</pp:summary>

People-friendly universal design1, including low, flat floor and wide-opening rear sliding door

Designed to harmonize with urban life but instantly recognizable as a taxi at a glance, with a deep indigo body

Equipped with reinforced safety equipment, including Toyota Safety Sense C and six SRS airbags2

Toyota City, Japan, October 23, 2017―Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) launched a new taxi vehicle, the “JPN Taxi.” The new model became available today at Toyota and Toyopet dealers nationwide.

The JPN Taxi embodies the spirit of Japanese hospitality. It was developed to provide usability and comfort to a wide range of people, including children, seniors, wheelchair users, and visitors to Japan from abroad. Toyota aims to change Japan’s landscape, develop barrier-free cities, and transform Japan into a tourist-oriented country by promoting the widespread use of its JPN Taxis.

The new model showcases a people-friendly, universal design that provides usability and comfort to a wide range of people through continual innovations and improvements, from grab handles to the overall vehicle structure. Design features include a low, flat floor, making it easy for customers to ingress and egress from the taxi, a wide-opening, power rear sliding door (left side only) and space to accommodate wheelchair users3.

In addition, the taxi is designed to beautifully complement the cityscape while at the same time being easily recognizable as a taxi. This is achieved in part due to the car’s styling, which aims to transcend trends and serve as a timeless classic model, as well as the body’s deep indigo (koiai) tone, a traditional color that has long been a symbol of Japan.

Furthermore, this model offers the driver an optimal range of vision, in part through innovations to the position and shape of the pillars and the use of fender mirrors. As a design priority for this taxi model, functionality was improved by positioning the dashboard instruments and other devices in the taxi to allow easy access, including the placement of the GPS system and taxi meter in a spot that is easy for customers to see.

Environmental performance and power performance were both taken to new levels. By employing a newly developed liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) hybrid system, the new model offers 19.4 km/L4 fuel economy and sharply reduced CO2 emissions. Enhancements were made to safety equipment, including adding the Toyota Safety Sense C package and six SRS airbags as standard features.

Toyota began its venture into the taxi industry in Japan in 1936 with the introduction of the Toyota Model AA. In 1953, Toyota released the Toyopet Super RH model and other vehicles, which have become fixtures helping transport many people over the years. Toyota taxis have and will continue to travel greater distances than the average vehicle and be used in the toughest road conditions. This could be considered the starting point for automobiles that pursue a vision of ideal automotive development.

Toyota looks forward to exhibiting its JPN Taxi at the 45th Tokyo Motor Show 2017, and also plans to use the taxi to greet visitors from around the world in 2020, when Tokyo hosts the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Vehicle Outline

1. People-friendly, universal design that blends in with the cityscape but at the same time is easily recognizable as a taxi

Exterior design

A next-generation taxi designed to be recognizable by customers at a glance and to endure for decades, transcending trends.

Side

- Spacious design featuring a wide-opening rear sliding door highlighting the passenger area

- Large windows enable customers to enjoy a view of the landscape

Front

- The sturdy outline that supports the large cabin is an expression of sophistication and safety

.- A modern design that carries on the heritage of the Toyota Crown (“Crown Sedan,” “Crown Comfort,” and “Comfort”) with a horizontal lattice motif radiator grille that emphasizes surface beauty

- The standard-grade model, “Nagomi,” uses halogen headlights. It also has an affable, distinct look owing to its simple front-end structure with turn signal lights positioned on the corners. The luxury model, “Takumi,” is an expression of high quality and high performance, as demonstrated by incorporating the Bi-Beam LED headlights, front position lights, and turn signal lights into a single unit.

- Equipped with remote-controlled power fender mirrors to easily ascertain the width of the chassis at a mere glance

Rear

- Imparts an aura of dignity suitable for use in formal situations, like a sedan, with a sturdy, notch-shaped rear door

- The rear combination taillights have a 3D structure and wrap around the sides and surface. The surrounding parts run consecutive with the break lines giving it a refreshingly modern appearance. The luxury grade Takumi exudes a sense of high quality attributable to the vertical rear lights on its D pillars.

