Using a hybrid powerplant, this crossover gives a first hint of a type of vehicle that Toyota would like to bring to the C-segment market.</p>

<p>The TOYOTA C-HR Concept introduces an expressive new, diamond architecture styling theme to the segment. Below a compact, sensual cabin profile, the lower bodywork has been sculpted to represent the facetted surfaces of a highly-durable, precision-cut gemstone.</p>

<p>The front of the TOYOTA C-HR Concept is not only a further development of Toyota's Under Priority and Keen Look design identity, but also introduces new styling themes which hint at a future design direction for Toyota vehicles.</p>

<p>From the side, the highly-facetted lower body, muscular wheel arches and aggressively angular rear shoulder are juxtaposed with an exceptionally sleek cabin profile.</p>

<p>Highly-distinctive, aero-inspired, floating rear lamp clusters further enhance the broad shoulders of the TOYOTA C-HR Concept's lower bodywork.</p>

Presented to the public for the first time at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, the new Toyota Fuel Cell Sedan is capable of carrying 4 passengers in comfort. It has a range comparable to that of a petrol engine vehicle and may be refuelled in just 3 minutes, yet emits nothing but water vapour.</p>

<p>The world's first production hydrogen-powered sedan is a development of the Toyota FCV Concept which made its international debut at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. Though remaining faithful to the avant-garde styling of that concept, the Toyota Fuel Cell Sedan's radiator grille, headlamps and rear lights as well as the aerial, roof and fuel-filler flap have been modified in the interests of road-going practicality. And the concept's cameras have, of course, been replaced by classic exterior rear-view mirrors.</p>

<p>The Toyota Fuel Cell Sedan will be launched in Europe in 2015.</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Specific Architecture</strong>&nbsp;</p>

<p>Designed to provide a practical solution to motorists' everyday requirements, the new hydrogen-powered Toyota is a front-wheel drive 4-door, 4-seater sedan. It features performance and a cruising range similar to a gasoline engine vehicle and a refuelling time of roughly three minutes</p>

<p>To maximise cabin space and lower the centre of gravity, a distinctive feature of its architecture is that the fuel cell, battery and tanks are installed under the floor. The two tanks store hydrogen at pressures of up to 700 bar.</p>

<p>The front compartment houses the electric motor, electronic control system and boost converter. Increasing the voltage produced by the fuel cell, this converter has allowed both the size of the motor and the number of cells to be reduced, thus cutting costs and increasing performance.</p>

<p>Since 2002, when Toyota began renting Highlander SUV-based fuel cell vehicles to Japanese and North American customers, technology has advanced considerably.</p>

<p>A key feature of this new generation of fuel cell is that it has no humidifier. The humidity required for its operation is derived directly from the production of water inherent in the chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen. The structure of the cell is therefore simpler, more reliable, more compact, lighter and, all-in-all, cheaper.</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Commercialisation</strong>&nbsp;</p>

<p>The car will go on sale in Japan before April 2015, and preparations are underway for launches in the U.S. and European markets in the Summer of 2015.</p>

<p>In Japan, the Fuel Cell Sedan will go on sale at Toyota and Toyopet dealerships, priced at approximately 7 million yen (MSRP - excludes consumption tax). Initially, sales will be limited to regions where a hydrogen refuelling infrastructure is also under development. Europe and U.S. prices have not yet been decided. More detailed information, such as specifications, exact prices and sales targets, will be announced at a later date.</p>

<p><strong>Toyota's Stance on FCV RandD</strong></p>

<p>Toyota's commitment to environmentally-friendly vehicles is based on three basic principles: embracing diverse energy sources developing efficient, low-emission vehicles and driving real and positive environmental change by popularising these vehicles.</p>

<p>Hydrogen is a particularly promising alternative fuel. It can be produced from a wide variety of primary energy sources &mdash; including solar power and wind power &mdash; and is easy to store and transport. When compressed, it has a higher energy density than batteries. In addition to its potential as a fuel for home and automotive use, hydrogen could be used in a wide range of further applications, including large-scale power generation.</p>

