With a global reputation for exceptional toughness established across seven decades and with more than 27 million sales to its credit, it might be thought Hilux has little left to achieve. An icon of Toyota Quality, Durability and Reliability, it has taken all challenges in its stride.

There are new horizons to explore, however. The all-new, ninth generation Hilux breaks fresh ground in technology and design while retaining the exceptional performance capabilities that have long made it a leading player in the European pick-up market and the top seller in the Toyota Professional light commercial line-up.

Hilux adopts a Double Cab body style and all-wheel drive across the board – 4WD for the Hybrid 48V and permanent all-wheel drive for the BEV - reflecting customer preference. While retaining similar packaging and dimensions to its predecessor, it presents powerful new styling with a Tough x Agile design concept. The all-new cabin provides sensory quality, comfort and equipment specifications beyond anything previously offered in a Hilux. There is a focus on practicality, too, with 4WD controls – including new Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) and Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM) on higher grades – centrally grouped to be easily accessible when driving off-road.

TOYOTA MULTIPATH STRATEGY IN ACTION

The range of powertrains demonstrates the scope of Toyota’s multipath strategy. This product approach gives customers different options appropriate for their needs and their access to energy sources and infrastructure, helping them make meaningful and sustainable reductions in emissions towards the goal of carbon neutrality.

The 2026 line-up includes:

• Hilux BEV, Toyota’s first body-on-frame vehicle to use a battery electric powertrain, addressing the growing requirements for zero-emission performance, while retaining the essential strength and quality that define Hilux.
• Hilux 2.8 Hybrid 48V, featuring Toyota’s diesel mild hybrid powertrain.
• Hilux ICE, with a new 2.8-litre diesel (replacing the previous 2.4-litre unit) and the established 2.7-litre petrol engine, to be launched in Eastern European markets.

Moreover, Toyota has confirmed that the Hilux range will be further extended to include a hydrogen fuel cell model, reinforcing the model’s multipath powertrain profile and Toyota’s commitment to developing clean energy solutions. The fuel cell Hilux is expected to be launched in 2028.

With the planned introduction of Hilux FCEV, Hilux will offer more powertrain choices than any other Toyota model currently on the market.

TOUGH X AGILE EXTERIOR DESIGN

• All-new frontal design expresses strength and agility
• New wheel designs and wider choice of paint colours
• Dimensions and packaging aligned with the previous model

The design of the all-new Hilux – both inside and out – marks a step up from the previous generation, giving the model new proportions and an unmistakeable identity.

Working to a Tough x Agile design concept, Toyota has produced a bold and commanding look that expresses both the model’s rugged performance heritage and more dynamic, contemporary appeal.

The frontal treatment makes an immediate impact with slim new headlight units linked by a central bar bearing the TOYOTA name in classic style. Below, the grille has a distinctive, modern look with a wide hexagonal mesh pattern, finished in the vehicle’s body colour to create a fully integrated impression. Strong angular detailing can also be seen in the fog lamp bezels, the arching of the upper bumper, the wheel arch trims, the side step tread surface and the alloy wheel designs. 

The design takes convenience and the needs of both professional and private users into account as well, including new rear side steps, wider side steps and a revised rear step for easier access to the load area.

The Hybrid 48V line-up comprises four equipment grades: Entry, Mid, High and the range-topping Invincible. For the Hilux BEV the choices at launch are Entry, Mid and High. The new alloy wheel designs are 17-inch rims finished in matt black for Mid-grade, 18-inch with diamond-cut sections over gloss back spokes for High grade and 18-inch black seven-spoke wheels for the Invincible. These are styled for aerodynamic efficiency and are lightweight, saving about 1 kg per wheel compared to the previous designs. New tyre patterns have also been introduced that give quieter performance. The BEV uses aero-tuned, directional 17-inch wheels with premium diamond-cut facets.

To give Hilux more individuality, the Hybrid 48V is available with eight exterior colour options, including new Sulphur metallic – the signature finish for the top-of-the-range Invincible model – and Storm Grey. At launch, the Hilux BEV offers three body colour choices.

The all-new Hilux's packaging closely matches that of the previous generation. Principal exterior dimensions for the Hybrid 48V are: overall length 5,320 mm, overall width 1,855–1,885 mm (depending on grade; wider on Mid-grade and above due to overfenders), overall height 1,865 mm, and wheelbase 3,085 mm. The Hilux BEV shares the same length and wheelbase, with a fixed overall width of 1,855 mm and a slightly lower 1,845 mm overall height.

ALL-NEW INTERIOR WITH UNPRECEDENTED QUALITY AND COMFORT

The Double Cab interior is completely new and follows the same Tough x Agile design principle as the exterior. In the most significant upgrade in Hilux’s history, sensory quality has been taken to a higher level. The overall look and feel of the space are influenced by the new Land Cruiser, creating family feeling between the two global legends of Toyota body-on-frame engineering.

Measures to raise the level of onboard comfort include a new padding material and a thicker upholstery covering for the front seat cushions. The eight-way power adjustable seats on higher grade models have a longer cushion section and feature new padding with superior pressure distribution quality. A new head rest design provides enhanced protection against whiplash injury in the event of a rear-end collision.

The central feature is a slim and lightweight new instrument panel, finished (on higher grade models) in a premium, hard-wearing synthetic leather with single-stitch detailing. It houses a larger, high definition 12.3-inch Toyota Smart Connect multimedia display, positioned immediately above the air conditioning control panel. The Entry grade model features a nine-inch Toyota Touch 3 display.

The driver enjoys an improved forward view with a lower meter hood, above a digital combimeter – 12.3 or seven-inch according to equipment grade – offering greater functionality and versatility compared to the previous 4.2-inch muti-information display.

The new 12.3-inchcombimeter can be customised to suit driver preference with Casual, Smart, Tough or Sporty design themes and three layouts with one, two or three dials. Smart, Tough and Sporty options are available with the seven-inch version.

Easy smartphone integration is enabled on all Hilux versions with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto and a wireless charger is provided on higher grades.

Smart storage

The instrument panel houses both a locking glove box and an upper cooled box, large enough to hold two 600ml drink bottles. There are also new-design cupholders on the left and right side with a fully flat lid that opens with a simple push-rotate action and can safely hold a drinks bottle or medium-size coffee cup.

Multi-function centre console

The new centre console is wider and, on higher grade models, 35 mm taller, matching the height of the door arm rest thanks to an increase in the height of the console storage box lid. The lid is also longer so that it can serve as a comfortable arm and elbow rest for people of all body sizes. The size of the storage box itself has increased to 5.7 litres.

A 4WD control area beneath the air conditioning panel groups all the 4WD system switches together for quick, clear operation when driving off-road. Similarly, a separate section lower on the console accommodates shift selector – a new shift-by-wire control for the BEV – electronic parking brake (where fitted) and other drive control switches.

Two USB-C ports are provided in the centre console for device charging and connection. On higher grade models, there is a front wireless smartphone charger and two further USB ports for rear seat passengers.

New-design steering wheel

The steering wheel is a permanent point of contact between driver and car, so Toyota has refined the design with a focus on providing the most comfortable grip and control, introducing thinner spokes and heating that extends around the entire circumference.

Reflecting the Tough x Agile design theme, the centre boss has a new bezel and prominent TOYOTA emblem. The steering wheel switches have also been redesigned and grouped for intuitive use – infotainment functions to the left, driving assistance features to the right and audio controls to the bottom.

HILUX HYBRID 48V

• Toyota’s Hybrid 48V system the principal powertrain for the all-new Hilux
• Diesel mild hybrid provides quieter and smoother acceleration and stop-start performance
• Electric Power Steering (EPS) adopted for the first time in Europe
• Maximum power remains 204 DIN hp / 150 kW with 500 Nm peak torque
• Hilux also retains its impressive load-carrying capability – payload in excess of 1,000 kg and 3,500 kg towing capacity – and exceptional off-road strength
• Off-road performance supported by availability of new Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) system and Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM) systems

Toyota’s Hybrid 48V powertrain was introduced in the eighth generation Hilux in 2025. Carried forward into the all-new Hilux, it is newly available in all equipment grades – Entry, Mid, High and Invincible – securing a wider market reach with entry-level customers also able to enjoy its technology and performance benefits. It fulfils a wide range of customer requirements, from dependable, powerful workhorse to comfortable and well-equipped transport for day-to-day and leisure use.

Performance and efficiency

The Hybrid 48V’s performance parameters are largely unchanged and delivers improved fuel economy and lower emissions compared to the previous 2.8 diesel. Fuel economy is 9.7-10.0 l/100 km and CO2 emissions are rated at 254-262 g/km (WLTP combined data).

The DOHC 16-valve unit generates a maximum 204 DIN hp / 150 kW at 3,400 rom and produces 500 Nm of torque between 1,600 and 2,800 rpm. Payload is in excess of 1,000 kg and the towing capacity for braked trailers is 3,500 kg.

The mild hybrid system combines Hilux’s well-proven 2.8-litre diesel engine with an electric motor-generator, a 48V lithium-ion battery (housed beneath the rear seats) and a DC-DC power converter. The hybrid components were designed for simple integration and are located so they do not affect Hilux’s off-road performance. For example, the motor-generator is positioned high on the engine, so a 700 mm wading capability is maintained. Likewise, the motor-generator’s drive belt has a fabric layer that absorbs water and maintains consistent tension, even when wet.

The compact electric motor-generator is driven by the engine and charges the hybrid battery. Its benefits include a regenerative braking function recovering energy when the driver comes off the accelerator pedal. Combined with engine braking, this saves fuel, makes driving easier and gives natural-feeling deceleration.

The motor-generator’s operating status is indicated in the driver’s multi-information display with a read-out showing CHG (energy regeneration), ECO and PWR (providing assistance to the engine in both cases).

The stop-start system delivers a more comfortable drive in traffic, with the 48V Hybrid system enabling quicker and quieter restart response.

The electric motor-generator operates in place of a conventional starter motor and is always connected which means restart is enabled even at high engine speeds and there is less delay in immediate restarts after stopping. Progress is also smoother when travelling off-road, over rough ground.

Electric Power Steering (EPS)

The introduction of Electric Power Steering (EPS) provides faithful response, easier manoeuvring on and off-road and less risk of kick-back when driving over rough surfaces. It is tuned for light steering feel for agile manoeuvring at low speeds with increased weighting for stable and less fatiguing performance at high speeds.

Compared to the previous hydraulic system, the EPS is energy-efficient, using electric power only when turning assistance is needed, not when the vehicle is idling or moving in a straight line, further enhancing fuel economy.

Strengthened frame

To maintain the highest crash safety standards, the Hilux’s frame has been developed to provide an even higher level of energy absorption and deformation in the event of an impact, taking the increase in the vehicle’s weight into account. The thickness of the side rails has been increased and the front crossmembers have been adjusted to accommodate the new EPS system and front differential installation. With the increase in front axle load, the suspension towers have an additional fitting point and a thicker body.

Suspension

The all-new Hilux retains its suspension set-up from the previous generation, with independent front suspension front double wishbones front MacPherson struts and a rigid rear axle with leaf springs. Adjustments have been made to maintain strength and durability with the increase axle load, including revised shock absorber damping force and tuning of the leaf springs to reduce the transmission of shock to the body.

At the front, details include new spring rates, increased anti-roll bar rigidity, reshaped lower arms and a new compound has been for the bushes.

Ride comfort

While Hilux is rugged by nature, ride comfort remains a priority. There are new mounts for the engine and cabin which have multi-directional flexibility compared to the previous type.

Extra spot-weld points have been added – an extra 30 in the front floor and six more in the rear floor – to reduce vibration, achieve better damping and enhance the vehicle’s responsiveness.