Interior

The driver’s seat is a functional space suitable for professional use while the cabin is designed to offer a hospitable space and riding comfort to a variety of customers.

Passenger space

- A wide-opening rear sliding door (width: 720 mm, height: 1,300 mm), low, flat floor (floor height: 320 mm), and conveniently placed grab handles5 makes it easier for customers to ingress and egress from the taxi.

- Designed with an optimal point of ingress and egress for wheelchair users from the wide-opening rear sliding door and a seat for caregivers to sit next to the wheelchair user

- The people-friendly cabin package includes large windows, a spacious front and rear seat area (1,065 mm), a head clearance in the back seat of 230 mm, and the use of the entire cabin width to provide ample shoulder room.

- Quality riding comfort owing to plushly padded, flat seats and an optimized framework allows passengers to move sideways more easily.

- Seat belts are easy to reach and pull out thanks to the seat belt extender. Additionally, seat belts in the back seat are lit with LED lighting to make them easy to identify even at night (LED lighting equipped only on the left and right seats)

- Offers exceptional quietness, including the optimal use of sound absorption and soundproofing materials, plus high-quality soundproof glass

- The air conditioning vents in front of the driver’s seat and passenger seat feature a Nanoe6 air purifier

- The luxury grade Takumi comes with a ceiling air circulator and air vents in the back seat that efficiently distribute cool air from the air conditioner. There is a lever so that customers can adjust the air flow themselves. There is also a back seat heating system that customers can operate themselves.

Driver space

- The various instruments are grouped by function making them easy for the driver to operate. Specifically, the car dispatch system, air conditioning, and other instruments operated by the driver are positioned on the driver’s right side while the navigation (GPS) system, taxi meter, and other instruments are placed in view of passengers. The hazard switch, which is frequently used, is located on the right side of the steering wheel.

- The storage space is located in an area barely visible to passengers, and additional devices can be stored in a space behind the steering wheel. Owing to this ample storage space and optimal positioning of storage areas, the vehicle is well-suited for professional use.

Luggage compartment

The 401-liter (VDA standard) luggage compartment offers ample capacity with enough space to fit two large suitcases horizontally7 and four golf bags7. The rear space necessary for opening and closing the back door is 560 mm (room for one suitcase).

Exterior Colors

The new model will be offered in three colors, including the newly developed koiai deep indigo. Koiai is a color born from the hearts of the Japanese, who have worn indigo-dyed clothing since ancient times. Indigo has been an integral part of the lives of the Japanese. Outside of Japan, deep indigo is referred to as Japanese indigo, and this is what was used as the base for developing koiai. Toyota’s goal was to contribute to a beautiful and uniform cityscape with a fleet of koiai-colored taxis. The taxi’s exterior allows for flexible use in a wide range of scenarios, from daily use to formal occasions and business. Furthermore, owing to its superior repairability, all the colors contribute to the vehicle’s economy.

2. High environmental performance and fuel economy owing to a newly developed LPG-hybrid system

This next-generation taxi is gentle on the environment and contributes to low running costs thanks to its 19.4 km/L fuel economy performance and its ability to run on LPG fuel, since it is equipped with a hybrid system (THS II) (which was developed over many years).

3. Taxi designed with durability and economy in mind

- The front suspension adopts the MacPherson strut-type coil spring while the rear suspension employs a trailing link axle-type coil spring (three links), both designed for use in a taxi and to contribute to durability.

- The side portions of the front and rear 3-part bumper are replaceable. Only the outer lenses of the lights are replaceable. In addition, the superior maintainability of the engine, including the use of a no-maintenance power water pump in the auxiliary belt system, contributes to lower repair costs.

