— Low insurance group ratings through easy-repair design

— 15,000 km service interval for low servicing and maintenance costs

— Three year / 100,000 km warranty

</pp:summary>

Cost of ownership is one of the fundamental considerations for customers in the highly competitive European C segment, and has been a key consideration in the development of the Auris 2010.

Tax efficient Toyota Optimal Drive

The application of Toyota Optimal Drive across the model range ensures that the Auris not only demonstrates the optimum balance between performance and emissions, but also that its fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are amongst the lowest in the segment.

The Auris 1.4 D-4D 90 boasts CO2 emissions of just 118 g/km, and the 1.33 Dual VVT-i with Stop & Start technology only 136 g/km. These significant reductions in CO2 emissions will offer owners a tax advantage in many European markets, including Austria, Norway, Portugal, Ireland, Spain and the Netherlands.

Low insurance

Typical Auris insurance ratings in the UK will be Group 10 (1.33l) or Group 13 (1.6l) for petrol models and Group 11 (1.4D) or Group 18 (2.0D) for D-4D versions. In Germany, the same models will qualify for Group 19 (1.33l) or Group 20 (1.6l) and Group 13 (1.4D) or Group 19 (2.0D) respectively. These low ratings have been achieved, in part, by the design development of numerous, easy-to-repair, insurance-friendly components such as bolt-on front end structures and easily replaced headlamp clusters.

Lower servicing costs

Toyota's 15,000 km service interval schedule is designed to offer customers best-in-class servicing, maintenance and repair costs. Component replacement cycles have been extended without compromising reliability, durability or safety, or the use of expensive synthetic oil. The carefully considered layout of the engine bay and component access has helped to minimise labour time and, therefore, costs.

All engines use a maintenance-free timing chain and 45 % less expensive oil filter elements. Thin, long reach spark plugs not only improve cylinder head cooling but are 23 % less expensive.

The Auris also benefits from Toyota's already excellent record of low repair costs. Many components have been developed specifically to reduce impact repair costs. These include headlamp mounting brackets which are designed to break on impact before the lamp itself is damaged and the large front bumper, which reduces damage to the bonnet during collisions.

Oil Maintenance Monitoring System (OMMS)

All three D-4D engines feature an Oil Maintenance Monitoring System (OMMS) which continuously monitors engine use and determines the optimum oil change interval.

In addition, the adoption of automatic valve adjusters on the

1.33 litre Dual-VVT-i engine removes the need to periodically adjust valve clearances throughout the engine's lifespan.

Clutches are self-adjusting, and an automatic tensioner avoids the need for periodic checking of the auxiliary belt tension. Auxiliary belt life is 105,000 km and the engine coolant will last 160,000 km.

Three Year / 100,000 km warranty

The 2010 Auris carries Toyota's three year/100,000 km warranty*, but many components are designed to last more than double that time. The starter motor, for instance, has a lifespan of at least eight years. All engines use a maximum number of maintenance-free components, and even the tyres have been chosen to offer the best balance of performance and durability.

</pp:summary>

The Toyota Auris hybrid is the 'Car of the future'. In this newly created category of the ADAC annual 'Yellow Angel' ('Gelben Engel') awards, Auris hybrid is praised for its excellent fuel economy and record-low emissions in its category.

According to the jury, the Toyota Auris is today's most advanced hybrid vehicle with regards to everyday practicality, cost, environmental impact and safety. This evaluation is based on a new adjudication method developed by ADAC, the largest German automobile club, to guarantee an objective evaluation of the performance for all vehicles competing for the title.

Consideration was given to the following criteria: environment (pollution range, CO2 emissions), cost (base price, fuel costs), practicality (number of seats, luggage space, maximum range, time needed to fuel or recharge) and safety (airbags, ESP). Only vehicles with petrol, diesel or alternative fuels, equipped with a start-stop system and meeting the Euro 5 emissions standard for petrol or Euro 6 for diesel, were allowed to the enter the competition.

The Toyota Auris, the first full hybrid vehicle in the compact C-segment, fully meets these requirements.

Thanks to its Hybrid Synergy Drive, the Auris hybrid achieves record-low CO2 emissions of 89 g/km, with emissions of particulate matters and NOx being significantly below the level of diesel vehicles. In addition, the average fuel consumption of 3.8 litres/100 km is unparalleled in its class. Unlike electric vehicles powered by an electric motor only, the Auris full hybrid provides unrestricted long-distance driving in hybrid mode.

Auris hybrid is also a very accessible product, with prices in line with conventionally powered vehicles with comparable size and features. Not to mention the exceptionally relaxed driving experience and the possibility of an all-electric, emissions-free and virtually silent drive.

The Auris hybrid marks Toyota's first step in the extension of Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive to the entire Toyota line-up, which the company aims to achieve in Europe by the early 2020s. Toyota aims to introduce no less than 10 new hybrid models worldwide in the next few years.

toyota news,2010 auris

Auris HSD receives a maximum 5 star rating in ADAC's EcoTest

</pp:summary>

Toyota has been developing and refining its own, industry-leading technology, Hybrid Synergy Drive®, for more than 30 years. Global sales of the company's full hybrid cars are on target to reach 3 million units by the end of the year. In Europe, over 300,000 units have already been sold.

With the launch of Auris HSD in July, Toyota has taken the fundamental step of making its full hybrid technology accessible to a broader customer base. The company intends to deploy Hybrid Synergy Drive® technology across its entire European model range in the early 2020's.

