An icon of Toyota Quality, Durability and Reliability, it has taken all challenges in its stride.

There are new horizons to explore, however. The all-new, ninth generation Hilux breaks fresh ground in technology and design while retaining the exceptional performance capabilities that have long made it a leading player in the European pick-up market and the top seller in the Toyota Professional light commercial line-up.

Hilux adopts a Double Cab body style and all-wheel drive across the board – 4WD for the Hybrid 48V and permanent all-wheel drive for the BEV - reflecting customer preference. While retaining similar packaging and dimensions to its predecessor, it presents powerful new styling with a Tough x Agile design concept. The all-new cabin provides sensory quality, comfort and equipment specifications beyond anything previously offered in a Hilux. There is a focus on practicality, too, with 4WD controls – including new Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) and Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM) on higher grades – centrally grouped to be easily accessible when driving off-road.

TOYOTA MULTIPATH STRATEGY IN ACTION

The range of powertrains demonstrates the scope of Toyota’s multipath strategy. This product approach gives customers different options appropriate for their needs and their access to energy sources and infrastructure, helping them make meaningful and sustainable reductions in emissions towards the goal of carbon neutrality.

The 2026 line-up includes:

Hilux BEV, Toyota’s first body-on-frame vehicle to use a battery electric powertrain, addressing the growing requirements for zero-emission performance, while retaining the essential strength and quality that define Hilux.

Hilux 2.8 Hybrid 48V, featuring Toyota’s diesel mild hybrid powertrain.

Hilux ICE, with a new 2.8-litre diesel (replacing the previous 2.4-litre unit) and the established 2.7-litre petrol engine, to be launched in Eastern European markets.

Moreover, Toyota has confirmed that the Hilux range will be further extended to include a hydrogen fuel cell model, reinforcing the model’s multipath powertrain profile and Toyota’s commitment to developing clean energy solutions. The fuel cell Hilux is expected to be launched in 2028.

With the planned introduction of Hilux FCEV, Hilux will offer more powertrain choices than any other Toyota model currently on the market.

TOUGH X AGILE EXTERIOR DESIGN

All-new frontal design expresses strength and agility

New wheel designs and wider choice of paint colours

Dimensions and packaging aligned with the previous model

The design of the all-new Hilux – both inside and out – marks a step up from the previous generation, giving the model new proportions and an unmistakeable identity.

Working to a Tough x Agile design concept, Toyota has produced a bold and commanding look that expresses both the model’s rugged performance heritage and more dynamic, contemporary appeal.

The frontal treatment makes an immediate impact with slim new headlight units linked by a central bar bearing the TOYOTA name in classic style. Below, the grille has a distinctive, modern look with a wide hexagonal mesh pattern, finished in the vehicle’s body colour to create a fully integrated impression. Strong angular detailing can also be seen in the fog lamp bezels, the arching of the upper bumper, the wheel arch trims, the side step tread surface and the alloy wheel designs.

The design takes convenience and the needs of both professional and private users into account as well, including new rear side steps, wider side steps and a revised rear step for easier access to the load area.

The Hybrid 48V line-up comprises four equipment grades: Entry, Mid, High and the range-topping Invincible. For the Hilux BEV the choices at launch are Entry, Mid and High. The new alloy wheel designs are 17-inch rims finished in matt black for Mid-grade, 18-inch with diamond-cut sections over gloss back spokes for High grade and 18-inch black seven-spoke wheels for the Invincible. These are styled for aerodynamic efficiency and are lightweight, saving about 1 kg per wheel compared to the previous designs. New tyre patterns have also been introduced that give quieter performance. The BEV uses aero-tuned, directional 17-inch wheels with premium diamond-cut facets.

To give Hilux more individuality, the Hybrid 48V is available with eight exterior colour options, including new Sulphur metallic – the signature finish for the top-of-the-range Invincible model – and Storm Grey. At launch, the Hilux BEV offers three body colour choices.

The all-new Hilux's packaging closely matches that of the previous generation. Principal exterior dimensions for the Hybrid 48V are: overall length 5,320 mm, overall width 1,855–1,885 mm (depending on grade; wider on Mid-grade and above due to overfenders), overall height 1,865 mm, and wheelbase 3,085 mm. The Hilux BEV shares the same length and wheelbase, with a fixed overall width of 1,855 mm and a slightly lower 1,845 mm overall height.

ALL-NEW INTERIOR WITH UNPRECEDENTED QUALITY AND COMFORT

Complete revision of the Double Cab interior, raising all-round quality, comfort and equipment levels

Styling influenced by the interior of the new Toyota Land Cruiser, creating a family feel

New slimline horizontal instrument panel and enlarged, multi-function centre console

4WD controls rationally grouped together in the centre console for easy access

Smart cabin storage points and cool box

Digital user experience with new 12.3-inch Toyota Smart Connect multimedia display and 12.3-inch driver’s combimeter

The Double Cab interior is completely new and follows the same Tough x Agile design principle as the exterior. In the most significant upgrade in Hilux’s history, sensory quality has been taken to a higher level. The overall look and feel of the space are influenced by the new Land Cruiser, creating family feeling between the two global legends of Toyota body-on-frame engineering.

Measures to raise the level of onboard comfort include a new padding material and a thicker upholstery covering for the front seat cushions. The eight-way power adjustable seats on higher grade models have a longer cushion section and feature new padding with superior pressure distribution quality. A new head rest design provides enhanced protection against whiplash injury in the event of a rear-end collision.

The central feature is a slim and lightweight new instrument panel, finished (on higher grade models) in a premium, hard-wearing synthetic leather with single-stitch detailing. It houses a larger, high definition 12.3-inch Toyota Smart Connect multimedia display, positioned immediately above the air conditioning control panel. The Entry grade model features a nine-inch Toyota Touch 3 display.

The driver enjoys an improved forward view with a lower meter hood, above a digital combimeter – 12.3 or seven-inch according to equipment grade – offering greater functionality and versatility compared to the previous 4.2-inch muti-information display.

The new 12.3-inchcombimeter can be customised to suit driver preference with Casual, Smart, Tough or Sporty design themes and three layouts with one, two or three dials. Smart, Tough and Sporty options are available with the seven-inch version.

Easy smartphone integration is enabled on all Hilux versions with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto and a wireless charger is provided on higher grades.

Smart storage

The instrument panel houses both a locking glove box and an upper cooled box, large enough to hold two 600ml drink bottles. There are also new-design cupholders on the left and right side with a fully flat lid that opens with a simple push-rotate action and can safely hold a drinks bottle or medium-size coffee cup.

Multi-function centre console

The new centre console is wider and, on higher grade models, 35 mm taller, matching the height of the door arm rest thanks to an increase in the height of the console storage box lid. The lid is also longer so that it can serve as a comfortable arm and elbow rest for people of all body sizes. The size of the storage box itself has increased to 5.7 litres.

A 4WD control area beneath the air conditioning panel groups all the 4WD system switches together for quick, clear operation when driving off-road. Similarly, a separate section lower on the console accommodates shift selector – a new shift-by-wire control for the BEV – electronic parking brake (where fitted) and other drive control switches.

Two USB-C ports are provided in the centre console for device charging and connection. On higher grade models, there is a front wireless smartphone charger and two further USB ports for rear seat passengers.

New-design steering wheel

The steering wheel is a permanent point of contact between driver and car, so Toyota has refined the design with a focus on providing the most comfortable grip and control, introducing thinner spokes and heating that extends around the entire circumference.

Reflecting the Tough x Agile design theme, the centre boss has a new bezel and prominent TOYOTA emblem. The steering wheel switches have also been redesigned and grouped for intuitive use – infotainment functions to the left, driving assistance features to the right and audio controls to the bottom.

HILUX HYBRID 48V

Toyota’s Hybrid 48V system the principal powertrain for the all-new Hilux

Diesel mild hybrid provides quieter and smoother acceleration and stop-start performance

Electric Power Steering (EPS) adopted for the first time in Europe

Maximum power remains 204 DIN hp / 150 kW with 500 Nm peak torque

Hilux also retains its impressive load-carrying capability – payload in excess of 1,000 kg and 3,500 kg towing capacity – and exceptional off-road strength

Off-road performance supported by availability of new Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) system and Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM) systems

Toyota’s Hybrid 48V powertrain was introduced in the eighth generation Hilux in 2025. Carried forward into the all-new Hilux, it is newly available in all equipment grades – Entry, Mid, High and Invincible – securing a wider market reach with entry-level customers also able to enjoy its technology and performance benefits. It fulfils a wide range of customer requirements, from dependable, powerful workhorse to comfortable and well-equipped transport for day-to-day and leisure use.

Performance and efficiency

The Hybrid 48V’s performance parameters are largely unchanged and delivers improved fuel economy and lower emissions compared to the previous 2.8 diesel. Fuel economy is 9.7-10.0 l/100 km and CO2 emissions are rated at 254-262 g/km (WLTP combined data).

The DOHC 16-valve unit generates a maximum 204 DIN hp / 150 kW at 3,400 rom and produces 500 Nm of torque between 1,600 and 2,800 rpm. Payload is in excess of 1,000 kg and the towing capacity for braked trailers is 3,500 kg.

The mild hybrid system combines Hilux’s well-proven 2.8-litre diesel engine with an electric motor-generator, a 48V lithium-ion battery (housed beneath the rear seats) and a DC-DC power converter. The hybrid components were designed for simple integration and are located so they do not affect Hilux’s off-road performance. For example, the motor-generator is positioned high on the engine, so a 700 mm wading capability is maintained. Likewise, the motor-generator’s drive belt has a fabric layer that absorbs water and maintains consistent tension, even when wet.

The compact electric motor-generator is driven by the engine and charges the hybrid battery. Its benefits include a regenerative braking function recovering energy when the driver comes off the accelerator pedal. Combined with engine braking, this saves fuel, makes driving easier and gives natural-feeling deceleration.

The motor-generator’s operating status is indicated in the driver’s multi-information display with a read-out showing CHG (energy regeneration), ECO and PWR (providing assistance to the engine in both cases).

The stop-start system delivers a more comfortable drive in traffic, with the 48V Hybrid system enabling quicker and quieter restart response.

The electric motor-generator operates in place of a conventional starter motor and is always connected which means restart is enabled even at high engine speeds and there is less delay in immediate restarts after stopping. Progress is also smoother when travelling off-road, over rough ground.

Electric Power Steering (EPS)

The introduction of Electric Power Steering (EPS) provides faithful response, easier manoeuvring on and off-road and less risk of kick-back when driving over rough surfaces. It is tuned for light steering feel for agile manoeuvring at low speeds with increased weighting for stable and less fatiguing performance at high speeds.

Compared to the previous hydraulic system, the EPS is energy-efficient, using electric power only when turning assistance is needed, not when the vehicle is idling or moving in a straight line, further enhancing fuel economy.

Strengthened frame

To maintain the highest crash safety standards, the Hilux’s frame has been developed to provide an even higher level of energy absorption and deformation in the event of an impact, taking the increase in the vehicle’s weight into account. The thickness of the side rails has been increased and the front crossmembers have been adjusted to accommodate the new EPS system and front differential installation. With the increase in front axle load, the suspension towers have an additional fitting point and a thicker body.

Suspension

The all-new Hilux retains its suspension set-up from the previous generation, with independent front suspension front double wishbones front MacPherson struts and a rigid rear axle with leaf springs. Adjustments have been made to maintain strength and durability with the increase axle load, including revised shock absorber damping force and tuning of the leaf springs to reduce the transmission of shock to the body.

At the front, details include new spring rates, increased anti-roll bar rigidity, reshaped lower arms and a new compound has been for the bushes.

Ride comfort

While Hilux is rugged by nature, ride comfort remains a priority. There are new mounts for the engine and cabin which have multi-directional flexibility compared to the previous type.

Extra spot-weld points have been added – an extra 30 in the front floor and six more in the rear floor – to reduce vibration, achieve better damping and enhance the vehicle’s responsiveness.

Braking

For the first time, Hilux is equipped with an electronic parking brake, available on Mid-grade and above and standard on the BEV. This lightweight unit adds to the quality feel of the interior design while also contributing to fuel economy. Its adoption allows for the provision of new Toyota Safety Sense functions, including the Emergency Driving Stop System (EDSS) (further details in the safety and driving assistance chapter below).

The braking system features a new actuator which improves its controllability and durability and is compatible with operation of the Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) and Downhill Assist Control (DAC) systems.

