be available exclusively with the Double Cab, 4x4 body style in SR grade and above. The new engine will give the Hilux a top speed of 170 km/h (manual transmission) while still offering excellent fuel consumption of 8.3 l/100km (combined cycle, manual transmission) and 9.4 l/100km (combined cycle, automatic transmission).</p>

<p>Equipped with the 4 speed A/T, the Hilux top speed is 175 km/h. The 3.0-litre D-4D is the latest derivative of the renowned diesel engine which also appears in the flagship Toyota Land Cruiser range. It features second-generation common-rail technology, smooth control of the turbocharger variable vanes and a swirl control system for maximum efficiency.</p>

<p>The common rail system develops a high pressure, allowing the use of injector nozzles with smaller diameter holes of 0,015 mm diameter, to create a more homogenous air-fuel mix, improving the efficiency of the combustion process. This translates into more performance with lower emissions and lower fuel consumption.</p>

<p>The engine also benefits from a Swirl Control System. Each cylinder is supplied with air/exhaust gas mixture through two different ducts. Butterfly valves operated by the Swirl Control System can shut off one of these ducts according to the engine speed and load, increasing the mixture&rsquo;s swirl rate inside the combustion chamber.</p>

<p>At low engine speeds this device improves the air-fuel mixture, thus increasing torque availability at low speeds along with lower emissions.</p>

<p>The new Hilux Double Cab 3.0-litre D-4D will go on sale across Europe in December 2006.</p>

<h2><strong>More powerful 2.5-litre D-4D</strong></h2>

<p>The 2.5-litre D-4D engine remains at the core of the Toyota Hilux range and will continue to be available in 4x2 and 4x4 configurations (depending on national markets) and in Single Cab, Extra Cab and Double Cab body styles. The engine is available with a five-speed manual transmission.</p>

<p>The introduction of a high performance turbo-intercooler, and other developments result in power from the 2.5-litre D-4D engine boosted by seventeen per cent to 120 DIN hp. Top speed is now 165 km/h (4x2 manual transmission) and 155 km/h for 4x4 version.</p>

<p>At the same time the torque output from this engine reaches now a remarkable 325 Nm, over a broad range of the rev band, giving the 2.5-litre D-4D Hilux a very good balance between excellent driving pleasure and low fuel consumption. On the combined cycle, the Hilux 2.5-litre D-4D will deliver from 7.4 l/100 km to 8.3l/100km, depending on the model.</p>

<p>The addition of the intercooler and optimisation of the oxidisation catalytic converter ensures that the 2.5-litre D-4D is now fully compliant with Euro IV emissions standards.</p>

<p>Sales of the more powerful Hilux 2.5-litre D-4D starts during Q4 2006, depending on body type.</p>

<h2><strong>Enhanced styling and comfort features</strong></h2>

<p>A key selling point of the new Toyota Hilux is its modern design, offering superior quality and significant improvements in interior space and modularity. Frontal styling is bold and aggressive with the deep front bumper and massive bonnet adding to the sense of authority.</p>

<p>The appeal of the Hilux is further enhanced by styling changes to give a more rugged look. These include the addition of an air scoop on the bonnet to increase air-flow for the intercooler and front fog lamps on SR grade models and above.</p>

<p>At the same time, the latest Hilux will be available in several additional exterior colours including Night Sky Black, Stellar Blue and Stone Grey.</p>

<p>A more hi-tech, premium quality ambience is created with new, Optitron meters exclusively for the 3.0-litre D-4D model, which also receives a multi-information display and shift position indicator (auto transmission only).</p>

<p>Driving pleasure is further enhanced on the 3.0-litre D-4D automatic with the inclusion of cruise control as a standard feature.</p>

<p>Included in the list of available options is full map, DVD-based navigation with touch-screen and dynamic route guidance. This clear, easy-to-use system provides precise navigation across European countries and will suggest alternative routes if traffic congestion builds up on the original choice (subject to local national licensing). The DVD-navigation also integrates the audio system with radio, CD and MP3 player.</p>

<p>All models on SR grade and above receive a fabric covering for the sun visor.</p>

Available only with the 3.0-litre D-4D, the Hilux SR-X will appeal to customers wanting to maximise the premium leisure status of their Hilux with features such as full leather interior trim, DVD-navigation, unique alloy wheels and chrome side bars.</p>

<p>There will also be more customer choice in the range with the introduction of an Extra Cab model for right hand drive markets in 4x4 configuration.</p>

<h2><strong>Bold concept for mini SUV</strong></h2>

<p>The Urban Cruiser is a bold new concept that showcases a possible approach by Toyota to the mini SUV segment. The Urban Cruiser draws heavily on Toyota&rsquo;s heritage in Sports Utility Vehicles but also adds its own dynamic flair and rugged originality. The Urban Cruiser features a fresh interior style based on modern furniture design.</p>

<h2><strong>Advanced concepts</strong></h2>

<p>Glimpses of the future which reveal how Toyota can minimise environmental impact while providing transport solutions:<strong>&bull; Fine-T</strong>: The next step in fuel-cell hybrid vehicles offers the cabin space of an Avensis within the approximate exterior dimensions of a Yaris<strong>&bull; i-swing</strong>: A new evolution in personal mobility, building on p.o.d and i-unit. i-swing offers a more direct form of human-machine interaction by adopting the latest technologies in robotics.</p>

<h2><strong>New model ranges</strong></h2>

<p>Fresh from their world debut, the all-new Toyota RAV4 and Yaris model ranges will be on show. Also displayed are the latest versions of AYGO by Toyota with the 1.0-litre petrol and the new 1.4-litre diesel engines.</p>

<p>The Toyota D-4D 180 is demonstrated at the Geneva Motor Show in the Toyota RAV4, Toyota Avensis Station Wagon and the Corolla Verso.</p>

<p>The Toyota Prius is now clearly established as the world&rsquo;s best selling hybrid car and it has been a sales success since its launch in Japan in 1997. Approximately 450,000 cars have been sold worldwide since that date and production capacity has recently been expanded further to cope with worldwide demand. Moreover, in order to satisfy demand in China, the production of Prius in this country has started at the end of last year, in Changchun City.</p>

<p>The newly improved Toyota Prius will be instantly recognisable by the fresh exterior design which creates a more refined appearance.</p>

<p>The front grille has been redesigned, featuring now a chrome insert, and a new front spoiler both improves the aerodynamics at high speed and helps create a more distinctive look.</p>

<p>The headlamps have been subtly restyled to create a more flowing look. Smoked clear coating has been applied to the headlamp extension while an inner lens has been added below the turn indicator lamp.</p>

<p>At the rear, chrome-plate mouldings have been utilised in the lamp structure and a white background to the stop lamp replaces the current black to add to the appeal.</p>

<p>This latest Prius will be available with a choice of eight exterior body colours with four new tones added (Ultra Silver, Barcelona Red, Opal Green and Ash Grey).</p>

<h2><strong>Qualitative improvements inside</strong></h2>

<p>Throughout the interior of the newly improved Toyota Prius there have been significant enhancements to trim and finish to create a more refined environment.</p>

<p><em>The main surfaces of the instrument panel reveal a new, softer texture and a darker colour. This finish is extended to the upper door trims, front and rear. The seats&rsquo; fabric colour is new and its stitching patterns have been simplified.</em></p>

<p>For the ultimate comfort, genuine leather seats and a leather trimmed steering wheel become available. As an integrated part of the package, the centre console box is also leather (synthetic) trimmed.</p>