4. Advanced safety performance

- There is a wide lineup of active safety systems available. Toyota Safety Sense C (TSS-C), a collision avoidance support package, comes standard for all grades. Meanwhile, the Intelligent Clearance Sonar, which detects obstacles and helps prevent or mitigate collisions caused by rapid acceleration after pedal misapplication, comes as an option (parking support brake system).

- This vehicle, as well as other TSS-C-equipped vehicles, are adherent to the Safety Support Car recommendation8 of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) of Japan, classified in the “Basic+” Safety Support Car S (Sapo Car S) category, and recommended for older drivers.

- Another standard feature is the six SRS airbags for safety and security in the event of a collision.

1Universal design is the practice of making products that anyone, including seniors, wheelchair users, pregnant women, and people traveling with children, can easily use. The JPN Taxi conforms to the certification guidelines (Level 1) for the Japanese government-approved standard specifications for a universal design taxi.

2SRS airbags (driver/front passenger seat), SRS side airbags (driver/front passenger seat), and SRS curtain shield airbags (front and back seats)

3In certain cases, passengers may be prevented from boarding the taxi depending on the shape of their wheelchair or rolling performance. In accordance with transportation rules, individuals may be asked to move to a safe location to board in the event that safety cannot be ensured. Visit the following site for details: http://toyota.jp/jpntaxi/

Toyota Unveils FC Bus Concept “Sora”

<pp:caseid>235991</pp:caseid><pp:summary>
Toyota City, Japan, October 18, 2017―Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) announces the launch of the “Sora1,” a Toyota fuel cell bus (FC bus) concept. Toyota plans to launch sales of a commercial model based on the concept vehicle in 2018 and expects to introduce over 100 Sora, mainly within the Tokyo metropolitan area, ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

</pp:summary>

Length/width/heightBecause the bus is envisioned to be used by large and varying numbers of passengers at any given time, Toyota paid close attention to convenience, safety, and peace of mind with the aim to give all passengers a pleasant riding experience, so that they would want to ride the buses regularly.

Sora (concept model)

Toyota developed the Sora (concept model) based on the vision of an “enduring town icon” guided by two ideas: to make best use of the characteristics of the FC unit; and to enhance the comfort of passengers traveling on bus routes.

Idea 1: Service vehicle for the entire community

Toyota aims to create a bus that works for the world and for people, is environmentally friendly, and can contribute to communities beyond its role as a mobility service.

The Toyota Fuel Cell System (TFCS), which was developed for the Mirai fuel cell vehicle (FCV), has been adopted to deliver superior environmental performance with no CO2 emissions or Substances of Concern (SoC) emitted when in operation.

The Sora is equipped with a high-capacity external power supply system, providing high output and a large capacity of electricity supply (9 kW maximum output, and electricity supply of 235 kWh2) and can be used as an emergency power source following disasters.

Idea 2: Universal design and function that is people-centered

Because the bus is envisioned to be used by large and varying numbers of passengers at any given time, Toyota paid close attention to convenience, safety, and peace of mind with the aim to give all passengers a pleasant riding experience, so that they would want to ride the buses regularly.

Horizontal seats with an automatic storage mechanism improves comfort (first in Japan3)

The bus is equipped with horizontal seats with an automatic storage mechanism to provide space for strollers or wheelchairs. This provides extra seating for regular passengers when the space is not needed for strollers or wheelchairs.

・ Improved safety from bus peripheral monitoring function (first in Japan3) Eight high-definition cameras fitted inside and outside the vehicle detect pedestrians and bicycles around the bus, providing a peripheral monitoring function that warns the driver with sound and images to improve safety.

・ Improved safety from acceleration control function (first in Japan3)

The acceleration control function suppresses sudden acceleration and enables gentle acceleration from stops, in consideration of the safety of standing passengers. Also, there is no lurching due to the lack of a need for gear shifting.