The Auris HSD introduces the benefits of full hybrid drive to the C-segment hatchback for the first time, rewarding customers with fuel consumption of only 3.8 l / 100 km, CO2 emissions of just 89 g / km and full-electric driving for up to 25 % of typical city trips1.

European sales of Auris HSD have already exceeded the entire year's production of 14,000 units, an indication of how rapidly Toyota's full hybrid technology is winning market acceptance. 2011 sales are expected to more than double, targeting 31,000 units.

This year, Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive® powertrain was again awarded the title 'Green Engine of the Year'. In addition, the Auris HSD was voted 'WhatGreenCar of the Year 2010' by a selected group of UK's leading green transport and environmental experts. Toyota's full hybrid stood out amongst the tested cars for its 'advanced drive, state of the art driver control options, affordability and conventional looks'.

The Auris HSD was also successful in this year's Austrian Autoreview awards, ranking second in the 'Alternative Powertrain' category, yet first as a mainstream model.

The Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club e.V. (ADAC) driving safety centre recently hosted the Auris Hybrid Eco Challenge. 25 amateur and professional teams, selected from 4,000 applicants, competed to achieve the lowest possible average fuel consumption. The winning team returned 3.86 l / 100 km in the combined cycle, 4.4 l / 100km on the open road, and just 2.66 l / 100km under urban driving conditions.

In addition, the Auris HSD received a maximum, 5 star rating in ADAC's EcoTest. With a total of 94 points, the Toyota full hybrid gained the highest score ever achieved in this reputable environmental test. In the EcoTest's two measured categories, fuel efficiency and environmental pollution, the Auris HSD gained an outstanding score of 44 for its fuel efficiency, and the highest possible mark -50 out of 50- in the environmental pollution category.

Since ADAC launched its EcoTest in 2002, more than 100 models have been tested. To date, 5 stars —equivalent to more than 90 points- have been awarded to just seven models.

With this record-breaking result, the Auris HSD becomes the most environmentallyfriendly car ever tested at ADAC.

— Improved interior quality and ergonomics with hybrid-specific finishes, instrumentation, switchgear and upholsteryThe Auris HSD builds on the dynamic exterior design changes and extensive interior improvements in quality, materials, ergonomics, driving comfort and visual appeal introduced with the recent launch of the Auris 2010 model range.

</pp:summary>

Externally, the new Toyota full hybrid incorporates several unique styling details to improve the car's aerodynamic performance and the fuel efficiency of its Hybrid Synergy Drive® powertrain. The interior incorporates hybrid-specific instruments, switchgear and upholstery.

Exterior Design: Improved Aerodynamic Efficiency

Toyota's new, full hybrid hatchback shares the long, 2,600 mm wheelbase and 4,245 mm overall length of the Auris 2010 model range, while a 5 mm lowering of vehicle ride height further improves its aerodynamic efficiency.

The Auris HSD features the new, horizontal bar-type grille and more aggressive headlamp clusters of the 2010 model range. However, the full hybrid's upper grille opening has been optimised to help the air flow smoothly over the upper half of the body and incorporates a hybrid blue Toyota symbol.

The front bumper and front spoiler design have also been revised and the size of the lower grille has been enlarged to reduce airflow resistance as well as improving engine cooling efficiency.

Redesigned bumper corners house a revised foglamp configuration incorporating HSD-unique LED daytime running lights. The flat, vertical surface of the bumper corner not only reinforces the Auris HSD's broad stance and driving stability, but also corrects airflow as it passes over the front wheels to minimise wheel arch turbulence.

In profile, the Auris HSD may be identified by front wing hybrid badging and a choice of purpose-made, 15" or 17" alloy wheels with integrated, aerodynamic caps and low rolling resistance tyres. These Prius-style aero wheels feature enlarged air gaps for improved cooling air flow to the Electronically Controlled Braking System. In addition, a large, roof mounted rear spoiler further improves the Auris HSD's aerodynamic efficiency.

To the rear, the Auris HSD shares the stronger, more confident design of the 2010 model range. This features a 'catamaran' bumper profile which accentuates the fill hybrid's muscular proportions and wide track. The presence of Hybrid Synergy Drive® is indicated by hybrid-specific badging and a hybrid blue Toyota symbol.

Acting in combination to smooth and control the flow of air over the car, these HSD-specific design modifications have reduced the Toyota hybrid's coefficient of drag from Cd 0.293 to 0.283, effecting reductions in both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

The Auris HSD is available in a choice of six exterior colours, including a new, hybrid-specific, pearl white finish.

Interior Design: Hybrid-Specific Instruments, Switchgear and Upholstery

The Auris HSD's interior benefits from all the improvements in quality, ergonomics and visual appeal of the 2010 model range. Soft touch materials cover the top of the driver's instrument cluster and the upper glove box and the centre console storage box functions as an armrest. A comfortable steering wheel incorporates audio and Bluetooth phone control switches.

The unique, bridged centre console which brings the gear lever, handbrake and instrumentation within the closest possible reach of the driver has a bright metallic finish matched by the door handles. Control panel colour and finish changes have enhanced switch layout visibility. Revised throughout the Auris 2010 model range, the handbrake design features a new lever release button, a tactile, ergonomic grip and lower seating in the release position.

In addition, in conjunction with the presence of Hybrid Synergy Drive®, the Auris HSD interior also features several significant modifications. The driver's instrument binnacle has been revised, with the tachometer replaced by an Eco Drive Assist Monitor. The centre-dial information panel includes additional, Hybrid Synergy Drive® - specific information such as Energy Flow and Eco Drive Result monitors.

