</pp:summary>

The GR Supra GT4 is based on the GR Supra - TOYOTA GAZOO Racing’s first-ever global model released earlier this year - and is developed and produced by TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH（“TMG“）.

A three-litre in-line six cylinder engine with single twin-scroll turbocharger has been tuned to 320kW*3（430hp）with a 7-speed sports automatic transmission with paddle shift and the mechanical limited slip differential driving the rear wheels. An Akrapovič exhaust system will be fitted and Ravenol will provide first-fill lubricants.

The front splitter and rear wing are made of natural fiber composite, contributing to an overall weight of 1,350kg*3. Following the specification of the GR Supra road car, the front suspension will be MacPherson strut, and rear suspension will be multilink with KW dampers at the front and rear.

The braking system is enhanced through the use of a dedicated brake calliper for racing, six-piston front and four-piston rear, while running on Pirelli tires.

Safety will be a priority and the GR Supra GT4 will be installed with a high-strength roll cage on the lightweight steel body, and an FIA-standard racing seat with six-point harness. The interior will feature a carbon fiber instrumental panel with a display and steering wheel specifically designed for GT4 competition.

The contact company for each region of the GT4 vehicle sales and customer support (including sales for spare parts and engineer support) will be the following; TMG for Europe, TRD U.S.A., INC. (“TRD USA”) for North America, and TOYOTA CUSTOMIZING & DEVELOPMENT Co., Ltd. (“TCD”) for Japan/Asia. Please contact the listed company for how to apply for purchase. The planned car price is 175,000€（excluding tax, custom fee, logistic fee, etc.）.

*1 GT4 vehicles are sold to race participants and cannot be driven on public roads.

*2 Private customer teams purchase race cars from manufacturers that are modified versions of production vehicles and enter them into races.

*3 Subject to change depending on the SRO BOP (Balance of Performance).

</pp:summary>

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing confirmed today it will launch the GR Supra GT4, a race car for customer teams*1, in 2020. This comes on the back of growing customer expectations worldwide following the unveiling of the GR Supra GT4 Concept at the Geneva International Motor Show in March, and the participation of the GR Supra at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring in June. TOYOTA GAZOO Racing intends to strengthen its focus on customer motorsports in order to enable motorsports-lovers around the world to freely participate in races, and to develop ever-better cars using feedback gained through this race participation.

The GR Supra GT4*2 is a race car based on the GR Supra—TOYOTA GAZOO Racing’s first-ever global model, which was released earlier this year—and it is developed and produced by Toyota Motorsport GmbH.

The GT4 category is popular with private race teams around the world due to its low cost and ease of entry. GT4 cars are eligible to participate in a variety of races across the globe, including the Super Taikyu Series in Japan, the GT4 European Series and the VLN Endurance Championship Nürburgring in Europe, and the Michelin Pilot Challenge Series in the U.S.

The GR Supra already participates in the NASCAR Xfinity Series in North America and, from 2020, is scheduled to compete in the Super GT GT500 Class in Japan. The arrival of the GR Supra GT4 will provide motorsports fans with the joy of watching the GR Supra compete in circuits around the world.

In order to develop the GR Supra GT4, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing has joined forces with three technical partners: Akrapovič, Pirelli and Ravenol. Akrapovič will cooperate on developing motorsport-specific exhaust systems, while Pirelli will collaborate on tire development and Ravenol will provide lubricants.

Details regarding the specifications of the GR Supra GT4, including its selling price, sales area and release date, are scheduled to be announced later this year.

*1 Customer teams (also known as private teams) purchase race cars from manufacturers that are modified versions of production vehicles and enter them into races.

*2 GT4 is a category for production race cars based on SRO-regulated Grand Touring cars; it is positioned one rank below GT3.

It is a design and engineering study that explores how the newly launched fifth generation of the legendary Supra sports car might be developed as a competitive machine for international GT4 racing, accessible and affordable for privateer racers and small teams in line with Toyota’s worldwide support for grass-roots motorsport.

The road-going Toyota GR Supra has essential qualities that make it an attractive proposition for GT4 racing, with its perfectly balanced chassis, two-seater cabin, highly rigid and light weight body, rear-wheel drive and very low centre of gravity. The combination of the short wheelbase and wide track gives it an ideal 1.55 “golden ratio” for excellent stability and agility, which are valuable assets in a series where the regulations use a balance of performance calculation (adjusting weight according to engine power) to ensure even competition across the field.

The concept model, developed by TOYOTA GAZOO Racing, is instantly recognisable as a Supra and maintains the road car’s low, muscular shape, but with increased length and lowered height. A specially-designed front diffuser and rear wing have been added to the GR Supra GT4 Concept to improve airflow around the chassis, reducing drag and optimising downforce. Both items are constructed using composites made from natural fibres such as hemp and flax, replacing the traditional carbon fibre in order to reduce the impact on the environment. Original alloy wheels have been replaced by five-hole OZ 11 x 18in racing wheels.

The MacPherson strut front and multilink rear suspension design is carried over, but with the addition of competition springs, shock absorbers and anti-roll bars. The high-power deceleration required for racing is provided by high-performance Brembo brakes.

Under the bonnet, the GR Supra GT4 Concept retains the 3.0-litre straight-six-cylinder petrol engine with single twin scroll turbocharger, coupled to an automatic transmission. Performance is increased with help from a motorsport-grade ECU and bespoke wiring looms. There are also motorsport-specification drive shafts and limited slip differential.

The stripped-out cabin is fitted with a high-strength roll cage and FIA-standard fire extinguisher and OMP racing seat. The concept car is also equipped with a motorsport-specific fuel tank and a fast refuelling system.

GT4 is one of the world’s fastest-growing motorsports categories, with national and regional competitions in Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania. Established since 2006 and sanctioned by the FIA, it is designed to be a value-for-money series for both professional and amateur racers, and a potential stepping-stone to GT3 competition.

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing will evaluate the interest shown by potential customers in the Supra GT4 Concept before deciding on future development of the vehicle.

Toyota GR Supra GT4 Concept technical specifications

Chassis

Length

4,460mm

Width

1,855mm

Height

1,250mm

Weight

Not disclosed at this time

Construction

Steel body with high-strength roll cage

Front diffuser

Natural fibre composite

Rear wing

Natural fibre composite

Fuel tank

Motorsport specification with fast refuelling system

Driver’s seat

FIA-standard OMP racing seat

Engine & transmission

Type

In-line six-cylinder, single twin-scroll turbocharger

Displacement

2,998 cm3

Max. power

Not disclosed at this time

Max. torque

Not disclosed at this time

Transmission

Automatic, rear-wheel drive

Differential

Motorsport-specification limited-slip differential

Driveshafts

Motorsport specification

Suspension, steering & brakes

Front suspension

MacPherson strut

Rear suspension

Multilink

Coil springs, shock absorbers, anti-roll bars

Motorsport specification

Steering

Electro-hydraulic, rack and pinion

Brakes

Brembo racing brakes

Wheels

OZ five-hole 11 x 18in

toyota news,2019 geneva,2019 supra,2019 concept gr-supra-gt4,GR Supra