・ Improved ease of boarding and exiting through automatic arrival control4 (first in Japan3)

Adoption of automatic arrival control detects the guidance line on the road surface and uses automatic steering and deceleration to stop the bus with approximately 3 to 6 cm of clearance from the bus stop, and within a range of 10 cm ahead of or behind the bus stop position. This improves boarding and exiting for passengers using strollers or wheelchairs.

・ Improved convenience through ITS Connect

Bus transportation capability, speed, punctuality, and convenience is boosted by ITS Connect, which utilizes vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications to support safe driving, together with systems that support bus convoys and that provide priority at traffic signals (PTPS5).

Design

The design pursues stereoscopic shaping that significantly differs from the hexahedron (box shape) of conventional buses. It also uses LED for the front and rear lights. Such design features make the FC bus instantly recognizable.

Toyota Launches “Fine-Comfort Ride” Concept Vehicle

<pp:caseid>235978</pp:caseid><pp:subtitle>Concept demonstrates further possibilities for fuel cell vehicles</pp:subtitle><pp:summary>
Toyota City, Japan, October 18, 2017―Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) has launched the “Fine-Comfort Ride,” a fuel cell vehicle (FCV) that envisions mobility in a low-carbon society with advanced utilization of hydrogen and renewable energy. The Fine-Comfort Ride proposes "a new form of the premium saloon" by employing a flexible layout unique to electric-powered vehicles and a large amount of available electric power using hydrogen as an energy source.

</pp:summary>

Toyota pursued further possibilities of FCVs through the development of the Fine-Comfort Ride. It offers excellent environmental performance by discharging no CO2 or substances of concern (SoC) while in operation, together with the convenience of a generous cruising range with a hydrogen refueling time of about three minutes. The characteristics of the Fine-Comfort Ride are as follows:

Exterior

Adopts a diamond-shaped cabin that narrows towards the rear, while being wider in all dimensions from the front to the center of the vehicle, maximizing the space of the second row seats and aerodynamic performance.

Utilizes a flexible layout unique to electric-powered vehicles, adopts an in-wheel motor, positions the wheels at the very corners of the vehicle, and utilizes a body underside cover, thereby achieving high running stability and quietness suited to a premium saloon.

Interior

In adopting the concept of “wearing comfort (being wrapped in comfort),” the vehicle embodies future mobility that provides additional value other than movement to the passengers and is not simply just a "ride."

The Agent function and the touch display are arranged around the driver and passenger seats. The seats allow for flexible adjustment according to posture, and the displays allow the driver and passengers to freely access information. The seat layout can be flexibly adjusted, so Fine-Comfort Ride can be used as individual space or as a communication space for individuals.

The joy of fuel cells

The Fine-Comfort Ride boasts quietness and smooth running and also makes full use of the large amount of electricity provided by hydrogen as its energy source. The interior features a full range of equipment, and the car can achieve a cruising range of approximately 1,000 km (JC08 test cycle).

</pp:summary>

Toyota City, Japan, October 16, 2017―Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) today announced an outline of the concept car “Toyota Concept-i” series that embodies the future vision of a mobility society through which artificial intelligence (AI) enables cars to understand the driver, effectively allowing people and cars to become partners.

In addition to the four-wheel model Toyota Concept-i exhibited at the 2017 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January this year, a universal small mobility vehicle and a walking area mobility vehicle have been added to the Toyota Concept-i series. They are expected to be exhibited under the theme of “Let's move the world from here. Beyond the Motor” at the 45th Tokyo Motor Show 2017, which will be held at Tokyo Big Sight for 12 days1 from October 25 through November 5.

Toyota has infused each era with irreplaceable excitement such as “freedom and joy of mobility” based on the idea that cars are among the manufactured goods that are preceded by the word “beloved.” The Toyota Concept-i series aims to become a “beloved car” of a new era guided by the concept of “more than a machine, a partner” to better understand the driver and grow together with the driver as an irreplaceable partner.