A hybrid blue Smart Start switch has been added to the side of the instrument cluster. The centre console incorporates a Parking Control switch, EV, Eco and Power drive mode switches and a hybrid blue Shift-by-Wire transmission lever with a high-quality silver paint finish.

Auris HSD instrument and switchgear illumination has been amended to white numbers on a hybrid blue background for the Optitron meter panel, greenish white colour — night illumination — is used on Smart start switch, Audio unit, P control switch, drive mode switch and heater control panel.

The Auris HSD interior is finished in Dark Grey. A choice of hybrid-specific upholstery features a standard specification, blue-flecked seat panel fabric, while high grade models are trimmed in Alcantara panels with leather surrounds.

toyota news,2010 auris

— Lower servicing costs through outstanding Hybrid Synergy Drive® component longevity

— Proven Toyota quality with competitive insurance costs and high residual valuesIts segment-first, full hybrid drive technology offering customers with an unparalleled combination of low maintenance, insurance and running costs with high reliability and residual values, the new Auris HSD represents outstanding value for money.

</pp:summary>

Best-in-class CO2 emissions of just 89 g/km and combined cycle fuel economy of only 3.8 l/100 km offer customers significant, pan-European tax incentives, inner city congestion charge exemption and exceptionally low running costs.

The Auris HSD's full hybrid drive system has been specifically designed for low maintenance and exceptional durability. Combining low parts pricing with short service times and hence, reduced labour costs, Auris HSD maintenance costs over 100,000 km are remarkably reasonable.

The outstanding reliability of Hybrid Synergy Drive® has already been proven through its installation in the Prius, which shows the lowest warranty cost per unit amongst all Toyota models. The new Auris HSD benefits from a three year/100,000 km warranty, extended to five years/100,000 km on hybrid system components.

The Auris HSD is expected to achieve highly competitive insurance ratings, while residual values are expected to be in line with vehicles at the top of the C-segment. In the case of the UK market, a residual value target of 38-39% (depending on model grade) after 36 months/60,000 miles is anticipated.

Low CO2 taxation and fuel costs

The new Auris HSD fulfils Euro 5 emissions standards and is expected to meet those of Euro VI. Producing best-in-class CO2 emissions of just 89 g/km — a figure unmatched by any other C-segment car - the Toyota full hybrid offers customers significant tax incentives in several European countries for instance, 2,000 Euros in France and 6,400 Euros in The Netherlands.

Auris HSD customers also benefit from class-leading fuel efficiency. Whilst operating in NORMAL driving mode, the new Toyota full hybrid returns only 3.8 l/100 km in the European homologation combined cycle. With the fuel consumption levels of a small city car, the Auris HSD has a driving range of about 1,180 km on a single tank of fuel.

This remarkable fuel efficiency is further enhanced by the Auris HSD's ability to operate in a unique, switchable, EV mode. Unavailable to rival, mild hybrid vehicles, EV mode allows the Toyota full hybrid to run on electric motor power alone for about 2 kilometres at speeds of up to about 50 km/h, depending on battery charge and driving conditions, whilst generating zero CO2, NOX and PM emissions.

Auris HSD running costs are likely to be subject to further reductions with the implementation of future congestion charging plans in major European cities. In London, for instance, the Auris HSD's hybrid vehicle status grants it exemption from the statutory charge when entering the Congestion Zone, representing a considerable annual cost saving for the urban dweller and customers who regularly travel into the city centre.

Lower servicing costs with outstanding component longevity

The Auris HSD's 15,000 km service interval maximises component lifetime efficiency, while the latest generation Hybrid Synergy Drive® system has been specifically designed for low maintenance and outstanding durability.

The full hybrid powertrain has no need of a conventional starter motor or alternator. The engine is equipped with a maintenance-free timing chain - a serving cost saving of some 300 Euros, an element oil filter and miniaturised spark plugs — realising savings of 45% and 23% respectively. It also has no drive belts whatsoever, combining excellent reliability with a further saving of some 80 Euros.

Due to the efficiency of the Auris HSD's Electronically Controlled Braking System, the brake pads have a life expectancy of over 100,000 km and may never need to be replaced during the vehicle's lifespan. Standard sized 15" and 17" tyres not only cost less than purpose-made alternatives, but also their high, 2.4 and 2.3 bar pressure significantly reduces wear, with typical durability exceeding 50,000 km.

With a proven reliability record garnered over some 60 billion kilometres of driving worldwide, the high quality Hybrid Synergy Drive® battery is designed to last the entire life of the car. Rigorously assessed for performance and durability, it is covered by a five year, 100,000 km warranty. Exhaust system life expectancy is over five years due to a high stainless steel content, and 'lifetime' LED headlamp bulbs have a 20 year lifespan.

Combining exceptional component longevity with low parts pricing and the reduced labour costs resultant from short service times, Auris HSD maintenance costs over 100,000 km are highly competitive.

The new Auris HSD benefits from a three year/100,000 km warranty, extended to five years/100,000 km on hybrid system components. Prius warranty history has already confirmed the outstanding reliability of Hybrid Synergy Drive®, showing the lowest warranty cost per unit amongst all Toyota models. Over three years, Prius warranty cost per unit is only 18% of that of the Corolla/Avensis, of which just 1.8% relates to hybrid componentry — figures the Auris HSD is fully expected to equal.