Off-road performance

Exceptional, reliable off-road performance is a defining characteristic of the Hilux brand; and the ninth-generation model is true to that heritage.

Its ability to tackle the toughest conditions is supported by a 309 mm ground clearance and 500 mm of wheel articulation. When navigating slopes, the approach angle is 29° and the departure angle 24°.

Not only can Hilux wade through water 700 mm deep, it can also be kept stationary in those conditions for up to 10 minutes.

Secure progress with Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) and Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM)

According to equipment grade, the Hilux Hybrid 48V is equipped with the Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) system. This gives the driver a choice of up to five modes to adapt the vehicle’s performance to suit different off-road environments, working in conjunction with the all-wheel drive transmission’s H4 and L4 high and low ranges. An adapted MTS is also provided on the Hilux BEV, details in the BEV chapter below.

Dirt: when driving on unpaved roads, vehicle speed and stability are the same as on paved surfaces. The system provides suitable tyre-ground contact feel on undulating or uneven road surfaces and appropriate driving force, even when towing.

Sand: in H4 range, this mode prevents delivery of excessive drive force, to avoid the vehicle becoming stuck, while still providing enough drive for cruising. In L4 range, higher driving force is provided should the vehicle become stuck, or the sandy surface gives a high level of resistance.

Mud: in this mode the wheels spin to help progress on muddy roads with very low grip levels. Higher driving force is provided in L4 range when the mud is deep enough to cover the tyres.

Deep Snow: this mode can be used when making forward and reverse movements to tackle high snow bumps. When the snow is deep enough to cover the tyres, the system spins the wheels to create a snowplough effect. Moderate drive force is provided when starting off to prevent wheel spin. This mode is not intended for use when driving on packed snow road surfaces.

Rock: this mode is suitable for driving over harsh, rocky terrain, suppressing tyre slippage. Should only two tyres be in contact with the ground, the system will transmit drive force to the other two wheels while simultaneously controlling vehicle speed.

Auto: this automatically engages settings appropriate for the driving surface and conditions.

Safe manoeuvring is also supported by the Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM). Standard on the Hybrid 48V Invincible and optional on High grade, this uses an array of four cameras to provide a real-time 360-degree view of the area immediately around the vehicle. It can also provide an image of the ground beneath the vehicle, indicating the tyre position and path of travel. The driver can also zoom in on the image to obtain a more detailed understanding of the driving surface – particularly useful when navigating through rocks and boulders.

The images are supported by icons linked to the Hilux’s clearance sonars, which turn read when there is a risk of contact. There are also graphics representing each wheel; these will flash when an individual wheel is spinning. Further assistance is provided by an inclinometer, with separate views showing the vehicle’s pitch and roll angles.

A Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) is also available on selected equipment grades to help with precise manoeuvring in tight parking places.

HILUX BEV: A BREAKTHROUGH MODEL

The first all-electric model is an authentic Hilux, with designed-in Quality, Durability and Reliability and genuine off-road capabilities

Permanent all-wheel drive with efficient, lightweight front and rear eAxles that produce high torque

High-capacity lithium-ion battery house within the vehicle’s frame, protected from damage and avoiding any loss of cabin or load space

Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) system programmed for use in a BEV powertrain, adapting vehicle performance to suit different off-road conditions

A technical breakthrough

The BEV model is an integral part of the all-new ninth generation Hilux range, giving customers the option to enjoy the model’s exceptional Quality, Durability and Reliability with the critical benefit of zero tailpipe emissions. It is an authentic Hilux, powered by electricity.

It will enter a new and developing market for electric pick-ups, appealing primarily to businesses seeking to decarbonise their vehicle fleet and comply with increasingly stringent legislation while still enjoying rugged, reliable performance. Hilux BEV will be particularly suited to single-location operations, such as forestry, industrial complexes and infrastructure sites such as airports and ferry terminals. The model will also attract individual buyers – both small businesses and private buyers focused on leisure use.

Accommodating the new powertrain is not at the cost of Hilux’s ability to operate in the most challenging environments, nor the space inside the cabin and load bay. Off-road performance maintains the model’s reputation as a trusted partner that can take challenging terrain in its stride.

This is Toyota’s first use of BEV technology in a body-on-frame vehicle, a construction type that has been key to Hilux’s built-in strength and capabilities from the start. Moreover, this has been achieved without diluting the pick-up’s off-road prowess – for example, the exceptional 700 mm wading depth is equal to the capability of Hilux Hybrid 48V and ICE models.

There is a further breakthrough with the first application of Toyota’s Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) System in a BEV, which automatically adapts vehicle performance to suit different off-road conditions, from rock, sand and mud to dirt and – another BEV first – bumpy mogul surfaces.

Powertrain: energy-efficient eAxles

The powertrain comprises front and rear eAxles that combine an electric transaxle and inverter in a single compact and lightweight unit. They are engineered for optimum efficiency with detailed measures to reduce internal losses and energy lost as heat. To accommodate the eAxles, a new-design front crossmember and an additional rear crossmember have been added to the Hilux’s frame. The eAxles themselves are reinforced and fitted with undercovers to ensure they can withstand harsh off-road conditions. This strengthens the BEV’s profile as a capable vehicle for work duties, true to Hilux’s famous Quality, Durability and Reliability.

The inverter uses silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductors which can handle high voltages and are more efficient (up to 40%) than the traditional silicon type. The front eAxle produces 80 kW and 205 Nm of torque and the rear unit 128 kW 268 Nm, ensuring strong traction and control, particularly in demanding off-road conditions.

As the eAxles generate instant high torque, even at low speed, they are installed with high-stiffness mounts to ensure quietness, ride comfort and stability.

Permanent all-wheel drive (AWD)

The permanent all-wheel drive (AWD) system provides constant and precise control of drive torque delivery between the front and rear axles, in ratios from 100:0 and 0:100. It provides excellent acceleration at start-off and stable handling. When driving through bends, it supports a smooth change in direction on entry with clear steering feedback, with confident line tracing and acceleration in exiting.

New lithium-ion battery

The new battery has been designed specifically for installation within the Hilux’s frame. It is a 59.2 kWh water-cooled lithium-ion unit comprising 80 cells, arranged in five 16-cell modules in 5 modules. The battery’s location required a bespoke unit to be designed, but the length of the space allowed for the necessary number of modules to be housed.

Its operating temperature is controlled using a high-resistance, long-life coolant (LLC) which helps protect against corrosion and is resistant to conductivity – an important characteristic in high-voltage systems.

Robust battery protection for off-road driving

The requirement for the new Hilux BEV to be able tackle challenging off-road conditions called for specific measures to protect the battery from damage. A key consideration was the risk posed by excessive twisting forces in the frame when travelling over rough ground. Toyota met this challenge by designing flexibility into the frame and creating a new battery sub-frame that prevents the battery from being affected by torsional forces. The battery is attached to the low torsion area of the subframe by a patented diamond pattern of fastenings.

The battery is further protected by being located within the vehicle’s frame and by a robust undercover. The frame’s side rails are reinforced with aluminium impact-absorbing sections that provide extra protection in the event of a collision.

CAE simulations and physical testing were used to optimise the battery’s location, ensuring a perfect fit within the frame. The battery’s position helps secure a low centre of gravity, which in turn supports good stability and handling. The installation avoids intrusion in the Double Cab’s interior and load space.

Battery charging

Prompt, consistent charging performance is a key consideration for business customers who need to keep their vehicle’s downtime to a minimum. The Hilux BEV can be charged from 10 – 80% capacity within 30 minutes using a DC fast-charging system of 125 kW or more and CCS2 connection, subject to operating conditions such as the ambient temperature.

AC charging up to 10 kW, for example using a domestic or public wallbox, will deliver a 10 – 100% charge in around 6.5 hours.

Owners can programme smart charging for their Hilux, setting charging start times to suit their work timetable and personal preference, or to take advantage of lower-cost electricity during off-peak periods. They can also set a charging limit of between 50 and 90%.

The driving range is up to 257 km (WLTP combined) and up to 380 km on the city cycle, distances that amply cover the day-to-day requirements of the model’s target business customers, particularly for site-specific work such infrastructure installations and forestry.

QDR: designed-in and tested to the limit

Quality, Durability and Reliability – QDR – have been fundamental to Hilux’s enduring success and global reputation across successive model generations. Toyota’s prime concern was that the new BEV should maintain these essential characteristics and be an authentic Hilux, true to the model’s best traditions.

Thus, the BEV underwent the same rigorous testing programme as other models in the new Hilux range, together with additional tests specific to its electric powertrain. These included deep-water driving to confirm the pick-up’s 700 mm wading depth; high-speed water intrusion checks; off-road durability trials; and total immersion of the battery. To help safeguard against water entering the electric motor, the eAxle breather is set high up on the unit.

With the benefit of these tests, customers are assured Hilux’s essential QDR has not been sacrificed or compromised and their vehicle can be relied on – like any Hilux – to serve as a trusted and highly capable partner.

Electric power steering (EPS)

The Hilux BEV aligns with its mild hybrid sister model in adopting an electric power steering system (EPS, details above),

As with the Hybrid 48V, the BEV’s steering wheel has tilt and telescopic adjustment to help drivers achieve the most comfortable position.

Suspension: a new de Dion rear axle

Traditionally, a practical pick-up requires a rigid rear axle so there are minimal changes in alignment when the vehicle is loaded, combined with leaf springs that can maintain a stable ride height.

Introducing a battery electric powertrain into the equation created new challenges. Using a propshaft to the rear axle would compromise the size of the battery and thus the vehicle’s driving range; and locating a large rear motor in the space usually occupied by the rear differential would compromise ground clearance and increase the unspring mass, impacting ride comfort and handling stability

Toyota solution is a de Dion rigid axle with leaf springs. This allows the eAxle to be accommodated without risking damage or compromising the pick-up’s ability to tackle very rough terrain. As the eAxle can be mounted on the vehicle’s frame, there is a further benefit in a reduction in the unsprung mass.

Authentic off-road capabilities

From the outset, it was a requirement that the Hilux BEV’s off-road performance should be comparable to those of other models in the ninth generation series, ensuring the vehicle could meet a wide range of customer requirements.

To do this, it was critical to engineer a rigid rear structure that can withstand challenging conditions. Additional crossmembers were added to the frame and others reprofiled to accommodate the new rear eAxle, together with the introduction of the new de Dion rigid rear axle (details above).

The BEV’s 29° approach and 24° departure angles, 500 mm wheel articulation and 700 mm wading depth are values similar to those of other ninth generation Hilux models. There is a lowering of ground clearance to 212 mm and a modest reduction in break-over angle to 20°, due to the location of the battery beneath the vehicle floor.

Ready for all roads with Multi-Terrain Select (MTS)

Hilux is the first Toyota BEV to be equipped with Multi-Terrain Select (MTS), a five-mode electronic control system that automatically adjusts vehicle performance to suit different off-road driving scenarios.

In vehicles that use an internal combustion engine – including the new Hilux Hybrid 48V –MTS can be selected when using the L4 and H4 ranges to secure steady progress in challenging conditions. In the Hilux BEV, the system applies precise, direct control of drive torque and braking, replicating the effect of using a low range transmission. It underwent extensive real-world testing on different off-road terrains to ensure customers can use it with confidence in a wide range of operating environments.

In common with the standard MTS, the driver can choose settings appropriate for different surfaces:

Rock, for trails and climbs with large boulders and stones

Sand, for beaches, desert trails and loose sandy surfaces

Mud, for wet and mushy tracks and fields

Dirt, for dirt roads and gravel tracks

Mogul, for bumpy terrain – offered for the first time in a BEV

MTS also provides an automatic mode with which the system adopts the most suitable setting according to vehicle behaviour and driver inputs.

Practical for business

An essential quality for any Hilux is to be a practical and reliable proposition for business users, so the introduction of an electric powertrain could not be at the expense of day-to-day practicality.

The load space is equal to that of the mild hybrid model and the payload is 710-715 kg, according to model grade. This figure was calculated to offer the best balance of driving range, power and practical usability, based on Toyota’s extensive evaluation of BEV customer requirements.

Towing ability was factored in from the start of the development programme: the Hilux BEV can tow up to 1,600 kg, ensuring that it is capable of handling trailers, equipment or leisure loads with confidence.

BEV design details

The BEV shares the ninth generation Hilux’s bold, powerful exterior Tough x Agile design, styling that communicates its strength and robust performance.