<p>Rear seat passengers will find additional comfort in the improved Prius. The seat width and main portion of the seat back have been increased in width by 50 mm and a redesigned rear seat cushion has lowered the hip-point by 6 mm.</p>

<p>These design changes will increase hip space for rear seat passengers while also increasing headroom.</p>

<h2><strong>Sharper driving dynamics</strong></h2>

<p>In comparison with the model introduced in 2004, the newly improved Prius benefits from modifications focused on specific areas like chassis stiffness, to improve stability, suspension tuning to improve ride comfort and steering control to enhance response and feel. There have also been some aerodynamic changes to increase high-speed stability.</p>

<p>Chassis stiffness has been increased by the addition of reinforcement plates, notably around the rear cross member mounting, and by modifying parts such as the rear side and cross members.</p>

<p>In the rear suspension, the toe-correction bushings have been retuned for better compliance and the shock absorbers changed to give better ride comfort.</p>

<p>The electric power steering ECU settings have been modified in order to provide better steering feel and a number of changes made to stiffen the steering mounts to create more precise reaction. These changes include fitting stiffer alloy wheels which will react more precisely to directional changes.</p>

<p>The underbody aerodynamics have been improved by the fitment of a different engine undercover, the new front lip spoiler and new rear tyre spats to aid airflow around the rear wheels and tyres.</p>

<h2><strong>Advanced technology showcase</strong></h2>

<p>As one of the most sophisticated passenger cars available today, the Toyota Prius is also a showcase for advanced technologies. This newly improved version offers new state-of-the-art features, which not only demonstrate this principle but also enhance the driving experience.</p>

<p>The highlight is the Intelligent Park Assist (IPA) system, another world-first available in Prius &ndash; is unique and simple to operate, allowing the driver to select the target parking spot and then control the speed, while the car steers itself.</p>

<p>The system is designed to assist the driver in both parallel and &lsquo;rear-on&rsquo; parking situations and is activated by the IPA button on the dashboard. The driver then selects the target parking spot on the touch-sensitive viewing screen and the IPA sets the vehicle in motion, selecting the correct steering angle for each step of the process. The driver retains control of the speed of the vehicle through the brake pedal, deciding when to stop.</p>

<p>IPA is a simple system which takes signals from the electric power steering, yaw rate, acceleration and wheel angle sensors, the skid control ECU and the hybrid system&rsquo;s ECU.</p>

<p><em>If the driver prefers not to use IPA, there is also the more conventional Toyota Park Assist system which relies on a new, more compact rear camera to show images in the viewing screen. Superimposed on these images are colour-coded guidelines which show the predicted path of the Prius as it is reversed into the available space.</em></p>

<p>Also available with the newly improved Prius is the most sophisticated DVD-based satellite navigation system in the segment.</p>

<p>The navigation system is voice activated in three languages (English, French and German) for functions including phone control, audio, navigation and air conditioning. Route guidance is provided in 10 languages including, for the first time, Norwegian and Portuguese.</p>

<p>Improved map graphics now feature three-dimensional icons for points of interest and major landmarks.</p>

<p>For the first time in Prius, this system features RDS-TMC (Radio Data System &ndash; Traffic Message Channel) for countries with the appropriate infrastructure. This is a dynamic, real time route guidance feature that monitors traffic congestion on route and suggests alternatives if bad traffic conditions build up.</p>

<p>Furthermore, the new navigation system features a completely new ECU, delivering 65% faster calculation speed.</p>

<p>The newly improved Prius is fitted with a totally new audio head unit with a digital filter on the radio tuner to improve reception and the capability to play CDs with MP3 and WMA files.</p>

<p>Its DSP amplifier features Live Acoustic System, which utilises digital acoustic effects to improve sound quality. These include TruBass (which extends bass sounds in the frequency range between 100 Hz and 200 Hz to produce an effect similar to a sub-woofer) and Focus (which emphasises sound around the 8 kHz frequency and makes passengers think the sound is coming from the front of the car, rather than speakers in the doors).</p>

<p>There is an auxiliary socket in the centre console for connecting portable devices, such as an iPod or other MP3 player, to the audio system.</p>

<p>The audio unit also features Automatic Sound Leveliser, which adjusts volume and equaliser settings, to compensate for an increase in cabin noise due to speed.</p>

<p><strong>Toyota Urban Cruiser</strong></p>

<p>Toyota is using the Geneva Motor Show to showcase its concept for a compact, rugged mini SUV that could bring a fresh approach to the segment.</p>

<p>The Urban Cruiser draws heavily on Toyota&rsquo;s heritage in Sports Utility Vehicles through the legendary Land Cruiser range, the best-selling RAV4 and the tough Hilux. It has styling cues typical of Toyota SUVs but also adds its own dynamic flair to bring a more rugged originality to the mini SUV segment.</p>

<p>The Urban Cruiser is a product of ED2, Toyota&rsquo;s European styling studio in the south of France and is the work of chief designer Elvio d&rsquo;Aprile. He worked with Porsche and Pininfarina before joining Toyota in Japan in 1994 and then moved to ED2 when it opened in 2000. Elvio was also the chief designer of the Corolla Verso, a vehicle frequently praised by its dynamic and robust design.</p>

<p><em>&ldquo;Typical customers in the mini SUV segment are urban individualists&rdquo;, says Elvio d&rsquo;Aprile.</em> <em>&ldquo;They are seeking a rugged look within a compact body and want to stand out, and above, the crowd. The Urban Cruiser concept is the car that will allow them to freely express their personality.&rdquo;</em></p>

<p><em>&ldquo;The Urban Cruiser breaks with conventionality by bringing something different to the mini SUV segment. It is more dynamic, but also rugged and brings the special Toyota SUV flair.&rdquo;</em></p>

<p>The Urban Cruiser is the latest Toyota to be created under the Vibrant Clarity design philosophy which now underpins all the latest Toyota creations. By working to the Vibrant Clarity discipline, Toyota aims to bring the two elements of successful design, form and function, together under one package.</p>

<p>Therefore, Vibrant Clarity combines two elements: Vibrant form, which stands for dynamism and energy, plus Clarity of function which calls for more rational values such as simplicity and logic.</p>

<h2><strong>Fresh, robust exterior</strong></h2>

<p>The Urban Cruiser concept clearly demonstrates design similarities with other models in the Toyota range and draws on the company&rsquo;s long established heritage in SUVs. It shows the quality inherent in all Toyota design while adding the fresh and robust look that this segment demands.</p>

<p>The Toyota SUV heritage is most evident in the extensive use of a trapezoidal design element that is now in the front bumper, the grille and lower door panels. This creates a dynamic feeling but also suggests protection.</p>

<p>Furthermore, the trapezoidal form can also be found on the side window, evoking a Toyota design cue reminiscent of several other models, like AYGO, Corolla Hatchback, Corolla Verso, the new RAV4 and others.</p>

<p>The massive wheel arches are also intended to emphasise the SUV character. They converge towards the car&rsquo;s geometric centre in order to provide a compact and agile shape while disguising the relatively long wheelbase &ndash; itself designed to create maximum interior space.</p>

<p>You can see all the elements of the Vibrant Clarity design philosophy in Urban Cruiser. These are defined within the four principles of P.A.S.S. (Proportion, Architecture, Surface, Special touch).</p>