Proven Toyota quality with competitive insurance costs and high residual values

With proven Toyota quality and Hybrid Synergy Drive® reliability already exemplified through the Prius' top 'Lowest Problems' ranking in JD Power's 2007 and 2008 German, French and UK surveys, the Auris HSD will bring an unprecedented level of customer satisfaction to the C-segment.

The Auris HSD bodyshell has been designed to resist corrosion throughout the life of the vehicle. The use of galvanized steel sheets on most of the body components enhances anti-corrosion characteristics. And an underbody undercoating further prevents corrosion damage as a result of paint chipping.

The new Auris HSD also benefits from Toyota's already excellent record of low repair costs. Many components have been developed specifically to reduce impact repair costs and the body structure itself has also been designed to reduce repair costs when a minor collision occurs.

The crash box integral to the bumper reinforcement absorbs collision energy, helping to reduce body structure damage. The bumper reinforcement, front side member, radiator support, rear bumper crash box and rear side member all adopt bolt-fastening structures for reduced repair costs. And the radiator support features a retracting mechanism to minimise damage to the cooling unit in the event of a minor collision.

The Auris HSD is expected to achieve highly competitive C-segment insurance ratings, and residual values are expected to be in line with vehicles at the top of the C-segment. In the case of the UK market, a residual value target of 38-39% (depending on model grade) after 36 months/60,000 miles is anticipated.

toyota news,2010 auris

It has built a solid reputation for roominess, comfort, practicality and reliability combined with a secure, economical driving experience.

On sale throughout Europe from early spring, the Auris 2010 will continue to appeal to those who prize the peace of mind offered by these core, family hatchback values. However, the revised model will also attract new customers who appreciate the marked improvements it offers in style and interior quality, its wider choice of Toyota Optimal Drive-efficient powertrains and its more refined driving experience.

From mid 2010, Auris customers will further benefit from the availability of full hybrid technology in a mainstream hatchback, the Auris HSD. The introduction of Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive® to the range will make the Auris unique within the C segment, it being the first model to offer a choice of petrol, diesel or full hybrid powertrains.

With the performance- and economy-enhancing benefits of Toyota Optimal Drive technology applied to the full engine range, the Toyota Auris 2010 features a seven powertrain line-up. This is the widest range of powertrains available in the C segment, comprehensively catering for every customer requirement.

Toyota Optimal Drive has lowered CO2 emissions throughout the Auris 2010 engine range, with significant cost of ownership benefits. For instance, when equipped with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), the 1.4 D-4D 90 generates only 118 g/km.

The Auris 2010 features numerous exterior design changes which both establish a stronger Toyota family brand image and reinforce the popular hatchback's energetic and confident personality. On board, customer feedback has influenced extensive interior improvements in quality, materials, ergonomics, comfort, storage and visual appeal.

Through close collaboration between the Chief Engineer and Toyota's European and Japanese Research and Development teams, the Auris 2010's ride and handling has been fine-tuned for the customers and roads of the European market. It combines stable high speed driving performance with secure handling and superior ride comfort.

Tailored to offer a comprehensive standard equipment specification on even Entry level models, the revised Auris 2010 grade strategy now includes a dynamic, S-Pack upgrade specifically designed to appeal to a new, more youthful customer base.

In its first 12 months of sales, the Auris increased Toyota's share of the C segment, which grew from its predecessor's 3.2 % in 2006, to 3.5 % in 2008. Toyota sold 156,000 Auris models throughout Europe in 2007, and increased sales to 163,500 units in 2008.

Within a significantly diminished 2009 C segment, Toyota plans to sell 101,000 Auris models in 2010 and -in the first full year of sales with all powertrain variants available- 130,000 units in 2011.

The C segment's share of the European market fell from around 22 % to 17 % in 2009. As a result, total European C segment sales, which peaked at 4.5 million units, are now expected to stabilise at around 3 million units.

Despite this marked reduction in size, the C segment remains a core element of the volume market. 3 million sales still represents almost 20 % of the entire European new car market, and increasingly strong competition will see several new models launched in both 2010 and 2011.

toyota news,2010 auris

</pp:summary>

After almost 20 years of manufacturing experience, the Auris HSD represents a major milestone for TMUK, with Burnaston now becoming the first Toyota plant in Europe to produce a hybrid vehicle.

An Auris HSD is built from 1,753 separate components, of which 395 — some 25% - are unique to the hybrid model derivative. This adds significant production complexity, with 149 build processes — 69% of the total - affected. Seven processes are entirely new to the assembly line, such as the installation of the sub-battery in the luggage compartment, the main battery behind the rear seats, the high voltage cable and the modified, 1.8 VVT-i petrol engine.

Quality remains an absolute priority at TMUK and all production techniques were re-evaluated to maintain the highest standards in build quality, durability and reliability.

All assembly line members have received National Vocational Qualification training in the handling of High Voltage components. A new Toyota Vehicle Electric Checking System has been adopted for the rigorous checking of all electrical hybrid components. And a new vision system has been incorporated within the welding process to ensure 100% checking of the high voltage cable and battery fixing weld studs.

The offline inspection area has been completely redesigned to support hybrid assembly requirements, with a specific focus on high voltage componentry and vehicle silent running. A new test track facility allows for comprehensive vehicle road testing, including checking of the Auris HSD's unique, regenerative braking system.

Based on the five Rs —Refine, Reduce, Re-use, Recycle and Retrieve energy- TMUK's commitment to sustainable manufacturing already has a long history, the Burnaston plant achieving its goal of sending zero waste to landfill back in 2003.