The core technology common to the Toyota Concept-i series is a technology that understands people (LEARN), applying AI to recognize emotions and estimate driver preferences. The technology that understands people (LEARN) and automated driving technology combine to lead the driver to safety and provide peace of mind (PROTECT). In addition, by combining the technology with the agent technology, it will be possible to advance technology to the point that the driver's feelings can be anticipated, leading to new Fun to Drive experiences (INSPIRE).

The core value provided by the Toyota Concept-i series

In order to provide new experiences and excitements to more people based on the idea of “freedom and pleasure of mobility for all,” a universal small mobility vehicle has been added to the Toyota Concept-i series so that anyone can have freedom of mobility, including wheelchair users and the elderly. Additionally, a pedestrian zone mobility vehicle has been added to the series to enable free movement in the same space as pedestrians.

The AI Agent, which understands people, is able to disengage and re-engage with the driver across the vehicles in the series, thereby supporting seamless mobility and being together with the driver to achieve safe and fun mobility.

Toyota Concept-i

A four-wheel model representing the Toyota Concept-i series. Using artificial intelligence, and as a partner that understands people, this vehicle aims to become a "beloved car" of a new era.

It combines technology that understands people (“LEARN”) with automated driving and agent technology, and provides drivers with safety and peace of mind (“PROTECT”), and new Fun to Drive experiences (“INSPIRE”) to enrich the enjoyment of moving.

A cabin with a forward projecting futuristic silhouette and an advanced HMI2, as well as interactions with the Agent, achieves a new user experience.

Toyota plans to conduct road tests of vehicles equipped with some of the concept car’s functions in Japan by around 2020.

Main Features

Technology that understands people (LEARN)

Concept-i estimates emotion and level of alertness by reading the driver's expressions, actions, and tone of voice in a complex manner. It compares general information such as news on the web with information on individuals such as social media activity, GPS information, and conversation history in the car, and estimates the driver's preferences based on re-occurring topics that arise.

Technologies such as deep learning are used for the technology that understands people (LEARN), such as measuring emotions and estimating preferences. Based on this technology, the Toyota Concept-i series provides value innovation in the areas of safety and security (PROTECT) and new Fun to Drive experiences (INSPIRE).

Safety and peace of mind (PROTECT) “Learning about people” x automated driving technology

In addition to the car's external conditions, Concept-i estimates the driver's condition using technology that understands people, and monitors the reliability of the driver and the car. For example, if the car's reliability is high and car support is deemed necessary, such as a situation in which the driver is overcome by a dangerous or high-stress situation, Concept-i switches to automated driving. Based on Toyota's “Mobility Teammate Concept” for automated driving, which aims to both watch over and assist drivers as needed, Concept-i guides with safety and security.

Furthermore, it supports the driver by stimulating the five senses, including vision, touch, and smell depending on the driver's emotion, degree of fatigue, and level of alertness to rouse drivers into an alert state when they feel drowsy, and to help drivers experiencing higher levels of stress feel more relaxed.

New Fun to Drive experiences (INSPIRE) “Learning about people” x agent technology

Concept-i engages in conversation based on the emotions and preferences of the driver. The car suggests topics of interest based on the mood of the driver, achieving a completely new style of two-way free conversation. In addition, it creates an “Emotion Map” by periodically mapping the driver's emotion and GPS data. By collecting data on individual emotions and using this information as big data, the Toyota Concept-i series can deliver fresh experiences by suggesting new, enjoyable routes as slight detours.

The vehicle design comprises a cabin with a forward projecting futuristic silhouette and a simple and open interior, and starting from the Agent located at the center of the instrument panel, the design theme flows from the inside out with seamless styling in which the design of the instrument panel continues to the body exterior. In addition, it provides a new user experience through intuitive HMI interaction with the Agent using a 3D-HUD (head-up display).

Toyota plans to have the Toyota Concept-i on the road by around 2020 and conduct road tests of vehicles equipped with some of the concept car’s functions from this exhibition in Japan.

