The GR GT, the recently revealed TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR) flagship model, is set to make its debut in 2026 – in the world of gaming. The high-performance coupe features in the newly released cover art for Forza Horizon 6, issued in the lead-up to the launch of the latest instalment of the Microsoft street driving game later this year.

The artwork shows a red GR GT in a quintessentially Japanese setting with a backdrop of Mount Fuji and cherry blossoms.

The GR GT made its world debut in Tokyo in December last year, together with its related GT competition model, the GR GT3. The GR GT is envisioned as a road-legal race car that exemplifies TGR’s philosophy of making ever-better cars, bred through motorsport.

In addition to embodying the strong desire of Chairman Toyoda, aka Master Driver Morizo, to further accelerate and pass on the GR brand’s core mission of making ever-better motorsports-bred cars, TGR’s latest brand video takes on the challenge of expressing the “roads make cars” lesson that Master Driver Morizo learned at the Nürburgring. Four race cars—the GR YARIS Rally1 that competed in the WRC^*1, the GR010 HYBRID that competed in the WEC^*2, the DKR GR Hilux that is to compete in the Dakar Rally^*3, and the new FIA GT3-targeted GR GT3^*4—highlight the video’s fast action together with the new GR flagship GR GT^*5. Production centered on capturing and presenting immersive, actual-speed footage of mesmerizing behind-the-wheel performances by professional drivers in motorsports settings around the world, by driving alongside them as close as possible at high speeds.

Driving duties for the video’s multiple shoots were fulfilled by professional drivers, with Takamoto Katsuta putting the GR YARIS Rally1 through its paces, Kamui Kobayashi handling the GR010 HYBRID, and Akira Miura in charge of the DKR GR Hilux. Professional drivers who also serve as development drivers played a role as well, with Tatsuya Kataoka driving the GR GT3 and Hiroaki Ishiura driving the GR GT. The additional video “WILD ROAD—BEHIND THE SCENES”, which spotlights driving heroics not shown in the new brand video, is also available on the TGR YouTube channel.

• TGR will continue to strengthen industry collaboration in the top categories in Japan, SUPER GT and the Japanese SUPER FORMULA Championship, to build further excitement for motorsports in Japan. In the SUPER GT GT500 class, TGR will aim for fourth consecutive Drivers’ and Team Championship titles, while in Super Formula, it has set the goal of reclaiming the Drivers’ Championship.

• In the KYOJO CUP, TGR will continue to support the series in 2026 to promote diversity and expand the motorsports fan base and participant community with the aim of making motorsports more sustainable. The team will also support female drivers and help create an environment where they can thrive in motorsports.
• In driver development, TGR will continue to develop talent capable of competing in top categories both in Japan and overseas by building an environment where they can demonstrate their potential and maximize their abilities. The TGR Driver Challenge Program (TGR-DC) and TGR-DC Racing School will support a total of 16 drivers. The WRC Challenge Program will welcome its fifth-generation drivers and new global participants, bringing a total of nine drivers and co-driver to the program.
• In participatory motorsports, TGR will continue to expand participation through entry-level events such as the GR86/BRZ Cup, Yaris Cup, and Rally Challenge. The team will also work with circuits and local governments across Japan to ensure safe and well-organized races and rallies.
• In the Japanese Rally Championship, TGR will once again build a team consisting of its employees and conduct human resource development as it has in the past. Through the MORIZO Challenge Cup within the JN3 class, the team will support the development of young drivers who are aiming for the WRC and promote the active participation of female drivers.
• TGR will enter the American Rally Association (ARA) National Championship for the first time with a rally car based on the GR Corolla, taking on the challenge of making ever-better motorsports-bred cars on American roads.

4. W2RC

• Akira Miura, who has competed in Dakar Rally’s T2 class with Toyota Auto Body, will conclude his entry with Toyota Auto Body at Dakar 2026. From Round 2 onward, he will compete in the T1 class with TOYOTA GAZOO Racing W2RC, with support from TGR. After Miura moves to the T1 class, Toyota Auto Body will continue to compete in the T2 class, which is designated for vehicles that are based on production models.

5. KYOJO CUP

• TGR will support the team entries and activities of female drivers with the aim of building an environment where female drivers can thrive in motorsports.

• A one-make series using GR86 / SUBARU BRZ (ZN8/ZD8), delivering exciting, close races thanks to minimal performance differences.

8. Japanese SUPER FORMULA Championship

10. ARA National Championship

• TGR will newly enter the ARA National Championship from Round 2 in 2026, with the aim of developing cars on North American roads and making ever-better motorsports-bred cars.
• The rally car based on GR Corolla will compete in the RC2 class (roughly equivalent to Rally2 level).
• The driver will be young American Seth Quintero, who will compete in ARA in parallel with W2RC.
• TGR’s employees will also participate as engineers and mechanics to conduct hands-on develoment of pit human resources.