— Refined steering response for improved agility and driver feedback

Through close collaboration between Toyota's European and Japanese Research and Development teams, the implementation of regional customer feedback and extensive European testing the Auris' suspension system has been fine-tuned specifically for the customers and roads of the European market. It combines stable high speed driving performance with secure handling and superior ride comfort.

</pp:summary>

The Auris' speed-sensitive Electric Power Steering (EPS) has also been revised and refined to provide better feedback and improved vehicle agility.

Suspension

The Auris 2010 suspension has been fine-tuned to improve overall ride comfort without compromising the vehicle's agility and secure handling.

The front suspension features a variation of the highly effective MacPherson strut, known as an L-arm MacPherson strut. This compact and highly rigid design brings the strut in-board from the wheel hub, which allows for a wider track with superior stability, and excellent noise and vibration suppression. The Auris 2010's front damper settings have been adjusted to achieve a smoother ride quality.

Two different, highly efficient rear suspension systems are available, matched to the performance characteristics of specific Auris models. Versions powered by the 2.2 litre D-4D 180 are equipped with a double wishbone design, best able to handle the high specific forces and torque generated inside the suspension system by this powerful unit. All other models in the Auris 2010 range benefit from a highly effective and super-compact torsion beam rear suspension.

Both multi-link and torsion beam suspension systems feature a separate spring and damper layout, creating a compact design which does not intrude into the vehicle's spacious, flat-floored loadspace. As with the front suspension, the Auris 2010's rear dampers have been re-tuned for optimum ride quality.

Steering

With a quick ratio of 14.44:1 and just 2.9 turns lock-to-lock, the Auris 2010's speed-sensitive Electric Power Steering (EPS) has also been revised and refined to provide better feedback and improved vehicle agility.

The EPS' compact, high output motor and torque sensor are built into the steering column, optimising steering assistance for more precise control of the vehicle. EPS improves fuel economy by consuming power only when steering force assistance is needed.

It is highly durable and requires no hydraulic fluid.

Brakes and tyres

Incorporating Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC) the Auris is equipped with the latest Bosch ABS 8.1 and ESP 8 braking and stability systems.

Petrol engine, 1.4 and 2.0 D-4D versions are fitted with

273 x 26 mm ventilated front discs, whilst 2.2 D-CAT versions are fitted with 295 x 26 mm ventilated discs. All versions feature 270 x 10 mm solid rear discs.

All petrol and 1.4 D-4D 90 Auris models are equipped with 15" steel wheels fitted with 195/65R 15 tyres. 2.0 and 2.2 D-4D versions are equipped with 16" alloy wheels fitted with 205/55R 16 tyres. And 17" alloys with 225/45R 17 tyres are fitted, as standard, on S Pack and Premium Active grade models.

toyota news,2010 auris

— Improved interior material quality, ergonomics, visual appeal and instrument clarity

— Introducing the S-Pack -a dynamic version aimed at younger customers

Maintaining its design focus on maximum interior space, flexibility and practicality, the Auris 2010 features numerous exterior design changes which establish a stronger Toyota family brand image and reinforce the Toyota's comfortable, secure driving experience.

</pp:summary>

On board, careful regard to customer feedback has inspired new, higher quality, soft touch materials, enhanced ergonomics, increased visual appeal, a new centre console, a new, more comfortable steering wheel with additional switchgear, improved instrument clarity and a revised handbrake design.

Exterior design

The Auris 2010 has increased in overall length by 25 mm to 4245 mm. While the long 2600 mm wheelbase remains unchanged, redesigned bumpers have increased the front and rear overhangs by 15 mm to 905 mm and by 10 mm to 740 mm respectively.

Featuring a new bonnet, radiator grille, headlamps, bumper and spoiler, the entire front of the 2010 Auris has been redesigned to create a more youthful, engaging image while reinforcing the model's broad, muscular proportions.

The centre section of the bonnet has been changed from the concave profile of the current model to a wider, convex curve. Strengthened crease lines flowing back from the prominent Toyota logo reinforce the brand image. And a new, body coloured, horizontal bar-type radiator grille -reminiscent of Verso and Avensis- emphasises the car's wide track and stable stance.

Revised, more aggressively styled headlamp clusters incorporate prominent low beam projector lamps. The lower bumper and front spoiler have been re-styled to incorporate a wider grille and integral fog lamps positioned at the bumper extremities to further reinforce the Auris 2010's stable, ground-hugging stance.

In profile, the Auris 2010 benefits from a range of new 16" and 17" aluminium alloy wheels, and turn signals have been integrated into the aerodynamic door mirrors.

The rear design has been strengthened to provide a stronger, more confident road presence. The bumper corners have been extended outwards and create a new 'catamaran' bumper profile which reinforces the Auris 2010's wide, secure stance. An extended, chrome-trimmed license plate garnish adds further horizontal emphasis whilst harmonising the overall design. And new tail lamp clusters combine powerful, horizontal layers with a sporting two ring lamp design.

The Auris 2010 is available in a range of nine body colours of which four -Ultra Silver, Island Blue, Dark Purple and Barcelona Red- are new to the model.

Interior design

Higher quality, soft touch materials now cover the top of the driver's instrument binnacle and the upper glove box. The height of the centre console storage box has been raised by about 50 mm, and it now functions as an armrest.

A new, leather-clad steering wheel features a flat-bottomed section for enhanced comfort and convenience. It incorporates audio and Bluetooth phone control switches, as well as an on-board computer display button previously located behind the steering wheel. The switches themselves have been redesigned and their location optimised for improved functionality and better grip.