<p><em><strong>&bull; Proportion:</strong> the long cabin &ndash; offering excellent interior space &ndash; combines with short, powerful overhangs to create an effect of perfect imbalance. This results in a massive, but dynamic body proportion.<strong>&bull; Architecture:</strong> when viewed from above, there is a pronounced V-shape to the front &ndash; created by the dominant front and rear wheel arches which stand out from the bodyshell.<strong>&bull; Surface:</strong> the extensive use of trapezoidal design is distinctive in the front bumper shape and the freeform surface of the lower door panels.<strong>&bull; Special touch:</strong> The crispness of the overall exterior design is completed by sharply sliced surfaces that can be found in the front and rear bumpers.</em></p>

<p>In addition to these distinguishing elements, the Urban Cruiser makes a significant break from the conventional with the use of satin finish exterior body paint rather than the common gloss.</p>

<h2><strong>Fashion-led interior</strong></h2>

<p>Just as the exterior design of Urban Cruiser breaks from the conventional, the interior adopts a new approach too. Here the designer wanted to move away from the traditional car interior design and focus on examples outside the car industry, such as modern furniture.</p>

<p>It is the work of Yi Yeong Jae, the Korean designer who also created the Toyota Motor Triathlon Race Car, shown one year ago, at this same motor show.</p>

<p><em>&ldquo;I was inspired by the designs of modern, fashionable furniture,&rdquo; says Yi Yeong Jae. &ldquo;The interior design consists of several different surfaces which are treated as different, independent layers.</em> <em>This is the case with the seats, the door panels and the dashboard.&rdquo;</em></p>

<p>There is a feeling of spaciousness inside Urban Cruiser which is in keeping with its roomy but compact concept. The seats adopt a thin, elegant design that is both space saving and comfortable. The materials are modern with a premium quality and show some of the characteristics of nylon.</p>

<p>Special features of the interior design include the door handles &ndash; created to facilitate use &ndash; and the navigation screen which is viewed through a transparent curved panel integrated into the centre console.</p>

The Fine-T was developed based on this vision. To achieve this revolutionary, highly efficient package, the compact fuel-cell unit has been installed under the floor and there is in-wheel motor drive for all four wheels. To further enhance the calm and relaxed atmosphere of the interior, we employed variable lighting intensity to produce a calming effect over the instrument panel and door trim. The Fine-T demonstrates the awesome space-efficiency and hospitality that are possible in an FCHV.</em></p>

<p>The Fine-T extends warm hospitality to users by alleviating the effort of getting in and out. As the gull-wing doors open, the driver&rsquo;s seat rotates outward to assist in boarding.</p>

<p>Once the user is seated, the seat glides back automatically to the driving position. When ready to leave the vehicle, pressing a button sets the seat to the exiting position, and the user can simply stand up to get out. The drive-by-wire steering system stows away automatically when preparing to exit the vehicle.</p>

Hydrogen supplied from Toyota-built, 70 MPa (approx. 700 atmospheres) storage tanks reacts chemically with oxygen (from the air) to produce electricity in the company&rsquo;s proprietary fuel cell stack (the Toyota FC Stack), which, like the vehicle&rsquo;s storage battery (when needed), drives the electric motors that power the vehicle. A power control unit efficiently manages the power sources (the fuel cell stack and storage battery).</em></p>

<p>To fit its compact dimensions, the Fine-T employs a downsized, higher-performance new Toyota FC Stack configuration. This fuel cell stack adopts a new alloy catalyst, which allows a dramatic reduction in the amount of precious metals used. These units are mounted beneath the vehicle floor, thereby creating more cabin space, while yielding a radically low center-of-gravity and low inertia moment, which contribute to an exhilarating driving experience and help enable large steering angles.</p>

<p><em>In addition, a drive-by-wire system connects the driver&rsquo;s controls to actuators that operate vehicle functions, providing an unprecedented degree of freedom in vehicle navigation. In front-axle/rear-axle turning mode, the vehicle can be turned around from the front or rear. This maneuvering capability is particularly handy for parallel parking, both when entering and exiting inline parking spots. In directional change mode, continuously variable steering of the front and rear wheels allows a change of direction of almost the entire length of the vehicle in four directions. This enables U-turns on dead-end streets and when coming out of inline parking spots. On-the-spot turning mode, as the name suggests, allows 360-degree turning on the vertical axis.</em></p>

<p>The Fine-T employs peripheral monitoring video cameras and a large display to support freedom of vehicle movement and reinforce active safety functions. Side cameras are located at the door handle position on the left and right doors. Combined, these video cameras monitor the entire periphery of the vehicle for obstacles. A large display on the instrument panel shows views of both sides of the vehicle. The central area of the display contains an obstacle recognition screen.</p>

<p>The display helps extend visibility to areas around the vehicle the driver cannot normally see.</p>

<h2><strong>Adopting &ldquo;carbon-neutral&rdquo; materials</strong></h2>

<p>With the Fine-T, Toyota pursued the possibilities of using carbon-neutral materials over a wide range of interior fittings, processing polylactic acid (PLA*), obtained from sugar cane, as well as Kenaf and other plant fiber into a variety of textures for door trim, suede-like ceiling material, seat nets and floor mats.</p>

<p>This demonstrated how, thanks to state-of-the-art information technology, personal mobility vehicles could take on human-like emotional and learning behaviors. Following the &ldquo;PM&rdquo; of 2003, the &ldquo;i-unit&rdquo; Toyota exhibited at EXPO 2005 AICHI (Exposition of Global Harmony) was a personal mobility vehicle that used the smallest amount of energy required to transport one person. It also offered freedom of movement for the individual, and greater possibilities for humankind, thereby making it truly environmentally compatible.</p>

<p><em>Our latest in this series of personal mobility vehicles is the i-swing. With its small, flexible body, the i-swing fits right into a person&rsquo;s living space. The i-swing also exhibits human-like freedom of movement and can be customized almost like choosing an outfit. Through two-way communication employing a range of advanced devices, this new form of mobility allows more individual expression and deeper social interaction, going far beyond the capabilities of conventional vehicles.</em></p>

When seated in the &ldquo;minimum-size open-face body&rdquo; of the i-swing, eye-level is about the same as when standing, allowing unhindered conversation with people met along the way. The body is constructed of shock-absorbing, low-rebound polyurethane and the exterior surface is partly covered with fabric as a measure against making people feel oppressed in crowded situations.</p>

<p><em>The fabric on the i-swing&rsquo;s exterior surface can be detached and changed. This allows for customization of the vehicle according to, say, the seasons of the year. The user can personalize the display by installing self-crafted video and still picture images or those downloaded from the Internet. <p><em>The i-swing offers two driving modes: two-wheel and three-wheel. The two-wheel mode allows for confident and safe driving while moving among people in the city. The three-wheel mode provides highly maneuverable performance on the same roads as regular traffic. Vehicle control changes according to the mode, assuring high levels of both ride comfort and dynamic performance.</em></p>

<p>The three-wheeler runs on two rear-drive wheels and one steerable front wheel, with the left and right rear wheels moving up and down independently. During acceleration and deceleration, the entire vehicle body tilts forward and backward shifting the center of gravity.</p>

<p>When turning left and right, the vehicle body tilts inwards so that the pressure on the driver is always applied downward along the body axis.</p>

<p>Although a high center of gravity and extremely short tread and wheelbase would normally make stable movement difficult in a machine like the I-swing, the position of the center of gravity and the balance of weight on each wheel, as well as motive power, are controlled automatically, much like the movement of a human body when running, turning and stopping.</p>

<p>The result is excellent dynamic performance and a natural ride feel.</p>

<p>During three-wheel driving, the i-swing operating system offers two modes to match the driver&rsquo;s operational skill and purpose.</p>