Externally some elements denote the difference in powertrain. Most prominent is the absence of the front grille – a characteristic of technically advanced electric vehicles which require less cooling air flow. The area beneath the bonnet and TOYOTA emblem instead has a raised geometric pattern that adds texture and distinctive visual interest.

The 17-inch wheels are also specific to the model, lightweight and aero-tuned with a directional design to manage air flow with premium diamond-cut facets around the circumference. Simulations and wind tunnel testing optimised the design for efficiency at all speeds. Elsewhere, the wheel arch mouldings are removed, there is BEV badging on the tailgate and a charging port on the front wing.

The Double Cab interior is also common to the Hilux range, with the exception of the centre console, which is slightly adapted to accommodate the BEV’s smooth, single-action shift-by-wire control and repositioned electronic parking brake switches.

Digital combimeter

The 12.3-inch driver’s digital combimeter offers the same flexibility as that in the Hybrid 48V, with four design options – Casual, Smart, Tough and Sporty. The driver can choose from three layouts, displaying two, one or no dials; widgets can also be added to show electricity consumption and audio information. Settings and content can be changed at any time with ease, using switches on the steering wheel.

TOYOTA T-MATE SAFETY AND DRIVER ASSISTANCE

Hilux equipped with its most comprehensive safety and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) package yet

Third-generation Toyota Safety Sense provided as standard

New functions enabled by the introduction of Electric Power Steering (EPS)

Driver assistance systems include a Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), Safe Exit Assist (SEA) and Parking Support Brake (PKSB)

The all-new Hilux benefits from a wider range TOYOTA T-Mate safety and ADAS features than ever before, including the introduction of third-generation Toyota Safety Sense. Safety systems can be updated over time are kept out-to-date with the seamless delivery of software updates over the air, via the vehicle’s Data Communications module.

Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) is featured for the first time on Hilux, thanks to its adoption of an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system. This provides steering assistance to keep the vehicle centred in its traffic lane; it can also recognise when an off-set driving path is appropriate, for example when passing vehicles parked at the side of the road.

The operating scope of the Pre-Collision System (PCS) is enhanced with the ability to detect motorcycles as well as vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and oncoming vehicles. Its intersection collision avoidance support also provides greater support with detection of crossing vehicles at junctions.

Emergency Steering Assist (ESA) is featured in Hilux for the first time, enabled by the introduction of electric power steering. When the PCS recognises a hazard such a person walking in the side of the road, a cyclist or parked vehicle and there is a risk the driver may swerve in avoidance, steering assistance and gentle braking are provided, helping the driver manoeuvre safely while keeping the car within its traffic lane.

The Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control (iACC) is newly able to detect two vehicles ahead for smoother speed management and respond more promptly to a vehicle cutting in front, so braking is less abrupt. It can also suppress the Hilux’s acceleration to avoid unintentional “undertaking” of another vehicle in an adjacent lane. Turn signal-linked control initiates preliminary acceleration when the driver uses the turn indicator to make an overtaking manoeuvre; acceleration is automatically suppressed, however, if the system detects another vehicle in the overtaking lane. The iACC DRC also has improved curve recognition, giving better speed management through bends. With the upgraded system, the driver can now choose from four distance setting options.

Acceleration Suppression regulates the car’s drive force and controls braking if the driver accelerates sharply with an obstacle immediately ahead.

Thanks to the introduction of an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) and Driver Monitor Camera (DMC), Hilux can be equipped with a new Emergency Driving Stop System (EDSS). EDSS monitors the driver’s steering, braking and use of the accelerator and if there are no inputs over a period of time, it triggers a warning. If there is still no response from the driver, it brings the vehicle to a smooth stop and activates the hazard lights.

With the benefit of Electric Power Steering (EPS), Lane Trace Assist (LTA) is also enabled.

The new Proactive Driving Assist (PDA) provides a range of safeguards in low-speed traffic. Obstacle Anticipation Assist detects hazards ahead such as parked vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists at an early stage and provides steering a braking support to help the driver avoid approaching too close. Deceleration Assist provides smooth slowing when the driver comes off the accelerator when approaching a slower vehicle ahead, or when entering a bend.

In addition to these Toyota Safety Sense active safety features, Hilux is also equipped for the first time with a Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) and Safe Exit Assist (SEA), alerting the driver to traffic approaching from behind and warning if there is a risk of opening a door into the path of passing traffic.

Automatic Flashing Rear Hazard Lights are activated if the Hilux’s rear-facing radar detects a collision risk from vehicles approaching at speed from the rear, prompting the other driver to brake. Similarly, the Rear Vehicle Approaching Indication alerts the driver to decide whether to change lane. This supports safer lane discipline and less stressful driving and helps prevent tailgating.

The Parking Support Brake (PKSB) can prevent the vehicle from striking static objects to the front and rear when moving at low speed, control the car’s drive and applying the brake if needed to avoid an impact.

The new Rear Seat Reminder System will alert the driver if sensors detect movement on the back seats, for example when a child or pet animal has been left in the vehicle.

OWNERSHIP WITH PEACE OF MIND

Toyota Relax warranty available for up to 10 years / 185,000 km

Battery Care Programme guarantees battery performance for up to 10 years / one million km

Remote and connected services via the MyToyota app

Toyota Relax

In common with all Toyota vehicles, the all-new Hilux is protected by a warranty of up to 10 years or 185,000 km – whichever comes first. The first three years of ownership are covered by a manufacturer’s warranty. This is followed by a service-activated warranty, providing an additional 12 months’ / 15,000 km cover up to maximum of 10 years of vehicle age or 185,000 kilometres driven, at no additional cost, each time the vehicle has a qualifying service at an authorised Toyota centre (terms and conditions apply).

Battery Care Programme

Confidence in lasting battery quality and performance is a key consideration for BEV owners. Toyota’s Battery Care Programme provides complete reassurance. It guarantees the vehicle’s traction battery will retain a minimum of 70% of its original capacity for up to 10 years or one million kilometres, subject to annual EV health check at an authorised Toyota centre. This seal of quality applies equally to the rugged new Hilux BEV as to other Toyota battery electric models.

MyToyota app

With the MyToyota app, Hilux owners can access a range of useful remote and connected services. These include locking or unlocking the doors, checking the vehicle’s status and activating the air conditioning system to heat or cool the cabin to a preferred temperature before making a journey. The app also provides a vehicle locating function and the owner can trigger the hazard lights to help find their Hilux in a busy car park.

MyToyota can also provide key driving data at-a-glance and provide timely reminders when servicing is required.

*Vehicles driven on designated, authorized routes only.

2024 hilux,2024 hilux 48V,2026 hilux,hilux,2020 hilux,2016 hilux

Visitors will have the first opportunity to take a close-up look at the ninth generation of Toyota’s legendary pick-up, a model that will break new ground with a range that includes its first battery electric powertrain.

The all-new Hilux’s introduction builds on a heritage established over more than half a century and more than 27 million global sales. Throughout its history, Hilux’s success has been founded on its core Quality, Durability and Reliability, qualities that remain central to its latest evolution.

True to its customer-centred approach, Toyota is not offering a one-size-fits-all solution. Instead, the all-new Hilux aligns with the company’s multipath philosophy to provide a choice of powertrains suited to different customer requirements and preferences, and operation in different driving conditions. Thus, the new model will be offered with two electrified powertrains: a 2.8-litre diesel engine supported by a 48V hybrid system – the option that will be the volume seller in Europe – and a battery electric version, both of which will be on display in Brussels. In selected markets, diesel and petrol combustion engines will also be available.

In line with customer preference, the all-new Hilux will be offered exclusively in double-cab format, providing a convenient combination of practical load-carrying and performance capabilities for business and a comfortable, well-equipped cabin, together with an extensive Toyota T-Mate active safety and driving assistance provisions.

The sharp new exterior design, developed on a “Tough and Agile” theme, projects fundamental strength and a powerful, contemporary look. Under the skin, the pick-up retains the body-on-frame construction concept that has underpinned its exceptional off-road performance across successive generations.

The all-new Hilux will be introduced in Europe from next April with the BEV model, followed by the Hybrid 48V version from July 2026. Further details of performance, equipment features, and local pricing will be announced in due course.

All-new Hilux with Hybrid 48V powertrain

The all-new Hilux adopts the Hybrid 48V system which was introduced in the current model earlier this year. The 2.8-litre diesel engine is supported by a 48V lithium-ion battery, giving quieter, smoother and more refined performance – qualities that are particularly noticeable when starting off and under acceleration. There are further benefits in fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions compared to the non-hybrid diesel powertrain.

The Hilux’s load-carrying capabilities are maintained: maximum payload is one tonne, and towing capacity is 3.5 tonnes. Likewise, the design and positioning of the hybrid components do not compromise the model’s “go-anywhere” ruggedness; Hilux can wade through water up to 700 mm deep. The driver is further supported in off-road conditions by the availability of a Multi-Terrain Select system that optimises vehicle performance when driving over different terrains, as well as a Multi-Terrain Monitor and Panoramic View Monitor for precise manoeuvring on challenging surfaces.

All-new Hilux BEV

The introduction of the first battery electric Hilux creates a new proposition: a version of the “unbreakable” pick-up with zero tailpipe emissions. In introducing full electric power, Toyota has ensured the qualities that define Hilux and underpin its enduring success are retained, equipping it to meet the demands of business customers who require Quality, Durability and Reliability, together with serious off-road capability, but need to operate with zero CO2.

The Hilux BEV uses a 59.2 kWh lithium-ion battery and front and rear eAxles to secure permanent all-wheel drive. The system develops 205 Nm of torque at the front axle and 268 at the rear. Final WLTP homologation data show up to 257 km of driving range in the combined cycle, and up to 380 km in the city cycle. The Hilux BEV offers 715 kg payload and 1.6-tonne towing capacity.

The model shares the same practical body-on-frame construction as other Hilux versions, with its BEV system providing smooth, effortless and silent power delivery. Optimal weight balance, electric power steering (to be standard across all Hilux models) and suspension engineering contribute to stable, secure and comfortable performance, while unique to BEV variant shift by wire technology allows for smooth gear changing.

The electric powertrain, including the battery unit, has been packaged and installed so that superior off-road performance is maintained: ground clearance is 212 mm and maximum wading depth matches other Hilux versions at 700 mm. A Multi-Terrain Select system has been developed specifically for use in a BEV, adapting braking and torque to provide enhanced control in challenging conditions.

2026 hilux,2024 hilux 48V,2024 hilux,2020 hilux,2016 hilux,2011 hilux,2007 hilux,2005 hilux

<pp:caseid>226043</pp:caseid><pp:subtitle>Dr. Johan Van Zyl, President and CEO, Toyota Motor Europe</pp:subtitle>

Good morning ladies and gentlemen, I'm pleased to welcome you to the Toyota press conference.

There are three essential elements at the heart of our products.

Quality & Reliability, Advanced Powertrain Technology with hybrid and Safety.

Speaking about quality, perhaps no model expresses it better than the Toyota Land Cruiser. With 65 years of heritage, it is synonymous with toughness and trustworthy performance in extreme environments. That's why it's known as "the only car that will take you almost anywhere and bring you back!"

I am proud to say that today it is getting even better.

Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the king of off-roaders,
The new Toyota Land Cruiser!

It is now the only vehicle in its class that uses a body-on-frame construction. That pure engineering quality defines its status as the 'king' among off-roaders. At Toyota, it is our philosophy to always make improvements. So we have developed a new Torsen locking differential for even better handling in slippery conditions.

In the cabin, we have a redesigned dashboard with superior quality trims and finishes, and even higher equipment levels. Ventilated front seats, heated rearseats, a heated windscreen and new Optitron instrumentation are just some of the features that have been added to the specification.

The lead engine is a 2.8-litre diesel that is fully compliant with the latest EU6 Step 2 emissions standards.

For Russia and other eastern markets, we will also be offering 2.7 and 4.0-litre petrol engines.

Safety is, of course, paramount. The new Land Cruiser comes with an expanded range of safety features and Toyota Safety Sense is also available.

Speaking about advanced powertrain, do you realise that it is now 20 years since Toyota started the electric revolution in the motor industry?

That is when we launched the first Prius, an electric car that doesn't have to be charged. It is interesting to see how the technology solutions we pioneered all those years ago...have today become a top priority for so many other manufacturers.

At the time, we said this hybrid car represented our vision of mobility for the 21st century. And we have been proved right! With Prius we defined a new powertrain architecture that we have constantly developed and improved.