The illumination of the Optitron meter dials in the driver's instrument binnacle has been changed to white for improved clarity and visibility. Auris 2010 models equipped with the 2.2 D-4D 180 Toyota D-CAT engine feature sporting, red meter dials with complimentary orange upholstery stitching.

The unique, bridged centre console which brings the gear lever, handbrake and instrumentation within the closest possible reach of the driver is trimmed in a new, bright metallic finish matched by the door handles.

The colour tone of the audio unit and heater control panel has been darkened to metallic black, enhancing switch layout visibility. The air-conditioning control panel LCD lenses have been revised for greater clarity. In addition, the shift bezel for MultiMode transmission versions is now finished in a high-gloss black acrylic.

In response to customer feedback, the handbrake design has been revised with a new lever release button, a tactile, ergonomic grip and lower seating in the release position.

The seat upholstery has been upgraded across the range, with five new finishes available for the main inserts two woven, two Tatami knitted and one Alcantara.

Dynamic S-Pack version

A new, sporting, S-Pack version adds a more youthful, dynamic appeal to the heart of the Auris 2010 model range. Unique exterior design features include range-topping, 17" alloy wheels, a dynamic spoiler with integral, high-mounted stop light and darkened halogen headlamp clusters.

On board, the S-Pack upgrade interior features sporting orange analogue meters, matching orange upholstery stitching, a rear seat centre armrest with cupholder, and rear privacy glass.

toyota news,2010 auris

Auris 2010: Introduction

<pp:caseid>322651</pp:caseid>

The Toyota Auris was launched in 2007 to replace the long-established Corolla at the heart of the highly competitive European C segment.

3 million sales still represents almost 20 % of the entire European new car market, and increasingly strong competition will see several new models launched in both 2010 and 2011.

corporate,2010 auris

'The Auris 2010 gives all customers access to Toyota's advanced clean, efficient and powerful engine technology, and for the first time in a C-segment hatchback, we introduce our full hybrid system, Hybrid Synergy Drive®. This will greatly increase the appeal of Auris, connecting with consumers desiring the most efficient and advanced driving experience that makes everyday driving 'feel good'.'

Auris 2010

— Dynamic new styling with improved interior quality, ergonomics and visual appeal

— Hybrid Synergy Drive® and Toyota Optimal Drive - the most comprehensive range of powertrains in the C-segment

— Auris HSD marks the deployment of Hybrid Synergy Drive® technology across Toyota's entire European model range by the end of the decade

— Auris will be the first Toyota to comply with Euro 5 emission standards across the entire model range by July 2010

— CO2 emissions lowered throughout the engine range, with Auris HSD emitting 89g/km

— Revised suspension and steering for improved comfort and a rewarding driving experience

— Uprated grade strategy with improved standard equipment specification

Launched in 2007 at the heart of the highly competitive European C-segment, the Toyota Auris has built a solid reputation for roominess, comfort, practicality and reliability combined with a secure, economical driving experience.

On sale throughout Europe from early spring, the Auris 2010 will continue to appeal to those who prize the peace of mind offered by these core, family hatchback values. However, the revised model will also attract new customers who appreciate the marked improvements it offers in style and interior quality, its more refined driving experience and its wide choice of clean engine technologies.

With a choice of full hybrid drive, and three petrol and three diesel units offering the performance- and economy-enhancing benefits of Toyota Optimal Drive, the Toyota Auris 2010 engine line-up offers customers the most comprehensive range of powertrains in the C-segment.

The application of Toyota Optimal Drive across the Auris range in 2009 has already effected a significant improvement in the model's environmental performance, lowering CO2 emissions to segment-best levels. Even before the 2010 introduction of Hybrid Synergy Drive® to the model range, the overall Auris CO2 average has been reduced from 152 g/km in 2007 to 142 g/km in 2009.

Exclusively designed for the European market, the Auris HSD introduces full hybrid technology to a core model at the heart of the Toyota line-up, the first step in the deployment of HSD (Hybrid Synergy Drive® technology) across the company's entire European model range by the early 2020s. Built at Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK, it targets an important shift in customer perceptions of full hybrid technology.

Over and above the benefits of exceptional fuel efficiency and low CO2 emissions inherent in Hybrid Synergy Drive®, the everyday usability, driving comfort and remarkable quietness of Toyota's full hybrid powertrain will offer the Auris HSD customer a smooth and sophisticated driving experience entirely unique to the C-segment.

As a result of Hybrid Synergy Drive® and Toyota Optimal Drive technology, the Auris will be the first Toyota to comply with Euro 5 emission standards across the entire model range by July 2010. Toyota Optimal Drive has lowered CO2 emissions throughout the Auris 2010 engine range, with significant cost of ownership benefits to fleet customers.

However, the Auris HSD customer will also experience a smooth and sophisticated driving experience -unique to the C-segment- thanks to the everyday usability, driving comfort and remarkable quietness of Toyota's multiple award-winning, full hybrid powertrain.

With remarkably low 89 g/km CO2 emissions the Auris HSD plays a significant role in further reducing Toyota's whole-fleet CO2 average which, having fallen by 16 g/km between 2008 and 2009, already stands at just 130 g/km.

Hybrid Synergy Drive® - Full Hybrid technology

The new Auris HSD is a full hybrid capable of operating in petrol and electric modes alone, as well as a combination of both. Its Hybrid Synergy Drive® system delivers the energy-saving benefits of a series hybrid combined with the performance benefits of a parallel hybrid.