<p>Fuel cell vehicles contribute to the diversification of automobile fuels, emit no CO2 or environmentally harmful substances during operation, and offer all the convenience of gasoline-powered cars. Toyota believes they have a great deal of potential, and are ideal environmentally-friendly vehicles with which to promote a sustainable-mobility society.</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>The Hyfive Project</strong>&nbsp;</p>

<p>The aim of the Hyfive Project (Hydrogen for Innovative Vehicles) is to speed up the introduction of hydrogen-powered cars on European roads. 15 car manufacturing and energy providing partners are involved. They will join forces to ensure a coordinated deployment of fuel cell vehicles, in conjunction with the establishment of the refuelling infrastructure required for their operation.</p>

<p>Toyota, BMW, Daimler, Honda and Hyundai will be responsible for the deployment of a fleet of 110 vehicles to 6 European cities -Bolzano, Copenhagen, Innsbruck, London, Munich and Stuttgart. A network of hydrogen refuelling pumps will be developed simultaneously within these 5 regions, as well as in Sweden, a close neighbour of Denmark.</p>

<p>From now until the effective launch of the programme at the end of 2015, the vehicles deployed by Toyota will be equipped with a continuous data login system for the entire duration of the 3-year project. Thus they will provide the engineers with detailed, day-to-day feedback on their use and performance, information essential to the further development of this fledgling technology.</p>

<p>Discussing the new Aygo, David Terai, Chief Engineer of the new Aygo said: 'All too often, A-segment cars lack in desirability. There seems to be an implicit agreement amongst manufacturers that drivers of small cars won't mind having to compromise. Design is treated as secondary, and there isn't much equipment to select from. I simply cannot believe that this is true. I am convinced that these drivers -just like any other- want a car that they can be proud of, and I took it as my task to create such a car.'</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Dramatic J-Playful Design</strong></p>

<p>New AYGO rejects the stereotypical A-segment design principles of functionality over styling. Despite class-leading compactness (just 7 mm longer than its predecessor at 3,455 mm), it has a striking appearance, with dramatic and sophisticated yet playful lines.</p>

<p>Within a robust, mono-form bodyshell, new AYGO owes its unique character to a 'J-Playful' design concept based on the expansion of a soft object within a rigid structure. As it bursts through the hard shell it creates break lines, forming the AYGO's bold frontal 'X' graphic. This spreads outwards across the surface of the bodywork, and contains all the vehicle's key components, including upper and lower grilles, headlamps, foglamps, and even mirrors and side glazing.</p>

<p>This powerful 'X' graphic also forms the basis for exterior customisation, which is integral to the design of the new AYGO.</p>

<p>In profile, the roof has been lowered by 5 mm and the header moved forwards, shifting the cabin's centre of gravity to the front. This creates a more balanced, forward-leaning posture. The roof itself features a new, pagoda-style profile and an integral rear spoiler to aid aerodynamics.</p>

<p>The rear of new AYGO mirrors the frontal 'X' graphic, the tailgate and lower bumper forming the break lines which split the solid surface of the vehicle. The upper bumper section widens into strongly protruding wheel arches which give the vehicle a broad, stable stance.</p>

<p>On board, the trapezoidal centre console provides the main interior design theme. Its design is mirrored throughout the cabin in such elements as air vents, door trim and the gear level bezel.</p>

<p>The console supports a wide dashboard with a matt, anti-glare finish, framed by sleek A-pillars designed to increase driver visibility. The instrumentation features a permanently lit, high-visibility, concentric ring meter incorporating a central, multi-function display.</p>

<p>As with the exterior, numerous interior elements can be customised.</p>

<p>Despite an unchanged wheelbase of 2,340 mm, the length of the passenger compartment has been increased by 9 mm. The driving position has been improved by reducing the steering wheel angle from 28 to 26.6 degrees, lowering the front seat hip point by 10 mm, and equipping the seat with height adjustment. A 7 mm increase in headroom and 20 mm wider armrest further contribute to front seat comfort.</p>

<p>Luggage capacity has been increased by 29 litres to 168 litres, and access has been improved by a 75 mm wider loadspace opening between the tailgate sill and rear seat back.</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Clever Customisation, At Any Time</strong></p>