Toyota Concept-i RIDE

A small mobility vehicle that emphasizes universality based on the concept of "user-friendly city mobility." It features gull-wing doors, an electric universal sliding seat, and a joystick, achieving user-friendly operation for wheelchair users.

The seat layout and automated driving functions make it possible for anyone to drive safely and securely.

Use with sharing services is also envisioned. By sharing with more people, universal mobility is made easier to use.

Main Features

Universal specifications with usability for wheelchair users

The model features gull-wing doors that provide a large opening and an electric seat that slides to the entrance, so that even wheelchair users who feel uneasy when moving between the wheelchair and the car can transfer easily. Also, the opening and closing of the gull-wing door supports loading and unloading of the wheelchair, and the operation of the seat has been designed so that the wheelchair can be easily stored in the rear section.

In addition, a joystick is used, eliminating the steering wheel, accelerator and brake pedals, and the vehicle size enables wheelchair users to park and enter/exit a common parking space for one vehicle, with emphasis placed on easy operation while driving, and stopping or parking.

Moreover, the AI Agent, which is a feature of the Toyota Concept-i series, is positioned on the large-size display of the instrument panel and actively provides information that supports and enhances outings, such as the provision of information on barrier-free facilities.

Vehicles that provide safety and peace of mind

The driver's seat is positioned at the center when driving3. While parking and stopping, driving assistance functions such as automated parking and automated valet parking, are employed, allowing anyone, including not only wheelchair users but also elderly people, to drive safely with peace of mind.

Toyota also envisions the use of sharing services with the Toyota Concept-i RIDE. By sharing with many people access to universal mobility, which is currently accessible mainly on an individual ownership basis, Toyota aims to provide convenient mobility that can easily be used and accessed by anyone. The Toyota Concept-i RIDE provides safe, convenient, and enjoyable movement even at outside locations, using the AI Agent to disengage and re-engage with the driver across the vehicles in the series, thereby being together with the driver.

Toyota Concept-i WALK

■ With its compact size fitting in with walking areas and automated driving function, this mobility vehicle can increase the range of movement with safety and security.

■ Three wheels, a wheelbase variable mechanism, steering function, and a low floor make it easy to use and does not necessitate the use of specific clothing or footwear.

■ Use via sharing services and such at sightseeing spots and other locations is envisioned, providing support at outside locations.

Main Features

Drive safely on sidewalks in a vehicle fitting in with walking areas

It is possible to rotate on the spot within a length less than a person's stride and width less than a person's shoulder width. It is a compact vehicle taking up space equivalent to that of a pedestrian while walking. It also understands the driver based on conversation with the Agent and data obtained from sensors in the handles and guides the driver to a safe state depending on the situation. If the vehicle senses danger while driving, it will actively warn the driver and automatically take avoidance measures. Furthermore, three wheels and a wheelbase variable mechanism that corresponds to speed are used, thus ensuring stability when stopping and driving.

Easy for anyone to use

By using a steering function, riders do not need to operate the Toyota Concept-i WALK by shifting their body weight, which enables anyone to operate it easily. Thanks to the lowered floor, people can get on and off easily and ride without being restricted by their age, gender, or clothing, such as elderly people or women wearing skirts.

With the Toyota Concept-i WALK, Toyota envisions sharing services that take advantage of the characteristic of the “AI Agent” to disengage and re-engage with the rider across the vehicles in the series, thereby being together with the riders. The aim is for a mobility vehicle that can be used as part of short distance movement in coordination with other transportation facilities, such as use at outside locations and when walking around sightseeing spots.

1Tokyo Motor Show 2017 is to be held at Tokyo Big Sight in Tokyo's waterfront area from October 25 through November 5, with press days on October 25 and 26, a special-invitation day on October 26, a preview day on October 27 and general-public days from October 28 to November 5.

