The show, to be held at Tokyo Big Sight in Koto Ward, Tokyo, will run from November 20 to December 1. The Smart Mobility City 2013 section1 aims to demonstrate the new roles that vehicles could play in the daily lives of their users and society in general.

Toyota will present a vision of a not-too-distant future where mobility incorporates societal and lifestyle factors and driving is more safe, secure and fun. The booth will showcase three of the four key fields2 in which Toyota believes development to be essential in realizing the Smart Mobility Society of the future.

Next-Generation Urban Transport Systems

Toyota will present "Ha:mo", a next-generation urban transport system that has been under trial in Japan since last year3. Ha:mo has been designed to provide transport that is amenable to users, cities and society as a whole by optimally combining personal mobility vehicles such as automobiles with public transportation. The system features new mobility options such as the "Toyota i-Road" personal mobility concept car and the "COMS" ultra-compact single-occupant electric vehicle.

Mobility options on display:

Toyota i-Road (Japan premiere of vehicle for verification testing)The Toyota i-Road is a personal mobility vehicle that offers a novel riding experience in an ultra-compact package that combines the convenience of a motorcycle with the comfort and stability of a car. In early 2014, the vehicle will be introduced to the Ha:mo urban traffic system currently being tested in Japan.

COMSThis will be the first showing of the two-seater "T-COMS" vehicle developed by Toyota Auto Body Co., Ltd. The T-COMS will take part in the Ha:mo project from the middle of December.

WingletThe "Winglet" is an ultra-compact personal transport assistance robot that makes innovative use of robot control technologies and a unique parallel link mechanism. The Winglet is ridden in a standing position, and can be operated simply by shifting body weight.

Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems

Through the use of automated driving technologies and driving support systems, Toyota aims to ensure safe and environment-friendly mobility while keeping the driver in ultimate control. Toyota's booth will feature advanced driving support technologies that allow vehicles to communicate with infrastructure, pedestrians and other vehicles.

Vehicle-to-Infrastructure Cooperative Driving SimulatorVisitors can learn about environment-friendly driving support systems that use road-to-vehicle, vehicle-to-vehicle and pedestrian-to-vehicle communication to reduce the likelihood of traffic accidents.

Intelligent Driver-support SystemsToyota plans to use Intelligent Driver-support Systems to achieve its ultimate goal of eliminating traffic injuries and fatalities. As an important step toward that goal, Toyota's Automated Highway Driving Assist promotes safe and skillful driving by combining Cooperative-adaptive Cruise Control (C-ACC) and Lane Trace Control (LTC), two brand-new features. C-ACC uses vehicle-to-vehicle communication to adapt quickly to the deceleration and acceleration of other vehicles, while LTC uses sensors to detect lane lines and steers to ensure that an optimal driving line is maintained.

Next-Generation Telematics

Thanks to advances in information and communication technology, mobility is becoming more comfortable, appealing and efficient than ever. Toyota is creating systems for gathering and processing data and turning it into information that is useful to both large- and small-scale users. The Toyota booth will showcase some recent developments in this field.

Big Data Traffic Information ServiceThis new service collects large-scale driving data (including vehicle position, speed, and other statistical data), which is then used by local governments and businesses for traffic flow improvement, map information and disaster response measures. Through this kind of service, Toyota hopes that "big data" will contribute to urban development that is more convenient, comfortable and disaster-resilient.

Voice Recognition AgentThis cloud-based voice-operated service enables users to search for and set destinations in an intuitive manner. The system even supports colloquial or ambiguous expressions, and achieves superior data processing capacity thanks to the Toyota Smart Center. Toyota will continue to develop related services, such as a recommendation service that uses behavioral prediction and driver preference history to provide information by voice.

smart G-BOOK"smart G-BOOK" is a newly developed smartphone-based navigation service that provides total travel support, whether the user is driving or walking. The service incorporates the voice recognition agent function and T-Probe traffic information4, and adjusts for traffic congestion. It can also help mitigate the impact of disasters by showing available routes and providing directions to evacuation shelters. The Toyota booth will also feature a new smartphone application created for the Middle East market. The application will be based on the smart G-BOOK service, which was launched in Thailand earlier this year.

Other Exhibits

In the Rooftop Exhibition Area, visitors will be able to test drive the Intelligent Parking Assist (IPA) system that steers during parking and the Intelligent Clearance Sonar (ICS) system that detects obstacles and applies the brakes when setting off (even in the event of acceleration due to pedal misapplication). A Winglet will also be on display at the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association booth in the West Exhibition Hall.