<p>With a comprehensive range of simple, affordable and readily available customisation choices, new AYGO customers can tailor their car to their personal taste.</p>

<p>More than 10 parts around the vehicle can be easily replaced at any stage during the life of the vehicle. Clever construction and a carefully considered installation strategy ensure this process is fast, straightforward and inexpensive.</p>

<p>Interchangeable parts on the exterior -the x-shaped front grille, rear bumper insert, front fender garnish and alloy wheels- and in the interior -the instrument panel, centre console, air vents, shift knob and gear lever surround- can easily be changed within a short time, even after several years of ownership.</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Generous Grades, Personalisation Packs and Special Editions</strong></p>

<p>Standard equipment on new AYGO is generous. All models feature an AM/FM audio system with USB and AUX connections, LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL), PES projector headlights, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Hill Start Assist, fitted as standard.</p>

<p>The 'x' entry grade model combines all the standard new AYGO equipment with a matt black front grille treatment and 14" steel wheels.</p>

<p>'x-play' lies at the heart of the new AYGO grade strategy. This version is the basis for all customisation, and also forms the foundation for the special editions 'x-cite', 'x-clusiv' and x-pure'.</p>

<p>It features a piano black x-shaped front grille and 15" steel wheels. Standard equipment includes leather steering wheel-mounted audio control switches, a height adjustable driver's seat and an adjustable speed limiter.</p>

<p>With a large canvas roof and 15" silver alloys, the 'x-wave' sits at the top of the new AYGO grade ladder. The interior features body-coloured inserts and partial leather seats. The standard AYGO audio-system is upgraded to the x-touch multimedia system.</p>

<p>Fully integrated within the instrument panel, x-touch features a 7" full colour touch screen and Mirrorlink smartphone connectivity. It is the first system in the A-segment to have a rear view camera fitted as standard.</p>

<p>In addition, three Special Editions (which will be regularly renewed) are available. 'x-cite' features a Pop Orange body colour, piano black details and 15" bi-spoke glossy black alloys. 'x-clusiv' marries Midnight Black bodywork to Super Chrome detailing. And 'x-pure' features a Cool White finish with Super Chrome detailing.</p>

<p>The straightforward range of three grades and three Special Edition vehicles is complimented by two exterior and interior packs, allowing customers to fully personalise new AYGO to their liking.</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Fuel-efficient, Quiet and Fun to Drive</strong></p>

<p>New AYGO has been engineered to not only deliver class-leading fuel efficiency, but also to make it more comfortable, quieter and, above all, more fun to drive.</p>

<p>Significant improvements to the engine, the adoption of Toyota's Stop & Start system, bodyshell weight reduction and optimised airflow management combine to maximise fuel efficiency.</p>

<p>Increased body rigidity, improved aerodynamics, and fine-tuned suspension, steering and transmissions combine to improve driving stability, ride comfort, handling agility and responsiveness to driver inputs, taking AYGO driving pleasure to new heights. Moreover, comprehensive Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) measures ensure a quieter cabin.</p>

<p>Toyota's award-winning 998 cc, 3-cylinder, 12 valve, DOHC, VVT-i engine has been comprehensively revised, with a focus on combustion efficiency, reduced friction losses and an optimised exhaust system for low emissions. Alternating between the Atkinson and Otto cycles for the optimum combination of fuel efficiency and performance, it reaches an exceptional thermal efficiency of 37%.</p>

<p>Engine power has been boosted to 51 kW (69 DIN hp) at 6,000 rpm. Torque output has been significantly increased to 95 Nm at 4,300 rpm, with 85 Nm of torque now available from as little as 2,000 rpm. New AYGO will accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 14.2 seconds, and on to a top speed of 160 km/h.</p>

<p>New AYGO comes in both standard and Eco-versions. The latter benefits from a longer 4th and 5th gear, low Rolling Resistance Coefficient (RRC) tyres, Toyota's Stop & Start system and aerodynamic improvements.</p>

<p>The standard version achieves a drop in fuel consumption from 4.4 to 4.1 l/100 km, which translates into a 7 g/km drop in CO<sub>2</sub> emissions to just 95 g/km. The Eco unit does even better, with fuel economy of 3.8 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 88 g/km.</p>