Braking

For the first time, Hilux is equipped with an electronic parking brake, available on Mid-grade and above and standard on the BEV. This lightweight unit adds to the quality feel of the interior design while also contributing to fuel economy. Its adoption allows for the provision of new Toyota Safety Sense functions, including the Emergency Driving Stop System (EDSS) (further details in the safety and driving assistance chapter below).

The braking system features a new actuator which improves its controllability and durability and is compatible with operation of the Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) and Downhill Assist Control (DAC) systems.

Off-road performance

Exceptional, reliable off-road performance is a defining characteristic of the Hilux brand; and the ninth-generation model is true to that heritage.

Its ability to tackle the toughest conditions is supported by a 309 mm ground clearance and 500 mm of wheel articulation. When navigating slopes, the approach angle is 29° and the departure angle 24°.

Not only can Hilux wade through water 700 mm deep, it can also be kept stationary in those conditions for up to 10 minutes.

Secure progress with Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) and Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM)

According to equipment grade, the Hilux Hybrid 48V is equipped with the Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) system. This gives the driver a choice of up to five modes to adapt the vehicle’s performance to suit different off-road environments, working in conjunction with the all-wheel drive transmission’s H4 and L4 high and low ranges. An adapted MTS is also provided on the Hilux BEV, details in the BEV chapter below.

• Dirt: when driving on unpaved roads, vehicle speed and stability are the same as on paved surfaces. The system provides suitable tyre-ground contact feel on undulating or uneven road surfaces and appropriate driving force, even when towing.
• Sand: in H4 range, this mode prevents delivery of excessive drive force, to avoid the vehicle becoming stuck, while still providing enough drive for cruising. In L4 range, higher driving force is provided should the vehicle become stuck, or the sandy surface gives a high level of resistance.
• Mud: in this mode the wheels spin to help progress on muddy roads with very low grip levels. Higher driving force is provided in L4 range when the mud is deep enough to cover the tyres.
• Deep Snow: this mode can be used when making forward and reverse movements to tackle high snow bumps. When the snow is deep enough to cover the tyres, the system spins the wheels to create a snowplough effect. Moderate drive force is provided when starting off to prevent wheel spin. This mode is not intended for use when driving on packed snow road surfaces.
• Rock: this mode is suitable for driving over harsh, rocky terrain, suppressing tyre slippage. Should only two tyres be in contact with the ground, the system will transmit drive force to the other two wheels while simultaneously controlling vehicle speed.
• Auto: this automatically engages settings appropriate for the driving surface and conditions.

Safe manoeuvring is also supported by the Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM). Standard on the Hybrid 48V Invincible and optional on High grade, this uses an array of four cameras to provide a real-time 360-degree view of the area immediately around the vehicle. It can also provide an image of the ground beneath the vehicle, indicating the tyre position and path of travel. The driver can also zoom in on the image to obtain a more detailed understanding of the driving surface – particularly useful when navigating through rocks and boulders.

The images are supported by icons linked to the Hilux’s clearance sonars, which turn read when there is a risk of contact. There are also graphics representing each wheel; these will flash when an individual wheel is spinning. Further assistance is provided by an inclinometer, with separate views showing the vehicle’s pitch and roll angles.

A Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) is also available on selected equipment grades to help with precise manoeuvring in tight parking places.

HILUX BEV: A BREAKTHROUGH MODEL

• The first all-electric model is an authentic Hilux, with designed-in Quality, Durability and Reliability and genuine off-road capabilities
• Permanent all-wheel drive with efficient, lightweight front and rear eAxles that produce high torque
• High-capacity lithium-ion battery house within the vehicle’s frame, protected from damage and avoiding any loss of cabin or load space
• Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) system programmed for use in a BEV powertrain, adapting vehicle performance to suit different off-road conditions

A technical breakthrough

The BEV model is an integral part of the all-new ninth generation Hilux range, giving customers the option to enjoy the model’s exceptional Quality, Durability and Reliability with the critical benefit of zero tailpipe emissions. It is an authentic Hilux, powered by electricity.

It will enter a new and developing market for electric pick-ups, appealing primarily to businesses seeking to decarbonise their vehicle fleet and comply with increasingly stringent legislation while still enjoying rugged, reliable performance. Hilux BEV will be particularly suited to single-location operations, such as forestry, industrial complexes and infrastructure sites such as airports and ferry terminals. The model will also attract individual buyers – both small businesses and private buyers focused on leisure use.

Accommodating the new powertrain is not at the cost of Hilux’s ability to operate in the most challenging environments, nor the space inside the cabin and load bay. Off-road performance maintains the model’s reputation as a trusted partner that can take challenging terrain in its stride.

This is Toyota’s first use of BEV technology in a body-on-frame vehicle, a construction type that has been key to Hilux’s built-in strength and capabilities from the start. Moreover, this has been achieved without diluting the pick-up’s off-road prowess – for example, the exceptional 700 mm wading depth is equal to the capability of Hilux Hybrid 48V and ICE models.

There is a further breakthrough with the first application of Toyota’s Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) System in a BEV, which automatically adapts vehicle performance to suit different off-road conditions, from rock, sand and mud to dirt and – another BEV first – bumpy mogul surfaces.

Powertrain: energy-efficient eAxles

The powertrain comprises front and rear eAxles that combine an electric transaxle and inverter in a single compact and lightweight unit. They are engineered for optimum efficiency with detailed measures to reduce internal losses and energy lost as heat. To accommodate the eAxles, a new-design front crossmember and an additional rear crossmember have been added to the Hilux’s frame. The eAxles themselves are reinforced and fitted with undercovers to ensure they can withstand harsh off-road conditions. This strengthens the BEV’s profile as a capable vehicle for work duties, true to Hilux’s famous Quality, Durability and Reliability.

The inverter uses silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductors which can handle high voltages and are more efficient (up to 40%) than the traditional silicon type. The front eAxle produces 80 kW and 205 Nm of torque and the rear unit 128 kW 268 Nm, ensuring strong traction and control, particularly in demanding off-road conditions.

As the eAxles generate instant high torque, even at low speed, they are installed with high-stiffness mounts to ensure quietness, ride comfort and stability.

Permanent all-wheel drive (AWD)

The permanent all-wheel drive (AWD) system provides constant and precise control of drive torque delivery between the front and rear axles, in ratios from 100:0 and 0:100. It provides excellent acceleration at start-off and stable handling. When driving through bends, it supports a smooth change in direction on entry with clear steering feedback, with confident line tracing and acceleration in exiting.

New lithium-ion battery

The new battery has been designed specifically for installation within the Hilux’s frame. It is a 59.2 kWh water-cooled lithium-ion unit comprising 80 cells, arranged in five 16-cell modules in 5 modules. The battery’s location required a bespoke unit to be designed, but the length of the space allowed for the necessary number of modules to be housed.

Its operating temperature is controlled using a high-resistance, long-life coolant (LLC) which helps protect against corrosion and is resistant to conductivity – an important characteristic in high-voltage systems.

Robust battery protection for off-road driving

The requirement for the new Hilux BEV to be able tackle challenging off-road conditions called for specific measures to protect the battery from damage. A key consideration was the risk posed by excessive twisting forces in the frame when travelling over rough ground. Toyota met this challenge by designing flexibility into the frame and creating a new battery sub-frame that prevents the battery from being affected by torsional forces. The battery is attached to the low torsion area of the subframe by a patented diamond pattern of fastenings.

The battery is further protected by being located within the vehicle’s frame and by a robust undercover. The frame’s side rails are reinforced with aluminium impact-absorbing sections that provide extra protection in the event of a collision.

CAE simulations and physical testing were used to optimise the battery’s location, ensuring a perfect fit within the frame. The battery’s position helps secure a low centre of gravity, which in turn supports good stability and handling. The installation avoids intrusion in the Double Cab’s interior and load space.

Battery charging

Prompt, consistent charging performance is a key consideration for business customers who need to keep their vehicle’s downtime to a minimum. The Hilux BEV can be charged from 10 – 80% capacity within 30 minutes using a DC fast-charging system of 125 kW or more and CCS2 connection, subject to operating conditions such as the ambient temperature.

AC charging up to 10 kW, for example using a domestic or public wallbox, will deliver a 10 – 100% charge in around 6.5 hours.

Owners can programme smart charging for their Hilux, setting charging start times to suit their work timetable and personal preference, or to take advantage of lower-cost electricity during off-peak periods. They can also set a charging limit of between 50 and 90%.

The driving range is up to 257 km (WLTP combined) and up to 380 km on the city cycle, distances that amply cover the day-to-day requirements of the model’s target business customers, particularly for site-specific work such infrastructure installations and forestry.

QDR: designed-in and tested to the limit

Quality, Durability and Reliability – QDR – have been fundamental to Hilux’s enduring success and global reputation across successive model generations. Toyota’s prime concern was that the new BEV should maintain these essential characteristics and be an authentic Hilux, true to the model’s best traditions.

Thus, the BEV underwent the same rigorous testing programme as other models in the new Hilux range, together with additional tests specific to its electric powertrain. These included deep-water driving to confirm the pick-up’s 700 mm wading depth; high-speed water intrusion checks; off-road durability trials; and total immersion of the battery. To help safeguard against water entering the electric motor, the eAxle breather is set high up on the unit.

With the benefit of these tests, customers are assured Hilux’s essential QDR has not been sacrificed or compromised and their vehicle can be relied on – like any Hilux – to serve as a trusted and highly capable partner.

Electric power steering (EPS)

The Hilux BEV aligns with its mild hybrid sister model in adopting an electric power steering system (EPS, details above),

As with the Hybrid 48V, the BEV’s steering wheel has tilt and telescopic adjustment to help drivers achieve the most comfortable position.

Suspension: a new de Dion rear axle

Traditionally, a practical pick-up requires a rigid rear axle so there are minimal changes in alignment when the vehicle is loaded, combined with leaf springs that can maintain a stable ride height.

Introducing a battery electric powertrain into the equation created new challenges. Using a propshaft to the rear axle would compromise the size of the battery and thus the vehicle’s driving range; and locating a large rear motor in the space usually occupied by the rear differential would compromise ground clearance and increase the unspring mass, impacting ride comfort and handling stability

Toyota solution is a de Dion rigid axle with leaf springs. This allows the eAxle to be accommodated without risking damage or compromising the pick-up’s ability to tackle very rough terrain. As the eAxle can be mounted on the vehicle’s frame, there is a further benefit in a reduction in the unsprung mass.

Authentic off-road capabilities

From the outset, it was a requirement that the Hilux BEV’s off-road performance should be comparable to those of other models in the ninth generation series, ensuring the vehicle could meet a wide range of customer requirements.

To do this, it was critical to engineer a rigid rear structure that can withstand challenging conditions. Additional crossmembers were added to the frame and others reprofiled to accommodate the new rear eAxle, together with the introduction of the new de Dion rigid rear axle (details above).

The BEV’s 29° approach and 24° departure angles, 500 mm wheel articulation and 700 mm wading depth are values similar to those of other ninth generation Hilux models. There is a lowering of ground clearance to 212 mm and a modest reduction in break-over angle to 20°, due to the location of the battery beneath the vehicle floor.

Ready for all roads with Multi-Terrain Select (MTS)

Hilux is the first Toyota BEV to be equipped with Multi-Terrain Select (MTS), a five-mode electronic control system that automatically adjusts vehicle performance to suit different off-road driving scenarios.

In vehicles that use an internal combustion engine – including the new Hilux Hybrid 48V –MTS can be selected when using the L4 and H4 ranges to secure steady progress in challenging conditions. In the Hilux BEV, the system applies precise, direct control of drive torque and braking, replicating the effect of using a low range transmission. It underwent extensive real-world testing on different off-road terrains to ensure customers can use it with confidence in a wide range of operating environments.

