Toyota russia to add second shift at st. petersburg plant

Concerning the announcement, TMMR President Yoshinori Matsunaga said: "Starting two-shift operations is a significant event for our plant. Our employees' commitment to Toyota principles in quality has resulted in us gaining Russian consumer trust and high evaluations for our Camry. It makes us at TMMR glad to be able to contribute to the economy of St. Petersburg and to its employment."

Production of the new Toyota Camry began at TMMR in November 2011. Sales of the new model in Russia surged 66% year-on-year in the first quarter of this year, while sales of Toyota vehicles in the Russian market increased by 22% to 32,859 units during the same period.

Moreover, to promote further localisation in Russia, a market promising continued sustained growth, TMMR announced in February this year that it plans to add stamping and resin-moulding processes to its production during 2014.

Based on its founding philosophy of contributing to society through the manufacture of automobiles, Toyota plans to carry out business that contributes to the development of Russia's economy and its automotive industry. Toyota will also steadily work to provide high quality vehicles that meet Russian market and consumer needs.