<p>Its gear ratios revised for a better balance of driving pleasure and fuel economy, x-shift is available as an option on new AYGO. This vastly improved automated manual transmission has a fully automatic shift mode and no clutch pedal, using computer control to synchronize engine, clutch and transaxle for quick and precise gear shifts. When equipped with x-shift, new AYGO returns fuel consumption of 4.2 l/100 km and generates CO<sub>2</sub> emissions of only 97 g/km.</p>]]></description><category><![CDATA[toyota news,2014 AYGO,2014 paris]]></category>

                        <guid>https://newsroom.toyota.eu/2019-toyota-i-road-the-agility-of-a-motorcycle-the-comfort-of-a-car/</guid><pp:caseid>327748</pp:caseid><description><![CDATA[<p>Less than 2 years after Toyota first revealed its i-ROAD concept vehicle, a road-legal, 2-seater version of the company's tricycle-format Personal Mobility Vehicle (PMV) makes its European debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.</p>

<p>Personal Mobility Vehicles are a new form of transportation which offers greater flexibility in the urban environment. They are substantially more comfortable, weatherproof, stable and safe than scooters and motorcycles.</p>

<p>Moreover, they not only share zero emission during operation and low running costs of an electric vehicle, but also the compact dimensions similar to a conventional two-wheeler (most notably width) essential to urban manoeuvrability and easy parking.</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>More user-friendly, weatherproof design</strong></p>

<p>The design of the Toyota i-ROAD has been further refined over that of the concept vehicle to offer improved visibility, weatherproofing, manoeuvrability and user-friendliness.</p>

<p>To the side, the doors are now equipped with manually operated windows, making the i-ROAD completely weatherproof. This gives the new Toyota PMV a considerable advantage over conventional two-wheelers, allowing it to be driven without either a helmet or specialist outer clothing in all weather conditions.</p>

<p>The rear has been redesigned with a reduced overhang, restyled and repositioned combination lamps, and a small rear window for improved visibility when manoeuvring. The new i-ROAD is finished in a choice of five urban-chic body colours.</p>

<p>On-board, in conjunction with the normal accelerator and brake pedals of any city car, a more conventional, fully-round steering wheel design has been adopted to improve user-friendliness and ease of driving.</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Active Lean technology and rear-wheel steering</strong></p>

<p>2,345 mm long, 1,455 mm high, 870 mm wide and with a wheelbase of 1,695 mm, the revised Toyota i-ROAD is 5 mm shorter, 10 mm higher and 20 mm wider than the concept vehicle, and still boasts ultra-compact dimensions.</p>

<p>This equips the PMV with the ability to manoeuvre smoothly along roadsides and narrow alleys, and also makes it possible to park four i-ROADs in a single car parking bay.</p>

<p>The full electric powertrain of the Toyota i-ROAD remains unchanged, featuring a lithium-ion battery providing power to a pair of 1.9 kW electric motors mounted within the front wheels. Combining brisk acceleration with near-silent running, the Toyota PMV has a range of some 50 km*, after which it may be fully recharged from a conventional household power outlet in just three hours.</p>

<p>Key to the higher levels of stability, safety, comfort and enjoyment associated with the Toyota i-ROAD driving experience is Toyota's new, entirely intuitive 'Active Lean' technology.</p>

<p>Operating in conjunction with rear-wheel steering via a conventional steering wheel, the Active Lean system features a lean actuator motor and gearing mounted above the front suspension member, linked via a yoke to the left and right front wheels.</p>

<p>An ECU calculates the required lean based on steering angle, gyro-sensor and vehicle speed information. The system automatically moves the wheels up and down in opposite directions and is able to apply a lean angle to counteract the centrifugal force of cornering.</p>

<p>The system also operates when the i-ROAD is being driven straight ahead on a stepped surface, the lean actuator automatically compensating for changes in the road surface to keep the body level.</p>

<p>Active Lean technology delivers a unique driving experience, with all the enjoyment of two-wheeler riding, exceptional manoeuvrability and a minimum turning circle of just 3.0 metres, yet without the need for the driver to stabilise the vehicle during slow speed manoeuvres, or when stationary.</p>