In common with the standard MTS, the driver can choose settings appropriate for different surfaces:

• Rock, for trails and climbs with large boulders and stones
• Sand, for beaches, desert trails and loose sandy surfaces
• Mud, for wet and mushy tracks and fields
• Dirt, for dirt roads and gravel tracks
• Mogul, for bumpy terrain – offered for the first time in a BEV

MTS also provides an automatic mode with which the system adopts the most suitable setting according to vehicle behaviour and driver inputs.

Practical for business

An essential quality for any Hilux is to be a practical and reliable proposition for business users, so the introduction of an electric powertrain could not be at the expense of day-to-day practicality.

The load space is equal to that of the mild hybrid model and the payload is 710-715 kg, according to model grade. This figure was calculated to offer the best balance of driving range, power and practical usability, based on Toyota’s extensive evaluation of BEV customer requirements.

Towing ability was factored in from the start of the development programme: the Hilux BEV can tow up to 1,600 kg, ensuring that it is capable of handling trailers, equipment or leisure loads with confidence.

BEV design details

The BEV shares the ninth generation Hilux’s bold, powerful exterior Tough x Agile design, styling that communicates its strength and robust performance.

Externally some elements denote the difference in powertrain. Most prominent is the absence of the front grille – a characteristic of technically advanced electric vehicles which require less cooling air flow. The area beneath the bonnet and TOYOTA emblem instead has a raised geometric pattern that adds texture and distinctive visual interest.

The 17-inch wheels are also specific to the model, lightweight and aero-tuned with a directional design to manage air flow with premium diamond-cut facets around the circumference. Simulations and wind tunnel testing optimised the design for efficiency at all speeds. Elsewhere, the wheel arch mouldings are removed, there is BEV badging on the tailgate and a charging port on the front wing.

The Double Cab interior is also common to the Hilux range, with the exception of the centre console, which is slightly adapted to accommodate the BEV’s smooth, single-action shift-by-wire control and repositioned electronic parking brake switches.

Digital combimeter

The 12.3-inch driver’s digital combimeter offers the same flexibility as that in the Hybrid 48V, with four design options – Casual, Smart, Tough and Sporty. The driver can choose from three layouts, displaying two, one or no dials; widgets can also be added to show electricity consumption and audio information. Settings and content can be changed at any time with ease, using switches on the steering wheel.

TOYOTA T-MATE SAFETY AND DRIVER ASSISTANCE

The all-new Hilux benefits from a wider range TOYOTA T-Mate safety and ADAS features than ever before, including the introduction of third-generation Toyota Safety Sense. Safety systems can be updated over time are kept out-to-date with the seamless delivery of software updates over the air, via the vehicle’s Data Communications module.

Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) is featured for the first time on Hilux, thanks to its adoption of an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system. This provides steering assistance to keep the vehicle centred in its traffic lane; it can also recognise when an off-set driving path is appropriate, for example when passing vehicles parked at the side of the road.

The operating scope of the Pre-Collision System (PCS) is enhanced with the ability to detect motorcycles as well as vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and oncoming vehicles. Its intersection collision avoidance support also provides greater support with detection of crossing vehicles at junctions.

Emergency Steering Assist (ESA) is featured in Hilux for the first time, enabled by the introduction of electric power steering. When the PCS recognises a hazard such a person walking in the side of the road, a cyclist or parked vehicle and there is a risk the driver may swerve in avoidance, steering assistance and gentle braking are provided, helping the driver manoeuvre safely while keeping the car within its traffic lane.

The Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control (iACC) is newly able to detect two vehicles ahead for smoother speed management and respond more promptly to a vehicle cutting in front, so braking is less abrupt. It can also suppress the Hilux’s acceleration to avoid unintentional “undertaking” of another vehicle in an adjacent lane. Turn signal-linked control initiates preliminary acceleration when the driver uses the turn indicator to make an overtaking manoeuvre; acceleration is automatically suppressed, however, if the system detects another vehicle in the overtaking lane. The iACC DRC also has improved curve recognition, giving better speed management through bends. With the upgraded system, the driver can now choose from four distance setting options.

Acceleration Suppression regulates the car’s drive force and controls braking if the driver accelerates sharply with an obstacle immediately ahead.

Thanks to the introduction of an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) and Driver Monitor Camera (DMC), Hilux can be equipped with a new Emergency Driving Stop System (EDSS).  EDSS monitors the driver’s steering, braking and use of the accelerator and if there are no inputs over a period of time, it triggers a warning. If there is still no response from the driver, it brings the vehicle to a smooth stop and activates the hazard lights.

With the benefit of Electric Power Steering (EPS), Lane Trace Assist (LTA) is also enabled.

The new Proactive Driving Assist (PDA) provides a range of safeguards in low-speed traffic. Obstacle Anticipation Assist detects hazards ahead such as parked vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists at an early stage and provides steering a braking support to help the driver avoid approaching too close. Deceleration Assist provides smooth slowing when the driver comes off the accelerator when approaching a slower vehicle ahead, or when entering a bend.

In addition to these Toyota Safety Sense active safety features, Hilux is also equipped for the first time with a Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) and Safe Exit Assist (SEA), alerting the driver to traffic approaching from behind and warning if there is a risk of opening a door into the path of passing traffic.

Automatic Flashing Rear Hazard Lights are activated if the Hilux’s rear-facing radar detects a collision risk from vehicles approaching at speed from the rear, prompting the other driver to brake. Similarly, the Rear Vehicle Approaching Indication alerts the driver to decide whether to change lane. This supports safer lane discipline and less stressful driving and helps prevent tailgating.

The Parking Support Brake (PKSB) can prevent the vehicle from striking static objects to the front and rear when moving at low speed, control the car’s drive and applying the brake if needed to avoid an impact.

The new Rear Seat Reminder System will alert the driver if sensors detect movement on the back seats, for example when a child or pet animal has been left in the vehicle.

Toyota Relax

In common with all Toyota vehicles, the all-new Hilux is protected by a warranty of up to 10 years or 185,000 km – whichever comes first. The first three years of ownership are covered by a manufacturer’s warranty. This is followed by a service-activated warranty, providing an additional 12 months’ / 15,000 km cover up to maximum of 10 years of vehicle age or 185,000 kilometres driven, at no additional cost, each time the vehicle has a qualifying service at an authorised Toyota centre (terms and conditions apply).

Battery Care Programme

Confidence in lasting battery quality and performance is a key consideration for BEV owners. Toyota’s Battery Care Programme provides complete reassurance. It guarantees the vehicle’s traction battery will retain a minimum of 70% of its original capacity for up to 10 years or one million kilometres, subject to annual EV health check at an authorised Toyota centre. This seal of quality applies equally to the rugged new Hilux BEV as to other Toyota battery electric models.

MyToyota app

With the MyToyota app, Hilux owners can access a range of useful remote and connected services. These include locking or unlocking the doors, checking the vehicle’s status and activating the air conditioning system to heat or cool the cabin to a preferred temperature before making a journey. The app also provides a vehicle locating function and the owner can trigger the hazard lights to help find their Hilux in a busy car park.

MyToyota can also provide key driving data at-a-glance and provide timely reminders when servicing is required.

The all-new Hilux’s introduction builds on a heritage established over more than half a century and more than 27 million global sales. Throughout its history, Hilux’s success has been founded on its core Quality, Durability and Reliability, qualities that remain central to its latest evolution.

True to its customer-centred approach, Toyota is not offering a one-size-fits-all solution. Instead, the all-new Hilux aligns with the company’s multipath philosophy to provide a choice of powertrains suited to different customer requirements and preferences, and operation in different driving conditions. Thus, the new model will be offered with two electrified powertrains: a 2.8-litre diesel engine supported by a 48V hybrid system – the option that will be the volume seller in Europe – and a battery electric version, both of which will be on display in Brussels. In selected markets, diesel and petrol combustion engines will also be available.

In line with customer preference, the all-new Hilux will be offered exclusively in double-cab format, providing a convenient combination of practical load-carrying and performance capabilities for business and a comfortable, well-equipped cabin, together with an extensive Toyota T-Mate active safety and driving assistance provisions.

The sharp new exterior design, developed on a “Tough and Agile” theme, projects fundamental strength and a powerful, contemporary look. Under the skin, the pick-up retains the body-on-frame construction concept that has underpinned its exceptional off-road performance across successive generations.

The all-new Hilux will be introduced in Europe from next April with the BEV model, followed by the Hybrid 48V version from July 2026. Further details of performance, equipment features, and local pricing will be announced in due course.

All-new Hilux with Hybrid 48V powertrain

The all-new Hilux adopts the Hybrid 48V system which was introduced in the current model earlier this year. The 2.8-litre diesel engine is supported by a 48V lithium-ion battery, giving quieter, smoother and more refined performance – qualities that are particularly noticeable when starting off and under acceleration. There are further benefits in fuel efficiency and lower CO₂ emissions compared to the non-hybrid diesel powertrain.

The Hilux’s load-carrying capabilities are maintained: maximum payload is one tonne, and towing capacity is 3.5 tonnes. Likewise, the design and positioning of the hybrid components do not compromise the model’s “go-anywhere” ruggedness; Hilux can wade through water up to 700 mm deep. The driver is further supported in off-road conditions by the availability of a Multi-Terrain Select system that optimises vehicle performance when driving over different terrains, as well as a Multi-Terrain Monitor and Panoramic View Monitor for precise manoeuvring on challenging surfaces.

All-new Hilux BEV

The introduction of the first battery electric Hilux creates a new proposition: a version of the “unbreakable” pick-up with zero tailpipe emissions. In introducing full electric power, Toyota has ensured the qualities that define Hilux and underpin its enduring success are retained, equipping it to meet the demands of business customers who require Quality, Durability and Reliability, together with serious off-road capability, but need to operate with zero CO₂.

The Hilux BEV uses a 59.2 kWh lithium-ion battery and front and rear eAxles to secure permanent all-wheel drive. The system develops 205 Nm of torque at the front axle and 268 at the rear. Final WLTP homologation data show up to 257 km of driving range in the combined cycle, and up to 380 km in the city cycle. The Hilux BEV offers 715 kg payload and 1.6-tonne towing capacity.

The model shares the same practical body-on-frame construction as other Hilux versions, with its BEV system providing smooth, effortless and silent power delivery. Optimal weight balance, electric power steering (to be standard across all Hilux models) and suspension engineering contribute to stable, secure and comfortable performance, while unique to BEV variant shift by wire technology allows for smooth gear changing.

The electric powertrain, including the battery unit, has been packaged and installed so that superior off-road performance is maintained: ground clearance is 212 mm and maximum wading depth matches other Hilux versions at 700 mm. A Multi-Terrain Select system has been developed specifically for use in a BEV, adapting braking and torque to provide enhanced control in challenging conditions.

The new model’s introduction takes the legendary pick-up into a new era of electrified power, aligning with Toyota’s multipath philosophy to include the first battery electric model and a hydrogen fuel cell electric version, both with zero emissions.

Multipath recognises that different customer needs and local conditions cannot be addressed by a single solution, so the all-new Hilux gives customers a range of options to suit their needs and local driving conditions.  With Hybrid 48V and diesel and petrol combustion engines included in the wider European range, Hilux will have more powertrain options than any other Toyota model, extending its market reach while maintaining the Quality, Durability and Reliability that have made it the world’s favourite pick-up.

“TOUGH AND AGILE” DESIGN AND NEW HANDLING AND SAFETY FEATURES

Hilux’s new exterior styling was developed on a “Tough and Agile” theme projecting a powerful look in a front end with new proportions generating a visibly strong stance. The frontal treatment includes slim new headlight units linked by a central bar which carries the TOYOTA name in classic style. On the BEV model, the aero treatment dispenses with the traditional grille and dedicated alloy wheels are fitted. New features for all versions include a new rear deck step for easy access and a redesigned side step.