<p><em>In &ldquo;Comfort Mode&rdquo;, two linked joysticks alone are used. Vehicle attitude (center-of-gravity position) and front-wheel steering, as well as rear wheel left/right drive power, are optimally controlled simply by pushing a joystick in the intended direction of travel. This makes driving easy and pleasant for anyone. Lifting the joystick diagonally forward switches the i-swing to &ldquo;Active Mode&rdquo;. At the same time, the driver assumes a forward-inclined attitude to facilitate agile movements. The joystick sensitivity increases and at the same time, foot pedals can control the vehicle attitude. The driver keeps assuming the optimal posture for the next movement, skilfully accelerating, braking and turning in a series of driving actions that feels much like skiing.</em></p>

<p>With suitable training, drivers can even put in a performance that resembles dancing.</p>

<p><em>With the front wheel stowed away between the two rear wheels, the i-swing goes into two-wheel driving mode, using a gyrosensor for inverted control. One can switch to this driving mode when the i-swing is standing still or moving at low speed. As in three-wheel driving mode, operating the joystick moves the I-swing forward/backward as the center of gravity shifts forward and backward under optimal control, while turning is accomplished by rotational speed difference between the left and right wheels.</em></p>

<p><em>The driver&rsquo;s head is located centrally with respect to the vehicle axle. So when turning on the spot, the movement feels natural, just like turning your own body around. When stationary, the controller maintains the center of gravity above the center of the vehicle axle, so even if the driver significantly shifts position, the vehicle remains more or less stationary as long as there is no joystick operation. The driver&rsquo;s posture also remains constant, even when the vehicle is traveling up and down gradients.</em></p>

<p>When two i-swings are brought together, they can travel side by side with one i-swing becoming the master vehicle. Joystick inputs on the master vehicle are transmitted through short-range communications to the second vehicle, which mimics the master&rsquo;s movements. Since the two vehicles travel by operating the master vehicle alone, the driver of the second vehicle enjoys the same relationship to the actual driver as someone in the passenger seat of a conventional car.</p>

<h2><strong>Artificial Intelligence communication</strong></h2>

<p>The i-swing uses A.I. (artificial intelligence) technology to communicate with the driver. This takes the form of a virtual character, which appears in pop-up displays at left and right shoulder level, and changes depending on the driver&rsquo;s personality. Even after leaving the vehicle, driver and vehicle remain linked by mobile phone or personal computer.</p>

<p>A.I. allows the vehicle to learn the driver&rsquo;s behavior patterns, and to select pertinent information based on this learning, either from memory or the Internet, for communication with the driver at a particular time and place.</p>

<p>Thanks to A.I., the i-swing has the potential to make our lives in the real world more enjoyable and fulfilling.</p>

<p>&nbsp; <strong>The third-generation Toyota RAV4</strong></p>

<h2><strong>Redefining the standard in compact SUVs</strong></h2>

<p>The all-new Toyota RAV4 is setting fresh benchmarks in the compact Sports Utility Vehicle segment with the introduction of premium levels of driving performance, quality, passenger comfort and equipment.</p>

<p><em>The new RAV4 is the third generation of a model that is a best seller in Europe and a worldwide success for Toyota. At launch, in 1994, the Toyota RAV4 established the popularity of compact sports utility vehicles and more than 2 million RAV4s have been sold since then. More than 655,000 RAV4s have been sold in Europe alone (by end-year &rsquo;05).</em></p>

<p>The RAV4 has been completely redesigned for 2006, taking into account modern customer expectations. Its primary role will be to confirm Toyota as the leading carmaker in the SUV-compact segment.</p>

<p>The new Toyota RAV4 is 145 mm longer (4,395mm &ndash; 4315mm without backdoor spare wheel) than the current generation, with a significantly increased wheelbase (+70 mm) and rear overhang. This allows greatly improved passenger comfort; the cabin length (1,820mm) has been increased by 85mm with the couple distance between front and rear seats increased by 55 mm.</p>

<p>The width is also increased (by 80mm) and increased shoulder space allows the front seats to be set further apart, again improving comfort. Height remains below that of many competitors, emphasising the sleek, squat styling and premium passenger car driving performance of the RAV4. But the rear seat headroom has been improved, allowing the new RAV4 to seat five adults in comfort.</p>

<p>And, despite the lengthened wheelbase, a lower turning circle of 5.1 meters has been achieved &ndash; well below many rival vehicles.</p>

<p>The precision of the interior structure underlines the premium quality of the new RAV4. The elimination of any break lines, the tight panel gaps and the matching of surface levels all contribute to the perceived quality of the vehicle and are a tribute to its engineering excellence.</p>

<p>The interior volume has been increased to 3,822 litres, an increase of 13% on the outgoing model. This is most noticeable in the luggage compartment, the rear passenger headroom and the shoulder room.</p>

<p>The newly developed rear suspension with the shock absorbers positioned diagonally under the floor results in a 230mm increase in the luggage room width.</p>

<p>Using one of two one-touch levers, easily accessible from the rear tailgate, the rear seats can be folded down into the rear floor space to leave an &lsquo;easy-flat&lsquo; luggage space without the need to remove any seat cushions or headrests.</p>

<p>The rear seats can also split (60:40) for maximum flexibility and can recline on an individual basis. They can slide backwards and forwards over 165mm to greatly enhance passenger comfort or increase luggage capacity. The flat boot floor also offers additional, underfloor storage space for increased security &ndash; and the rear luggage cover can be stowed here when not in use.</p>

<p>The three, hi-tech analogue Optitron meters dominate the instrument panel and give a premium, sporty image. The multi-information display offers a wide range of customisable function setting options including six languages1 and metric or imperial units.</p>

Available in the premium RAV4 X, it enables customers to enjoy a top speed of 200km/h and acceleration to 100 km/h in 9.3 seconds while achieving combined fuel consumption of 7.0 litres/100km.</p>

<p>The D-4D 180 is not only powerful, but clean - thanks to Toyota&rsquo;s advanced and unique Toyota D-CAT (Diesel Clean Advanced Technology), an emissions control technology which reduces NOx and particulate emissions at the same time.</p>

<p>Equally impressive are the other two engines available across the RAV4 range: the D-4D 135 diesel and the latest development of the 2.0 VVT-i petrol.</p>

<p><em>Like the D-4D 180, the D-4D 135 uses 32-bit processor technology for accurate and optimum control of main engine functions, leading to enhanced engine efficiency. With maximum power output of 100kW (136 DIN hp) this engine allows the new RAV4 to reach a top speed of 180 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.5 seconds.</em></p>

<p>Maximum torque of 310 Nm over the engine range of 2,000 rpm to 2,800 rpm gives excellent mid-gear acceleration and flexible driving performance while preserving remarkable fuel economy. The Toyota RAV4 D-4D 135 combined fuel consumption is 6.6 litres/100km.</p>

<p>The new Toyota RAV4 with 2.2-litre D-4D engines will come as standard with the latest Toyota six-speed manual transmission which boasts smooth, quick and precise gear-change.</p>

<p>For customers who prefer the smooth power delivery of a petrol engine, the new RAV4 is available with the latest development of the 2.0-litre VVT-i. In the new RAV4, the engine develops 112 kW (152 DIN hp) at 6,000 rpm and has maximum torque available of 194 Nm at 4,000rpm.</p>

<p>The Yaris has won numerous awards. Back in 1999, the car won the prestigious &lsquo;European Car of the Year&rsquo; as well as &lsquo;Japan&rsquo;s Car of the Year&rsquo;, making it the first model ever to achieve such recognition across the globe.</p>

<p><em>The Yaris also received the highest segment score in the Euro NCAP crash tests at the turn of the millennium. Winning 29 points in total, it became the safest supermini compact car that year.</em></p>