<p>Because the system obviates the need for the driver to lower his feet to the road surface at any time, the Toyota i-ROAD may be equipped with a safer, weatherproof, closed body construction.</p>

<p>This not only means that the new PMV may be driven without a helmet, but also allows for a more car-like on-board environment, with the potential to benefit from such features as heating, an audio system and Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity.</p>

<p><strong>Three-year real-life test in Grenoble, France</strong></p>

<p>In October 2014, urban transport of the future will become a reality in the French city of Grenoble.</p>

<p>A partnership formed between the City of Grenoble, Grenoble-Alpes M&eacute;tropole, EDF, Sodetrel, Toyota and Cit&eacute;lib will conduct a 3-year trial targeting an increase in the efficiency and effectiveness of public transport systems (trams, buses, trains) through their interconnectivity with full electric Personal Mobility Vehicles.</p>

<p>This real-life test will allow commuters in Grenoble to drive the first or last few kilometres of their trip in a PMV, whilst using public transport for the majority of their journey. This will not only increase flexibility and time-saving, but also contribute to reduced traffic congestion and improved air quality in city centres.</p>

<p>Connected to Grenoble's public transport IT infrastructure, this trial scheme will complement the city's current car-sharing service by allowing users to pick up a PMV at one location and drop it off at another.</p>

<p>By bringing together their respective competencies, the project partners aim to offer Grenoble an innovative service which will allow a thorough, real-life evaluation of the potential of this new form of mobility.</p>

<p>Toyota's role in this new partnership will be to provide 35 i-ROAD PMVs as part of a total fleet of 70 ultra-compact, all-electric Toyota vehicles. All vehicles may be charged at one of over 100 charging points, spread around 30 new charging stations located close to public transport stops throughout the city.</p>

<p>Participants in this visionary car-sharing scheme will be able to make use of two dedicated smartphone apps. One includes an intelligent route planner designed to help users reach their destination via the most efficient route and transport method, based on real-time traffic congestion information, public transport schedules and the other offers availability of PMVs. Reflecting the highly competitive nature of the B-segment in Europe, its distinctive styling ensures that it really stands out from the crowd.</p>

<p>Discussing the new 2014 Yaris, Alessandro Massimino, Product Manager at Toyota Motor Europe said: "Yaris has always been a very powerful proposition from a rational perspective: great packaging, durability, cost of ownership... And we've had an extremely positive response to the hybrid version. So, with the new 2014 Yaris, we wanted to go one step further: to create a vehicle that would appeal not only to our customer's brains, but also to their hearts.'</p>

<p><strong>Dynamic, Emotive Exterior Design</strong>&nbsp;</p>

<p>New, 2014 Yaris features an even stronger, more dynamic execution of Toyota's bold Under Priority frontal design language with Keen Look detailing. The narrow upper and large, trapezoidal lower grilles which hallmark Under Priority design now merge to form a powerful, cross-shaped structure.</p>

<p>A chrome trim bar runs through the length of the upper grille into Keen Look headlamp clusters, tying the frontal elements together with a strong, horizontal emphasis of vehicle width. The headlamp clusters themselves incorporate new projector lamp technology for both high and low beams, and LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL).</p>

<p>Underlined by a 'floating' spoiler which further strengthens the dominance of the Under Priority design language, the large, trapezoidal lower grille focuses attention on the bottom of the new Yaris, reinforcing the dynamic potential of its ground-hugging stance and low centre of gravity.</p>

<p>To the rear, a new bumper design gives the appearance of a broader, lower stance, whilst the integral diffuser strengthens the new Yaris' road presence with a more sporting, self-confident image. Upgraded rear lamp clusters incorporate a new, LED light graphic which further enhances the vehicle's personality with a unique lighting signature made possible by using light-guide technology.</p>

<p>Unlike the previous generation Yaris, all powertrain derivatives now share the same overall styling, with more subtle cues alone identifying different versions, including the Yaris Hybrid.</p>

<p><strong>More Sophisticated Interior with Enhanced Sensory Quality</strong></p>