With the new generation, Hilux moves to one body style – the Double Cab – in line with customer preference. In the cabin there is an all-round elevation in sensory quality, influenced by the new Toyota Land Cruiser. The centre console has a new horizontal design, incorporating a 12.3-inch, customisable driver’s combimeter and central multimedia touchscreen (up to 12.3 inches).

All the AWD and off-road controls are centrally grouped for ease of operation; the BEV model adopts a single-action shift-by-wire drive selector. Ensuring connectivity requirements are met, Hilux is available with a wireless device charger and new USB ports in the rear of the cab.

New Hilux owners can access remote and connected services using the MyToyota app, convenient for both private and business/fleet customers. Fleet managers can view data from up to 10 vehicles, including location, fuel level and EV charging status, and driving analytics such as journey history.

This is also the first Hilux to be equipped with electric power steering, with the benefits of more direct operation, easier manoeuvrability and less risk of kick-back when driving over uneven ground.

The features included in Hilux’s Toyota T-Mate advanced safety and driving assistance package have been significantly extended. The new model will be available (according to grade and local market) with a wealth of new and upgraded functions, including an extension of Toyota Safety Sense to include Low Speed Acceleration Suppression, Proactive Driving Assist and an Emergency Driving Stop System. New over-the-air updates will provide seamless upgrades when available.

Other new items include (among others) a Blind Spot Monitor, Safe Exit Assist and a Driver Monitor Camera.

THE “INVINCIBLE” HILUX GOES FULLY ELECTRIC

The introduction of battery electric power is a breakthrough innovation for Hilux, achieved without sacrificing any of the model’s renowned Quality, Durability and Reliability.

It will have particular appeal to fleet customers seeking a pick-up that combines zero emission performance with everyday practicality, uncompromised QDR and off-road capability.  It retains the fundamental strength of Hilux’s signature body-on-frame construction and is engineered for off-road performance, including specific measures to protect the battery from damage or water ingress. Notably the wading depth is equal to the current ICE model.

The Hilux BEV further benefits from a Multi-Terrain Select system that adapts vehicle performance to suit different off-road terrains using brake and torque control, equivalent to driving in L4 range in a conventionally powered vehicle.

The powertrain features a 59.2 kWh lithium-ion battery and front and rear eAxles providing permanent all-wheel drive, with 205 Nm of torque generated at the front and 268.6 at the rear.  Tentative, pre-homologation data indicate approximate figures of 715 kg for the payload, and 1,600 kg for the towing capacity, with a WLTP driving range of approximately 240 km. Toyota has targeted best-in-class charging capabilities that will minimise vehicle down-time.  

THE HILUX HYBRID 48V: ELECTRIFIED, VERSATILE AND CAPABLE

The Hybrid 48V powertrain was introduced in the current Hilux range in 2025 and will progress to become the volume seller in Europe in the all-new generation. Production will commence in spring 2026.

The system comprises a 48V lithium-ion battery – conveniently housed beneath the rear seats so interior space isn’t compromised – an electric motor-generator and a DC-DC converter. Benefiting from Toyota’s world-leading hybrid technology know-how, it supports the 2.8-litre engine to deliver smooth, quiet and refined performance in both on and off-road driving. The drive quality is particularly noticeable at start-off and under acceleration.

Excellent load-carrying capability is maintained: payloads of up to one tonne can be carried and braked trailers up to 3,500 kg can be towed.

The hybrid powertrain components have been designed for simple integration and to withstand harsh operating conditions. Notably, the motor-generator is positioned high up on the engine, so the vehicle retains its 700 mm wading capability. Off-road performance is further improved with the Multi-Terrain Select system. This can be engaged by the driver to adapt performance on different surfaces, with a Multi-Terrain Monitor available to help position the vehicle in challenging conditions. A Panoramic View Monitor is also available to support parking and precise on-road manoeuvres.

INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE: A CONTINUING OFFER IN EASTERN MARKETS

 Internal combustion engines will still have a role to play in the Hilux range, but their availability will be focused on Toyota’s Eastern European markets only, ensuring regional customer needs are catered for. The muscular and efficient 2.8-litre diesel will replace the 2.4-litre unit, offered alongside the established 2.7-litre petrol power plant.

THE FUEL CELL ELECTRIC HILUX CONFIRMED FOR FUTURE PRODUCTION

The future promises even more for Hilux with confirmation that a version equipped with a Toyota hydrogen fuel cell system is scheduled to arrive in 2028. The fuel cell Hilux will be a further demonstration of Toyota’s commitment to realising the potential of hydrogen as a valuable source of clean energy and will add stimulus to a wider roll-out of hydrogen eco-systems and infrastructure in Europe.

The new Hybrid 48V is the first Hilux model to adopt an electrified powertrain, a mild hybrid system that delivers smoother, quieter and more confident performance, whether driving on-road or over rough terrain. Benefiting from Toyota’s unmatched experience in electrified vehicle technology spanning more than a quarter of a century, it enhances the driving performance and vehicle efficiency with no compromise in the vehicle’s capabilities: this Hilux has just the same load-carrying and towing capacity and off-road strengths as the non-hybrid models, including deep water wading.

The new Hilux GR SPORT II arrives as the new pinnacle model of the Hilux range. Its powerful design elements strengthen its emotional appeal to customers who want a vehicle that can express their personal style and character. The strong looks are matched by technical enhancements that make this best-driving Hilux yet, wherever your journey takes you, be it off-road exploring or highway cruising.

Over more than half a century, the Toyota Hilux has established a worldwide reputation for exceptional strength and durability, faithfully serving its owners and drivers in the world’s most challenging environments. During that time, it has also constantly evolved to become a genuine dual-use vehicle: it has retained all the toughness and reliability required for serious work duties while offering the comfort, refinement, on-road poise and safety for day-to-day and leisure driving.

This evolution enters a new phase in 2025 with the introduction of the model’s first electrified powertrain, the Toyota Hilux Hybrid 48V.

The 48V mild hybrid system strengthens the Hilux’s proposition as an ideal partner for business and commercial users, delivering multiple benefits. Performance is smoother, quieter and more refined, whether driving on standard roads or tackling tougher terrain. Critically, this is achieved without compromising the pick-up’s off-road prowess – notably there is no impact on its deep water (700 mm) wading or its load-carrying capabilities. This has been achieved by ensuring components such as the battery are positioned high up on the engine and using a fabric layer in the structure of the timing belt – a Toyota first.

The Hilux Hybrid 48V is launched in Double Cab format on all grades, including the flagship INVINCIBLE grade.

New Toyota 48V Hybrid system

The Hilux is the first model to use the new Toyota 48V Hybrid system. This mild hybrid powertrain retains the strengths of the pick-up’s proven 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine and introduces a new electric motor-generator, a 48V lithium-ion hybrid battery and a DC-DC converter.

These new components have all been designed for simple integration, avoiding the need for complex adjustments to the powertrain layout.

Another key consideration was to ensure the system can withstand the kind of harsh operating conditions the Hilux is likely to encounter. For instance, new parts, including the motor-generator, are located high enough on the engine to maintain the vehicle’s 700 mm wading capability.

Electric motor-generator

The electric motor-generator – a permanent magnet synchronous unit – is driven by the engine and in turn charges the lithium-ion hybrid battery. It provides multiple benefits that make driving easier, smoother and quieter in all conditions – both on-road and off.

Its compact dimensions helped make the hybrid system easy to integrate with Hilux’s existing powertrain.

Its benefits include a regenerative braking function, recovering energy produced every time the driver comes off the throttle. Combined with engine braking, this saves fuel, makes driving easier and gives natural-feeling deceleration. 

In on-road driving, acceleration when starting off and deceleration are smoother, more linear and more natural-feeling, contributing to a more composed and comfortable ride.

When covering rougher, off-road surfaces, the motor generator enhances the Hilux’s ability to overcome obstacles. Controllability at low speeds is further helped by a 20% reduction in the engine’s idling speed, from 720 rpm to 600 rpm.

The power assistance provided by the electric motor-generator also reduces the engine load in low-efficiency running, contributing to up to a 5% improvement in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, compared to the 2.8-litre diesel Hilux without the Hybrid 48V system. 

The motor-generator’s operating status is indicated in the driver’s multi-information display with a read-out showing CHG (energy regeneration), ECO and PWR (providing assist in both cases).

Smoother, quicker, quieter stop-start performance

The stop-start system delivers a more comfortable drive in traffic, with the 48V Hybrid system enabling quicker and quieter restart response.

The electric motor-generator operates in place of a conventional starter motor and is always connected which means restart is enabled even at high engine speeds and there is less delay in immediate restarts after stopping.

Auto-stopping is provided in heavy traffic, or at times when the driver accidentally restarts the engine by reducing their pressure on the brake pedal.

The driver can set their preference for stop and start performance, selecting NORMAL or LONG in the vehicle’s multi-information display. When choosing LONG, the engine’s idling stop time when the air conditioning is operating is increased.

When the Hilux is on an uphill gradient, a slight delay might occur between engine restart and the generation of drive torque. As an auxiliary function, the stop and start system will maintain brake pressure until the necessary drive torque is generated, to support smooth start-off performance. Also, on level surfaces, any excess drive torque from the engine speed racing on restart is offset.

Injection volume control has been optimised to support the system’s responsiveness, balanced against the level of shock experienced during acceleration.

Lithium-ion hybrid battery

The 48V lithium-ion hybrid battery has 13 cells and a 4.3 Ah capacity. It weighs just 7.6 kg and, thanks to the use of small internal components, is sufficiently compact to be housed below the Hilux’s rear seats, with minimal impact on cabin space.

When fully charged, the battery can supply up to an additional 12 kW of power and 65 Nm of torque to the powertrain at start-off. 

Both the hybrid battery and the low-profile DC-DC converter are protected against water ingress, cooling air is drawn into the battery from the front of the vehicle, with a lower temperature than the cabin air. A filter helps prevent the build-up of dust in the battery’s cooling paths and fan, which helps prevent deterioration of battery performance from high temperatures.

Two-arm belt-tensioner

A two-arm tensioner provides the belt tension required by the electric motor-generator. The first of its kind to be used in a Toyota, it has been designed specifically for use in diesel engine vehicles and to meet the demands of rough-road driving. It provides the level of belt tension the motor-generator requires, plus a restart assist function.

It also helps secure improved acceleration response and its noise and vibration performance is on par with gasoline engine passenger vehicles.

The belt’s material composition is key to its performance. A high-strength cotton fabric layer on the ribbed side of the belt reduces noise, absorbs water and maintains its friction coefficient when wet. This helps achieve consistent performance in challenging conditions, for example when driving through water. Not only can the Hilux 48V wade through water 700 mm deep, it can be stopped at this depth for up to 10 minutes.

A high-strength aramid cord is used at the core of the belt, enhancing reliability when tension increases are experienced when the motor-generator starts the engine or the increases the level of power generation.

Stoppers in the tensioner arms reduce abnormal noise and vibration caused by the arms striking the housing when switching to motor-generator mode. Bushes in the damping mechanism are designed to help prevent foreign bodies entering the sliding parts, such as dust and grit in rough road driving.

2.8-litre turbodiesel engine

The Hilux’s engine, a DOHC 16-valve unit, generates a maximum 204 DIN hp (150 kW) at 3,400 rpm and a muscular 500 Nm of torque between 1,600 and 2,800 rpm. It features common rail fuel injection, a variable nozzle turbocharger and a water-cooled intercooler. Exhaust emission control features include a particulate filter, Selective Catalytic Reduction and additional urea injection. In common with other Hilux models, the Hybrid 48V is compatible with HVO100 diesel, a non-fossil fuel made from 100% renewable sources.