Today, within the Toyota Group, we have 16 different hybrid vehicles on sale in Europe, making use of seven different hybrid powertrains. Worldwide, we are approaching eleven million hybrids sold, more than one-and-a- half million of these in Europe. More people than ever are making hybrid their first choice.

Our customers appreciate not just the tangible benefits it offers in terms of environmental performance and cost of ownership, but also the special driving quality it delivers, with smooth performance, silent running and a very low level of vibrations.

As a result, hybrids currently make up 40 per cent of our sales mix in total Europe and even close to 50% in Western Europe. That brings us close to our target of 50% hybrid mix in total Europe by 2020.

Hybrid is not a single solution rather a flexible powertrain architecture that can be adapted to suit different customer needs and driving scenarios.

For example, our Prius plug-in hybrid is based on our full hybrid vehicle architecture, but with a more powerful battery and with the addition of a mechanism for external charging. And by replacing the internal combustion engine of a full hybrid vehicle with a hydrogen fuel cell stack, you have a zero emission car, like our Toyota Mirai.

Even our future battery electric vehicles will be based on the same architecture, where you have an electric motor directly powered by a higher capacity battery.

With this kind of adaptability, hybrid is the backbone of our powertrain programme that will help us cut our vehicle carbon emissions by 90 per cent by 2050 compared to 2010. This is a key target within the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050, our strategy for significantly reducing the impact of our products and our business on the worldaround us.

Continuing with hybrid, we listen carefully to our customers opinions. It is not just about hearing what they like about our hybrid technology. We also want to learn from them how we can make our hybrids even more attractive to more people.

It is exactly that kind of feedback that has made us realise there is an opportunity to introduce a higher performance hybrid powertrain. I can announce today that in future it is our ambition to provide our core models with a choice of two hybrid powertrains.

One will provide the traditional benefits of efficiency and fuel economy, like in our current offer. The second will build on this and add more power and a more dynamic driving character. We will reveal more details about these plans early next year.

The prospect of a more powerful hybrid system is part of the inspiration for the new Toyota C-HR HY-POWER design study. Revealed today here in Frankfurt, it symbolises the dynamic and fun-to-drive qualities that have helped make the Toyota C-HR such an instant success for us.

The design is the work of a team at ED2, our European design studio. The aim of the designers was to give the Toyota C-HR an even more emotional, powerful look. A look that will resonate strongly with people who enjoy highly individual lifestyles.

Together with Quality and Hybrid, Safety is one of our core values. Our belief is that we should make the best technology widely available to our customers. Last year we said we would make Toyota Safety Sense available across our entire model line-up.

Today I am pleased to tell you that 92 per cent of the cars we are selling across Europe is already fitted with Toyota Safety Sense. That includes 100% of Yaris sales, in the highly cost-competitive B-segment.

Of course, the full benefits of Toyota Safety Sense will be realised as more and more cars are equipped with the technology. But already positive results are being achieved.

Our studies in Japan show that Toyota Safety Sense has reduced rear-end accidents by 50 per cent compared to vehicles not equipped with this technology. And this is not the end of the story! Our ultimate goal is zero accidents.

And the work of our Toyota Research Institute (TRI), in the areas of Artificial Intelligence and Connectivity, will support the introduction of automated driving technologies, helping us to achieve such an ultimate goal.

Has our product strategy delivered? Yes (I believe so)! In the first half of this year our European Toyota group sales are up by 11 per cent compared to 2016. And that brings our Market Share to 4.9 per cent, 0.3 percentage points more than last year.

We expect to reach the one million sales mark by the end of this year. And this growth has not been to the detriment of our profit. Our quarterly financial results show an operating profit increase of 125 per cent compared to last year.

Key drivers of this growth are the successful launch of the new Toyota C-HR,which has achieved a segment share of 11% in just 10 months, and the outstanding sales of hybrid models up by 52 per cent year-on-year!

In our core models the hybrid mix is achieving very high levels 45 per cent on Yaris, 52 per cent on RAV4, 65 per cent on Auris and an exceptional 77 per cent on Toyota C-HR!

So, how are we going to sustain our business moving forward? We will maintain our sustainable growth by making ever better cars.

Hybrid will remain our key differentiator. We will expand our (hybrid) offer with more derivatives. And we will take care of our customers with an ever stronger focus on our "customer-first" approach.

Thank you for your kind attention.

I would now like to invite Koyari san, Chief Engineer of the Land Cruiser, to join me on stage for photographs.

toyota news,2017 frankfurt,2017 yaris,2017 land cruiser,2015 auris touring sports,2017 concept c-hr hy-power,2016 hilux

2017 INTRODUCING “TOYOTA FIVE CONTINENTS DRIVE”

<pp:caseid>224420</pp:caseid><pp:subtitle>Going out on the road to make Ever-Better cars</pp:subtitle><pp:summary>
As part of President Akio Toyoda’s vision of creating Ever-Better cars, in 2014, Toyota Motor Corporation embarked on a seven-year project of unparalleled scale: a continuous global initiative to put Toyota vehicles to the ultimate test, across every possible terrain and climate on every continent worldwide.

</pp:summary>

The Five Continents Drive has been introduced to help everyone at Toyota to deliver Ever-Better cars that excite our customers and exceed their expectations. It is a long-term project that has the power to unite all of Toyota’s 340,000 members around the world.

“Roads train people, and people make cars”; that ethos has been the backbone of the Five Continents Drive project. It is about enabling engineers to get out from behind their work desks to feel the road, to experience first-hand how vehicle performance is impacted by the wide variety of driving conditions around the world and to gather new insights. By connecting with customers in a meaningful way and listening to their feedback, Toyota can better understand their needs and usage patterns.

The Five Continents Drive matches Akio Toyoda’s desire for Toyota to create cars that are fun to drive. “I wanted to change how people who work at Toyota feel through the Five Continents Drive,” he said. “If we try to create cars that will sell simply as a business, we will end up becoming a company that pursues this alone. We can’t build cars if we only take data from the test course. This is why we have to face the roads and the harsh environments in which our customers use our vehicles. The valuable information that we gain will improve the skills of our engineers and help us to create Ever-Better cars.”

INSPIRING FEEDBACK

The first two continents covered on the Five Continents Drive have been completed safely with resounding success and inspiring feedback from those who have participated. From Australia to North America and, most recently, Latin America, nearly 70,000 km of roads, some previously unchartered, have been covered in the pursuit of creating better, cleaner and safer vehicles.

The Five Continents Drive began in 2014 with an opening leg in Australia, where 80% of the most demanding types of roads on the planet can be found. The team travelled cross-country through vast and rugged terrain starting and finishing in Melbourne, home of the Toyota Motor Corporation

Australia headquarters. The expedition took in 20,000 km over 72 days and with 13 vehicles.

The Ever-Better expedition continued into North America in 2015 covering 28,000 km over 109 days with 24 vehicles from across the Toyota range. The expedition was split into two sections with a summer leg starting in Texas, and a winter itinerary venturing into the icy Canadian and Alaskan climate.

In 2016, the journey moved into Latin America, with three legs covering 20,000 km over 78 individual days and 16 different vehicles used. Divided into three parts, the opening leg covered Brazil to Paraguay, the second took in Chile, Peru and Bolivia, and the concluding part covered Argentina and Uruguay.

This year, it’s the turn of Europe. The seven-year cycle will then progress onto Africa and into Asia where the project will conclude in 2020 in Japan. That year will see Tokyo host the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Toyota is a TOP partner for the Games, providing sustainable mobility to the entire Olympic and Paralympic movement.

ENGAGING ALL SENSES TO BUILD EVER-BETTER CARS

The Five Continents Drive project is being run under the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing umbrella, as the global brand for Toyota’s motorsport operations.

Kiichiro Toyoda, the founder of Toyota, once said that motorsports are vital to the evolution of car making and the entire auto industry. This belief has been passed down over the generations and embodied most recently as TOYOTA GAZOO Racing.

It represents the company’s commitment to overcoming every limit in the pursuit of creating Ever-Better cars through motorsport. What we learn at the very limits of performance, we seek to transfer into benefits for everyday driving.

But the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing spirit goes even beyond this. Characterised by the ultimate goal of creating Ever-Better cars, the Five Continents Drive project exists to directly develop human resources by exposing participants to the most varied and challenging road conditions around the world. This experience is much more than visual; it’s about sharpening each of the senses to “feel” the roads and cars together and, as a consequence, to develop the skills to make Ever-Better cars.

ONE PASSION, ONE TEAM

By uniting Toyota team members across all continents, the project aims to increase collaboration globally. Driving in a convoy of some of Toyota’s best-loved models, the project is the ultimate test of real vehicles in the real world.

The itinerary takes in some of the most punishing terrains that each continent has to offer, visiting key Toyota facilities on the way. It’s not just going down the paths well trodden; it is about encountering the unknown, and finding new places to drive.

Expedition teams have encountered harsh roads and revived Toyota’s passion and hungry spirit. Driving distances farther than they had driven before, the teams of engineers were able to bring back the intrinsic fun of cars. Thinking about cars holistically and realising that these vehicles are built by their peers, they got a sense of how well loved Toyota cars are by their owners. It is about unity: creating Ever-Better cars that exceed customers’ ever-higher expectations irrespective of culture, values and customs.

FIVE CONTINENTS DRIVE IN EUROPE

Europe is one of the world’s most complex and progressive territories. It is as culturally diverse as it is environmentally with over 30 languages spoken.

Known as the birthplace of the automotive industry, Europe offers a totally different set of challenges and opportunities to the continents that have preceded it on this project. Europe’s unique blend of politics, history, culture and laws has shaped the driving conditions in each of its countries.

The Five Continents Drive route for Europe, which has been developed based on input from a knowledgeable group of Toyota technicians and engineers, tackles the widest cross section of the continent. All in all, more than 20 countries will be visited across two legs over a distance of 19,000 km.

The precise route has been split into two distinct periods, one specifically for the summer months and one for the more treacherous winter conditions. In doing this, the convoy can capture the complete range of climatic conditions that Europe has to offer: from the searing summer heat in Portugal to the claustrophobic humidity in urban city centres and onto the frozen wintry roads of Scandinavia.

The eight-week summer itinerary covers around 13,000 km in the western and southern countries, before arriving at the Toyota Motor Europe headquarters in Brussels, Belgium.

The route takes in some of Europe’s most iconic road types, from winding mountainous passes over roundabouts and cobblestones to narrow streets in bustling city centres and the high-speed Autobahn in Germany.

A second four-week winter expedition will take in the north and east, covering 6,000 km. Starting in Copenhagen, Denmark, it will conclude at the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Rally Team factory in Puppola, Finland.

SYMBOLIC NÜRBURGRING

The summer expedition also put vehicles to the test on the world famous and technically renowned Nürburgring circuit in Germany. Acting as the midway point in the first route, the venue plays a poignant role for Toyota through its attachment to TOYOTA GAZOO Racing.

“GAZOO Racing” first entered the Nürburgring 24 Hours in 2007. Known as the world’s most punishing racetrack, the Nürburgring is symbolic of TOYOTA GAZOO Racing, just as it marked a key point in our Five Continents Drive.

With its intense up-and-down hills and rough road conditions, Nürburgring is the only track in the world that features the same environment as the general road. It’s said that running ten laps at Nürburgring is the equivalent to traveling 800 km on public roads. It is arguably the best track in the world to test the limits of both man and machine.

The Nürburgring is known as the “Holy Land” to automobile manufacturers, many of whom conduct test drives of their vehicles. The mountain terrain is utilised well, with a 300 m difference in height and elevation of 17%.

It is precisely the track’s unique challenges that make it such a spiritual place for TOYOTA GAZOO Racing; a place where we can learn and improve.

LONG-LASTING AIMS

When the winter convoy reaches the finish line in Finland later this year, it will not mark the conclusion of the Five Continents Drive in Europe. All the valuable information, customer feedback and driving experiences gathered by the team will be shared across the organisation worldwide to move one step closer towards the company’s mission of making Ever-Better cars.

toyota news,corporate,2016 hilux,2017 frankfurt

• Europe’s best-selling pick-up

</pp:summary>

First released in 1968, and one year later throughout Europe, the legendary Toyota Hilux has been a dominant presence in the global pick-up market for nearly 50 years.

To date, the world’s favourite pick-up has recorded cumulative global sales of over 18 million units. In Europe, some 34,000 Hilux vehicles were sold in 2015, representing a 23.1% share of the segment and making Hilux Europe’s best-selling pick-up.

