Connected services will deliver added-value to day-to-day operations and available to every grade of the PROACE family from start of sales.

In keeping with Toyota’s multi-pathway approach to carbon neutrality, all PROACE family vehicles are offered as battery electric vehicles (BEV) delivering zero tailpipe emission performance without sacrificing practicality and reliability.

By offering electrified options throughout the Toyota Professional product line-up, Toyota emphasises its belief that customers need a variety of affordable and practical options to accelerate the pace of CO² reduction today, helping to ensure a successful transition to zero emission mobility in the future.

All Toyota Professional vehicles feature the latest Toyota Safety Sense technology, assisting the driver and providing additional peace of mind.

INTRODUCING THE HEAVY-DUTY TOYOTA PROACE MAX

As the biggest vehicle in the Toyota Professional line-up, the heavy duty PROACE MAX is available in six configurations, featuring two wheelbases, three lengths and three heights for multiple load-carrying options. In its largest specification the PROACE MAX Electric has a best-in-class cargo capacity of 17 m³.

Loading and unloading is straightforward thanks to full height doors and a practical square opening, with low threshold for easy access. For the first time on a Toyota, the doors open 270 degrees, maximising the kerbside loading space and access to the cabin.

The latest battery electric technology provides the comfort of zero emissions driving with the practicality of up to 420km (WTLP standard) range.

The PROACE MAX platform leads the way for conversions too, with Toyota’s uncompromising quality standards at its heart. It is available in as a one-way or three-way tipper and dropside configurations, including the optional Chassis, Platform and Crew Cab lay-out with two rows of seating.

MODERN PRACTICALITY WITH PROACE AND PROACE CITY

The versatile PROACE and PROACE CITY vehicles feature eye-catching visual updates and the latest technology in both van, PROACE VERSO and PROACE CITY VERSO passenger configurations, emphasising the exhaustive variety of practical solutions within the Toyota Professional line-up.

The PROACE van comes with best-in-class powertrain options with the EV battery delivering a 20km increase in range of up to 350km. The PROACE also has the load carrying to match its performance, thanks to a capacity of up to 6.6 m³ and a best-in-class payload of up to 1,400kg, while in PROACE VERSO configuration the vehicle comfortably seats up to nine passengers.

Load carrying is a standout attribute of the practical PROACE CITY, which leads its class in load and passenger carrying. The van cleverly utilises the available space to hold 4.4 m³ of load volume and up to 1,000kg of cargo, depending on powertrain. The latest EV battery technology also delivers a best-in-class range of 330km, a 50km increase from the current generation. All van variants comfortably seat three front passengers while the seven-seat PROACE CITY VERSO offers enhanced passenger carrying capacity.

HILUX 48V HYBRID ENHANCES AN UNSTOPPABLE ICON

The Toyota Professional line-up also expands with the addition of the new Hilux Hybrid 48V, which benefits from improved fuel efficiency and enhanced driving performance, further enhancing the pick-up’s formidable capabilities on and off road.

As well as the Hilux’s legendary durability and reliability, the Hilux Hybrid 48V has improved throttle response and linear acceleration, with enhanced off-road performance too via smoother acceleration when navigating rough terrain and regenerative braking on downhill sections.

Driving enhancements come with no compromise on towing and payload capacity, which remain exceptional at 3,500kg and 1,000kg respectively.

COMPLETE CUSTOMER CARE

The enhanced Toyota Professional line-up represents a renewed commitment to commercial vehicles and Toyota aims to continue its year-on-year sales volume increase in this sector, which amounted to 119,000 vehicles in 2022, and are on track to set new sales records this year.

Toyota intends to achieve this via a comprehensive vehicle line-up allied to a strong focus on customer service, which includes competitive finance and insurance, warranties and roadside assistance provided by Toyota Financial Services, KINTO and Toyota Insurance Services for peace of mind as well as courtesy vehicles to keep customers on the road and at work.

To enhance the experience from purchase through ownership, newly developed Toyota Professional Centres will provide dedicated commercial vehicle expertise and servicing facilities.

An updated accessory range includes practical carrying and storage solutions, as well as security and protection options for added peace of mind.

Further details about Toyota Professional products and services will be unveiled at the 2023 Toyota Kenshiki Forum later this month.

Note: All performance data of the New PROACE MAX, PROACE, PROACE CITY and Hilux Hybrid 48V is subject to homologation. Final specifications will be confirmed at the full product launch.