New Multi-Terrain Select (MTS)

The Hilux Hybrid 48V is the first Hilux to feature the Multi-Terrain Select system, operated using the MTS switch and mode selector on the centre console. This adjusts the vehicle’s drive control systems – drive force, suspension and hydraulic brake pressure – to enhance traction, manoeuvrability and stability in different driving conditions.

There are six settings: Sand, Mud, Rock, Dirt, Deep Snow and Auto. In Auto mode, sensors around the vehicle continuously assess the road conditions and automatically apply the appropriate control settings. Sand, Mud, Rock and Auto can be engaged when the Hilux is in (low) L4 running; Dirt, Sand, Mud, Deep Snow and Auto can be used in the H4 transmission range.

•      AUTO MODE: provides ground-covering performance without the driver having change the mode according to the road and driving conditions.

•      DIRT MODE: when driving on unpaved roads, vehicle speed and stability are the same as on paved surfaces. The system provides suitable tyre-ground contact feel on undulating or uneven road surfaces and suitable driving force, even when towing.

•      SAND MODE: in H4 range, this mode prevents delivery of excessive drive force, to avoid the vehicle becoming stuck, while still providing enough drive for cruising. In L4 range, higher driving force is provided should the vehicle become stuck, or the sandy surface gives a high level of resistance.

•      MUD MODE: in this mode the wheels spin to help progress on muddy roads with very low grip levels. Higher driving force is provided in L4 range when the mud is deep enough to cover the tyres.

•      DEEP SNOW MODE: this mode can be used when making forward and reverse movements to tackle high snow bumps. When the snow is deep enough to cover the tyres, the system spins the wheels to create a snowplough effect. Moderate drive force is provided when starting off to prevent wheel spin. NB: this mode is not intended for use when driving on packed snow road surfaces.

•      ROCK MODE: this mode is suitable for driving over harsh, rocky terrain, suppressing tyre slippage. Should only two tyres be in contact with the ground, the system will transmit drive force to the other two wheels while simultaneously controlling vehicle speed.

The Hilux’s digital multi-information display features a different background for each mode. In Sand, Mud and Deep Snow modes in H4 and in all L4 modes, the VSC OFF indicator is illuminated; in all modes, the slip indicator light will flash on and off when brake control is being applied.

A strong, stable ride

The new Hilux Hybrid 48V has plenty of street presence, measuring 5,325 mm long, up to 1,900 mm wide and 1,865 mm high. It’s a practical pick-up, the double cab format matched to a 1,555 mm long bed. The mild hybrid system in no way diminishes the load-carrying capability: payload is up to 1,000 kg and towing capacity is 3,500 kg.

Hilux Hybrid 48V has a body-on-frame architecture and ladder frame chassis which are key to its strength, durability and torsional rigidity. The rear suspension’s hard-wearing leaf springs and twin shock absorbers provide sure-footed off-road performance and SUV-like on-road comfort and handling. It’s “go-anywhere” credentials are support by a running ground clearance of 310 mm and approach and departure angles at 29 and 26 degrees respectively.

Advanced safety provisions

The Hilux Hybrid 48V is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense technology to provide occupants and other road users with world-class protection from many common accident risks.

An enhanced Pre-Collision System (PCS) can better detect pedestrians at night, bicyclists during daytime, and oncoming vehicles or pedestrians at intersections when making turns. When such hazards are detected, the system issues audible and visual alerts before applying braking force if required.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Road Sign Assist (RSA) allows the driver to quickly adjust the speed in line with changes in the limit. The ACC can also automatically slow the vehicle to ensure an appropriate speed through highway bends.

When driving at night, the Automatic High Beam (AHB) function eliminates the need to switch headlight levels to avoid dazzling other drivers. It detects approaching vehicles and instantly and precisely adjusts the lights, so high beam use is maximised.

Multimedia and connectivity

The high equipment specification includes the eight-inch Toyota Smart Connect multimedia system and a nine-speaker JBL premium audio package.

Toyota Smart Connect gives the driver access to cloud-based navigation with efficient journey planning helped by up-to-the-minute traffic intelligence. The system also includes a voice agent for hands-free operation of mobile phone calls and audio functions. Smartphone integration is provided wirelessly via both Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto®.

Further convenience is provided by the MyToyota smartphone app. This can be used to operate certain vehicle functions remotely – door locking/unlocking and use of the air conditioning system to warm or cool the cabin ahead of a journey. The app also provides vehicle data and can be used for servicing scheduling and reminders.

The Toyota Hilux line-up reaches new heights of performance, ride comfort and imposing appearance with the new Hilux GR SPORT II. Positioned at the top of the range, it draws both on Hilux’s unrivalled reputation for durability and reliability and the model’s sporting success with TOYOTA GAZOO Racing, scoring multiple victories in the gruelling Dakar Rally and winning World Rally-Raid Championship titles. It demonstrates how Toyota applies the experience and knowledge gained in top-level motorsport to help create ever-better cars for the road.

Its powerful design gives it an imposing street presence, matched by enhanced handling and stability and uncompromised capabilities. Towing (3,500 kg) and payload (1,000 kg) capacities remain equal to the best-in-class.

This is the second GR SPORT model edition to be offered in the Hilux range and it builds on its predecessor in both design and chassis engineering. The significant changes include wider front and rear tracks, a raised ride height and an increase in the approach angle, strengthening the vehicle’s off-road capabilities. The result is a confidence-inspiring ride, particularly when driving in adverse weather or road conditions.

Toyota considers the GR SPORT II to be the best driving Hilux yet, both on and off-road, thanks to the wider tread and improvements in handling characteristics, such as greater stability from a reduced roll angle and precise steering response.

Enhanced suspension and brakes ensure a sure-footed drive, while noise and vibration levels have been reduced. The result is a more rewarding drive with a sporty feel, and a comfortable ride.

Hilux’s powerful and well-proven 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine can be relied upon to provide response and muscle, whatever the driving demands. Delivering 204 DIN hp/150 kW and 500 Nm of torque, it is matched to a six-speed automatic transmission.

Exterior Design

While the current Hilux has a commanding look, the GR SPORT II adds even more impact to the exterior styling. Its imposing demeanour and sense of purpose are accentuated by red-painted rear coil springs and dampers, red brake callipers, robust black over-fenders and new-design 17-inch black alloy wheels.

The new wheels also contribute to the vehicle’s performance with a large rim area that reduces aerodynamic drag and a weight-saving central spoke design.

The GR SPORT II further stands out with its black G-mesh pattern upper and lower grilles, with the TOYOTA name spelled out in classic style. The black detailing theme continues with the side steps, mirrors, door handles, aero sport bar and rear bumper. A silver front under-run and distinctive GR Sport badging complete the look.

Interior Design

The Hilux GR SPORT II’s sense of purpose is also evident in the cabin design, which expresses the model’s strength and sporting heritage. A black, monochrome theme with creates a stylish feel, with bold red accents, such as the contrasting seat belts.

The sporting character is reflected in the provision of paddle controls for manual shift selection and aluminium sport pedals.

The sports seats are upholstered in a combination of black synthetic suede and leather sport seats, with silver stitching and perforations exceptional comfort as well as a better grip, minimising sliding when the occupants experience higher lateral forces.

Completing the high-quality look and feel of the Hilux GR SPORT II cabin is a new carbon fibre ornament on the door trim and dashboard, which also features GR details on the information display and instrumentation.

Technical enhancements

The Hilux’s world-famous “go-anywhere” qualities are strengthened with an increase in the approach angle from 29 to 30 degrees and higher ground clearance – 323 mm, and widening the front and rear tracks, by 135 mm and 155 mm respectively.

The suspension system has been revised with a 70 mm increase in the width of the front arms, the adoption of a lighter, tubular anti-roll bar and repositioning of the spring and damper assemblies further outboard. At the rear the axle has a new square cross-section and the dampers have been repositioned, to the outside of the vehicle’s frame.

The changes have not compromised aerodynamic performance, thanks to the introduction of a new “air curtain” effect. This is created by a combination of the new grille, fog light bezels, wide over-fenders, sports bar, deck cover and alloy wheel design.  Each element has been tailored to reduce drag and contribute to the vehicle’s overall aero-efficiency.

Measures to gain a smoother and more stable ride over any terrain include new monotube dampers with large-diameter (46 mm) pistons in place of the previous twin-tube units. These provide better performance and faster response in tough conditions.

Toyota Smart Connect + multimedia

The Hilux GR Sport II is equipped as standard with the Toyota Smart Connect + multimedia system, accessed via an 8-inch touchscreen display or using an advanced voice command function. Users can also wirelessly connect their smartphone or tablet to the system using Apple CarPlay® or Android Auto®.

The multimedia package includes access to cloud-based journey navigation, which uses constantly updated real-time traffic event information for accurate and efficient route planning. There is also an embedded navigation system that can be used when no data connection to the cloud is available.

Good morning and welcome to Toyota. My name is Tom Fux, and I am Vice President of Toyota Motor Europe for Sales, Marketing and Value Chain.

Today, we are thrilled to present our European Commercial Vehicle strategy and ambitions.

Our global company vision of providing mobility solutions for every customer and leaving no one behind also applies to our commercial vehicle range. Indeed, I am very pleased to announce that as from today, Toyota offers a full and electrified product range to meet every customer’s need.

First, let’s have a look at Toyota’s commercial vehicle business in Europe so far.

Our story dates back to the 60s, when we launched the legendary Hilux & Hiace in Europe. Since then, they gained a worldwide reputation for quality, durability & reliability.

Back in 2016, we entered into a strategic partnership with Stellantis for commercial vehicles, starting with the Toyota PROACE. Since then, we have enjoyed year-on-year growth in Europe - both in terms of sales and market share.

We strengthened our product line-up with the PROACE CITY at the end of 2019. And, in 2021, we introduced the PROACE and PROACE CITY Electric.

Last year we achieved record sales of 140,000 units representing a record market share of 5.7%.

So far, we were covering the pick-up, CDV and MDV segments, with the Hilux, PROACE CITY and PROACE, which represents 70% of the LCV market.

However, Toyota was still missing the offer in the heavy-duty segment. This segment accounts for around 30% of total LCV market. To answer the demand of our customers, we are now announcing a newcomer to our range.

A completely new model for Toyota .... the PROACE MAX.

PROACE MAX completes our commercial offer… and, with its wide range of body varieties, it provides many new business opportunities for us … and our customers. 

PROACE MAX has been shortlisted for the 2025 International Van of The Year.

So - how does this translate into our mid-term ambitions?

Well, we want Toyota Professional to become an even more credible LCV brand in Europe… and we are aiming for a top 6 position by further growing our market share to 7% and reaching an annual sales volume of 180,000 units.

Specifically of interest to fleet customers, we offer as current line-up portfolio a wide range of internal combustion engines, mild hybrid, and battery electric vehicles. With a battery electric vehicles sales mix of 10%, we are already a top performing brand in Europe, outperforming the market overall.

But, of course, our ambition is to further increase the mix of zero-emission vehicles by further working with our customers to define the next generation of product solutions.

As possible next steps, we have recently presented battery electric and fuel cell electric prototypes of the iconic Hilux. I believe the fuel cell variant is of key interest in Europe, particularly as we’re also looking at solutions in the medium- and heavy-duty truck markets.

Good morning, everyone, my name is Shinichi Yasui. I am Executive Vice President of TME R&D and Chief Project Leader of Hydrogen Factory.

Today, I’d like to explain hydrogen related activities in Toyota.

Indeed, we strongly believe that hydrogen fuel cell technology is a great fit for LCVs and we recently demonstrated it in the Hilux at the Olympic games.

In fact, in Paris we showed how hydrogen can be used for many applications – all of which can support a local hydrogen cluster – which in turn creates demand and reduces costs. This kind of cluster combines fuel cell use in cars, taxis, buses, trucks and even boats operating on the river.

This supports our image that carbon is our enemy, and we should use all technologies and a wide range of applications to fight it by multi-pathway approach.