11. Grass-root Motorsports

TGR will collaborate with circuits and local governments nationwide to provide opportunities to enjoy the true appeal of cars—controlling them and enjoying driving. The team will also implement support for those who aim to take on the challenge of participatory motorsports, prioritizing the safety of all participants.

12. e-Motorsports

• TGR will continue engaging in e-Motorsports activities to help create an environment where anyone can aspire to become a race car driver. Details will be announced once preparations are complete.

The qualifying round will start with the Virtual GR86/BRZ Cup (round partner: SUBARU). Round 2 will feature a race with HEVs, one of the diverse options in the multi-pathway approach. The Prius, the world's first mass-produced HEV and a driving force behind their popularization, will make its first appearance in this competition. Round 7 will bring together a variety of vehicles beyond the boundaries of manufacturers, including TGR’s LEXUS RC F GT3, which is making its first appearance in the LMGT3 class of the FIA World Endurance Championship. Look forward to a unique and exciting qualifying round that can only be experienced at the TGR GT Cup.

In addition, all users who enter the event will receive a GR010 HYBRID with the 2024 matte black color scheme. Please enjoy experiencing this continuously evolving vehicle at the TGR GT Cup as TGR strives to make ever-better motorsports-bred cars.

Continuing from last year, the structure of the competition will use a league system according to the skill level of the drivers in order to make it easy for everyone, even beginners, to participate. The top-level GT1 League will be followed by two leagues: GT2 and GT3. Please check the times listed in the in-game news in Gran Turismo 7 as race times differ depending on the league.

TGR plans to continue an active engagement in e-Motorsports activities so that motorsports can be enjoyed closer than ever before beyond the boundaries of countries and generations.

Partly because of the effects of COVID-19, 2020 was a year in which people paid more attention to e-Motorsports than ever, as exemplified by the hosting of the Virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans. Many players from all over the world also participated in the GR Supra GT Cup and the GR Yaris Time Trial, hosted by TGR. In addition, after being featured in Gran Turismo SPORT, approximately 1.30 million GR Supra and 530,000 GR Yaris vehicles were purchased, indicating that many players all over the world enjoy the GR models.

The Toyota GR Yaris is “Born from WRC”, so Toyota and NACON’s collaboration to bring this unique product into the WRC 9 game fulfils Toyota’s goal to excite and engage with car fans everywhere, while offering a tantalising glimpse into a possible future of Toyota rally cars.

The Toyota GR Yaris Rally Concept is inspired by the Toyota GR Yaris-shaped World Rally Car prototype which tested earlier this year. TME, together with TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Rally Team, GAZOO Racing Company and NACON, collaborated to turn our collective dream into reality as part of TME’s eSports WRC partnership with NACON. The overall winner of this season’s eSports WRC competition will also have a chance to win an all-new Toyota GR Yaris ⁽¹⁾.

It is rare for enthusiasts to experience a video game version of a newly-launched road or race car so early in the car’s lifecycle. But Toyota has brought a special rally edition of the Toyota GR Yaris to WRC 9 and the road car version to Gran Turismo Sport ⁽²⁾ during the product’s launch phase, demonstrating the company’s commitment to e-Motorsport and to excite fans everywhere.

For Toyota President Akio Toyoda, the creation of a sports car made purely by Toyota – the first in 20 years – was a personal ambition, which grew when TOYOTA GAZOO Racing WRT won the WRC Manufacturers’ Championship in 2018.

The Toyota GR Yaris is that car, built from scratch and designed to win at the highest levels. It is Toyota’s second global GR model, following the launch of the GR Supra in 2018.

The GR Yaris is built on a unique platform, combining Toyota’s new GA-B platform (which debuted on the new generation Yaris hatchback) and a rear section adapted from the GA-C platform used for the Corolla and C-HR. Input from the rally team emphasised the importance of light weight which is reflected in the use of aluminium body panels and a forged carbon composite roof, while weight reduction was prioritised throughout the car.

For the best aerodynamic performance, the body itself is unique: although based on the new Toyota Yaris hatchback, it is a three- rather than five-door model, with a lower, tapering roof line. This has been designed to direct wind flow onto the large rear spoiler which generates downforce. As with a competition car, the shaping of the lower body efficiently channels airflow down the sides of the vehicle.

The engine is also all new, a 1.6-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged unit. It is the world’s most powerful three-cylinder engine as well as being the smallest and lightest 1.6 turbo. Producing 261 DIN hp and 360 Nm of torque, it complies with WRC2 technical regulations and can launch the Toyota GR Yaris from rest to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds, and on to an electronically-limited top speed of 230 km/h. Its construction uses features derived directly from motor sport, including a ball bearing turbocharger, large-diameter exhaust valves and multi-jet oil piston cooling.