Renowned for its Quality, Durability and Reliability (QDR), the unstoppable Hilux continues to amaze as it conquers the North Pole, Icelandic volcanos and the Antarctic continent, and also achieves podium finishes in the Dakar Rally Raid.

Available in Single Cab, four-seat Extra Cab and five-seat Double Cab body styles, the new, 8th generation Hilux builds on this legendary reputation and invincible QDR, redefining toughness for business users with a new and stronger ladder chassis, a reinforced deck structure, enhanced 4x4 capabilities, and an improved towing capacity.

At the same time, the new Hilux responds to a growth in pick-up leisure usage in recent years with a new, contemporary design, greater comfort, advanced equipment and improved safety, making it more stylish and stress-free to drive than ever.

Fulfilling user requirements for both a durable business workhorse and a stylish, comfortable leisure 4x4, the new Hilux has been designed to offer all its customers significant improvements in 6 key areas:

Design - Workhorse toughness and rugged durability combined with new-found levels of refinement and the looks even business users can be proud of.

Comfort - A more spacious and comfortable interior combining SUV practicality and functionality with passenger car-like cabin NVH levels.

Safety - A high strength, impact-absorbing body structure, Toyota Safety Sense featuring PCS with Pedestrian Detection function, LDA and RSA, and comprehensive brake control systems including ABS, EBD, VSC and Trailer Sway Control (TSC).

QDR - A new, tougher ladder chassis, a reinforced deck structure and Active Traction Control (A-TRC), Downhill Assist Control (DAC) and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) systems raise 4x4 capabilities to match Land Cruiser levels.

Commercial Vehicle Capabilities - A larger, stronger and more practical cargo deck and an improved towing capacity of up to 3.5 tons.

Total Cost of Ownership - New 2.4 D-4D engine with class-leading fuel economy.

Tougher, stronger and more capable off-road than ever before, the all-new Toyota remains every inch a Hilux. Yet it also heralds a new era for the pick-up, with the style, comfort, safety and advanced technology to satisfy even the most discerning leisure users.

Fulfilling the diverse requirements of the broadest customer base yet, the all-new Toyota Hilux targets European sales of over 40,000 units per annum.

INTERVIEW: Hiroki Nakajima, Hilux Executive Chief Engineer

How was the development process of the new Hilux started?

My motto is, “seeing is believing,” so I made it a point to begin by visiting as many countries as possible where Hilux is sold. Of the 172 countries around the world, I visited over 110, to hear first-hand from real users and to witness for myself the conditions in which Hilux was being driven.

What did you learn during these trips?

Discussions with actual users revealed many interesting insights, none more relevant than the opinion that Hilux had lost some of its toughness. As a Chief Engineer, I knew this had nothing to do with the vehicle’s road-going capabilities. I realized then that, while we had related toughness with technical durability, the users’ idea of toughness had far exceeded durability alone, and that they had come to expect similarly high levels of on-board comfort and safety to enhance the vehicle’s day-to-day use.

What was the development team’s goal for the new Hilux?

Based on a thorough re-evaluation of the current model, the entire development team became passionate about creating a pick-up that would greatly surpass it in every sense, but especially in terms of toughness, standing out as the core benchmark for Hilux over the years.

This approach led us directly to our development concept, “Tougher than we can imagine.” Our goal required pushing ourselves to make a vehicle that exceeds in Quality, Durability and Reliability, as well as feature advancements in various other areas such as safety, affordability and running cost.

What kind of challenges did you face in the development process?

The market is continually evolving, and we are seeing consumers place more importance on values like comfort, drivability and compelling design. At the same time regulators look to us for cleaner emissions, while rising energy costs create demand for greater fuel economy, without sacrificing performance.

Meanwhile, usage continues its expansion from a traditional base in commercial fleets to include more recreational usage, as well as families seeking an SUV-like cabin so that Hilux can also serve their daily transportation needs.

All of these demands presented a massive challenge, because to me, Hilux felt like a commercial vehicle. It didn’t give me a sense of passion. This is why I demanded that the next-generation Hilux had to offer a strong emotional value as well.

Since we understood that our new Hilux had to incorporate all of these new market realities, we set out to create a unique value for the next-generation model that would appeal to current users as well as the new and growing range of customers around the world. This change in approach provided new and valuable insights, because when we began assessing the current Hilux not as a pick-up truck, but as a vehicle for daily use, we were able to identify many areas that could be improved.

Noise levels could be lower, acceleration could be smoother and the interior could be more luxurious. In the end, we broke away from conventional thinking regarding commercial vehicles and created an entirely new standard for pick-ups.

How would you summarize the new Hilux?

The new Hilux is designed to exceed expectations, ushering in a new era of thinking with respect to the pick-up truck. While the new Hilux has advanced in every respect, including the toughness that it has been renowned for and its new emotional value, explaining each of these points fails to capture the essence of this new model. It is once you get behind the wheel and when driving the new Hilux that you will discover the new sense of refined toughness and feel the passion that created a new era for the pick-up.

STYLING

• Workhorse toughness and rugged

reliability combined with new-found levels of sophistication

• More spacious interior with SUV-levels of comfort

• Larger, stronger and more practical cargo deck

Exterior Design - Toughness Redefined

The workhorse toughness and rugged durability inherent in every Hilux generation is now combined with the new-found levels of sophistication demanded by a growing leisure market to create the unique, next generation pick-up appeal of the all-new Hilux model range.

Nowhere is this unique combination of toughness and refinement more clearly expressed than in the new front. This combines the sleek, ‘Keen Look’ styling of a unified upper grille and headlamp design with the ruggedness of a deep, powerful bumper housing the large, ‘Under Priority’ lower grille.

Beneath the trademark ‘clamshell’ hood which wraps over the front wheel arches to reinforce the new Toyota’s solid, one-piece road presence, the second horizontal bar of the upper grille runs the full width of the new Hilux, extending into the new headlamp clusters to form a unique Daytime Running Lamp (DRL) signature featuring 12 white LEDs.

With the ‘Hilux’ signature integrated within the side of the casing, the new headlamp clusters wrap around the vehicle side fenders to further emphasise the width of the new pick-up. The advanced technology of the ‘Keen Look’ headlamp design also incorporates powerful LED low-beam projectors, available on High grade models.

Below, the bumper design emphasises the tough, durable functionality expected of any Hilux. The trapezoidal shape of the lower grille highlights Toyota’s ‘Under Priority’ design language, whilst the placement of the foglamp housings at the bumper extremities reinforces the new pick-up’s solid, stable front stance.

Flowing smoothly into a new, stronger and wider undercover, the lower corners and bottom of the bumper have been shaped to optimise ground clearance under even the most extreme off-road driving conditions.

To the sides, the new Hilux abandons a visually separate ‘over fender’ design in favour of the seamless transition of the front bumper into the muscular front wheel arches for a more refined appearance.

Both dynamism and toughness are incorporated in the profile of the new Toyota pick-up by the use of a thick lower door cross-section which links front and rear wheel arches -the latter also now seamlessly integrated within the body- before curving upwards to anchor the wrap-around rear lamp clusters.

Greater style is added to the design through the adoption of a blacked-out B-pillar within the smooth, rear-slanted silhouette of Extra Cab and Double Cab model cabins, and a choice of new 17” and 18” alloy wheels. Extra Cab versions feature rear-hinged doors for easier ingress, while Double Cab models feature a chrome beltline linking the cab and rear deck for a unified overall design.

The cab roof has been carefully shaped to improve both its styling and practicality. It now features an aerodynamic, ‘pagoda’-style ‘V’-shape that helps channel air over the roof and off the sides of the vehicle, rather than into the deck where it can create drag against the tailgate. Even the minor detail of the antenna has been considered; it has been repositioned further forward to keep it clear of bulky loads or when using deck attachments.

Flanked by a new lamp cluster design which incorporates aero stabilising fins to improve aerodynamic efficiency, the rear of the new Hilux features a new steel bumper which is set lower to the ground, allowing for a deeper step area to improve deck accessibility when the tailgate is closed. The rear view camera is now integrated into the handle assembly for cleaner looks and better visibility.

The all-new Hilux is available in a choice of five popular base colours, and three new eye-catching colours: Orange Spice, Volcano Red and Hydro Blue.

Interior Design - Durable and Sophisticated, with Innovative Technology

Accessed via a Smart Entry and Start system with a stylish electric key, the all-new Hilux interior combines the durability and functionality required of any working vehicle with SUV levels of refinement, sophistication and equipment.

The horizontal emphasis of the clean, uncluttered dashboard design combines premium quality elegance with the strength of a work environment. The dashboard incorporates new, cross fin-type air vents with rotary dial adjustment.

The centre console is dominated by the integration of a robust, tablet-like 7” touch-screen multimedia system. Operated simply and intuitively by premium quality capacitive switchgear and fingertip flick control, the unit has been moved closer to the front seats for ease of use.

A new driver’s instrument binnacle locates large, clear, analogue speedometer and tachometer dials either side of a full colour 4.2” TFT multi-information display. Its content changed quickly and easily via a steering wheel-mounted switch, the display places the most pertinent driving information at the highest position on the screen to minimise the shift in line-of-sight whilst driving.

Featuring a bold, horizontal spoke design to harmonise with the dashboard styling, a new steering wheel incorporates reach and rake adjustability, thumb rests and a thicker, stitched rim to guarantee a comfortable grip for all drivers.

Integral switchgear -including a four-way rocker switch- allows for quick, easy control of the 6-speaker audio and multi-information display systems, as well as linked operation of the 7” centre console and multi-information displays.

With dial-operated temperature and airflow control and a clear LCD display, a new air-conditioning system offers occupants notably improved heating and cooling functionality. The use of an optimised compressor allows the system to generate cooler air when the engine is running at idle.

In keeping with the more leisure-oriented interior design of the new Hilux, the gear lever has been shortened to give a slicker, more passenger car-like shift action. In addition, drive mode selection, including all-wheel drive, is now simply made via adjacent, easy-to-use switches.

The premium quality appearance and tactility of the new Hilux interior is reinforced by visually-unifying metallic coated ornamentation to the dashboard, door trim, driver’s instrument binnacle, steering wheel and gear lever bezel. Further visual harmony is created by the adoption of consistent blue illumination and instrument backlighting throughout.

Onboard – More Space, Greater Comfort and Comprehensive Storage

The all-new Hilux benefits from increased interior space and greater seat comfort, as well as the wealth of practical storage compartments essential to a vehicle equally at home in both business and leisure environments.

The driver’s seat hip point has been raised by 10 mm, and the height adjustment range increased by 15 mm. A front tilt function has also been added to the power adjustment controls and this, in conjunction with the addition of reach adjustment to the steering wheel, offers an ideal driving position to a wider range of occupants.

Offering occupants head- and shoulder room increases of 8 and 19 mm respectively, the front seats feature a new frame structure with a long, amply padded seat cushion optimised to provide excellent comfort support over long distances. Seat back side bolster size has also been increased to improve lateral holding performance.

On Extra Cab and Double Cab models, the rear seats also benefit from the optimisation of both frame structure and cushioning, resulting in an increase in both body and leg support. This increased comfort is further enhanced by a reduction in thickness of the front seat back, creating more foot space and 10 mm greater knee room for rear seat occupants.

A 60:40 split tip-up rear seat is available to enhance Double Cab flexibility. Its lightweight structure means less effort is required to fold the seats, whilst its centre armrest is wide enough to be used by both occupants simultaneously.

The black seat upholstery of the new Hilux interior is available in a choice of three finishes. Entry grade models feature a tough, hard-wearing fabric for business users, a high quality, soft-textured yet durable fabric enhances the Mid grade interior for dual usage owners, and High grade, leisure usage models are upholstered in full leather.

The new Hilux boasts class-leading levels of practical storage. The split-level glove box features a lockable lower compartment, whilst the upper compartment is connected to the HVAC system and may be used as a cool box for the storage of two 500 ml bottles.

Beneath its padded arm rest lid, the centre console box offers storage for up to 22 CDs and an optional, AC 220V power outlet. Fold-down overhead storage is convenient for items such as sunglasses, and driver and passenger dashboard-mounted cup holders are positioned in front of the side air vents for drinks cooling.

The transmission tunnel incorporates a further large cup holder and a storage tray, adjacent to which are two DC 12V accessory sockets and both AUX and USB ports for the connection of smartphones and portable media devices. And front door pockets will stow 1 litre plastic bottles.