The new range, to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2021, offers customers an impressive breadth of choice: panel vans and five- to seven-seat Verso people carriers in standard (4.4 m) and long (4.75 m) wheelbase variants, and a long-wheelbase, five-seat Crew Cab. Following on from the recent launch of the Proace Electric and Proace Verso Electric medium-duty van and people carrier, it strengthens Toyota’s position in vehicle electrification.

Practicality is assured, too, with the EV models matching the load capacity of the Proace CITY models, with up to 4.4 m3, plus up to 800 kg payload and 750 kg towing capacity.

The potential for success is clear, with annual compact EV van sales having doubled since 2017 to almost 20,000 units, with the market growing four times faster rate than for medium-duty EV van sales. The new models are ideally suited to fleet and small businesses who need capable, reliable transport they can use to access the increasing number of urban low and zero-emission zones, and from customers keen to improve their environmental profile.

Proace CITY Electric thus has great potential to help Toyota achieve its target of a powertrain mix of more than 10% zero-emissions in Europe by 2025. The new model will have a phased introduction in Europe, beginning with France, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom from the fourth quarter of 2021. Other markets will follow in the course of the year and in 2022.

Powertrain and Performance

All Proace CITY Electric models are powered by a 136 DIN hp/100 kW electric motor, driving the front wheels. The powertrain also features a lithium-ion battery, integrated DC/DC charger/converter, high-voltage connection box, ondulator and reductor.

The lithium-ion battery is located beneath the load compartment floor, avoiding intrusion in the load space. With 216 cells organised in 18 modules, it has a 50 kWh capacity. This enables a targeted WLTP driving range of between 260 and 280 km when fully charged, and a top speed of 135 km/h. In Power mode, acceleration from 0-100 km/h can be accomplished between 11.2 and 11.7 seconds depending on the version, and from 80 to 120 km/h between 8.9 and 9.4 seconds depending on the version.

Efficient Charging Options

All Proace CITY Electric models are equipped as standard with a 7 kW single-phase on-board charger (OBC), or can be optionally specified with an 11 kW tri-phase charger. Type 2 cables for connection to a domestic power supply or a wallbox charging system are also supplied.

With the single-phase 7 kW OBC, a full battery charge can be accomplished in 7.5 hours. With the three-phase 11 kW OBC, charging time can be reduced to just 5 hours. When the vehicle is connected to a pubic or business 100 kW DC fast charger, an 80% charge can be achieved in just 30 minutes.

Charging status is indicated by a lighting system around the inlet socket, located in the rear left-side wing. When the cover is opened and the cable is attached, white illumination signals the vehicle is in stand-by mode, ready for charging to start; when charging is in progress, this changes to a green flashing light, then solid green when charging is complete. A red light indicates there is a defect or problem; a blue light indicates that a charging session has been scheduled.

Battery Cooling

Effective battery temperature management is key to maintaining performance and driving range, in cold and hot conditions. The Proace CITY Electric’s lithium-ion battery uses a glycol water-cooling system that is refreshed by a cold loop device and warmed by an electric heater. This helps maintain battery charging time and efficiency and ensures optimal battery performance across a wide temperature spectrum, from -40 to +55˚C.

E-toggle and Drive Mode Selector

In place of a gear shift, the Proace CITY Electric has an e-toggle control on the centre console to engage Park and select Drive, Neutral and Reverse. There is also a “B” switch to gain additional regenerative braking energy to help charge the battery each time the driver takes their foot off the accelerator pedal.

Eco, Normal and Power drive modes can be selected using a switch alongside the e-toggle, to suit the driver’s preference, the load being carried and driving conditions. In each mode, the motor’s power and torque are adjusted; in Power and Eco modes the throttle mapping is also changed. Peak output in Power mode is 100 kW with 260 Nm of torque; in Normal the output is 80 kW with 210 Nm; and in Eco (appropriate when carrying heavy loads), the levels are reduced to 60 kW and 180 Nm.

An electronic parking brake is also fitted as standard.

Practicality Assured

The introduction of battery electric power doesn’t compromise Proace CITY Electric’s practicality. The load space extends to 4.4m³ on models where the clever Smart Cargo system is specified, with extra storage capacity gained through a folding passenger seat mechanism and through-loading facility. Maximum payloads are 800 kg for the standard wheelbase version (L1) and 750 kg for the long wheelbase model (L2); both vans can tow braked loads of up to 750 kg.