A kerb weight of just 1,280 kg gives the Toyota GR Yaris an excellent weight-to-power ratio of 4.9 kg per 1 DIN hp.

Engine power is harnessed through a Toyota’s new GR-FOUR permanent, electronically controlled all-wheel drive system. Another competition-inspired feature, this provides three driving modes with different front/rear drive torque to suit the conditions – Normal (60/40 front/rear torque distribution), Track (50/50) and Sport (30/70).

The all new Toyota GR Yaris Rally Concept now joins the already-available 2020 Toyota Yaris WRC and the legendary 1999 Toyota Corolla WRC in WRC 9 to complete a past, present and future experience of Toyota rally in the official WRC game.

Despite a reduced 2020 World Rally Championship season, the Toyota Yaris WRC has performed strongly and is in contention for a double World Championship for TOYOTA GAZOO Racing for the first time since Toyota returned to WRC in 2017. Elfyn Evans leads the Drivers’ World Championship by 14 points from teammate Sebastien Ogier, while TOYOTA GAZOO Racing is in second place in the Manufacturers’ standings, trailing by just seven points prior to the season-ending Rally Monza, scheduled to take place next month.

Based on the eighth generation of the world’s best-selling model, the Toyota Corolla WRC was produced by Toyota Motorsport GmbH (recently renamed to TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Europe GmbH), debuting at the 1997 round of Rally Finland with legendary WRC drivers Didier Auriol and Marcus Grönholm behind the wheel. The Toyota Corolla WRC was driven to victory by another Toyota legend, Carlos Sainz, at the 1998 Monte Carlo Rally. In the following year, which would become Toyota’s last season before returning in 2017, the Toyota Corolla WRC won the marque’s final WRC victory at the 1999 Rally China, enabling Toyota to leave the sport on a high with a third Manufactures’ World Championship.

The all-new Toyota GR Yaris Rally Concept is available to anyone who owns WRC 9, the official game of the FIA World Rally Championship, after installing the latest game update which is scheduled to be released in December.

Developed by TOYOTA GAZOO Racing in partnership with Tommi Mäkinen Racing, the GR Yaris is the performance flagship of the all-new Yaris range. Powered by a 261 DIN hp 1.6-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine it is expected to offer 0-100 km/h acceleration in less than 5.5 seconds and features lightweight construction, dynamic balance and Toyota’s new GR-FOUR intelligent all-wheel drive system.

TGR will continue to work involving e-motorsports as one of the pillars of TGR motorsports activities. We are going to hold GR Supra GT Cup to make motorsports and sport cars more accessible and enjoyable across generations and around the world. GR Supra in Gran Turismo was bought by about 800,000 people along with implementation for GR Supra GT Cup and about 30,000 people participated. All-new TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Official Simulators powered by high-end T-GT official steering wheels in collaboration with Thrustmaster® - a leading brand in the gaming controller industry - running Gran Turismo Sport on Playstation® ⁽²⁾ 4 will debut in the Fan Village at the 24-hour endurance classic.

Following the successful launch of the GR Supra GT Cup, the first global one-make e-motorsport race series on Gran Turismo Sport, the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Official Simulators are built to give fans in Europe a taste of the excitement and possibilities of e-motorsport and to introduce the competition to new audiences at Toyota events.

Motorsport fans visiting Le Mans can test their racing skills against benchmark times set by TOYOTA GAZOO Racing FIA World Endurance Championship Team driver(s) at the Fan Village. The “GR Supra GT Cup Demo” will additionally serve as a platform for a mini-competition among fans with prizes provided by Thrustmaster®, including a T150 PRO Force Feedback racing wheel.

T-GT is a high-end steering wheel resulting from years of intense collaboration between Thrustmaster®’s engineers and the creators of Gran Turismo®.

T-GT provides all the sensations required for an ultra-realistic racing experience through highly innovative and exclusive technologies such as in-depth force feedback sensations in the steering column. Linearity, precision, immersion and consistency push the drivers’ skills to the limit and let them fully enter in the e-competition world. Thrustmaster® T-GT is the controller of choice for the FIA-certified Gran Turismo Championships, of which TOYOTA GAZOO Racing is an official manufacturer partner.

After two successful years in the FIA World Rally Championship, the “TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Fan Engagement Programme” will be introduced to fans at Le Mans for the first time. TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Fan Team will visit various parts of the Circuit de la Sarthe and surrounding fan-centric areas, including campsites and the Drivers’ Parade in Le Mans city centre, to engage with motorsport fans who will have the chance to win daily prizes and receive a TGR-branded gift with which they can use to show their support for TOYOTA GAZOO Racing WEC Team during the race.