Full hybrid technology equips the new Toyota hatchback with impressive, seamless acceleration and remarkably quiet operation, while returning class-leading fuel efficiency and the lowest possible emissions.

The Auris HSD's latest generation, series/parallel full hybrid system features a 1.8 litre VVT-i petrol engine, a powerful electric motor, a generator, a high performance battery and a power control unit. A power split device employs a planetary gear set to combine and re-allocate power from the engine, electric motor and generator according to operational requirements.

Key to the successful installation of Hybrid Synergy Drive® within the Auris front-engined platform, the electric motor, generator and power split device are all housed in one transmission casing the size of a conventional gearbox. The full hybrid drive system's seamless, electric continuously variable transmission is controlled by shift-by-wire technology, using an electric shift lever system.

System power is provided by a lightweight, highly compact, 4-cylinder, 1798 cc, Atkinson cycle VVT-i petrol engine developing 98 DIN hp at 5200 rpm and 142 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm, and a high performance, permanent magnet, synchronous 60 kW electric motor generating a maximum 207 Nm of torque from 0-13000 rpm.

Powered by the hybrid battery, the electric motor works in tandem with the petrol engine to boost acceleration during normal driving. The electric motor alone powers the driven wheels when the Auris HSD is operating in EV mode.

During deceleration and under braking, the electric motor acts as a high-output generator to effect regenerative braking. Normally wasted as heat, kinetic energy is recovered as electrical energy for storage in the high performance battery.

In combination, the 1.8 litre VVT-i petrol engine and electric motor generate a maximum system power output of 136 DIN hp, offering performance to match any conventional 2.0 litre diesel or petrol hatchback. Conversely, the Auris HSD returns low CO2 emissions of 89 g/km . In addition, the Auris HSD generates significantly lower NOx emissions than diesel engined cars of comparable performance.

Moreover, when operating in a unique, switchable EV mode, the Auris HSD offers zero CO2 and NOx emissions, driving for up to two kilometres at speeds of up to about 50 km/h, dependant on battery charge and driving conditions.

Unique Auris HSD eco driving experience

The Auris HSD offers four driving modes, including three on-demand modes, which not only maximise the capabilities of the Hybrid Synergy Drive® powertrain, but also incorporate comprehensive Eco driving support for those who wish to adopt more environmentally friendly driving techniques.

An EV mode allows for ultra-quiet running on electric motor power alone, resulting in zero fuel consumption and emissions an ECO mode maximises hybrid system efficiency and fuel economy and a POWER mode boosts system performance. In addition, an Eco Drive Monitor helps drivers maximise the fuel efficiency of Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive® system.

Via the multi-information indicator in the combination meter, drivers may monitor the flow of energy within the Hybrid Synergy Drive® system for each driving mode. This helps them develop relaxed, fuel efficient driving techniques and maximise system efficiency. In addition, a simple yet clear power consumption gauge in the combination meter shows how much power is being used or generated at any given time.

Taking advantage of the inherent operational quietness of Hybrid Synergy Drive®, particular attention has also been paid to Noise Vibration and Harshness (NVH) reduction measures. This ensures customers enjoy a calm, quiet cabin environment at all vehicle speeds. Road and engine noise have been rigorously suppressed through the comprehensive use of sound-proofing materials. Full thickness glazing and an acoustic windscreen design further reduce wind noise for improved quietness at cruising speeds.

Toyota Optimal Drive applied to all petrol and diesel engines

Designed to optimise the balance of performance and driving enjoyment with fuel economy and low emissions, Toyota Optimal Drive focuses on several key aspects of powertrain development such as environmentally friendly technologies, low friction components, lightweight, compact design and enhanced combustion efficiency.

The application of Toyota Optimal Drive across the Auris range has significantly reduced CO2 emissions. The overall Auris CO2 average has been reduced from 152 g/km in 2007 to 142 g/km in 2009. In 2011, which will be the first full year of Auris range sales, the figure will reduce further to just 125 g/km.

Petrol engines

1.33 litre Dual VVT-i with Stop & Start system

The 1.33 litre Dual VVT-i petrol engine generates 73 kW/ 99 DIN hp and maximum torque of 128 Nm at 3800 rpm, while returning an average fuel consumption of 6.0 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of only 139 g/km.

The unit benefits from numerous Toyota Optimal Drive engine optimisations. A combination of lightweight technology, a resin cylinder head cover and intake manifold, and a remarkably compact design has effected a substantial reduction in engine weight and size. Combustion efficiency has been improved through the use of a high efficiency intake port, a high compression ratio and long reach spark plugs.

Extensive friction reduction measures include enhanced engine block rigidity and bore circularity, an improved valve roller rocker arm design with a new camshaft profile, small, lightweight pistons with a low friction coating, low viscosity oil and a water jacket spacer.

Toyota Optimal Drive's environmental technologies are represented by the application of a wide ratio 6-speed manual transmission and optional, Stop & Start System technology.

This innovative system automatically switches off the engine when the vehicle is stopped. The world's first permanently engaged ring gear mechanism allows for automatic engine restart within half a second when the clutch is lifted, with significant reductions in engine start noise and seat vibration levels.

Thus equipped, the 1.33 litre Dual VVT-i unit's fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are lowered still further, to just 5.9 l/100 km and 136 g/km respectively.

