Toyota 'highlander' suv production begins in indiana, u.s.
TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announces production of the "Highlander" SUV began October 8 (local time) at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana, Inc. (TMMI), TMC's production base in Princeton, Indiana, United States.
Highlander production at TMMI represents an additional investment in the company by TMC of 450 million U.S. dollars.
In July 2008, TMC began an optimization review of its North American production, first resulting in "Tundra" pickup production shifting from TMMI to Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas, Inc. in November. Now, the Highlander joins the "Sequoia" SUV made at TMMI's West Plant. TMMI's East Plant makes the "Sienna" minivan.
Since the Highlander's introduction into North America in 2001, more than 1 million units of the vehicle have been sold.