Our goal is to reduce carbon emissions as much as possible, as soon as possible, everywhere in the world! And not just for light duty vehicles.

We believe fuel cell technology is a very good fit for medium and heavy duty transportation solutions. Let me explain briefly.

The wider use of hydrogen as an energy carrier is coming quickly.

Recently the EU president re-confirmed that hydrogen for carbon reduction is critical for Europe to achieve its climate goals. To support this ambition, the EU and its member states have a wide-reaching framework in place.

The Renewable Energy Directive mandates that 42% of industry hydrogen must come from renewables by 2030…  and 60% by 2035.

At the same time, there is an EU regulation to stimulate the development of a hydrogen refueling infrastructure. This means there will be a hydrogen station every 200 kilometers along the Trans-European Transport Network by the end of this decade.

The point is that green hydrogen is going to be widely available across Europe by 2030. Things are moving.

At the same time, Toyota is not standing still.

We believe that today we already have industry-leading hydrogen fuel cell technology.

However, we have already announced our 3rd generation technology which will further improve efficiency by around 20% and reduce the cost of the FC stack by up to 50%.

The launch of this latest technology will coincide with new infrastructure and green hydrogen developments I just mentioned. This will give an increasing number of transportation companies a practical and affordable way to reduce their carbon footprints.

With our partners we have already created a wide range of applications including buses, boats, trains and stationary power generators.

However, being here in Hannover, I want to highlight the importance of fuel cells for medium and heavy-duty trucks.

Truck companies are facing strict CO2 reduction targets towards 2030. This requires them to develop practical and reliable zero emissions solutions.

This is a key reason why we took trucks very much into account when developing our 3rd generation fuel cell technology. As a result, not only will the efficiency increase and the cost reduce, but the durability will improve significantly.

Our door remains open to new partners in Europe and beyond and we are looking forward to a wide range of fuel cell applications across the whole industry.

Let me end by saying: “The future is something we all create together”.

So, let’s work together to reduce carbon emissions as much as possible and as soon as possible in the transportation sector.

With the introduction of the all-new PROACE MAX, the development of the Toyota Professional line-up of light commercial vehicles has reached a significant milestone.

Not only does the new model take Toyota into Europe’s heavy-duty van market for the first time, it also completes a range that gives the brand a presence in all the principal LCV market segments.

PROACE MAX takes its place alongside the updated and restyled PROACE medium-duty van, the compact PROACE CITY and their VERSO people carrier counterparts, all of which adopt a powerful new family design identity.

In addition, the legendary Hilux pick-up gains enhanced performance with the upcoming introduction of the Hilux Hybrid 48V mild hybrid.

Together these models cover a wide range of customer requirements, not just by delivering best-in-class qualities but by also offering battery electric powertrain options across the board. This breadth of choice aligns with Toyota’s multi-path technology strategy which deploys different solutions that can reduce CO2 emissions while offering the affordability, practicality and flexibility that customers need.

Day-to-day running is made easier with the benefit of Toyota connected services, provided as standard on all Toyota Professional models. Using the MyToyota smartphone app, customers and fleet managers can check up-to-the-moment vehicle status information and remotely control functions such as door locking/unlocking and air conditioning. For battery electric versions there are extra functions to help schedule efficient charging and to locate convenient public chargepoints.

Toyota Professional is about much more than the products, however. It includes a commitment to customer-focused service in every aspect, with purpose-designed products and services. These range from specialist sales staff and technicians, finance, insurance and warranty products and a multitude of opportunities for vehicles to be adapted for different uses, from accessories to multiple conversion possibilities.

The powerful product portfolio and the commitment to customer care combine to support Toyota Professional’s growth ambitions. In 2023, Toyota’s European LCV business achieved a new sales record with more than 140,000 units delivered across Europe; and the company intends to further build upon this success by targeting sales of more than 180,000 units and a market share of more than 7% in 2025.

THE TOYOTA PROMISE

The Toyota Promise provides every Toyota Professional customer with a unique package of peace-of-mind benefits linked to their vehicle.

An industry-leading comprehensive warranty package is provided on all vehicles. The battery electric models benefit from eight-year/100,000 km cover, while for diesel models the standard cover is three years/100,000 km.

With Toyota Relax, the warranty on any vehicle can be extended up to maximum 10 years/ 160,000 km. Once the new vehicle warranty period has passed, a further one year/10,000 km warranty is provided each time the vehicle undergoes scheduled servicing at an authorised Toyota workshop.

In the event something goes wrong, Toyota roadside assistance is on hand, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to provide rapid help to get business moving again, or to take the vehicle to the nearest Toyota workshop for repairs.

If their vehicle is off the road for service or maintenance, the customer can access a replacement vehicle, bookable in advance and available for collection at times to suit their business needs – early morning, late evening or on Saturdays (subject to vehicle availability).

Vehicle downtime can also be minimised with the option of Express Service, which sees two technicians allocated to a vehicle, using a workstation dedicated to Light Commercial Vehicles. Potentially this can see routine maintenance tasks being completed twice as quickly.

Toyota offers finance, insurance and leasing/contract hire products tailored to the Toyota Professional range, provided by Toyota Financial Services, Toyota Insurance Services and its pan-European mobility business KINTO.

THE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

Toyota has produced a new retail concept to showcase its professional line-up and deliver a customer-focused experience. The Toyota Professional Centres are an expression of the reinvigorated Toyota Professional brand, offering expert assistance in both showroom and workshop.

The new centres will be rolled out from next year in existing dealerships, giving a new focus on commercial vehicles with a dedicated display and maintenance area, complemented by a permanent outdoor branded showroom. Sales personnel are undergoing dedicated training to acquire specialist expertise.

From 2025, standalone Toyota Professional Centres will take the LCV commitment and service a step further, introducing new features including service and product promotions, eye-catching outdoor display structures and showcasing of accessories and conversions.

The enhanced experience will also extend to Toyota Professional’s online presence with the website offering a “help me choose” feature to advise customers on the best vehicle and configuration to suit their needs, together with straightforward information about Toyota’s competitive finance and insurance products.

INTRODUCING THE HEAVY-DUTY PROACE MAX

Toyota Professional has proved its competitiveness in the compact and medium-duty van markets over the past few years. Now it’s ready to take the next step with its first heavy-duty van, taking it into the largest and highest-value segment.

The PROACE MAX becomes the largest member of the Toyota Professional line-up. With two wheelbase sizes, three lengths and three height options, it’s offered in several configurations to cover a wide range of load-carrying requirements. In its largest form, it has a best-in-class load volume of 17m3.

Accessing this space is made easy thanks to full-height rear doors and a low threshold. The doors open to 270 degrees – a first for a Toyota van.

The battery electric PROACE MAX has a driving range of up to 420 km (WLTP standard), distance enough for businesses to cover local itineraries without having to recharge every day. Charging to 80% using a 150 kW fast-charging system takes around just 55 minutes. Three diesel powertrains are also available, with manual and automatic transmissions and power outputs to suit different haulage demands.

Around 90% of heavy-duty vans sold in Europe have some form of customisation or are fitted with accessories appropriate for their usage. The PROACE MAX offers a wealth of conversion opportunities. Factory-delivered options include platform and chassis cab versions, tippers and a drop-side model; further special adaptations can be carried out by Toyota-certified converters. The range of accessories is extensive, to enhance load carrying, security, protection for the load space and practicality.

The PROACE MAX introduces a new PROACE family exterior design with a strong, purposeful frontal treatment, a matt black grille and full LED headlights. High grade models adopt a new multimedia system with 10-inch touchscreen and access to cloud-based navigation. An extended range of Toyota Safety Technologies as standard provides peace of mind, protecting the vehicle and its occupants.

The new model is manufactured by Stellantis at its plants in Gliwice, Poland (Battery-electric versions), and Atessa, Italy (diesel versions). Production began in mid-July this year and the vehicle is already available to order in some European markets. Customer deliveries are expected to start in September,

THE 2024 PROACE AND PROACE CITY

The versatile PROACE and PROACE CITY vans and respective VERSO people carriers feature eye-catching styling updates, adopting a family look that connects them visually with their sister PROACE MAX model.

The medium-duty PROACE van’s battery electric powertrain offers a driving range extended by 20 km to up to 350 km. At the same time, it provides cargo capacity to match its performance with up to 6.6m3 and the ability to carry payloads of up to 1,400 kg. In VERSO specification, there is comfortable seating for up to nine people.

The compact PROACE CITY also provides exceptional load space for its class, with a maximum of 4.4 m3 on offer and the strength to take payloads of up to 1,000 kg, depending on the powertrain selected. As with PROACE, the electric model benefits from revisions to its battery, increasing the maximum range by 50 km to 330 km. The van version comfortably accommodates three front-seat passengers while the VERSO has space for up to seven.

The PROACE AND PROACE CITY are also available with a range of diesel powertrains and are produced by Stellantis at its plants in Atessa, Italy and Vigo, Spain.

THE NEW HILUX HYBRID 48V

The Toyota Professional line-up also includes the new Hilux Hybrid 48V, a version of the redoubtable pick-up that uses a 48V hybrid system based on its established 2.8-litre engine.

This delivers improved throttle response and smoother, linear acceleration, in addition to the Hilux’s world-famous durability and reliability. Regenerative braking and a more efficient stop-and-start system making for a more comfortable and efficient drive. Off-road control and stability are aided by the addition of a new Multi-Terrain Select system with settings for a range of different conditions, together with an Auto mode that responds seamlessly to the prevailing conditions

There is no compromise on the Hilux’s payload and towing capacities, which remain exceptional at 1,000 kg and 3,500 kg respectively.

The new Hilux Hybrid 48V will be manufactured at Toyota’s Prospecton factory in Durban, South Africa. Production for European markets will start towards the end of 2024.

Over more than half a century, the Toyota Hilux has established a worldwide reputation for exceptional strength and durability, faithfully serving its customers in the world’s most challenging environments. During that time, it has also constantly evolved to become a genuine dual-use vehicle: it has retained all the toughness and reliability required for serious work duties while offering the comfort, refinement, on-road poise and safety for day-to-day and leisure driving.

Now this evolution enters a new phase with the introduction of the model’s first electrified powertrain, the Toyota Hilux Hybrid 48V.

The 48V mild hybrid system strengthens the Hilux’s proposition as an ideal partner for business/commercial users, delivering multiple benefits. Performance is smoother and more refined, with less noise and vibration, whether driving on standard roads or tackling tougher terrain. Critically, this is achieved without compromising the pick-up’s off-road prowess – notably there is no impact on its deep water (700 mm) wading or its load-carrying capabilities.

The Hilux Hybrid 48V is launched in Double Cab format, with powerful styling that includes a three-dimensional grille and front bumper that emphasises its rugged strength.

New 48V hybrid technology

The 48V hybrid system uses Hilux’s well-proven 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine, equipped with a new electric motor-generator, a 48V lithium-ion battery and a DC-DC converter. The parts are designed for simple integration, avoiding the need for complex adjustments to the powertrain layout.

These new system components are built to withstand the kind of harsh operating conditions the Hilux is likely to encounter. For instance, the new electric motor-generator is positioned high enough to maintain the vehicle’s 700 mm wading capability.

The engine drives the electric motor-generator (a permanent magnet synchronous unit), which in turn charges the hybrid battery. When charged, the hybrid battery can supply up to an additional 12 kW of power and 65 Nm of torque to the powertrain under acceleration.

A two-arm tensioner provides the belt tension required by the electric motor-generator. This has been designed for use in diesel commercial vehicles and to withstand the demands of rough-road driving. It also helps secure improved acceleration response and a noise and vibration performance that is on par with gasoline-engine passenger vehicles. Strengthening and anti-slip measures include a high-strength fabric layer on the ribbed side of the belt. This reduces noise and helps maintain consistent performance in challenging conditions, for example when driving through deep water.