1.6 and 1.8 litre Valvematic petrol engines

The 1.6-litre Valvematic engine develops 132 DIN hp and class-leading maximum torque of 160 Nm at only 4400 rpm. When equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, the unit returns a combined cycle fuel consumption of 6.6 l/100 km and generates CO2 emissions of only 152 g/km. MultiMode transmission further reduces both fuel consumption and emissions, to 6.3 l/100 km and 146 g/km respectively.

The 1.8 litre Valvematic engine develops 147 DIN hp and maximum torque of 180 Nm at 4000 rpm, yet the engine's combined fuel consumption is only 6.7 l/100 km, and CO2 emissions are 155 g/km.

Through the application of Toyota Optimal Drive, both engines benefit from the same lightweight technology, compact design and combustion efficiency engine optimisations as the 1.33 litre unit.

In addition, friction reduction measures include an improved valve roller rocker arm design with a new camshaft profile, small, lightweight pistons with a low friction coating, enhanced engine block rigidity and bore circularity, and low viscosity oil.

The environmental technologies of Toyota Optimal Drive are represented by the application of wide ratio 6-speed manual transmissions and an optional, MultiMode transmission available with the 1.6 litre unit.

Offering class-leading efficiency, power and torque, Valvematic is a further development of Toyota's highly successful Dual Variable Valve Timing-intelligent (Dual VVT-i) system.

Adding lift and duration control to the variable inlet valve timing to deliver more power for less fuel consumption with reduced CO2 emissions, Valvematic also reduces friction and pumping losses under light engine loads, further lowering fuel consumption.

Diesel engines

The three diesel engines in the Auris 2010 model range also benefit from the extensive application of Toyota Optimal Drive technologies.

Lightweight technology and a compact design have resulted in a marked reduction in engine weight and size. Numerous combustion efficiency enhancing measures include a lower compression ratio, optimised combustion chamber dimensions, enhanced Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler efficiency and stainless steel exhaust manifolds with close-coupled Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF).

The adoption of Piezo injectors is of particular significance. Their high speed reaction time makes multi-phase high speed injection possible. This has the effect of both lowering the rate of combustion expansion and effecting a more thorough burn within the combustion chamber, thus further reducing particulate, NOx and CO2 emissions.

The 2.2 litre engine also benefits from Toyota's Diesel-Clean Advanced Technology (Toyota D-CAT), which incorporates a Diesel Particulate and NOx Reduction filter (DPNR).

1.4 D-4D 90 diesel engine

The 1.4 litre D-4D engine develops 90 DIN hp and maximum torque of 205 Nm at only 1800 to 2800 rpm, and may be equipped with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) for CO2 emissions that are amongst the lowest in the C-segment.

When equipped with the manual transmission and a CCo, the 1.4 D-4D 90 unit returns a combined cycle fuel consumption of 4.7 l/100 km and generates CO2 emissions of only 124 g/km. Manual versions fitted with a DPF return just 4.5 l/100 km and a remarkable 118 g/km.

This outstanding, 118 g/km CO2 emissions performance has been achieved through combining Toyota Optimal Drive with various measures designed to maximise the aerodynamic and fuel efficiency of the Auris 1.4 D-4D 90, such as lowered suspension and low rolling resistance tyres.

2.0 D-4D 125 and 2.2 D-4D 180 diesel engines

With a DPF fitted as standard, the 2.0 D-4D 125 delivers 126 DIN hp and maximum torque of 310 Nm from 1800 to 2400 rpm. Combined cycle fuel consumption is 5.2 l/100 km and CO2 emissions are 138 g/km.

The Auris' powerful, 2.2 litre turbodiesel further benefits from Toyota's Diesel-Clean Advanced Technology (Toyota D-CAT), which incorporates a Diesel Particulate and NOx Reduction filter (DPNR).

The 2.2 D-4D 180 unit delivers 177 DIN hp and a highly impressive maximum torque of 400 Nm between 2000 and 2800 rpm. Conversely, average fuel consumption is just 5.9 l/100 km, and CO2 emissions only 154 g/km.

6-speed manual and MultiMode transmissions

Every engine in the Auris 2010 range is mated to a Toyota Optimal Drive six-speed manual transmission featuring wide-spread ratios designed to optimise fuel consumption and lower CO2.

An optional, MultiMode transmission is available on 1.6 Valvematic petrol and 1.4 D-4D 90 diesel versions. MultiMode is an automated manual transmission with a fully automatic shift mode and no clutch pedal. It offers the driver a choice of two, fully automatic gear change modes or a manual, sequential gear change with steering wheel-mounted shift paddles.

Revised suspension and steering for an improved driving experience

Through close collaboration between Toyota's European and Japanese Research and Development teams, the implementation of regional customer feedback and extensive European testing the Auris' suspension system has been fine-tuned specifically for the customers and roads of the European market. It combines stable high speed driving performance with secure handling and superior ride comfort.

Auris will be in fact the first Toyota core model available with full hybrid technology, offering the C segment customers a unique choice of petrol, diesel or full hybrid powertrains.

Auris HSD generates class-leading CO2 emissions of just 89 g/km and fuel consumption of only 3.8 l/100 km in the European homologation combined cycle.

Unique to full hybrid technology, the Auris HSD can drive for up to two kilometres at speeds of up to about 50 km/h when operating in EV mode, generating zero CO2 and NOx emissions.

In addition to a smooth, sophisticated and stress-free driving experience, the Auris HSD represents also outstanding value for money. Its best-in-class CO2 emissions and fuel economy offer customers significant, pan-European tax incentives, inner city congestion charge exemption and exceptionally low running costs.

corporate,2010 auris