The compact vans are offered with two individual front seats or driver’s seat plus a two-seat bench. The Verso gives excellent flexibility, with five and seven-seat configurations for both wheelbase lengths. The Crew Cab model (L2 long wheelbase only) can accommodate five people on board.

Model Grades and Equipment

The Proace CITY Electric range mirrors the grades of the Proace CITY range, across both van and Verso models, offering the same equipment specifications for practicality, safety, comfort and convenience.

The compact van is available in Base and Comfort specifications. The entry-level version is a straightforward, workhorse model, focused on practicality and low cost of ownership. The Comfort version will additionally provide side door-loading, larger 16-inch wheels with covers and the Smart Cargo load-extending system.

Proace CITY Verso Electric will likewise follow the grade structure of the Proace CITY models with Combi, Shuttle, Family and Family+ versions, the latter a high-specification model equipped with a colour head-up display, satellite navigation and 17-inch alloy wheels.

In addition to the e-toggle and drive mode selector, all models will feature additional EV-specific functions in the 10-inch TFT multi-information display, including battery capacity and power consumption data. Owners can also use the MyT app to access connected services via their smartphone. This allows remote operation of the air conditioning system (to pre-heat or cool the cabin prior to a journey), battery status monitoring and management of remote charging and the vehicle’s charging schedule.

Extensive Safety and Driver Assistance Systems

Both the Proace CITY Electric van and Verso models benefit from the wide-ranging active safety systems of Toyota Safety Sense that are the most comprehensive in their class. Features include active and post -collision braking systems, Lane Keep Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition with intelligent speed assist, driver attention warning, trailer stability control, high beam assist, blind spot detection and Advanced Grip Control with Hill Ascent/Descent Control.

Driver assistance is also impressive, with the availability of parking sensors, a rear-view camera, and, for the van, the Visiopark 180-degree system for an all-round, bird’s eye view of the vehicle’s immediate surroundings.

Following PROACE Van and Verso Electric medium-duty announcements, Toyota will add BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) versions of PROACE CITY in the Toyota Professional commercial vehicle range.

This valuable mobility option will be available with a 50kWh lithium-ion battery providing maximum output of 136 DIN hp, ensuring smooth operations in low emission zones. All PROACE CITY Electric versions are fitted with 7.4 kW single-phase onboard charger as standard and optional 11 kW three-phase if faster charging is needed.

The line-up will offer Compact and Long body lengths, and both utility-Van and Verso passenger variants to better suit customer needs for business, fleet and private use.

First customer deliveries of the Toyota PROACE CITY Electric will begin from autumn 2021.

Further details will be announced next year.

It boasts an impressive list of best-in-class qualities, not least where basic load-carrying ability is concerned. That goes for load volume, load length and payload performance, plus the bonus of a 1.5-tonne towing ability. The petrol and diesel powertrains, too, are the most efficient in the model’s segment across the board, in terms of both fuel economy and CO2 emissions – performance that contributes to PROACE City’s strong cost-of-ownership profile.

Toyota knows that for business people today, a van often has to serve as a mobile office as well as a means of transport. With top-quality connectivity features, impressive active safety systems and a cabin designed for flexibility and ease-of-use, PROACE City conveniently doubles as a well-equipped place of work.

PROACE City, developed in partnership with Groupe PSA, will make a critical contribution to Toyota’s growth targets for its renewed LCV line-up, alongside the Hilux pick-up and PROACE medium duty van, giving the company representation in 75% of the LCV market. It forms a perfect fit with the established PROACE MDV, in terms of size and load volume.

Toyota’s European LCV sales totalled 66,560 units in 2019, aiming to grow the LCV share of Toyota’s total European sales from 6 to 10%.

Toyota’s current range of PROACE medium duty vans and the “indestructible” Hilux pick-up give it representation in 37% of the LCV market at present, but the introduction of the PROACE CITY in 2020 will bring the brand into the valuable compact van segment. This currently accounts for more than one third (35.4%, 822,000 annual sales) of the LCV market, Overall. Toyota predicts the LCV market as a whole will reach 2.5 million annual sales by 2020.

Toyota makes a robust entry into the compact van market with PROACE City boasting best-in-class qualities in terms of cargo length, cargo volume, payload and towing capability. The van is available in short (4,403 mm) and long (4,753 mm) forms – the latter being both longer overall and having a longer wheelbase (2,975 vs 2,785 mm).

Where body styles are concerned, the PROACE City can be specified as a panel or glass van, a crew cab, and as a versatile passenger vehicle.