2Human Machine Interface. The name for methods, systems, and software designed to facilitate communication between humans and machines.

3When one person is riding

The theme of this year’s show is “Beyond the Motor.”

</pp:summary>

The Crown Concept is a concept vehicle developed in pursuit of driving performance and connected technology. It features the blend of the storied Crown tradition with its birth in 1955 and the innovation to be expected in the Crown in a next generation mobility society.

The features of the Crown Concept are as follows:

Innovative driving performance as part of Toyota’s pursuit of "Fun to Drive"

To offer customers the enjoyment of driving cars while pursuing a future mobility society, TMC has re-designed cars from scratch, including building the new Crown Concept on a platform based on Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), and has conducted testing in Nürburgring, Germany. In addition to responsive handling performance, driving stability is realized whether driving in low-speed areas or high-speed areas and whether on smooth surfaces or rough surfaces. The driver is in control, put at ease, and can enjoy the driving experience.

Pursuit of innovative evolution in order to fully realize connected technology as a service

Responding to an IoT society with complete implementation of Data Communication Modules (DCM)

Toyota hopes to provide new value to customers by utilizing big data that is acquired from DCMs installed in Toyota vehicles. The DCM will come standard in the commercial model of the Crown Concept.

From "safety realized by one car" to "safety realized by the whole city"

Toyota’s advanced technologies not only include automatic braking, but also ITS Connect, a connected technology service that keeps society safe as a whole through the sharing of information on things like traffic signals and other vehicles. Toyota has contributed to the early development of connected technology by participating in public and private demonstration experiments.

Enhancement of your driving lifestyle with big data

By utilizing the mobility service platform, Toyota aims to contribute to solving societal problems, for example, by reducing traffic jams in cities through the utilization of data on traffic congestion. Additionally, Toyota aims to diagnose vehicles remotely using vehicle data collected from DCMs to predict potential vehicular issues and the necessity for vehicular maintenance. Call centers provide quick and appropriate support and provide customers a sense of safety and security.

Toyota aims to offer a car that can continue to excite drivers, well into ownership, and believes that the remote technology unique to this connected car, as well as the utilization of a new mobility service, can provide an exciting evolution to the driving lifestyles of its customers. The commercial model of the Crown Concept is scheduled to be released around the summer of 2018.

The Tj Cruiser represents the harmonious balance between the roominess of a cargo van and the powerful design of an SUV.

</pp:summary>

The Tj Cruiser was designed for drivers with lifestyles where work and play dovetail seamlessly. The “T” in Tj Cruiser stands for “Toolbox” in reference to how the car can be used like a toolbox, while the “j” stands for “joy” in reference to the joy of visiting various places by car. The name “Cruiser,” which is traditionally used for Toyota’s SUV lineup, is assigned to the Tj Cruiser to express the power of the vehicle. Inside, the passenger seat can be reclined completely flat, and not only can the Tj Cruiser easily hold outdoor equipment, it can also store large items such as 3-meter long surfboards and bikes.

Design

The square-shaped cabin, similar to that of a van, exudes high utility. Meanwhile, the sturdy suspension realized by large SUV-sized tires (225/50/R20) is fused with a bold front. The Tj Cruiser symbolizes a new genre incorporating the strengths of a van with those of an SUV.

The hood, roof, and fenders use materials (with special coating) that resist scratches and dirt, even when objects accidentally come into contact with them.

Interior Space

The front and rear passenger seats can be reclined completely flat for storing long items up to 3 meters in length such as surfboards.

The backs of the seats and deck boards include numerous tie-down points to enable easy anchoring of items from small packages to longer objects. Moreover, the large opening of the back door makes for easy loading and unloading of large items such as bikes.

The seat cushion on the passenger seat directly behind the driver can be flipped up towards the front to create dedicated space for storing groceries or shopping items. The large openings of the sliding doors enable loading and unloading of large items from the sides and easy entry and exit for family members, as well.

Other Features