<p>In the same year, Toyota began production of the Yaris at its Valenciennes plant (TMMF) in France. 2001 was an important year for Toyota as it saw the introduction of the first all-aluminium diesel engine in the world. The highly-acclaimed 1.4-litre D-4D engine was swiftly added to the Yaris engine line-up.</p>

<p>Having achieved a solid reputation for reliable engineering and safety, the Yaris underwent a major restyle in 2003.</p>

<p>The Yaris has had a unique life-cycle, with ever-growing annual sales seeing figures rise from 134,717 in 1999 to an impressive 227,616 in 2004. Yaris now represents a quarter of Toyota&rsquo;s annual car sales across the continent, being simultaneously the best-selling Toyota in Europe.</p>

<p><em>Last year saw the 500,000th Yaris built at the efficient TMMF plant. In total, over 1.2 million units were sold across Europe since its launch.</em></p>

<p><em>For the development of the new Toyota Yaris, Chief Engineer Kousuke Shibahara focused on three key points to explain the concept behind his project. First and foremost, the new product had to remain faithful to the Yaris DNA: an advanced package, high levels of interior space and versatility, use of advanced technology, comfort, safety and performance. This also includes a constant focus in the continuous improvement of every aspect of quality, durability and reliability.</em></p>

<p>Secondly, Mr. Shibahara wanted to raise the level of sophistication through a more refined execution. This would translate into improved perceived quality, lower levels of noise and vibration, and more advanced powertrains.</p>

<p><em>Finally, Toyota wanted to give the new Yaris customer a more &lsquo;upper-class&rsquo; feel compared to the current model. The method was to take an in-depth approach to a multitude of different areas such as driving dynamics and overall quality, and to even more specific details such as the door-closing sound.</em></p>

<p><em>The new Yaris comes equipped with a comprehensive engine range to suit every customer&rsquo;s needs. To start, there is the 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder VVT-i petrol engine, with 69 DIN hp (51 kW) at 6,000 rpm and a decent 93 Nm of torque at 3,600 rpm. This is followed by the 1.3-litre VVT-i petrol engine, available in the current Yaris, with 87 DIN hp (64 kW) at 6,000 rpm and a 121 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. Next up is the 1.4-litre D-4D diesel engine, first introduced on the Corolla, with 90 DIN hp (66 kW) at 3,600 rpm and 190 Nm of torque at 1,800-3,000 rpm.</em></p>

<p>A 5-speed manual transmission is standard, although the advanced 5-speed MultiMode transmission is available as an option on all engines.</p>

<p>The new Yaris comes in three grades. The entry level, named &lsquo;Yaris&rsquo;, comes with sufficient safety and interior packaging features to set it far apart from other cars in its segment. This includes front and side airbags (for both front occupants), 185/60 R 15 tyres, tilt steering wheel adjustment, power door locks, electric rear view mirrors and a CD player audio system with four speakers.</p>

<p>In the mid level &lsquo;Yaris Luna&rsquo;, the model comes equipped with convenience items such as power door locks with remote control, leather steering wheel with telescopic adjustment and audio switches, a 6-speaker audio system capable of playing MP3 and WMA CDs and extra safety features including curtain shield airbags and driver&rsquo;s knee airbag.</p>

<p>At the top end there is the &lsquo;Yaris Sol&rsquo;, which comes with additional features including an automatic air conditioner, special plating on the door handles and handbrake, front fog lamps and 15-inch alloy wheels.</p>

<p>Before bringing the new Yaris to life, Toyota had given its designers a very clear brief, based on four principles. The new Yaris had to evoke the current model, which is what we call &lsquo;Yarisness&rsquo;; it should have a strong and distinctive presence in order to differentiate it from other cars; refinement and sophistication should be present throughout the car; and, finally, the new Yaris should look dynamic, inspiring movement and relentless action.</p>

<p>Toyota promoted a worldwide competition joined by three design studios: ED<sup>2</sup> (Toyota&rsquo;s design studio in Europe), Toyota Motor Corporation&rsquo;s design studio (at the company&rsquo;s headquarters, in Japan) and Technoart, Inc., an affiliated design studio located in Nagoya, Japan.</p>

<p>ED<sup>2</sup>&rsquo;s proposal was found to be the closest to the initial brief. The European design concept was further developed in Japan, combining engineering and production requirements.</p>

<p><em>The new Yaris, together with the most recent creations from Toyota, has been developed according to the brand&rsquo;s current design philosophy &ndash; <strong>&lsquo;Vibrant Clarity</strong>&rsquo;. It combines two different principles: one stands for dynamism and energy, while the other calls for more rational values like simplicity and logic. By doing this, Toyota intends to bring form and function together within the same package.</em></p>

<p>&lsquo;Vibrant Clarity&rsquo; is expressed through four different elements, to be found throughout the car: Proportion, Architecture, Surface and a final Special touch.</p>

<p>In terms of architecture, the integrated bumper shape and vertical lines extending from the bottom of the windshield &ndash; a feature already visible in other Toyota models, like Avensis - give the new Yaris a strong face. When seen from a rear 3&frasl;4 angle, a powerful stance is created by the curved belt line, which expands to the rear hatch glass and culminates in the Toyota badge.</p>

<p>The combination of convex and concave surfaces with sharp lines creates a virtual feeling of depth and strength beyond its physical dimensions, perfectly fulfilling the <strong>surface</strong> brief for the new Yaris.</p>

<p>Several features, like the bulge on the bonnet encircling the Toyota badge and a special honing treatment applied to the headlights&rsquo; inner lens (used to achieve a particularly shiny look) make up the <strong>special touch</strong> element.</p>

<p>The cabin of the new Yaris is filled with elements that provide an emotional appearance but also have a rational and functional purpose in mind.</p>

<p>The vertically aligned centre console, culminating in the upper instrument cluster, provides a sense of proportion, simultaneously providing a special touch to the dashboard. However, its vertical configuration provides additional space for the side pockets and additional legroom for passengers.</p>

<p><em>The architecture of the cabin is brought to life by the adoption of light colours around the door armrest, pillars and headliner, named by the design team as &lsquo;loop style concept&rsquo;. This provides an additional feel of spaciousness. An effort was made to provide a feel of visual and tactile consistency around this area.</em></p>

<p>The upper dashboard is dominated by clean surfaces and solid shapes, further reinforced by a flush component fitting (in some cases 30% better than in the current model), that hide the two upper gloveboxes (driver and passenger) and the passenger airbag cover. This area also features a new geometric grain pattern.</p>

<p>Another special touch is brought by the rear seat. Its design gathers a group of functionalities that are unique in the segment. Besides sliding and reclining independently for each side (on a 60/40 split), the Toyota Easy Flat (to be further explained in a next chapter) allows the user to easily fold down the seat, delivering a fully flat cargo floor.</p>

<p>Other refinements have been introduced in order to confer a class-leading quality feel. Both upper glovebox lids and all assist grips are damped and there is a full colour and illumination co-ordination on the centre console. The centre air registers also adopt fin-type shutters.</p>

<p>The cabin of the new Yaris also presents significantly lower levels of noise and vibration than the outgoing model. This has been achieved thanks to the application of several measures like, for instance, the adoption of double sealing for all side doors.</p>

<p>The final touch is given by a very important detail &ndash; the door closing sound &ndash; decisive from the very first contact with the new Yaris. The entire door structure was reinforced so that it doesn&rsquo;t resonate when closing and improved locks were adopted. The result is a door closing sound that can compare with upper-segment cars.</p>