<p>The new interior design reflects three key, customer-informed objectives: enhanced roominess and dynamism in the cabin, improved sensory quality and overall visual simplification with better colour variation and more sophisticated finishes.</p>

<p>Creating a more horizontal feel to the dashboard, the upper instrument panel is thinner, and the upper surface of the driver's instrument binnacle has been restyled for a slimmer look. The door panel has also been redesigned to combine a more fluid, dynamic appearance with a larger soft-touch area and greater functionality.</p>

<p>The centre console has been raised by 23 mm to reduce the length of the gear shift lever. Now featuring the latest Toyota Touch 2 multimedia systems, the console touch screen has been increased in size from 6.1" to 7". This visually emphasises one of the Yaris' unique features.</p>

<p>The area of soft touch finishes has been increased within the cabin. The upper instrument panel grain finish has been changed for improved tactility and a less glossy appearance. The Yaris-trademark, sculpted central dashboard panel features an increase in soft-padding thickness, and its graining differs between model grades.</p>

<p>Throughout, normal chrome trim has been replaced by satin chrome, giving a more modern, sophisticated appearance. The new, 2014 Yaris further benefits from a range of all-new seat trims, with a new fabric pattern and colour for each grade.</p>

<p><strong>New Grade Strategy and Equipment for Broader Appeal</strong></p>

<p>Matching the B-segment's widening base, new 2014 Yaris offers broader appeal through a range of more clearly differentiated grades, each with their own unique character.</p>

<p>This differentiation is reinforced through grade-specific interior colour schemes, and varying treatments to numerous exterior and interior elements, including the lower grille, alloy wheels, seats, centre console, instrument panel, and steering wheel inserts. For instance, diverse treatments of the lower grille and the grille surround inserts will identify the different model grades: the Yaris Hybrid will feature a piano black grille with satin chrome surround, reflecting its high-tech credentials.</p>

<p>High equipment levels feature throughout the grade structure, with a leather steering wheel, air-conditioning and the Toyota Touch 2 multimedia system fitted as standard from Active grade. A comprehensive range of optional equipment includes Toyota Touch 2 with Go, an enhanced, full map navigation system with online connectivity.</p>

<p>In addition to the conventional vertical range structure, the choice of trim finishes has been extended horizontally with the arrival of two additional grades. A dynamic Style grade features special 16-inch alloy wheels, a unique, square mesh radiator grille pattern and optional Red pack interior highlighting.</p>

<p>Focusing on comfort and quality of life onboard, the Lounge grade is differentiated by 15-inch alloy wheels, chrome inserts surrounding a black radiator grille and optional Light Brown interior trim for a warmer and softer appearance.</p>

<p>Though the 2014 Yaris range now offers closer styling unity, subtle differences still allow the range-topping Hybrid grade to stand out. It features a unique front and rear LED lighting signature, a piano black radiator grille and specially-designed 15- or 16-inch alloy wheels. A high-tech interior is finished in a blend of black and grey, with blue instrument back-lighting and partial Alcantara&reg; upholstery.</p>

<p><strong>Widest Powertrain Choice in the B-Segment</strong></p>

<p>The new Yaris offers a choice of four powertrains: two petrol, one diesel and one hybrid. The comprehensively improved 3-cylinder 1.0 petrol unit is the first member of a new family of 14 highly thermally efficient engines to be launched globally by 2015.</p>

<p>Alternating between the Atkinson and Otto cycles for the optimum combination of fuel efficiency and performance, the 1.0 litre unit's exceptional thermal efficiency of 37% means that it now boasts a combined-cycle fuel consumption of 4.1 l/100 km and CO2 emissions reduced to 95 g/km.</p>

<p>1.33 petrol and 1.4 diesel engines have benefited from modifications aimed at reducing noise and vibration. Mated to 6-speed manual gearboxes, they both enable the Yaris to reach a top speed of 175 km/h with fuel consumption in the combined cycle of 4.8 l/100 km for the 1.33 petrol version and 3.8 l/100 km for the 1.4 D-4D. The 1.33 petrol unit is available with a continuously variable Multidrive transmission.</p>