The Double Cab’s rear accommodation further benefits from large rear door pockets, twin rear armrest cup holders, pockets and convenience hooks to the front seat-backs, ceiling hooks above the seats, and under-seat storage compartments.

Cabin NVH - Lowered to Passenger Car Levels

Allowing occupants to fully benefit from the new, more comfortable and sophisticated Hilux interior, the intrusion of engine, road and wind noise into the cabin has been reduced to class-leading levels.

Comprehensive sound absorption and insulation measures have been adopted throughout the new Hilux. Expansion foam is injected throughout the bodyshell structure and foam used to all seal points to prevent the transmission of noise.

A fender separator and upper and lower protectors seal the junctions of the cowl louver and front pillar with the front wing, helping to soundproof the engine bay and limit the transmission of sound from both the engine and air intake. Spot welding between the cover on top of the cowl panel and the flange creates a cowl Noise and Vibration seal and further soundproofs the engine bay, while the dash outer silencer has been made 1.5 times larger, reducing idling noise.

In conjunction with the engine bay soundproofing, the new 2.4 D-4D engine itself has undergone Noise- and Vibration-suppressing measures. Diesel engine combustion noise has been reduced by optimising the shapes of the intake and Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) ports, and the intake manifold, suppressing intake variations in each cylinder.

The front drive has been changed from a gear to a chain mechanism, reducing mechanical noises caused by speed fluctuations whilst idling. The form of the intake manifold has been optimised to reduce engine noise. The exhaust manifold optimises the retention capacity of the catalytic converter, lowering the noise characteristics of turbo engines. And, enhancing the vibration management of the turbocharger itself, turbocharger support rigidity has been improved. In addition, an oil pan insulation cover, a polyamide cylinder head cover and a resin engine cover have been adopted, all of which contribute to further reductions in engine noise.

Finally, to address wind and road noise, lips have been added to the side glass lining to decrease noise penetration, seals have been added between the front and rear doors, the range of weather strip application has been extended to the rocker area to increase noise barrier performance, and the size of the door drainage plug holes has been enlarged to further reduce noise penetration.

Cargo Deck - Larger, Stronger and More Practical

The cargo deck of the new Hilux has been made larger, stronger and more practical.

Maximum cargo deck width has increased from 1,544 to a class-leading 1,645 mm. The tailgate now benefits from stronger, link-type hinges, and heavy-duty steel plate brackets have been adopted for the struts supporting it in the open position.

The deck itself has been made stronger to reduce deformation and damage when loading or unloading cargo. The floor ribs have been redesigned and sill cross-members added to the floor panel. The header panel has been reinforced, and the shape of both the wheel house rib reinforcement and the service hole cover on the tailgate optimised.

A range of cargo deck optional equipment features a number of covers, including both a hard top and lockable aluminium roller, or hard tonneau covers with or without high over bars.

NEW DIESEL ENGINE & TRANSMISSIONS FOR BEST-IN-CLASS TOTAL COST OF OWNERSHIP

• All-new 2.4 D-4D, combining vastly improved torque delivery with class-leading fuel economy

• New 6-speed Super ECT automatic transmission and improved 6-speed manual transmission

• Upgraded drivetrain to support high engine torque output

All-new 2.4 D-4D Global Diesel Engine Technology

Although approximately 100 cm3 lower in capacity than its predecessor, Toyota’s newly developed 2.4 D‑4D Global Diesel (GD) engine combines vastly improved torque delivery in the low and medium speed ranges with class-leading fuel economy.

The new, 16 valve, DOHC four-cylinder engine is equipped with a variable nozzle turbocharger with intercooler. The 2,393 cm3 2.4 D-4D unit generates 110 kW at 3,400 rpm, and maximum torque of 400 Nm between 1,600 and 2,000 rpm.

Two-wheel drive versions are mated to an improved 6-speed manual transmission, whilst all-wheel drive models offer a choice of the improved 6-speed manual gearbox or a new 6-speed Super ECT automatic transmission.

The new Hilux accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.8 (6A/T) or 13.2 (6MT) seconds. 2x4 versions achieve a top speed of 175 km/h while 4x4 variants reach 170 km/h.

With fuel efficiency improved by some 9% over the larger capacity engine it replaces, the new 2.4 D-4D returns class-leading fuel economy figures as low as 6.4 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of only 169 g/km.

In combination with reduced services times, the superior fuel efficiency and reduced running costs, the new powertrain offers customers Best-in-Class Total Cost of Ownership.

The new 2.4 D-4D incorporates a comprehensive range of measures designed to save weight, enhance combustion efficiency and reduce friction.

A resin head cover and a polyamide cylinder head cover have been adopted, while the thickness of the entire cylinder head has been reduced. The resultant weight reduction contributes significantly to lowering energy consumption and, hence, improve fuel efficiency.

The efficiency of the intake and exhaust ports, and the fuel injection system, has been optimised to maximise torque. Two intake ports are used in unison, according to the engine speed: a tangential port that produces a high swirl flow, agitating the air/fuel mixture to enhance combustion efficiency, and a helical port that achieves a high flow volume.

The engine features an electronically controlled, common-rail type fuel injection system that achieves higher pressure and more advanced injection pressure control, and a new piston shape has been adopted to match the new shape of the combustion chamber.

Precise pilot injection matching the state of the ambient air occurs before the main injection to shorten ignition delay, combining stable combustion in even the world’s harshest environments with quiet operation and high thermal efficiency.

The new turbocharger is 30% smaller than its predecessor and features a newly-developed turbine for improved efficiency, and a newly-developed impeller that provides instantaneous acceleration response and produces maximum torque over a wide rev range.

The engines is equipped with a water-cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system with an EGR cooler bypass function.

The adjacent positioning of the catalyst combines cleaner performance with a reduction in size of some 30% and a reduction in the number of exhaust system components from 18 to just three. The elimination of up to 99% of NOx (nitrogen oxide) emissions through use of Toyota’s urea Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system ensures that the new 2.4 D-4D Hilux complies with Euro 6 regulations.

Mechanical friction within the engines has been minimised through the adoption of a high-efficiency vacuum pump, a roller rocker-type valve train and a low friction timing chain, further improving combustion efficiency.

Improved 6-speed Manual Transmission

The gear ratios of the 6-speed manual transmission have been optimised to offer 10% lower 1st gear and 23% higher 6th gear ratios than the outgoing 5-speed gearbox, improving both low speed torque delivery and high speed fuel economy.

The supporting components of the shift system use multiple bearings and bushings to produce a smooth change and satisfying user feedback. The gear combination has been tuned using a micrometer to achieve the smoothest possible transmission of torque. And a clutch start switch has been added to prevent sudden acceleration if the transmission is engaged at engine start-up.

Noise and vibration generated during gear engagement has been reduced. And the length and thickness of the transmission case ribs have been optimised to minimise noise and vibration generated in, or transmitted through, the casing.

Ensuring the durability and reliability required of any off-road vehicle, the gear shape and number of teeth have been optimised for strength, and the load tolerance of each gear increased. The bearing support structures on the front of the countershaft have been changed. The current roller bearing has been replaced by a combined roller and ball bearing to effectively balance axial and radial direction load.

Enhanced 6-speed Super intelligent Electronically Controlled Automatic Transmission

The Hilux 6-speed automatic Super intelligent Electronically Controlled Transmission (6 Super ECT) benefits from several new control systems designed to improve both fuel economy and driving performance.

‘High-speed Gear Effective Utilisation Control’ determines the availability of high-speed gears in real time according to driving conditions. For instance, taking into account vehicle loading and throttle setting, the system will determine whether 6th gear is available or the vehicle should remain in 5th to achieve the optimum balance of driving power and fuel efficiency.

‘Deceleration Downshift Control’ optimises downshifts when decelerating to improve fuel efficiency. The fuel supply is automatically cut off during periods of engine braking, unless engine speed drops to the low rpm threshold, when fuel injection is resumed to prevent engine stalling. Accordingly, the transmission maximises engine braking by selecting a lower gear to prevent engine speed dropping below the low rpm threshold, thus extending fuel cut-off periods to drastically enhance fuel economy.

‘Artificial Intelligence (AI)-SHIFT Control’ incorporates Accelerator Immediate Close and Immediate Open Control. The former makes it easier to maintain the current gear when the accelerator pedal is suddenly released, enhancing both engine braking force and responsiveness when accelerating again. The latter performs downshifts immediately on sudden depression of the accelerator pedal, enhancing throttle response.

Stop & Start System

The Hilux Stop & Start System is among the most advanced on the market today, designed to save fuel and keep occupants comfortable even in the world’s toughest climates.

The stronger, more durable starter motor enables the engine to restart in just 0.2 seconds. At restarts, the engine revs are reduced and Hill-start Assist Control is applied for a smoother start-off.

The Cold Storage System extends air-conditioning operation for 60 seconds when the engine is off, three times longer than conventional systems, while Battery Back-up Control ensures that all electronic systems –such as audio and navigation- remain fully operational when the engine is switched off.

The driver is informed of the engine status via the new Multi-information Display, wherein he can also activate the system’s new “Long” control mode. This feature allows for an extended idling stop time and multiple Stop-Start cycles -especially useful in heavy traffic with long waiting times- for even lower fuel consumption.

Upgraded, High Torque Drivetrain

The Hilux drivetrain has been upgraded to support high engine torque output. The diameter of the output shaft within the transfer case has been increased, and new differentials adopted to cope with higher torque loads. The propeller shaft has been optimised for increased torque and a higher vehicle top speed, and a torsional damper added to minimise Noise and Vibration (NV).

New Drive Mode Switch

The new Hilux is now equipped with a Drive Mode switch, allowing drivers to choose between ECO and POWER settings. ECO mode reduces power consumption in relation to acceleration, heating and cooling to improve fuel economy, whilst POWER mode offers driver’s a sharper response to throttle inputs for a more engaging driving experience.

DRIVING DYNAMICS & OFF-ROAD ABILITY

• Newly developed ladder-frame chassis offering a 20% increase in torsional rigidity

• Revised suspension enabling up to 20% more wheel travel

• New brake control systems for enhanced off-road capabilities

Tougher, More Durable Chassis and Bodyshell

The all-new Hilux features a newly developed ladder-frame chassis offering a 20% increase in torsional rigidity. It is designed to combine improved handling, ride comfort, NV performance and collision safety with outstanding durability in even the most extreme driving environments.

The thickness of the frame side rails and cross-members has been increased by some 30 mm, and the cross-member cross-section optimised. In conjunction with the strengthening of the frame bracket structure, this improves both cross-member deformation resistance and the fatigue strength of the suspension and front propeller shaft mountings. These measures enhance vehicle handling on rough roads and the ground-covering ability of the new Hilux.

A change in shape and an increase in thickness of the suspension installation components enhances the fatigue strength of the suspension mountings and towing hitch, awarding the new Hilux an increase in axle capacity, and raising its towing capacity to 3.5 tons on Single and Extra Cab 4x4 models and to 3.2 tons on Double Cab versions.

The optimisation of the side rail cross-sections and the enhanced connection rigidity between them and the cross-members improves frame rigidity against twisting or bending. This improves vehicle yaw response and ride comfort, as well as reducing floor vibrations and engine sounds transmitted to the cabin.

Ladder-frame chassis deformation in the event of a crash is also reduced to deliver best-in-class occupant protection.

Boasting three times the deformation strength of its predecessor, a stronger, wider under cover improves protection to essential parts beneath the new all-wheel drive Hilux.

The cover area has been enlarged, reinforcement added and panel thickness increased, reducing the risk of damage to the power steering boot and camber bolt. The engine may now be fully serviced without the need to remove the under cover, lowering service costs and, hence, the Total Cost of Ownership.

With the rigidity of its connection points to the chassis increased, the new bodyshell features a high content of 590 MPa high-tensile steel, combining light weight with optimum body strength.

It further benefits from a total of 388 spot welding points -120 more than on the current Hilux. The resultant increase in body rigidity limits deformation, improving steering accuracy and responsiveness for a more engaging driving experience.

Finally, the new Hilux features superior anti-corrosion performance to ensure a long-lasting chassis and bodyshell even when operating in the very harshest of working environments. The width of the side rails and cross-members in the chassis frame has been increased by some 30 mm to achieve a 20-years corrosion resistance.