1Organized by Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc. (JAMA)

2Next-generation urban traffic systems cooperative intelligent transport systems next-generation telematics and energy management

3Verification testing began in October 2012 at Chukyo University in Toyota City, Japan, and its nearest station, and was expanded in October 2013.

The Toyota FCV Concept is a practical concept of the fuel cell vehicle Toyota plans to launch around 2015 as a pioneer in the development of hydrogen-powered vehicles. The vehicle has a driving range of at least 500 km and refueling times as low as three minutes, roughly the same time as for a gasoline vehicle.

The vehicle's exterior design evokes two key characteristics of a fuel cell vehicle: the transformation of air into water as the system produces electricity, and the powerful acceleration enabled by the electric drive motor. The bold front view features pronounced air intakes, while the sleek side view conveys the air-to-water transformation with its flowing-liquid door profile and wave-motif fuel cap. The theme carries to the rear view, which conveys a catamaran's stern and the flow of water behind.

With Toyota's proprietary small, light-weight FC Stack and two 70 MPa high-pressure hydrogen tanks placed beneath the specially designed body, the Toyota FCV Concept can accommodate up to four occupants.

The Toyota FC Stack has a power output density of 3 kW/L, more than twice that of the current "Toyota FCHV-adv" FC Stack, and an output of at least 100 kW. In addition, the FC system is equipped with Toyota's high-efficiency boost converter. Increasing the voltage has made it possible to reduce the size of the motor and the number of fuel cells, leading to a smaller system offering enhanced performance at reduced cost.

Fully fueled, the vehicle can provide enough electricity to meet the daily needs of an average Japanese home (10 kWh) for more than one week.

The Toyota FV2 is a concept car that can express Toyota's "Fun to Drive" philosophy even in a future world in which vehicle technology has greatly progressed. The vehicle enhances the driving experience by connecting physically and emotionally with the driver, becoming more fun to drive the more it is used.

Physical connection: Rather than using a steering wheel, the Toyota FV2 is operated by the driver shifting his or her body to intuitively move the vehicle forward and back, left and right. In addition, by using intelligent transport system technology to connect with other vehicles in the area and traffic infrastructure, the Toyota FV2 helps enable safe driving by providing a wide variety of safety information, including advance warnings about vehicles in blind spots at intersections.

Emotional connection: Toyota envisions an ever-developing driver-vehicle relationship similar to the relationship of trust and understanding that a rider might have with his or her horse. By incorporating technology from the "Toyota Heart Project", both the driver and the Toyota FV2 can grow together. The vehicle uses voice and image recognition to determine the driver's mood, accumulated driving history to suggest destinations, and driving skill information to assist the user. In addition to an augmented reality (AR)1 display on the windshield, the body color and exterior display can be changed at will, creating a more intimate relationship between vehicle and driver.

Toyota has created an exclusive smartphone application that enables users to experience the mobility of the future envisioned by the Toyota FV2. The application, released today, can be downloaded free of charge through the AppStore2 and Google Play3 application platforms.

The concept, called the "Camatte57s"2, is aimed at bringing parents and children closer together as they work in collaboration on building their ideal car. The vehicle aims to convey the joy and dreams of motor vehicles to current and future drivers, by providing an opportunity for parents and children to together experience the fun of driving, car customization and car enthusiasm. Compared to the "Camatte" concept exhibited in 2012, the Camatte57s allows an even greater ease and range of customization possibilities.

Major Features

1) Detachable body panels enable easy, extensive customization

The vehicle body exterior consists of 57 detachable small lightweight panels to allow easy and extensive color and design customization.

2) Open-top roadster styling with compact and intimate interior

The roofless design offers a liberating driving experience while also enhancing visibility to increase ease of customization.

Seats are in a closely arranged triangular configuration with one front seat and two rear seats to emphasize family intimacy and facilitate communication.

3) Even children can drive3

Acceleration and braking pedals and seats can be adjusted to enable operation by children, while an adult seated in the rear-right seat assists steering and braking to help develop the child's driving skills.

2The name Camatte is based on the Japanese word for care and is meant to signify "caring for others" and "caring for cars". The "s" stands for the Japanese word sawaru, which means to touch. The name thus reflects the idea that people should feel more in touch with each other and with vehicles.