<p>The Yaris Hybrid is powered by a 4-cylinder Atkinson-cycle 1,497cc engine. This hybrid powertrain has also been revamped. In order to further reduce internal friction, the valve lifters have been coated with a diamond like carbon (DLC) material. In addition, the software of the Hybrid system has evolved in order to improve energy recovery. As a result, the Yaris Hybrid's CO2 emissions and combined cycle fuel consumption are still further reduced to 75 g/km and 3.3 l/100 km respectively.</p>

<p><strong>Improved Driving Pleasure</strong></p>

<p>The 2014 Yaris features comprehensive, customer feedback-driven improvements to its ride comfort and handling, with a significant reduction in Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH).</p>

<p>A more rigid upper and lower body structure offers a more direct and linear response to steering inputs, allowing a more comfortable ride whilst maintaining balanced body control.</p>

<p>The rear suspension has been redesigned to incorporate a new, stiffer torsion beam. Combined with softer coil springs, this improves ride comfort whilst maintaining good body roll control. The front suspension also features softer coil springs for greater ride comfort, whilst the introduction of rebound springs within the shock absorbers increases front anti-roll stiffness, improving handling and reducing body roll during cornering.</p>

<p>In addition, new front and rear shock absorber valve technology reduces the transmission of vibrations from the road surface and further improves the new Yaris' ride quality without compromising its handling agility.</p>

<p>New electric power steering control logic takes advantage of these bodyshell stiffness and suspension enhancements to offer customers significantly improved steering feel, responsiveness and accuracy for a more engaging driving experience.</p>

<p>The 2014 Yaris also benefits from a marked reduction in interior noise levels through three key measures: the reduction of high frequency noise from the engine and the road surface the reduction of low frequency noise from the engine and the reduction of wind noise during high speed driving.</p>

<p><strong>Yaris Success Boosted by Hybrid Technology</strong></p>

<p>Europe is the world's fastest growing hybrid market. Sales increased by 34% in 2013, with the region accounting for 12% of total global hybrid sales.</p>

<p>Over the same period, European sales of Toyota hybrids have risen by some 43%, and 1 in 5 of all Toyota passenger vehicles sold is now a hybrid.</p>

<p>The Yaris Hybrid sold almost 50,000 units in 2013, and now accounts for 31% of total Yaris sales in Western Europe. It is the best-selling alternative powertrain in the B-segment, and the second-best-selling car in the entire European alternative powertrain market (EV, Hybrid and PHV) just behind the Toyota Auris Hybrid.</p>

<p>Toyota's hybrid powertrain offers customers a uniquely smooth, quiet and entirely intuitive driving experience. It delivers strong, seamless acceleration from a standstill and, under electric motor power alone, near-silent running with zero CO<sub>2</sub>, NOx and particulate emissions.</p>

<p>Through these attributes, all Toyota hybrids not only generate significantly stronger brand loyalty than petrol or diesel powertrains, but also consistently instil greater loyalty to hybrid powertrains themselves than any other manufacturer.</p>

<p>With rival hybrids only now entering diverse market segments, Toyota's early investment in this technology has enabled it to sustain a clear lead in alternative powertrain technology. The limited trials, which aim to gauge the effectiveness of the electric vehicle in everyday situations in urban areas, will run from March 24 through early June.</strong></p>

<p>The i-Road offers a novel riding experience, combining the convenience of a motorcycle with the comfort and stability of a car. The i-Road to be used in the consumer trial in Tokyo is based on the model shown as a concept at the 43rd Tokyo Motor Show 2013, but is now available in five colors and features improved visibility, ease-of-use and maneuverability.</p>

<p>Toyota will provide ten vehicles to approximately 20 test participants, ranging from members of the general public to trend and industry experts. Feedback will be collected concerning driving feel, user satisfaction, ease-of-use in urban areas, and impact on destination choices.</p>

<p>In addition to the upcoming trial in Tokyo, the i-Road has been trialed on public roads in Toyota City since early March as part of "Ha:mo"<sup>1</sup>, Toyota's urban traffic system created to explore the possibility of realizing a low-carbon society in which mobility is enhanced by technology. Toyota will continue to conduct research into ultra-compact electric vehicles for optimal short-distance travel within urban areas.</p>