<p>Body length has been increased by 110 mm from the current Yaris, to 3,750 mm. This, along with a lengthier wheelbase of 2,460 mm (90 mm longer than the old model), means the new Yaris offers a substantially larger interior environment.</p>

<p>However, in spite of the large increase in exterior size, its turning radius is actually tighter than the outgoing model (from 4.9 m to 4.4 m, with 14&rsquo;&rsquo; wheels), beating also all its direct competitors.</p>

<p><em>Additionally, the body&rsquo;s &lsquo;<strong>cab-forward&rsquo; concept</strong> was further improved by reducing the front overhang and moving the windscreen base 120 mm forward, which enables an even more efficient use of interior space. Because of this, front-rear hip-point distance has increased by as much as 45 mm, now at 880 mm &ndash; on par with C-segment cars.</em></p>

<p><em>The new Yaris is taller than its predecessor with an increase in body height of as much as 30 mm. As a result, the new model can now accommodate even taller passengers &ndash; <strong>above 1.92 m</strong> &ndash; which is considerably more than the 95th percentile of the European population (1.88 m). In addition, both front and rear hip-points are now set higher, which facilitates entry to and exit from the vehicle.</em></p>

<p>The driver receives more legroom in the new Toyota Yaris thanks to the positioning of the pedals, which have been moved forward to allow for better comfort.</p>

<p><em>Rear passengers benefit from modular, fully adjustable rear seats that are able to slide backwards or forwards up to 150 mm. Keeping in with the &lsquo;ease-of-use&rsquo; theme inherent in the design of the new Yaris cabin, this can be done easily and independently for the left or right side, on a 60/40 split. Additionally, rear seat-backs are reclinable up to 10&deg;, independently for the left or right side, again on a 60/40 split &ndash; a unique feature in the segment.</em></p>

<p><em>The usual exhaust tunnel has been suppressed in the rear floor of the new Toyota Yaris, therefore adopting <strong>a flatter configuration</strong> &ndash; something that greatly improves the comfort of the centre rear seat passenger. This has been achieved by ingeniously re-routing the exhaust pipe, thus allowing a new design for the floor plan. This solution allows the new Yaris to do something that has so far not been possible with a conventional B-segment: to transport 5 adults in complete comfort.</em></p>

The system allows the seat-folding operation to be accomplished 65% quicker than is possible in the current Yaris.</em></p>

<p>Toyota Easy Flat also allows an increase in boot space by storing the seat cushion under the seat back, and not between the front seat and rear seat-back as with conventional seat-folding systems.</p>

<p>In addition, the rear seat can be folded without removing the headrests. They can also be folded down with the front seats at the rearmost position.</p>

<p>Other ingenious touches include placing the seat fold lever at the top of the seat-back, thus enabling the user to fold down the rear seat from the trunk. This, again, marks another revolutionary move from the current generation of Yaris.</p>

<p>The Toyota Yaris trunk length has grown by 130 mm on the new Yaris to 535 mm. This adds a substantial amount of extra storage space in the boot area, ideal for carrying bigger items such as a baby buggy.</p>

<p><em>Altogether, with the rear seats at the front-most position, trunk space has been increased to 363 litres (including also the 50-litre underfloor storage compartment). This has been achieved largely by the lengthening in the boot area, and also by a new rear suspension design that reduces the intrusion of the suspension towers into the trunk by as much as 45 mm. Width has also grown by 30 mm, allowing for bulkier items to be stored easily in the luggage area.</em></p>

<p><em>Furthermore, luggage room with the rear seats down grows to a segment-beating 737 litres (loaded up to the top edge of the front seats). This is possible due to the more rational use of space allowed by the Toyota Easy Flat.</em></p>

<p><em>In total, the new Yaris offers 30% more storage space than the outgoing model, with as much as 18.2 litres storage capacity in the dashboard alone (17.1 litres when equipped with knee airbag). Door pockets and the trunk&rsquo;s underfloor compartment offer additional space.</em></p>

<p><em>Toyota has devised several solutions to maximise the available space inside the cabin of the new Yaris, one of which is the design of the front seats. Seat-backs are now 5 mm thinner than in the current Yaris, allowing a noticeable gain in rear legroom. The space between the front seat rails has been increased by 38 mm, which provides a more ample space for the rear passenger&rsquo;s feet and a more &lsquo;open&rsquo; interior environment.</em></p>

<p>Special seat cushions and seat-backs have been adopted for the front seats in the new Yaris, which are designed to provide a greater contact area with the hips, lumbar region and spine.</p>

<p><em>In addition, dashboard ergonomics have been greatly improved. For instance, the cup-holders are now 12% closer to the passenger, and the audio controls are more easily accessible. Furthermore, the lock on the passenger glovebox has been moved to the centre of the dashboard so that the driver has easy access to the unit.</em></p>

<p>The driver now benefits from telescopic adjustment for the steering. In addition, the front seat height and slide adjustment stroke has been increased over that of the current Yaris.</p>

<p>The new Toyota Yaris is available with the third generation of the Smart Entry & Start System.</p>

<p>The latest evolution of this system has a lighter key which is also 16% more compact. The cabin&rsquo;s dome lamp will turn on as soon as it detects the presence of the key in the vicinity of the car.</p>

<p>Additionally, the new Smart Entry & Start System doesn&rsquo;t require a dashboard key slot. In case the key&rsquo;s battery runs low, the driver only has to hold the key close to the start switch and press it afterwards to start the engine.</p>

<h2><strong>New audio system</strong></h2>

<p>The new Yaris is the first car in the Toyota range available with the carmaker&rsquo;s new audio head unit. The system can play MP3 and WMA (Windows Media Audio) files stored on a CD. Additionally, the newly adopted digital audio tuner allows a reduction of the AM/FM multipath noise, often an ongoing annoyance in vehicle audio systems.</p>

<p>The system boasts CD-TEXT capability, which makes it possible to display CD and track titles, if available on a soundtrack. There is a digital DSP amplifier equipped with Live Acoustic System (Live-ACS), a feature which emphasises bass sounds without distorting mid-range ones. These features are only available on &lsquo;Yaris Luna&lsquo; and &lsquo;Yaris Sol&lsquo; models.</p>

<p><em>Maximum output on this advanced audio system is 40 W, distributed by four channels. The system can be equipped with up to 6 speakers (&lsquo;Yaris Sol&rsquo;). This includes 16 cm speakers and 25 mm tweeters in the front doors, and 14 cm speakers in the rear doors.</em></p>

<p>In addition, the audio system installed in the &lsquo;Yaris Luna&lsquo; and &lsquo;Yaris Sol&lsquo; allows pre-installation of Toyota&rsquo;s Turn-by-Turn (TbT) navigation system, now featuring also Dynamic Route Guidance.</p>

<p>Concerning safety, Anti-lock brakes (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and, unusually in this segment, <strong>Brake Assist</strong> (BA) are standard equipment fitted across all models.</p>

<p><em>Disc diameter has been increased and is now <strong>among the largest in the sector</strong> &ndash; 258 mm at the front (ventilated) and 278 mm at the rear (for models produced in Europe). Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) ) and Traction Control (TRC) will also be available across all powertrains.</em></p>

<p>In selected models the rear brake calipers are made of aluminium. In addition, the parking brake function is now incorporated in the rear discs. These measures allow for less unsprung weight.</p>

<p>The brake booster is also new, featuring a bigger master cylinder (&oslash;22.22 x 38 mm). This in turn has improved the brake pedal feel, which is now more linear and incisive.</p>