Galvanised (GA) steel with anti-corrosive properties is used on all parts of the vehicle exterior underbody, and widely used throughout the upper body cabin and deck. The area of vehicle undercoating has been substantially increased, reducing water and dirt penetration between panel gaps, and anti-corrosive wax and chip-resistant coating optimally applied to the upper body in areas more prone to corrosion.

Pitch & Bounce Control

The all-new Hilux is equipped with Toyota’s Pitch & Bounce Control system. By automatically adjusting engine torque in direct response to road surface conditions, the system is able to reduce the pitching motion of the body, improving ride comfort and handling.

Pitch & Bounce Control uses wheel speed sensor information to establish when the nose of the vehicle is either lifted or lowered by road surface undulations. When the nose is lifted, this causes the heads of vehicle occupants to tilt backwards. The system momentarily reduces engine torque to compensate, reducing occupant head movement. When the vehicle nose dips, occupants’ heads are tilted forwards, and the system adds torque to compensate in a similar manner.

Though system adjustment of engine torque is measured in extremely small quantities, it has a noticeable effect on ride and handling. Ride comfort is improved through the perception of a flatter ride due to reduced body movement. And steering feel around the centre line is improved through better ground holding of the tyres.

Revised Suspension, Improved Power Steering and New All-terrain Tyres

The all-new Hilux’s tough, durable leaf spring and twin shock absorber rear suspension system has been extensively revised to combine the off-road articulation capabilities expected of a rugged all-wheel drive workhorse with SUV-like ride comfort and handling stability.

The length of the leaf spring has been increased by 100 mm to 1,400 mm, suppressing road surface vibration, and the attachment point of the rear suspension moved to the front of the spring. Moving the attachment point 100 mm forwards and lowering it by 25 mm contributes to enhanced steering stability.

The leaf springs have also been mounted 50 mm further apart on the ladder-frame chassis. In conjunction with an increase in the thickness of the front stabiliser bar, this contributes to increased stability when cornering and when the vehicle is loaded.

Shock absorber mounting has been adjusted, with the rear shock absorber moved forward to equalise damping force between the two, further enhancing straight-line stability.

The size of the shock absorber cylinders has been increased, making it possible to generate damping force with a small stroke to better combat small vibrations. And the damping characteristics of the shock absorbers have been optimised to give a flat ride at low speeds and reduce the impact of shocks during medium- and high-speed driving.

These rear suspension modifications have also facilitated a substantial increase in rear axle articulation, with wheel travel increasing by up to 20%, ensuring even greater levels of off-road capability over rocky or sharply undulating terrain.

The steering column has been redesigned to reduce the transfer of vibration from the road surface, and the power steering system itself has been fine-tuned. The rack ratio has been revised and the assistance characteristics of the power steering gears have been optimised to improve steering feel. Less effort is now required at low speeds, enhancing the vehicle’s tight turn performance, whilst additional steering weight adds stability at higher speeds.

Newly-developed 17” all-terrain tyres compliment these suspension and steering enhancements with improved on-road ride comfort and superior off-road grip performance. Hilux models fitted with 18” wheels are equipped with new, highway terrain tyres designed to minimise noise for comfortable on-road driving.

Switchable All-wheel Drive, High- and Low-ratio Drivetrain

Awarding it outstanding all-terrain capabilities, the all-new Hilux is equipped with a switchable all-wheel drive system featuring a high- and low-ratio transfer case, and both front and locking limited slip rear differentials.

A new, high-capacity rear Limited Slip Differential caters for an increase in powertrain torque. The unit has been made lighter by a reduction in the number of pinion gears from 4 to 2, and by the miniaturisation of the side bearing.

Reliability has been improved by the heat treatment of the front bearing, by the Kanigen plating of the pinion shaft and by oil seal modifications. Fuel economy has been enhanced through the adoption of highly efficient tapered roller bearings, and the use of low-viscosity differential oil.

Improving both effectiveness and reliability, the electromagnetic differential lock now features a built-in solenoid actuator.

Via a new, dashboard-mounted drive mode selection switch, the Hilux’s Automatic Disconnecting Differential system disengages the front differential when two-wheel drive is selected, enhancing refinement, fuel consumption and on-road driveability.

For increased convenience, it is possible to shift from four- to two-wheel drive on the move, and from two- to four-wheel drive at speeds below 50 km/h.

The front differential is now fitted with an oil temperature sensor to reduce the risk of overheating in all-wheel drive mode. If the oil temperature becomes abnormally high, the system alerts the drive to switch into two-wheel drive mode. If two-wheel drive is not engaged within 30 seconds, vehicle speed is automatically restricted to below 120 km/h.

New Brake Control Systems for Enhanced Off-road Capabilities

Complementing its proven, high- and low-ratio all-wheel drive powertrain, a new range of brake control systems raises the new Hilux’s off-road capabilities to Land Cruiser levels.

An Active Traction Control system (A-TRC) uses both brake fluid pressure and engine control to distribute torque appropriately to all four wheels, delivering traction superior to that offered by a limited slip differential.

On detecting a loss of traction in one or more driven wheels, the system automatically brakes the relevant wheels and simultaneously re-distributes drive torque to those which have grip. This significantly improves the Hilux’s off-road capabilities over both slippery and rocky terrain.

Downhill Assist Control (DAC), working in forward or reverse, helps the driver to regulate vehicle speed on steep, slippery or bumpy downhill gradients. In circumstances when engine braking alone is insufficient to reduce vehicle speed, the system automatically controls brake fluid pressure to maintain a constant, low descent speed with the brake and accelerator pedals untouched by the driver.

Operating at speeds of less than 25 km/h, with forward speed controlled to between 5 and 7 km/h and reverse speed to between 3 and 5 km/h, DAC allows the driver to descend steep slopes in stability, without the wheels locking, whilst concentrating on steering the new Hilux.

Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) prevents the vehicle from moving backwards during an uphill start when the driver releases the brake pedal. The system temporarily maintains braking to all four wheels for a maximum of two seconds in order to hold the vehicle in place and prevent rollback.

Exceptional Towing Performance

Acting in combination, the vastly improved low and medium speed torque delivery of Toyota’s newly developed 2.4 D-4D Global Diesel engines and the increased strength of the new, ladder-frame chassis have raised the towing capacity of the all-new Hilux up to a maximum 3.5 tons.

To ensure reliable performance under the consistent high-load stress this substantial towing capability can create, several measures have been taken to enhance engine and transmission cooling performance.

All Hilux models feature a new radiator design. In addition to increasing the number of tubes and expanding the heat dissipation area, the fin shapes and coolant flow rate have also been optimised. As a result, heat dissipation performance has been improved by 10.4%.

The intercooler has been positioned in front of the radiator to improve its efficiency. And all models equipped with automatic transmission further feature a lightweight, aluminium multi-plate transmission oil cooler which improves heat dissipation performance by 18.6% to offer superior cooling abilities during high-load driving.

SAFETY

• Improved safety performance and occupant protection thanks to stronger ladder-frame chassis

• Toyota Safety Sense featuring PCS with pedestrian detection function, LDA and RSA

• Comprehensive brake control systems, including Trailer Sway Control

High Strength, Impact Absorbing Chassis and Body Structure

The Hilux’s new, stronger, ladder-frame chassis offers increased deformation resistance, whilst its energy absorption performance has increased by 15% over that of its predecessor. This improves safety performance and occupant protection.

The chassis absorbs collision forces in three stages to reduce the effects of impacts on the body, engine and interior. Firstly, the front side rail extension area crumples and buckles. Secondly, the side rail collapses vertically near the suspension tower. And, thirdly, the side rail bends inwards in the ‘kick’ range.

Any residual front or side impact energy unabsorbed by the deformation of the frame structure is effectively distributed through the upper, lower and underside bodyshell structural members. The bodyshell itself features a high content of 590 MPa high-tensile steel, combining light weight with optimum strength to help reduce occupant injuries.

The risk of pedestrian injury has also been reduced by the adoption of impact absorbing structures to the front bumper, bonnet, fender bracket structure and cowl structure, reducing impact force to the head and legs of pedestrians during a collision.

Toyota Safety Sense

Combining a camera and millimetre-wave radar for a high level of detection performance, the Hilux’s Toyota Safety Sense system features a Pre-Collision System (PCS) with a Pedestrian Detection function, Lane Departure Alert (LDA) and Road Sign Assist (RSA) system.

At speed ranges of between 10 km/h and 170 km/h Pre-Collision System detects cars ahead of the vehicle and reduces the risk of hitting them. When there is a possibility of a collision it prompts the driver to brake with an audible and visual alert. PCS also primes the brake system to deliver extra stopping force when the driver presses the brake pedal. If the driver fails to react in time, the system automatically applies the brakes, reducing speed by approximately 40 km/h or even bringing the car to a complete stop, in order to prevent the collision or mitigate the force of impact.

The system is also able to detect potential collisions with pedestrians, in the event of which automated braking operates at relative speeds of between 10 km/h to 80 km/h, and can reduce speed by approximately 30 km/h.

The Lane Departure Alert system monitors lane markings and helps prevent accidents and head-on collisions caused by leaving lanes. If the vehicle starts to deviate from the lane without the indicators having been engaged, LDA warns the driver with an audible and visual alert, and will provide steering input to help prevent lane departure.

Road Sign Assist identifies traffic signage such as speed limit and no overtaking signs, providing information to the driver in the Multi-information Display.

Thanks to the reduced risk of being involved in traffic accidents, vehicles equipped with Toyota Safety Sense may benefit from lower insurance costs or a more advantageous insurance classification1.

Comprehensive Brake Control Systems

The all-new Hilux is equipped with a comprehensive array of brake control systems to help prevent accidents, maximise vehicle stability and even help drivers control trailers during difficult driving conditions.

The Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) prevents the wheels from locking under heavy braking. Brake Assist (BA) generates a large brake force during emergency braking, supplementing the efforts of drivers who may not be able to depress the brake pedal with sufficient force.

An Emergency Brake Signal automatically flashes the vehicle’s hazard warning lights during emergency braking, warning following vehicles to help reduce the possibility of a rear-end collision.

Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) automatically distributes brake force between the front and rear wheels according to vehicle and road surface conditions. This not only optimises braking performance, but also reduces the brake pedal force required for effective braking.

Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) activates when sensors detect understeer or oversteer whilst the vehicle is turning. The system uses automatic control of both engine output and individual wheel brakes to counter the effects of understeer or oversteer, significantly enhancing vehicle stability and, hence, safety.

When trailer sway occurs due to cross winds, variations in the road surface or driver steering inputs, Trailer Sway Control (TSC) uses both brake and engine output control to suppress trailer movement before it becomes uncontrollably excessive.

Full described in the Driving Dynamics chapter, the new Hilux also benefits from three further new brake control systems -an Active Traction Control system (A-TRC), Downhill Assist Control (DAC) and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), which combine significantly enhanced active safety levels with simple, intuitive driver assistance under even the most extreme off-road conditions.

SRS Airbags and Three-point Seatbelts.

The new Hilux Double Cab is equipped with seven Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) airbags: driver and passenger front and side airbags, a driver knee airbag and curtain shield airbags covering both front and rear seats.

All front and rear seats are fitted with three-point, Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) seat belts. The front and rear belts further benefit from a pretensioner and force limiter function. A seat belt reminder is provided for all seats, and the rear seats are also equipped with a Child Restraint System (CRS) top tether anchor for the securing of ISOFIX child seats.

2016 hilux

Karl Schlicht, Executive Vice President, Toyota Motor Europe

</pp:summary>

Good morning, Ladies and Gentlemen,

And welcome to Toyota.

Today, we are 61 days into the new year. A good time to briefly look back at 2015.

In spite of challenging circumstances, we achieved our targets.

In the East, we maintained our market share of 7.7%, in a very unstable environment. So Russia remains one of our highest volume markets, in spite of the depreciation of the Rouble,

while Lexus set an all time record there in 2015.

In the West, we increased sales by 9.5%.

And we did so in a profitable way. In fact, in the first nine months of our fiscal year, the operating profit was around 380 milion Euro, despite the though situation in the Eastern markets

We achieved these results, because we dare to be different:

Different because we do not chase volume at any cost,

Different because of our absolute focus on customer satisfaction,

And different because of our total commitment to Hybrid.

We were also pleased to confirm the growing importance of our locally produced models. In 2015,

70 % of Toyotas sold in Europe, were produced in Europe, a 6 percentage point increase.