The 48V lithium-ion hybrid battery has 13 cells and a 4.3Ah capacity. Weighing just 7.6 kg, it is also sufficiently compact to be housed beneath the vehicle’s rear seats, with minimal impact on cabin space. Both the hybrid battery and the low-profile DC-DC converter are protected against water ingress.

The engine, a DOHC 16-valve unit, generates a maximum 204 DIN hp (150 kW) at 3,400 rpm and a muscular 500 Nm of torque between 1,600 and 2,800 rpm. It features common rail fuel injection, a variable nozzle turbocharger and a water-cooled intercooler. Exhaust emission control features include a particulate filter, Selective Catalytic Reduction and additional urea injection. In common with other Hilux models, the Hybrid 48V is compatible with HVO100 diesel, a non-fossil fuel made from 100% renewable sources.

Regenerative braking and smooth, quiet stop-and-start system

The Hilux Hybrid 48V system’s electric motor-generator delivers benefits in both on and off-road driveability. It provides a regenerative braking function, recovering energy produced when the driver comes off the throttle. Combined with engine braking, this saves fuel and makes driving easier.  On the road, acceleration when starting off and deceleration are smoother and more natural-feeling, contributing to a more composed and comfortable ride. When covering rougher, off-road surfaces, the motor generator enhances the Hilux’s ability to overcome obstacles. This is further helped by a 20% reduction in the engine’s idling speed, from 720 rpm to 600 rpm.

The power assistance provided by the electric motor-generator also reduces the engine load in low-efficiency running, contributing to improved fuel consumption and emissions performance.

The motor-generator’s operating status is indicated in the driver’s multi-information display with a read-out showing CHG (energy regeneration), ECO (providing assist) and PWR (providing assist).

The stop-start system delivers a more comfortable drive in traffic, thanks to quicker throttle response from standstill and quieter engine restart. The electric motor-generator operates in place of a conventional starter motor and is always connected. Thus, it provides faster, smooth response with minimal shock.

New Multi-Terrain Select (MTS)

The Hilux Hybrid 48V is the first Hilux to feature Multi-Terrain Select. This adjusts the drive control systems – drive force, suspension and brake pressure – to enhance traction, manoeuvrability and stability in different driving conditions.

There are six settings: Sand, Mud, Rock, Dirt, Snow and Auto. In Auto mode, sensors around the vehicle assess the road conditions and apply the appropriate control settings. Sand, Mud, Rock and Auto can be engaged when the Hilux is in (low) L4 running; Dirt, Sand, Mud, Deep Snow and Auto can be used in H4. The new multi-information display features a different background for each mode.

A strong, stable ride

The new Hilux Hybrid 48V has plenty of street presence, measuring 5,325 mm long, 1,855 mm/1,900 mm wide and 1,865 mm high. It’s a practical pick-up, the double cab format matched to a 1,555 mm long bed. The mild hybrid system in no way diminishes the load-carrying capability: payload is up to 1,000 kg and towing capacity is 3,500 kg.

Like its conventionally powered sister models, it has a body-on-frame architecture and ladder frame chassis which are key to its strength, durability and torsional rigidity. The rear suspension’s hard-wearing leaf springs and twin shock absorbers provide sure-footed off-road performance expected of and SUV-like on-road comfort and handling. It’s “go-anywhere” credentials are support by a running ground clearance of 310 mm and approach and departure angles at 29 and 26 degrees respectively.

Advanced safety provisions

The Hilux Hybrid 48V is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense technology to provide occupants and other road users with world-class protection from many common accident risks.

An enhanced Pre-Collision System (PCS) can better detect pedestrians at night, bicyclists during daytime, and oncoming vehicles or pedestrians at intersections when making turns. When such hazards are detected, the system issues audible and visual alerts before applying braking force if required.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Road Sign Assist (RSA) allows the driver to quickly adjust the speed in line with changes in the limit. The ACC can also automatically slow the vehicle to ensure an appropriate speed through highway bends.

When driving at night, the Automatic High Beam (AHB) function eliminates the need to switch headlight levels to avoid dazzling other drivers. It detects approaching vehicles and instantly and precisely adjusts the lights, so high beam use is maximised.

Multimedia and connectivity

The high equipment specification includes the Toyota Smart Connect multimedia system and a nine-speaker JBL premium audio package.

Toyota Smart Connect gives the driver access to cloud-based navigation with efficient journey planning helped by up-to-the-minute traffic intelligence. The system also includes a voice agent for hands-free operation of mobile phone calls and audio functions. Smartphone integration is provided, via both Apple CarPlay (wireless) and Android Auto (wired).

Further convenience is provided by the MyToyota smartphone app. This can be used to operate certain vehicle functions remotely – door locking/unlocking and use of the air conditioning system to warm or cool the cabin ahead of a journey. The app also provides vehicle data and can be used for servicing scheduling and reminders.

Inside the new Hilux Hybrid 48V, a comfortable spacious interior features an extensive equipment list, including a modern infotainment system and the latest Toyota Safety Sense technology.

NEW 48V TECHNOLOGY

The powerful 2.8 litre Hilux diesel engine has been strengthened by the addition of a hybrid 48V system specifically designed for the unique demands of Toyota’s dual use pick-up.

The engine drives a compact motor generator using a belt system, which in turn charges the new 48V lithium battery, which is small enough to be installed under the rear seats to minimise impact on cabin space, and weighs just 7.6 kg. This 48V battery also supplies the vehicle’s 12V system through a new DC/DC converter.

Like Toyota’s full hybrid electric systems, the new battery is charged during deceleration, efficiently regenerating braking energy which would otherwise be lost, whilst also adding additional braking performance. Once charged, the battery sends up to 16 DIN hp (12 kW) of power and 65 Nm of torque through the motor generator to the engine to enhance acceleration, power and efficiency.

The robust motor generator is compact and has been designed to withstand the harsher working environments experienced by commercial vehicles, while the engine has been modified to adapt to the hybrid system. A new two-arm belt tensioner and stronger belt material contribute to the improved drivability and a quieter ride, whilst retaining Hilux’s famous durability.

Combining with the motor generator is the powerful and proven Euro 6d-compliant, DOHC, 16 valve, 2.8-litre diesel engine which generates 204 DIN hp (150 kW) at 3,400 rpm and 500 Nm of torque between 1,600 and 2,800 rpm.

It is equipped with a common rail fuel injection system, a variable nozzle turbocharger and a water-cooled intercooler. Exhaust emissions control measures include a Diesel Oxidisation Catalyst, a Diesel Particulate Filter, Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and Urea Additional Injection.

In common with existing Hilux, Land Cruiser and PROACE family of vehicles, the Hilux Hybrid 48V is compatible with HVO100 diesel, a non-fossil fuel made from 100% renewable sources.

RESPONSIVE, EFFICIENT AND QUIETER PERFORMANCE

The new Hilux Hybrid 48V combines responsive acceleration, improved braking performance and greater fuel efficiency with a smoother ride whether on the road or tackling tough terrain.

In an urban environment, the additional power of the hybrid 48V system delivers better throttle response and linear acceleration, particularly from a standstill, while regenerative braking creates a more effective and natural deceleration feel.

An enhanced stop-start system allows the engine to remain off for longer periods which, coupled with the benefits of the hybrid 48V system, improves fuel efficiency by up to 5% compared to the conventional non-electrified diesel powertrain.

As well as those efficiency benefits, the improved stop-start system delivers a more comfortable drive in traffic, thanks to quicker throttle response from standstill and a quieter engine restart, achieved because the motor generator is constantly connected to the engine and, unlike conventional systems, does not use the starter motor. That also enables the engine to restart at a higher speed.

Driving performance improvements are not confined to an urban environment and the Hilux Hybrid 48V, in common with its illustrious heritage, naturally excels off road.

Motor generator power allows for smoother acceleration when negotiating rough terrain too and regenerative braking supports safer downhill manoeuvring, while the engine’s idling speed is reduced from 720 rpm to 600 rpm which increases a driver’s ability to easily control the vehicle.

For the first time on a Hilux, the new Multi-terrain Select system provides even better performance and control by giving the driver the option to adjust vehicle stability control settings according to the specific driving conditions. This can be set to an automatic setting, or the driver can choose one of five pre-set options – Dirt, Sand, Mud, Deep Snow or Rock – calibrated to regulate power and wheelspin to enhance traction and manoeuvrability.

Special attention has been paid to ensuring the Hilux Hybrid 48V possesses formidable water-crossing capabilities. The Hilux Hybrid 48V can drive through water up to 700 mm deep thanks to waterproofing of the 48V battery and DC-DC converter while new anti-slip and strengthening measures on the motor generator pulley and belt ensure optimum performance, even when wet.

A STRONG AND STABLE RIDE

The new Hilux Hybrid 48V stands proud at 5,325 mm long, 1,900 mm wide and 1,815 mm high, while it offers practicality as well as rugged style thanks to a load bed length of 1,555 mm. UP-TO-DATE SAFETY AND MULTIMEDIA EQUIPMENT

It detects approaching vehicles and precisely adjusts the LED lights, dimming lamps to shield other road users and allowing the driver to use uninterrupted high beam for maximum visibility.

Inside the cabin, the latest Toyota Smart Connect system, complete with 8-inch screen, features cloud-based navigation with latest traffic information and interactive voice agent for hands-free operation of mobile phone calls, multimedia, air conditioning, electric windows and ambient lighting. Drivers also have the possibility to conveniently lock or unlock the vehicle and control the air conditioning via a smartphone app, depending on the grade. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity are now available wirelessly.

Starting next year, Toyota Professional Centres in existing dealerships will bring a new focus to commercial vehicles via dedicated display and maintenance space inside, complemented by a permanent branded outdoor showroom. Customers can take advantage of LCV-specific consultants, who develop their market-specific expertise via an extensive and ongoing training programme.

From 2025, standalone Toyota Professional Centres will take that commitment and service a step further by adding new features to the entire customer experience journey including vehicle maintenance and product promotion, eye-catching outdoor display structures hosting a range of vehicles, and examples of accessories and conversions.

An enhanced experience is not only confined to dealerships. Updated Toyota Professional websites, including the convenient “Help Me Choose” feature, make selecting the right vehicle, accessories, as well as Toyota’s competitive finance and insurance services, more straightforward.

From the moment they drive their new vehicle out of a Toyota Professional Centre, customers will enjoy the peace of mind that comes with a Toyota manufacturing warranty package on all vehicles, including an eight-year/160,000 km warranty for battery degradation.

Another contribution towards stress-free ownership comes from Roadside Assist. In the unlikely event that something goes wrong, it ensures rapid assistance any time of the day or night, 365 days a year to get business moving again, or take the vehicle to the nearest Toyota garage for repairs.

During regular maintenance, Toyota Professional keeps customers on the road by offering a replacement van service, bookable in advance for certainty and available for collection at times to suit the needs of businesses, whether early in the morning, late in the evening or on Saturdays.

A bold makeover elevates the versatile PROACE and PROACE CITY platforms, with an all-new front design which creates a striking impression and sets the tone for a contemporary update inside and out, highlighted by a front face with its clean lines. The absence of upper cooling grilles between the front lamps creates a sophisticated, distinctive appearance while the trapezoid-shaped lower grille reflects similar designs across the Toyota range and creates a tough-looking style, accentuated by new headlamps, including full LED options, and alloy wheels.

A fresh new look enhances the cabin too, where the latest equipment is installed within a sturdy, comfortable interior trim. PROACE

The PROACE medium-duty van and PROACE VERSO people carrier bring a forceful new appearance to their renowned adaptability and efficiency, providing the power, space and efficiency to comfortably handle the job in hand.