<p>Furthermore, <strong>185/60 R 15 tyres</strong> are now standardised for the entire range (not available on Yaris 1.0 VVT-i, entry grade, in some countries).</p>

<p>The original Yaris was the safest supermini available at the time of its launch. In order to live up to its predecessor&rsquo;s image, the new Yaris also counts with a strong Euro NCAP performance. In spite of a very short front overhang &ndash; 725 mm, the shortest in the segment &ndash; the new Yaris has achieved a class-leading result at the Euro NCAP Adult Occupant Rating among B-segment cars &ndash; 35 points. In addition, this is the highest score ever attained by a Toyota model at the Euro NCAP tests.</p>

<p>Furthermore, Yaris was awarded 2 stars for pedestrian protection and 3 stars at the Child Protection Rating.</p>

<p>Several features have contributed to this high level of passive safety. Four airbags (dual front and side) are standard with curtain shield airbags, and a segment-first driver&rsquo;s <strong>knee airbag</strong> is also available. An energy absorption pad has been integrated in the door trim, which further complements the protection offered by the side and curtain shield airbags.</p>

<p>There is a <strong>seatbelt warning system</strong> for both front seat passengers, featuring a buzzer with <strong>variable intensity</strong> according to the vehicle&rsquo;s speed. Front seatbelt pretensioners with force limiter are also standard.</p>

<p>The new Yaris body structure has been developed using Toyota&rsquo;s <strong>Minimal Intrusion Cabin System</strong> (MICS), an advanced body structure concept first introduced in the Toyota Avensis.</p>

<p>MICS effectively disperses the energy of frontal or side impacts through the body in order to divert it away from the passenger cell and minimise cabin deformation.</p>

<p>In the case of a head-on collision, energy received by the front side members is transmitted to a complex under-body frame structure, and also to the upper body, through the A pillar and side bars installed in the front doors.</p>

<p>For side impacts, energy is dispersed through several roof crossmembers and two floor crossmembers. Furthermore, the B pillar benefits from reinforcement, courtesy of 590 MPa high-tensile steel, adopted to increase this section&rsquo;s stiffness.</p>

<p>Overall, the body structure&rsquo;s crash-resistance has been improved for frontal and side impacts by 20% and 30% respectively.</p>

<p>The Yaris&rsquo; frontal section also incorporates several measures which aim to improve the level of pedestrian protection. <strong>Plastic energy absorbers</strong> have been placed behind the grille and front spoiler and <strong>an energy absorbing structure</strong> has also been incorporated into the bumper reinforcement. These elements should minimise the level of injury to a pedestrian&rsquo;s lower and upper legs.</p>

<p><em>In order to reduce the risk of head injury, the structure underneath the cowl louver is now <strong>more deformable</strong>, which translates into higher energy absorption. Furthermore, a new bonnet structure supported by an increased engine clearance allows this component to deform more effectively in the event of a pedestrian impact.</em></p>

<h2><strong>Car-to-car compatibility</strong></h2>

<p>In addition to Euro NCAP activities, Toyota also conducts active research in other safety areas, including car-to-car compatibility. According to several statistics, a great amount of fatalities are caused by impacts against heavier vehicles.</p>

<p>After analysing several accident situations of this type, Toyota has developed its own internal standards and tests to ensure its cars better protect passengers in these circumstances.</p>

<h2>&nbsp;</h2>

<h2><strong>The pattern crash tests are:</strong></h2>

However, the manufacturer decided to adopt more stringent criteria by increasing this speed to <strong>55 km/h</strong> on all car-to-car crash tests, which represents a <strong>20% increase</strong> in impact energy. Yaris was the <strong>first Toyota car</strong> developed according to these new standards.</p>

<p>The new Yaris is also the first Toyota equipped with the second-generation <strong>Whiplash Injury</strong> <strong>Lessening</strong> (WIL) concept seats. The performance of these seats has been improved through simulations conducted with Toyota&rsquo;s virtual crash test dummy - THUMS (Total Human Model for Safety) - a highly-detailed reproduction of the human body, including bone structure, skin, joints and ligaments.</p>

<p>Adopting a new seat-back structure and headrest design is an important development over the first generation Yaris (already recognised by Germany&rsquo;s auto club ADAC as the best whiplash protection system in the segment). In the event of a rear impact, the head movement can be restrained at a much earlier stage by approaching the headrest from the passenger&rsquo;s head.</p>

<p>In addition, Yaris is equipped with other important safety features such as <strong>a collapsible steering column</strong> and <strong>retractable brake pedal</strong>, systems that keep these components away from the driver in case of a frontal impact. Furthermore, the driver can deactivate the passenger&rsquo;s front airbag with a <strong>cut-off switch</strong>.</p>

<p>An <strong>ISOFIX</strong> system is also standard for the two outer rear seats.</p>

<p>The result is an increase in the body&rsquo;s torsional stiffness by as much as 50%. This means driving pleasure benefits from a more sure-footed handling, and there is an overall reduction in noise and vibration.</p>

<p>The new Yaris&rsquo; front McPherson strut suspension is a completely new design, featuring an optimised geometry to provide the best possible balance between stability and ride comfort.</p>

<p>All components were designed using the latest technology in Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) analysis. This allowed Toyota engineers to further optimise the balance between component stiffness and lower weight.</p>

<p>Higher roll stiffness and better ride comfort have been achieved by connecting the stabiliser bar directly to the strut by a ball-joint. Shock absorbers have a larger diameter and include a new type of valve, which provides better damping. The direction of the spring reaction force has been optimised so as to create a more positive steering feel.</p>

<p>On the rear suspension, Toyota engineers have introduced a brand new inverted-V design for the torsion beam. This includes a stabiliser function that eliminates the need for a dedicated stabiliser bar, which in turn further reduces weight and increases stiffness.</p>

<p>Toyota engineers have also improved on stability by modifying the structure of the body mount bush and axle-bearing fixation. This ensures better stability, even during body roll.</p>

<p>Trunk intrusion has been further minimised by placing the absorbers further outwards.</p>

<p>The new Toyota Yaris uses the company&rsquo;s latest-generation Electric Motor Power Steering (EMPS) &ndash; a system identical to the Avensis&rsquo;.</p>

<p><em>Firstly, EMPS ensures a smoother and more linear steering feel on initial input. Secondly, steering power-assist has been optimised by improved ECU mapping. The structure and rigidity of the gear mount have also been strengthened. This effectively provides a more linear steering feel at all speeds.</em></p>

<p>The new Yaris has been equipped with a tilt and telescopic steering column adjustment function. This ensures that drivers of all shapes and sizes can find a driving position best suited to them. The overall result is an improvement in steering response and stability over the previous model.</p>

<p>In spite of an increase in exterior length, together with a reduced front overhang, the new Yaris has an even shorter turning radius, being also the segment&rsquo;s best &ndash; 4.4 metres (4.7 m for vehicles equipped with 185/60 R 15 tyres).</p>

<p>The new Yaris&rsquo; NV (Noise and Vibration) package adopts a new concept of absorption over insulation, a principle already successfully applied in the Avensis and Corolla Verso.</p>

<p>The new material absorbs and dissipates noise rather than insulating the car from the noise source by using heavier layers. It not only delivers substantially better sound damping performance, but it is also lighter, weighing only around half as much as traditional sound damping material. In addition, this material is more than 80% recyclable and its installation doesn&rsquo;t require solvents or adhesives.</p>

<p>The new car also benefits from double-sealing around the side doors. A special instrument panel undercover has also been adopted.</p>