And as I just mentioned, Hybrid is at the core of our strategy. We sold nearly 210.000 hybrids last year, 20% more than in 2014. Here in Western Europe, hybrids now represent 1/3 of our sales.

The fact that hybrid gains popularity in spite of falling fuel prices, shows that customers prefer them not only for their fuel economy. They appreciate the low cost of ownership, and the benefits of an electric drivetrain, without range anxiety. But overall, it’s the ‘feel good’ factor that makes hybrid drivers feel just a little bit special.

With this in mind, let’s now focus on 2016 and beyond.

We will continue to strive for ‘Better’: Better Cars, better Quality and better Service. Because ultimately, that is, what determines the customers’ smiles.

We also anticipate the future needs of society, by developing better mobility solutions such as the i-ROAD project in Grenoble (France) or the revolutionary Mirai fuel cell car.

It has the potential to trigger a societal transformation, and we Toyota are ready to play an important role in a movement that has the potential to change the world…

Because Mirai offers no-compromise driving: only water as emissions. Full torque and power, no compromise. Normal driving range, again no compromise.

And at the same time, we are constantly looking for ways to make driving more fun, as demonstrated here with the Kikai Concept, that lets its driver re-discover the magic of mechanics.

We also strive towards ‘always better’ safety for all, as we continue to democratize advanced safety technologies, because we genuinely care about the well-being of our customers.

Last year, Toyota Safety Sense was already available – either as standard equipment or as an affordable option on 70% of our vehicles sold. Latest by the end of 2017, that will be 100%.

Going back to ever better cars, the first new product today, is ‘Toyota Quality and Reliability’ personified: the all-New Hilux.

It is a car that is special to me, because it is built in South Africa, my home country. It is used all across the globe, in the toughest of circumstances.

Testament to this is its recent performance in the Dakar, where we finished on the podium.

Ladies and gentlemen,

The all-new Toyota Hilux!

< REVEAL >

So here it is - the toughest pick-up truck in the world, just got even tougher, thanks to:

a chassis that is 20% more rigid,

20% more wheel travel,

and an even stronger cargo deck.

Paradoxically, it is also more comfortable, quieter, and has a completely upgraded interior,

with near Premium Brand levels of design and execution.

By making it easier on its driver, the new Hilux becomes an even more capable companion,

ready to tackle whatever you throw at it.

It will of course come with Toyota Safety Sense, and with a new 2.4 D-4D engine, More powerful,

more frugal, and with more torque. When it arrives in dealerships in early Summer, it will be ready

to reassume its role of segment leader. The second new vehicle that I would like to introduce,

is the Toyota PROACE VERSO.

This brand new product, developed from our cooperation with PSA, enables us to re-enter the LCV market with full strength. Customers will have a choice of over 30 different body/engine combinations, including:

various passenger versions,

long or mid wheelbase,

but also

an innovative short wheelbase version, bridging the gap between the classic Light Commercial Vehicle and a Car Derived Van.

And here on stand, we have the PROACE VERSO,

a comfortable 8-seater MPV.

Ladies and Gentlemen, The new PROACE VERSO!

< REVEAL >

The new PROACE will come with two new diesels, ranging from 95hp to 180hp, and of course with Toyota Safety Sense, which helped PROACE VERSO achieve a 5-star NCAP rating.

There will be a wide selection of genuine Toyota accessories to suit the most diverse requirements.

With the comprehensive Toyota warranty, supported by a quality Toyota dealer network, PROACE is a very compelling package for anyone relying on their van to earn a living.

But, as you can see, there is more excitement to come. For that, let me hand over to Karl Schlicht,

our EVP for Sales and Marketing.

< KARL WALKS ON STAGE >

Good morning

Dr. van Zyl already mentioned the enormous importance of hybrid to our brand.

3 examples:

This year, nearly 40% of all Yaris sold will be Hybrid

For Auris, the hybrid mix will be nearly 60%!

And just a few weeks ago, with our RAV4, we introduced Hybrid in the heart of the C-SUV segment- an important next step towards our vision of 50% TOTAL hybrid sales mix by 2020.

But for a few years, you have been asking, why doesn't Toyota introduce a C-Cross Over? Well we have to admit we are a little late, but - there is very good reason. We did not want to launch 'just' ANY C-Segment Cross-Over,without a knock-out design, without being able to use our latest and 1st overseas produced TNGA platform and especially, without Hybrid.

Today, we are ready to show you the result. We call it the C-HR, nickname or short for Coupe High Rider.

Ladies and Gentlemen, THE ALL NEW....TOYOTA C-HR !

(REVEAL)

This is not another concept !! This is the REAL production C-HR.

True to form, and a DESIGN BREAKTHROUGH for Toyota and the segment. A car that will change the FACE OF TOYOTA. Distinctive, evocative...and 'alive'! It is designed to appeal to an entirely new type of customer.

From the very start of the product definition, which was largely done in Europe, 2 elements were beyond question- untouchables...

- Great Design

- Best for Driving Dynamics (Steering and handling)

The Toyota C-HR appears visually bold and compact, but is (surprisingly) a spacious FULL size C-Crossover, actually only 4cm shorter than our last generation RAV4.

Here too, as you would now expect from Toyota, Toyota Safety Sense is watching over its occupants. Toyota C-HR will come with our latest 4th Gen 1.8 Hybrid powertrain and also with our Petrol 1.2 Turbo engine.

When production starts in Turkey towards the end of '16, CH-R will bring a truly unique offer to the most happening segment in the European Market.

Now, let me invite back Dr. van Zyl and also the 'fanatical breakthrough' Chief Engineer Koba-san,

on stage for photos.

Thank you!

2016 geneva,2016 c-hr,2016 proace verso,2016 hilux,2016 proace

<pp:caseid>154544</pp:caseid><pp:subtitle>A new Era for the Pick-Up, but Every Inch a Hilux</pp:subtitle><pp:summary>
Tougher, stronger and more capable off-road than ever before, the all-new Toyota remains every inch a Hilux. Yet it also heralds a new era for the pick-up, with the style, comfort, safety and advanced technology to satisfy even the most discerningleisure users.

</pp:summary>

First released in 1968, and one year later throughout Europe, the legendary Toyota Hilux has been a dominant presence in the global pick-up market for nearly 50 years.

To date, the world’s favourite pick-up has recorded cumulative global sales of over 16 million units. In Europe, some 34,000 Hilux vehicles were sold in 2015, representing a 23.1% share of the segment and making Hilux Europe’s best-selling pick-up.

Renowned for its Quality, Durability and Reliability (QDR), the unstoppable Hilux continues to amaze as it conquers the North Pole, Icelandic volcanoes and the Antarctic continent, and also achieves podium finishes in the Dakar Rally Raid.

At the same time, the new Hilux responds to a growth in the leisure usage of pick-ups in recent years with a new, contemporary design, greater comfort, advanced equipment and improved safety, making it more stylish and stress-free to drive than ever.

Exterior Design - Toughness Redefined

At 5,335 mm long, 1,855 mm wide and 1,815 mm high, the new Hilux is 75 mm longer, 20 mm wider and 45 mm lower than its predecessor.

This combines the sleek, Keen Look styling of a unified upper grille and headlamp design with the ruggedness of a deep, powerful bumper housing the large, Under Priority lower grille.

The advanced technology of the Keen Look headlamp design also incorporates powerful LED low-beam projectors, available on High grade models.Below, the bumper design emphasises the tough, durable functionality expected of any Hilux. The trapezoidal shape of the lower grille highlights Toyota’s Under Priority design language, whilst the placement of the foglamp housings at the bumper extremities reinforces the new pick-up’s solid, stable front stance.

Greater style is added to the design through the adoption of a blacked-out B pillar within the smooth, rear-slanted silhouette of Extra Cab and Double Cab model cabins, and a choice of new 17” and 18” alloy wheels. On Double Cab models, the linking of the cab and rear deck with a chrome beltline further unifies the overall design. The cab roof has been carefully shaped to improve both its styling and practicality. It now features an aerodynamic, ‘pagoda’-style ‘V’ shape that helps channel air over the roof and off the sides of the vehicle, rather than into the deck where it can create drag against the tailgate. Even the minor detail of the antenna has been considered; it has been repositioned further forward to keep it clear of bulky loads or deck attachments.

The cargo deck of the new Hilux has been made larger, stronger and more practical. Maximum cargo deck width has increased from 1,544 mm to a class-leading 1,645 mm.

The header panel has been reinforced, and the shape of both the wheel-house rib reinforcement and the service hole cover on the tailgate optimised. The all-new Hilux is available in a choice of five popular base colours, and three new eye-catching colours: Orange Spice, Volcano Red and Hydro Blue.Interior Design - Durable and Sophisticated, with Innovative TechnologyAccessed via a Smart Entry and Start system with a stylish electric key, the all-new Hilux interior combines the durability and functionality required of any working vehicle with SUV levels of refinement, sophistication and equipment.

A new driver’s instrument binnacle locates large, clear, analogue speedometer and tachometer dials either side of a full-colour 4.2” TFT multi-information display. Its content changed quickly and easily via a steering wheel-mounted switch, the display places the most pertinent driving information at the highest position on the screen to minimise the shift in line-of-sight whilst driving.

Featuring a bold, horizontal spoke design to harmonise with the dashboard styling, a new steering wheel incorporates reach and rake adjustability, thumb rests, and a thicker, stitched rim to guarantee a comfortable grip for all drivers.Integral switchgear -including a four-way rocker switch- allows for quick, easy control of the 6-speaker audio and multi-information display systems, as well as linked operation of the 7” centre console and multi-information displays. In keeping with the more leisure-oriented interior design of the new Hilux, the gear lever has been shortened to give a slicker, more passenger car-like shift action. In addition, drive mode selection, including all-wheel drive, is now simply made via adjacent, easy-to-use switches.

The premium quality appearance and tactility of the new Hilux interior is reinforced by visually unifying, metallic coated ornamentation to the dashboard, door trim, driver’s instrument binnacle, steering wheel and gear lever bezel. Further visual harmony is created by the adoption of consistent blue illumination and instrument backlighting throughout.

New 2.4 D-4D engine

The new Toyota Hilux is available with an all-new 2.4 D-4D Global Diesel (GD) engine. Equipped with a Stop/Start function, the unit combines vastly improved torque delivery in the low and medium speed ranges with class-leading fuel economy.

The new, 16 valve, DOHC four-cylinder engine is equipped with a variable nozzle turbocharger with intercooler. The 2,393 cm3 unit generates 110 kW/150 DIN hp at 3,400 rpm, and maximum torque of 400 Nm between 1,600 and 2,000 rpm.

Two-wheel drive Hilux versions are mated to 6-speed manual transmissions, whilst all-wheel drive models offer a choice of 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearboxes. Both transmissions have been extensively revised to improve durability, enhance low-speed driving performance and offer drivers quieter, smoother gear changes whilst realising the full potential of the new engine. All versions achieve a top speed of 170 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.8 (6A/T) or 13.2 (6M/T) seconds.

The new engine’s fuel efficiency has improved by 9% over the unit it replaces. The 2.4 D-4D returns an average fuel consumption and CO2 emissions as low as 7.1 l/100 km* and 187 g/km*.

Driving Dynamics & Off-road Ability

The all-new Hilux features a newly developed ladder-frame chassis offering a 20% increase in torsional rigidity. It is designed to combine improved handling, ride comfort, NV performance and collision safety with outstanding durability in even the most extreme driving environments. The tough, durable leaf spring and twin shock absorber rear suspension system has been extensively revised to combine the off-road articulation capabilities expected of a rugged all-wheel drive workhorse with SUV-like ride comfort and handling stability.Awarding it outstanding all-terrain capabilities, the all-new Hilux is equipped with a switchable all-wheel drive system featuring a high- and low-ratio transfer case, and both front and locking limited-slip rear differentials.Acting in combination, the vastly improved low and medium speed torque delivery of Toyota’s newly developed 2.4 D-4D Global Diesel engine and the increased strength of the new, ladder-frame chassis have raised the towing capacity of the all-new Hilux to 3.2 tonnes.

Higher Levels of Active & Passive Safety

The new Hilux takes active safety and driver assistance to new levels with the availability of Toyota Safety Sense.Processing information provided by a compact, windscreen head-mounted unit housing both a laser and a camera, Toyota Safety Sense offers customers a Pre-Collision System (PCS), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Automatic High Beam (AHB) and Road Sign Assist (RSA) systems.

2016 geneva,2016 hilux,safety sense