Both the short and long versions have a cargo area that’s big enough to accommodate two Europallets – capacity that’s rare in the segment. Respective load volumes are 3.3 and 3.9m³, while the one-tonne payload is up to 350 kg greater than some rivals.

If that carrying ability isn’t sufficient, PROACE City also has a best-in-class towing ability, hauling loads of up to 1.5 tonnes with a braked trailer.

Smart Cargo

PROACE City is available with either two individual front seats or a three-seat bench, the latter additionally offering a Smart Cargo option, a handy space-busting feature that’s been adopted from the larger PROACE medium duty van.

The Smart Cargo system uses a folding outer passenger seat and a hatch in the bulkhead to gain an extra 0.4 m³ of load space and to increase maximum load length by 1.3 m so that items such as ladders and piping can be carried with ease. With Smart Cargo, the short version of PROACE City adds best-in-class load volume to its list of segment-leading qualities.

The system also allows the centre passenger seatback to be rotated to create a handy desk space, together with additional under-seat storage.

Easy access

Accessing the load space is made simple with a choice of asymmetrical rear doors (glazed or unglazed) or a top-hinged tailgate with a handy opening window.

The van can also be fitted with a rear hatch in the roof when longer items need to be carried. This is fitted with a cross-bar that can support up to 100kg.

Crew Cab

The Crew Cab version of PROACE City has all the same hallmarks of usefulness, fitted with a split-folding three-seat bench behind the front seats. When these seats aren’t needed, they can be folded flat to the floor and the mesh bulkhead can be moved forwards, maximising the load space.

The line-up of two 1.2-litre petrol and four 1.5-litre diesel units covers a power spectrum from 75 to 130 DIN hp and delivers best-in-class performance in terms of both fuel economy and CO2 emissions across the board. For the petrol units, the official figures are from 5.4 l/100 km and 123 g/km, and for the diesels from 4.0 l/100km and 108 g/km.

The transmission choices are five and six-speed manual systems, plus an eight-speed automatic, available with both the petrol and diesel 130 DIN hp engines. The petrol/automatic combination is a particularly proposition for customers who spend most of their time in urban traffic.

The class-leading efficiency of every engine contributes to a strong total ownership cost profile for the new PROACE City. Fuel bills are lower; the low CO2 figures attract tax benefits; and maintenance schedules are up to 40,000 km/two years for diesel models and 25,000 km/two years for petrol versions, reflecting built-in reliability. All new PROACE City vans are covered by a comprehensive warranty package and residual values are expected to be strong, in line with those achieved by the PROACE medium-duty van.

Today’s business people need their van to be much more than simply a means of transport; often it also has to serve as their office when they are on the move. The new PROACE City reflects customer priorities for safety connectivity and ease of use with design and equipment features that raise the vehicle’s all-round practicality and functionality to a higher level.

Best-in-class safety features

PROACE City adopts some of the latest active safety and driver assistance systems found on passenger cars, ensuring the driver is warned of imminent collision risks and given automatic, immediate support to help avoid an accident or lessen the consequences if an impact happens. The provisions include some systems not found on any of the Toyota’s competitor models.

Three Safety Pack options are available, providing progressively higher and more sophisticated levels of protection. At entry level, Safety Pack 1 includes a Pre-Collision System, Road Sign Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Cruise Control and a “coffee cup” alert that recommends the driver takes a break if they have spent a long time at the wheel.

The content is increased in Safety Pack 2, with Automatic High Beam, Sway Warning and an extended Road Sign Assist system, while the most comprehensive Safety Pack 3 further adds Adaptive Cruise Control and a Blind Spot Monitor. All models also come with eCall for automatic connection with the emergency services in the event of a serious accident.

Safety and ease of manoeuvring are supported by a rear-view camera (part of the Visio Pack, available for both van and passenger versions) that provides both a 180-degree and overhead dynamic images of the area behind the vehicle, and a static view covering an even wider (180-degree-plus) area. A Blind Spot Monitor warns the driver of other road users moving in their blind spot with an alert in the display audio screen.

Smart Active Vision

PROACE City offers a higher level of driver support with its new Smart Active Vision system for the van range. This uses two dedicated cameras and a ceiling-mounted five-inch screen to relay a clear, real-time view behind and alongside the vehicle – effectively letting the driver see through the metal panels. A long-distance rear view can be selected when moving or stationary, or a short-distance view when reversing. The image displayed can also be switched to the blind spot on the passenger side of the vehicle, so that the driver can manoeuvre with confidence, aware of cyclists or hazards outside their line of sight.