<p>A revolutionary engine mount system is used on all engines to drastically lower the amount of noise and vibration. Instead of the conventional 3-mount layout, Yaris features an engine mount on each side, which draws an imaginary line intercepting the engine&rsquo;s centre of gravity. Furthermore, the third engine mount (placed at the bottom of the engine compartment) is replaced by a <strong>torque rod</strong> that efficiently suppresses the engine&rsquo;s rotational movement.</p>

<h2><strong>Aerodynamics</strong></h2>

<p>Using the latest <strong>computational fluid dynamics</strong> (CFD) technology, engineers at the company were able to generate virtual-reality airflow simulation scenarios even before the shape of the car was actually defined.</p>

<p>In addition, Yaris spent a total of 1,000 hours being wind-tunnel tested at speeds of up to 180 km/h, which undoubtedly enabled designers to come up with viable solutions in terms of improving the aerodynamics of the new Yaris.</p>

<p>Specific actions to improve airflow under the car include the adoption of a front spoiler, engine undercover, front and rear tyre spats, a flat mid-section underfloor, floor spats and a flattened fuel tank.</p>

<p>Furthermore, in order to avoid any turbulence, a rear floor cover has been placed between the spare tyre compartment and rear bumper. This addition has not been seen before in any other Toyota car.</p>

<p>Thanks to all these measures, the new Yaris boasts a drag coefficient of 0.30, which puts it at among the best in its segment.</p>

<p>The coefficient of lift was substantially improved, particularly at the front. Being already negative in the current Yaris, it registered a full 100% improvement in the new model. This achievement improves safety at high speeds, as well as providing a sense of high-speed stability usually only experienced in larger cars.</p>

<p>The 87 DIN hp/64 kW 1.3-litre VVT-i engine propels 121 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm, giving the new Yaris a sporty yet smooth feel.</p>

<p>A by-wire throttle system has been adopted, providing a more precise throttle valve control which, as consequence, improves the engine&rsquo;s refinement. It can perform a non-linear throttle valve control, adopting the appropriate opening angle for a specific accelerator pedal position and engine speed.</p>

<p>In order to improve levels of noise and vibration even further, this engine now features one hydraulic engine mount, together with an entirely new mounting layout.</p>

<p>Toyota sees the 1.3-litre VVT-i as the most important engine of the Yaris range, predicting that 36% of the sales will be generated by this unit.</p>

<h2>&nbsp;</h2>

<h2><strong>1.4-litre D-4D diesel engine</strong></h2>

<p>Back in 2001, Toyota became the first manufacturer to produce a diesel engine entirely of aluminium, in the shape of the 1.4-litre D-4D &ndash; currently installed in the Yaris. Toyota engineers have evolved this engine for the new model.</p>

<p><em>The new diesel engine adopts common-rail injection pressure of 1,600 bar and injectors of 6 holes with a diameter of 0.115 mm each, in order to produce better fuel atomisation and more homogeneous combustion. Furthermore, the electrically activated EGR valve ensures a quicker response and more precise EGR control by the engine ECU. A Variable Nozzle Turbocharger ensures higher low-end torque. The result is an engine that promises a power output of 90 DIN hp/66 kW at 3,600 rpm, and 190 Nm between a very wide rev-range &ndash; 1,800-3,000 rpm.</em></p>

<p><em>One of the objectives for this engine&rsquo;s development was low weight. To start with, several components, including the cylinder-head cover, intake manifold, throttle body, air-cleaner cover and housing, engine cover, fuel-delivery pipe, water inlet and oil strainer have been made of plastic. Additionally, the air intake system and engine cover are integrated into a single module &ndash; a new departure for Toyota. As a result, Toyota engineers have managed to reduce the weight of the intake system by as much as 20% in comparison with the current Yaris 1.0-litre petrol engine.</em></p>

<p>Besides featuring an aluminium block, the cylinder bores adopt an extra-slim design at only 7 mm spacing, the lowest ever in a Toyota engine. This, and the 3-cylinder configuration, allows for an 11% reduction in engine length.</p>

<p><em>All these measures result in the new 1.0-litre being 20% lighter than the current 1.0-litre engine. Weighing only 67 kg, it is actually the lightest internal combustion car engine on the market.</em></p>

<p>Furthermore, combined fuel consumption in the new Yaris 1.0-litre petrol engine is one of the lowest in its segment for petrol engines, reduced by 3.6% from current levels.</p>

<p>This unit is not only the most powerful 1.0-litre around (69 DIN hp/51 kW at 6,000 rpm), but also segment-leading in specific torque, providing 93 Nm at only 3,600 rpm. In addition, the engine delivers a low-speed torque of 85 Nm at 2,000 rpm, compared to 78 for the current Yaris 1.0-litre engine.</p>

<h2><strong>Improved manual transmissions</strong></h2>

<p>MultiMode operates in 3 modes: &lsquo;M&rsquo;, which allows sequential gearshift; &lsquo;E&rsquo; for automatic gear change; and &lsquo;Es&rsquo; for quicker automatic gear change.</p>

<p>The MultiMode transmissions on the new Yaris now have sportier tuning than ever before, providing quick gear change. The clutch-activation time has been reduced for this purpose, which simultaneously reduces shift-shock because of a reduced driveline-interruption time.</p>

<p><em>In order to reach these targets, the major challenge to overcome was the vehicle&rsquo;s reduced front overhang &ndash; which at 725 mm is even smaller than that of the current generation and its direct competitors. This limitation makes it more difficult to reduce the level of damage to the vehicle&rsquo;s front module in the case of a head-on impact.</em></p>

<p>To cope with this, for the first time ever, Toyota engineers have used a bolt-on bumper reinforcement produced in hot-stamped, ultra high-tensile steel, which also contains an energy-absorption structure. Another new addition is a radiator slide structure &ndash; built to protect the radiator and air conditioner condenser in case of a low-speed impact, whilst simultaneously holding the bonnet lock in place.</p>

<p><em>The adoption of these unique measures has allowed for a 132 mm reduction in the Yaris front overhang, thus enabling a cut in repair costs. During the internal crash tests (15 km/h impact against an offset barrier) components like the radiator and bonnet had not been affected.</em></p>

<p>Comparing the 100,000 km servicing cumulative time, the Yaris 1.0 VVT-i evolves from 5.7 hours to 4.1 hours in the new model, a reduction of 28%.</p>

<p>For the Yaris 1.4 D-4D, cumulative servicing time was cut down from 6.8 hours to 4.2 hours (or 3.6, with Oil Maintenance Management System, a feature that monitors the condition of the engine&rsquo;s oil) &ndash; a reduction of 38%.</p>

<h2><strong>Aiming for a high resale value</strong></h2>

<p>In the same year in Germany, the current Yaris 1.0-litre petrol Luna 5-door model, again 36 months old and having driven 90,000 km, came first on the charts for its resale value. Spain also saw the same car, with the same life-history, reach second place at the start of 2005.</p>

<h2><strong>Anti-theft protection</strong></h2>

<p>Thanks to <strong>Smart Entry&rsquo;s</strong> electrically-activated mechanism, the trunk lock presents no linkage. Right-hand drive models also receive steel protection in the trunk area. In addition, vehicles equipped with Smart Entry & Start System receive a reinforced steering lock.</p>

<p>Furthermore, the location of the immobiliser&rsquo;s ECU has been changed on the new Yaris, making it extremely difficult to access.</p>

<p>As a consequence, the new Yaris has achieved an &lsquo;Exceeding&rsquo; rating in the UK&rsquo;s New Vehicle Security Assessment, which contributes to a reduction in the insurance premium.
