Toyota Motor Europe battery electric vehicle sales up 79% in the first quarter of 2026
- Toyota Motor Europe (TME) sold 318,103(1) vehicles in the first quarter of 2026
- TME overall electrified vehicles mix grew by 8% year on year, representing a record 86% of all vehicle sales.
- TME battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales increased by 79%, led by an expanded offer including the updated bZ4X, the all-new Toyota C-HR+ and the Urban Cruiser.
- Toyota retained its position as 2nd best-selling passenger car brand with 6.6% market share
- Toyota Professional recorded its strongest quarterly sales to date, delivering 40,039 vehicles, up 8% year on year, and achieving a record 6.7% market share.
- Lexus posted sales of 20,522 vehicles, with Lexus RX volume up 60% year-on-year
Brussels, 16th April 2026 – Toyota Motor Europe (TME) (2) sold 318,103 Toyota and Lexus vehicles in the first quarter of 2026. TME’s mix of electrified vehicles grew to 86%, an increase of 8% with BEV sales up 79%. Toyota Professional’s range of commercial vehicles also achieved an all-time sales record of 40,039 vehicles, an increase of 8% year-on-year.
Our first quarter results show the strong momentum building behind our battery electric vehicle strategy in Europe. With the updated bZ4X and the introductions of the Toyota C-HR+ and the Urban Cruiser, we are steadily increasing the availability of battery electric options for our customers, while continuing to progress our multi-pathway approach to electrification.
Brands and model performance
Toyota sold 297,581 vehicles between January – March 2026, retaining the position of 2nd best-selling passenger car brand in Europe. Yaris Cross was best-selling car in the B-SUV segment with 19% share. The brand’s top sellers also included the Yaris range, Corolla range, Toyota C-HR and bZ4X. Toyota’s overall electrified sales mix is now at 85%, increasing 9% year-on-year. Sales of battery electric vehicles were up by 85% year-on-year at 25,640 vehicles, driven by the launch of the three Toyota BEVs – the updated bZ4X, the all-new Toyota C-HR+ and the Urban Cruiser.
Toyota Professional continued to grow volume with 40,039 vehicles in the first quarter of 2026, an increase of 8% year-on-year. Strong demand for Hilux continues with a 7% growth year-on-year with 11,615 vehicles sold. The Proace Family range of commercial vans also experienced 9% volume growth year-on-year, with the demand for its battery electric versions up by 47%.
Lexus posted sales of 20,522 for the first three months of 2026. Lexus has a 100% electrified sales mix in West Europe and 97% across the entire region. Key performers are the luxury crossover Lexus RX range, which increased sales by 60% year-on-year, and the compact Lexus LBX with 6,215 cars sold.