Unique-in-class head-up display

PROACE City is the only model in its class to offer customers the option of a head-up display. This colour system, available both van and passenger versions, projects key vehicle data, including speed limits, current speed and safety warnings onto the base of the windscreen, directly in front of the driver.

Toyota Traction Select

For owners who regularly have to drive their van over rough ground, such as building sites, PROACE City is available with Toyota Traction Select. This adapts the vehicle’s performance to suit a range of different driving conditions. Using a rotary controller located next to the gear shift, the driver can switch between Normal, Snow, Sand and All-terrain modes, as the conditions demand.

Connectivity and infotainment

The package of connectivity and infotainment features available for the new PROACE City is another best-in-class offer, giving owners everything they need to keep in touch while on the move. Simple, central control of audio and smartphone functions is provided by an eight-inch touchscreen, with phone integration made easy via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Bluetooth and USB/Aux-in connects are also provided.

The system can be upgraded to provide navigation with 3D graphics, voice command control and connection to useful online services, such as route planning, local weather, parking and fuel availability and traffic information (via TomTom Traffic). Owners can also specify a wireless smartphone charger for their vehicle – another feature unique to PROACE City in its segment.

Making life easy

The new PROACE City has been designed for ease-of-use throughout, going beyond the fundamental benefits of its capacious, easy-to-access loadspace to cover the details that make for comfortable, relaxed day-to-day driving.

As an example, the electric parking brake isn’t just useful, it also frees up more legroom for the centre passenger when the three-seat front bench is fitted. The same kind of thinking has produced 16 different storage points around the cabin, ranging from a small coin holder and cup holders to a 15-litre space in the centre console.

Smart Load Indicator

The Smart Load Indicator takes all the guesswork out of calculating when the PROACE City’s load limit has been reached. Another unique feature, this smart system monitors the shock absorber compression and indicates when 90% of the load weight limit has been reached. When the maximum load has been reached or exceeded, a warning is triggered in the driver’s instrument binnacle.

PROACE City is also available in passenger car form, a version that will appeal to customers who have to use their vehicle for business and for personal transport. Once again, ingenious design allows for five or seven-seat configurations in both the short and long versions.

The second row seats can be specified as a 60:40 split-folding bench, or as three individual seats, each one fitted with Isofix fixings – a unique option in the vehicle’s class. The second row seats and front passenger seat can both be folded flat and two seats in the third row can be removed, maximising load space when the vehicle is being used for business purposes.

The clever touches include under-seat and under-floor storage and an adjustable shelf in the boot which can be moved between two different positions. Strong enough to take loads up to 25 kg, it can keep fragile items separate from other cargo. It is also easy to access, thanks to the opening window in the tailgate.

Options for the passenger version include a panoramic roof, ambient cabin lighting, LED reading lights and aircraft-style storage lockers in the roof.

MAIN VEHICLE DIMENSIONS

MANOEUVRABILITY

Developed in collaboration with Groupe PSA, the PROACE CITY will join the established PROACE medium duty van and legendary Hilux pick-up in building Toyota’s LCV market presence, competing in a segment that’s enjoying steady growth and on course to achieve around 900,000 annual sales by 2021.

The new model provides a perfect fit with the PROACE range in terms of size and payloads. Launched in 2016, PROACE is approaching a five per cent share of the medium duty van market and is on course to record around 30,000 sales in Europe in 2019.

Performance and capabilities: size, space and performance

The PROACE CITY range meets a wide range of business needs, with different loading and seating configurations and powertrain options.

The compact van is presented in two different lengths – short at 4.4m and long at 4.7m. Both can be specified with three front seats, and as panel or glass vans; the long version is also available as a crew cab. The passenger version is offered with five or seven seats both in the short and long version.

The dimensions and packaging give the PROACE CITY excellent load capacity, with maximum volume from 3.3m³ (short model) to 4.3m³ (long version with Smart Cargo option). Notably the Toyota is one of few vehicles in its class that can accommodate two Europalettes. Adding the option system Smart Cargo gives best-in-class load length capability of 3.1m for the short version and 3.4m for the long, while the PROACE CITY’s maximum payload is another class-best figure at one tonne (both versions). For those who need to carry even greater or heavier loads, the van can tow braked trailers up to 1.5 tonnes. Asymmetrical rear doors (glazed or unglazed) or a top-hinged tailgate can be specified.