Customers have a choice of formats, including a van in medium and long body lengths, while a Crew Cab has an extra row of seats, and a Platform Cab allows bespoke and specialist body types. The PROACE VERSO allows up to nine passengers travel in comfort with grades intended for daily working use, to support the lifestyle of active families, or executive travel.

The PROACE also features a new Crew Cab Premium grade which can carry five passengers in superior comfort as well as a remarkable capacity for bulky loads. Luxurious touches such as Mistral Black premium dash, leather seat trim and arm rest, as well as height-adjustable headrests, enhance the cabin for the driver and front passenger, while a three-seat fixed bench has leather comfort seats and two arm rests. Rear storage space is enhanced by a space under a rear seat for longer items.

The new PROACE boasts a capable electric powertrain which offers all the benefits of zero emission daily driving with a practical range of up to 350 km between charges for the 75 kWh battery, long enough for regular local driving without requiring a daily recharge. A smaller 50 kWh battery is also available, with both providing 136 DIN hp (100 kW) of power and the relaxed ride of an EV.

A proven 2.0-litre diesel engine is also available, up to 180 DIN hp (132 kW) depending on the transmission. Six- and eight-speed options are available in both manual and automatic variants while a 1.5-litre, 120 DIN hp (88 kW) engine and six-speed manual transmission is exclusively available for the PROACE van.

As well as the power to get the job done, the PROACE van also has the capacity to match thanks to its leading carrying capabilities. It can hold a maximum load volume of 6.6 m³, carrying a best-in-class 1,400 kg of payload and has a maximum towing capacity of 2,500 kg.

A compact 1.9 m height for the PROACE and PROACE VERSO conveniently allows the vehicles to enter all standard car parks while urban manoeuvring is made simple due to a turning circle of 12.4 m between kerbs in the standard 4.98 m length.

PROACE CITY

With its bold redesign and class-leading attributes, the PROACE CITY compact van and PROACE CITY VERSO passenger carrier offer industrious solutions for business customers and active families.

The adaptable PROACE CITY can be specified as a panel van, a Crew Cab, and as a versatile passenger vehicle, seating a best-in-class seven passengers for daily commuting use and for active families. Despite its compact dimensions, all van variants can comfortably seat three front passengers.

The electric powertrain delivers 100 kW (136 DIN hp) performance from the 50 kWh battery and boasts an improved driving range of 330 km (WTLP standard), 50 km higher than the existing model. When more energy is required, a 100 kW DC fast-charging system can recharge the battery up to 80% in around 30 minutes.

The class-leading 1.5-litre diesel has six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic variants achieve up to 130 DIN hp depending on the specification. An efficient 1.2-litre petrol engine (110 DIN hp) is also available alongside a six-speed manual transmission.

Toyota’s ultimate goal of realising “Mobility for All” is expressed through both the PROACE and PROACE CITY, which can be converted to wheelchair accessible vehicles, allowing wheelchair users to get from A to B in comfort and safety. A lowered floor and foldable rear entry ramp allow easy access to the vehicle and LED illumination supports safe operation at night. Additional features include manual or automatic side step and electric winch.

All Toyota Professional vehicles benefit from extensive accessory list, developed specifically for the needs of business users and focusing on protection inside and out, load carrying, and security devices. Additional storage on the roof is achieved via roof platforms and racks, while inside the vehicle, a range of racks and storage compartments can be installed to bring order to day-to-day use.

A striking new front design for the PROACE family emphasises a Toyota identity and creates a striking first impression, thanks to a cleaner surface for the front face. The latest full LED lighting technology and alloy wheels create an even more distinctive appearance, depending on the trim grade.

INTRODUCING THE HEAVY-DUTY TOYOTA PROACE MAX

As the biggest vehicle in the Toyota Professional line-up, the heavy duty PROACE MAX is available in six configurations, featuring two wheelbases, three lengths and three heights for multiple load-carrying options. In its largest specification the PROACE MAX Electric has a best-in-class cargo capacity of 17 m³.

Loading and unloading is straightforward thanks to full height doors and a practical square opening, with low threshold for easy access. For the first time on a Toyota, the doors open 270 degrees, maximising the kerbside loading space and access to the cabin.

The latest battery electric technology provides the comfort of zero emissions driving with the practicality of up to 420km (WTLP standard) range.

The PROACE MAX platform leads the way for conversions too, with Toyota’s uncompromising quality standards at its heart. It is available in as a one-way or three-way tipper and dropside configurations, including the optional Chassis, Platform and Crew Cab lay-out with two rows of seating.

MODERN PRACTICALITY WITH PROACE AND PROACE CITY

The versatile PROACE and PROACE CITY vehicles feature eye-catching visual updates and the latest technology in both van, PROACE VERSO and PROACE CITY VERSO passenger configurations, emphasising the exhaustive variety of practical solutions within the Toyota Professional line-up.

The PROACE van comes with best-in-class powertrain options with the EV battery delivering a 20km increase in range of up to 350km. The PROACE also has the load carrying to match its performance, thanks to a capacity of up to 6.6 m³ and a best-in-class payload of up to 1,400kg, while in PROACE VERSO configuration the vehicle comfortably seats up to nine passengers.

Load carrying is a standout attribute of the practical PROACE CITY, which leads its class in load and passenger carrying. The van cleverly utilises the available space to hold 4.4 m³ of load volume and up to 1,000kg of cargo, depending on powertrain. The latest EV battery technology also delivers a best-in-class range of 330km, a 50km increase from the current generation. All van variants comfortably seat three front passengers while the seven-seat PROACE CITY VERSO offers enhanced passenger carrying capacity.

HILUX 48V HYBRID ENHANCES AN UNSTOPPABLE ICON

The Toyota Professional line-up also expands with the addition of the new Hilux Hybrid 48V, which benefits from improved fuel efficiency and enhanced driving performance, further enhancing the pick-up’s formidable capabilities on and off road.

As well as the Hilux’s legendary durability and reliability, the Hilux Hybrid 48V has improved throttle response and linear acceleration, with enhanced off-road performance too via smoother acceleration when navigating rough terrain and regenerative braking on downhill sections.

Driving enhancements come with no compromise on towing and payload capacity, which remain exceptional at 3,500kg and 1,000kg respectively.

COMPLETE CUSTOMER CARE

The enhanced Toyota Professional line-up represents a renewed commitment to commercial vehicles and Toyota aims to continue its year-on-year sales volume increase in this sector, which amounted to 119,000 vehicles in 2022, and are on track to set new sales records this year.

Toyota intends to achieve this via a comprehensive vehicle line-up allied to a strong focus on customer service, which includes competitive finance and insurance, warranties and roadside assistance provided by Toyota Financial Services, KINTO and Toyota Insurance Services for peace of mind as well as courtesy vehicles to keep customers on the road and at work.

To enhance the experience from purchase through ownership, newly developed Toyota Professional Centres will provide dedicated commercial vehicle expertise and servicing facilities.

An updated accessory range includes practical carrying and storage solutions, as well as security and protection options for added peace of mind.

The double cab Hilux GR SPORT II delivers a powerful combination of enhanced handling and stability, with best-in-class towing (3500 kg) and payload (1000 kg) capacity allied to an assertive design evolution. It stands out from the crowd, wherever the spirit of adventure takes it.

The second GR SPORT model edition features an increase in tread, the lateral distance between the wheels, which is expanded by 140 mm at the front and 155 mm at the rear compared to the standard Toyota Hilux. This creates a confidence-inspiring ride even in adverse weather or road conditions.

The Hilux GR SPORT II is the best driving Hilux ever, on- and off-road, thanks to that wider tread and significant improvements in handling characteristics, such as increased vehicle stability through reduced roll angle, and a precise steering response.

Optimised handling ensures a sure-footed drive with reduced vibration noise, while the suspension and brakes have been specifically enhanced. Driving excitement and sporty sensations are evoked without compromise on ride comfort, making it a perfect partner for everyday enjoyment.

A powerful and proven 2.8-litre engine, introduced to the Hilux range in 2020, provides response and vigour, no matter the requirement. Delivering 204 DIN hp / 150 kW and 500 Nm of torque, it is matched to a six-speed automatic transmission.

Always a commanding presence, the GR SPORT II elevates the Hilux to a stylish new level. A dynamic, imposing demeanour from all angles signifies an unrivalled sense of purpose, accentuated by the red coil springs and coloured monotube suspension, standing out in black at the front and red at the rear, alongside bold black over-fenders.

That striking look is emphasised by new 17-inch black alloy wheels, delivering impressive aesthetics combined with eye-catching red brake callipers. They contribute to performance too; a large rim area reduces aerodynamic drag while an ultra-efficient central spoke trims wheel weight.

Marking the Hilux GR SPORT II out from the crowd is a variety of premium exterior design details, such as the black G mesh front grille featuring classic Toyota name logo, black sidestep, mirrors and door handles. Silver-coloured protective front underguard, black rear bumper and distinctive GR SPORT logos compliment an evocative appearance.

The Hilux GR SPORT II forceful sense of purpose is mirrored within the cabin, where the pick-up’s DNA as an authentic performer with sporting heritage is underlined. A black, monochrome theme creates a stylish feel and is accompanied by bold red accents, such as the contrasting red seat belts, to emphasise the motorsport passion behind the GR SPORT identity.

Paddle controls add the option of manual shift selection, and aluminium sport pedals complete the experience.

Black suede and leather sport seats, with silver stitching and perforation, elevate the interior appearance and provide exceptional comfort as well as a better grip, minimising sliding when the occupants experience higher lateral forces.

Completing the high-quality look and feel of the Hilux GR SPORT II cabin is a new hydrographic ornament on the door trim and dashboard, which also features GR details on the information display and instrumentation.

The Hilux GR SPORT is fitted with the latest Toyota Smart Connect multimedia system operated using a 8-inch touchscreen display.

A permanent, icon-based menu is presented on the driver’s side of the display. Users can also connect their smartphone or tablet to the system – both wired and wirelessly if using Apple CarPlay® or with a wired link for Android Auto®.

The multimedia package includes access to cloud-based journey navigation, which uses constantly updated real-time traffic event information for accurate and efficient route planning. There is also an embedded navigation system that can be used when no data connection to the cloud is available.

There is further convenience with any future software tweaks or upgrades delivered seamlessly over the air, via the car’s data communications module (DCM). This means there is no need for the car to be taken to a workshop for a system update. Likewise, the system can be used to update software in the Toyota T-Mate/Toyota Safety Sense.

Hilux is world renowned for its “go anywhere” off-road capabilities and dependability, and the latest model strengthens that legacy.

An increase from 29 degrees to 30 degrees of approach angle, and enhanced ground clearance, extend its formidable off-road capabilities. That is achieved via a 20 mm increase in ride height combined with a tread increase of 140 mm at the front and 155 mm at the rear.

Aerodynamically, the Hilux GR SPORT II takes a no-compromise approach thanks to the new air curtain structure, including a brand-new bumper with a functional fog lamp bezel which seeks to optimize drag efficiency and reduce turbulence in the wheel arch. The air curtain is further optimised with the adoption of an aero sports bar and deck cover.

A smoother, more stable ride over any terrain is assured via dedicated updates designed to further improve handling precision, enhance stability in a straight line and achieve new levels of comfort. A monotube piston replaces the current twin tube solution, providing better damping performance and faster response in tough conditions thanks to its larger piston area. That helps the Hilux GR SPORT II navigate undulating or uneven surfaces with confidence and safety.

The new lighter 17-inch wheels are equipped with all-terrain tyres to enhance grip and overall stability. Precise, powerful braking provides peace of mind thanks to front discs expanded from 16 to 17 inches, and new 15-inch discs on the rear which replace the previous drum brake.

Sales of this new version of Hilux GR SPORT will start in the first half of 2024, with deliveries at retailers in the second half of 2024.