The choice of petrol and diesel powertrains offers a power spread from 75 to 130 DIN hp, and a choice of five or six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmissions.

The PROACE CITY range amply covers business and fleet customer requirements in the segment in terms of capability, versatility, performance and efficiency, ensuring it can realise its potential to strengthen Toyota’s position in the LCV market.

In the crew cab version, when the second row seats are not being used, the bench can be folded flat and the bulkhead moved forwards to increase load space. A hatch in the bulkhead can be opened to carry longer loads.

The PROACE CITY van can fitted with a rear hatch in the roof as another useful option when longer items need to be carried. This comes with a cross-bar that can support up to 100kg.

Clever and capacious storage points are featured throughout the cabin (according to model), ranging from coin and cup holders and open stowage areas, to an underseat drawer and spaces designed into the roof, doors and floor. In the passenger version, the panoramic roof option can specified with aircraft-style overhead storage in a locker and a central ‘floating’ arch structure that have a combined 74-litre capacity, accessible from the second row seats and the boot.

Access to the boot is made easy when parked in confined spaces, thanks to an opening window in the tailgate.

The PROACE CITY Verso offers flexible passenger accommodation, with the option of three individual seats or a 60:40 split-folding bench in the second row. Both in long and short forms, a third row can be added, large enough and with slide-adjustment to accommodate adults in comfort. When three separate second row seats are specified, each one has Isofix child seat mounts – another unique-in-class feature. All passenger seats fold flat, including the front seat, to maximise load capacity and convenience.

Safety, comfort and convenience with superior equipment features

The PROACE CITY benefits from equipment specifications that include a series of features, delivering enhanced safety, a comfortable driving environment and improved performance and practicality, both in van and Verso passenger vehicle versions.

The safety features provide high levels of active safety, meeting customer requirements in three different packs. As standard, these will include a Pre-Collision System, Road Sign Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Cruise Control and a “coffee cup warning” that recommends the driver takes a break if they have spent a long time at the wheel. The content is increased in as second pack with Automatic High Beam, Sway Warning and an extended Road Sign Assist system, while the most comprehensive package will further add Adaptive Cruise Control and a Blind Spot Monitor. All models will also come with eCall for automatic connection with the emergency services in the event of a serious accident.

Where multimedia and connectivity are concerned, PROACE CITY is equipped with an eight-inch touchscreen to access audio and smartphone functions, with MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay (including Siri assistant) and Android Auto (including Google assistant), plus Bluetooth, and USB/Aux-in connections. It can be used with navigation and online functions, including 3D mapping, voice command recognition and connected traffic information (via Tomtom Traffic).

The PROACE CITY is also offering a head-up display, presenting key driving information, such as navigation, speed limits and safety functions comfortably and clearly in the driver’s forward sightline.

Safety and ease of manoeuvring are supported by a rear-view camera that provides both a 180-degree and overhead dynamic images of the area behind the vehicle, and a static view covering an even wider (180-degree-plus) area. A Blind Spot Monitor warns the driver of other road users moving in their blind spot with an alert in the display audio screen.

A higher level of driver support is provided by Smart Active Vision. This uses two dedicated cameras and a ceiling-mounted five-inch screen to relay a clear, real-time view behind and alongside the vehicle – effectively letting the driver see through the metal panels. A long-distance rear view can be selected when moving or stationary, or a short-distance view when reversing. The view can also be switched to the blind spot on the passenger side of the vehicle.

The PROACE CITY’s performance can be adapted to tackle different driving conditions with Toyota Traction Select. Using a rotary controller, the driver can choose between Normal, Snow, Sand and All-terrain modes. Van users can keep a check on their payload with a Smart Load Indicator – another feature unique in the PROACE CITY’s class – that warns when 90 per cent of the maximum weight is reached and adds an alert in the combimeter when the maximum is exceeded.

Other advanced equipment features available for the PROACE CITY include a wireless smartphone charger, unique-in-class electric parking brake and, for the passenger version, a panoramic roof with electric shade and a parking assist system.

The new PROACE CITY will give Toyota a strong presence in the key compact van segment, increasing the breadth and appeal of its light commercial vehicle range.

The new PROACE CITY will join the PROACE medium duty van and Hilux pick-up to further strengthen Toyota’s presence in the European LCV market, where compact duty van sales account for approx. 35% of the total.

The new PROACE CITY is a further result of Toyota’s successful collaboration with Groupe PSA, a relationship that has already produced the PROACE medium duty van family.
